Spoj is indeed a very polite and respectable person. Let us all give him cookies.

Still, it makes no sense to me at all how someone can think that CCing mobs together, or using LoS on them and then killing them as quickly as possible while also knocking them down, stunning them, or blocking their attacks with buffs is an “exploit” or a “cheat”. This is what is commonly known as “organized group play”.

What Nemesis keeps trying to advocate is anti organized, or “run around like chicken with head cut off”. Making content take longer does not make it more or less legitimate. This playstyle, while still effective in GW2, is not somehow more real just because you stand there and let the mobs do their thing while ignoring half of the skills present in the game.

I can respect that his ideas are for newer, less experienced players, or players who desire less intensive playstyles, but his insistence that the current meta builds and the current tactics they use are anything other than legitimate is completely wrong. There is absolutely nothing wrong with promoting more organized teamwork that results in better and faster runs. Maybe if he could respect that I wouldn’t consider his ideas a plague on the community.

Also just feel like pointing out some hypocrisy. You ask for positive and constructive feedback which is nice.

I will gladly respond to any constructive and polite replies, but as for people who will try to flame-or just blow some winds? Don’t expect me to respond ^^
I of course also hope to see a respond to A-net, but I know the chances.

Then you go and say this

Our community right now hold three main problems which can choke this game.
1# We are all selfish and mean, which scares away new players:
2# We are a bunch of whiners who can’t even play the game with out cheating, yet we call ourselves skillful-and act like we are higher beings.

Which is incredibly nonconstructive and disrespectful to anyone who disagrees with you, or really just the entire community in general. You yourself violated what you wanted in a conversation in your first post.

I would also like to point out that the “beginner” dungeons are the story modes. You bring up explorable as if that was intended for beginners, which it absolutely never was. They were intended as much more challenging paths with much better rewards.

hang on… there’s but a few levels in difference. are you saying all explorables were meant for 80s?

Yes and no. All explorables reward tokens for level 80 exotic gear and other items only usable by level 80s. They were all obviously intended to be done and rewarding for people at level 80.

At the same time, they made them accessible and beatable to people at lower levels. They gave you an option to clear them for some nice more challenging content that you continued to unlock more of as you leveled. However, the difference in difficulty between the story modes and explore modes is pretty big. The story modes are brain dead casual easy. Even Arah story is easier than every single explore mode. Again, for people that are learning and new to the game, or for people that consider themselves casuals, then story modes are for you.

Explore mode is designed to be the challenging content with story being the beginner content for people who need to learn the ropes. Simple stuff.

You sound like you wear a fedora. I’ll assume you wear a fedora.

I have never personally solo’d AC path 1 as I never had a reason to do so. Of course if I had to, I might be able to do it on my Elementalist legitimately. Taking care of the burrows would be fairly simple, but I’m just not sure about keeping Hodgins alive. Who knows, but if it can be solo’d then again, it’s a non issue. If someone were using an exploit, that would be an issue with the exploit, not the path selling. Skipping has already been addressed by ANet as intended. They do not say that they expect you to go and kill everything in sight. If you can walk or run past something, then do it. Obviously some things in the past were not intended, like being able to run across the top of the caves in CM, which has been fixed, but that is not the same as simply running around Kholer in AC.

Player experience is irrelevant. The fact is, you can very easily clear AC explorable with a group of level 35s. In fact, in terms of how difficult it is, how complicated the fights are, it doesn’t even compare to the level of difficulty in most MMOs. It’s a very simple idea. The boss has mechanics, you learn the mechanics, and then you figure out how to beat it. AC isn’t even a progression wall. You have absolutely no reason to do it, nor do you need to do it to progress anywhere. It is entirely optional.

I would also like to point out that the “beginner” dungeons are the story modes. You bring up explorable as if that was intended for beginners, which it absolutely never was. They were intended as much more challenging paths with much better rewards.

You act as if you are entitled to a spot in someone else’s group. If someone else doesn’t want a new and inexperienced person, then they don’t have to bring one. You speak as if you want to force everyone to bring people they would rather not have which you have absolutely no right to do.

If you are happy to help new people learn something, then please by all means do so. Likewise, if someone wants a fast run where nothing needs to be explained, then they should be more than able to do so. This is a non issue.

Also, as it has been stated, and proven many, many times, the player’s level is hardly a game breaking factor in dungeons. People have already brought 5 level 35 characters into every path of AC and cleared it very easily. This dungeon is not too difficult. It is more than possible to clear it at the recommended level. If you cannot clear this dungeon, the proper reaction is to figure out why you couldn’t clear it, and improve upon what you did wrong. Please, please stop asking for nerfs to something that has been clearly proven as easily beaten by playing as an organized and intelligent team. Dungeons are meant to be a place where players work together to clear a goal with at least some effort. If you can’t just go and push two buttons and pay no attention to what anyone else is doing, then great. The dungeon is working.

Everything is more than doable without cheating. In fact, most of the “cheats” pugs use are intended for organized teams and are rarely done properly. It would actually be much faster and easier for a pug to simply fight the boss normally rather than, for example, try to stack and LoS the spider queen in AC. Many pugs wipe trying to do this because they do not use proper builds, or use skills properly. If you had instead opted to fight her in that big open room and not stand in her AoE or in front of her when she does the web thing, you would discover this is an incredibly easy fight. Stop trying to stack if you don’t know what you’re doing.

And no, dungeon selling is not some crazy super hax cheat. This is a person who has taken a lot of time to memorize boss fight mechanics to a point where they can solo them. This person the takes the time to run the entire dungeon and then gives others a very fast and easy way to earn rewards for their work. That player is selling their time, absolutely no different than farming. If you do not agree with it, then do no pay that person for their time.

Then you have the actual builds, but of course those are also terrible. His playstyle, his strategy, his approach, everything is just so slow and sloppy.

(this is a pve/dungeon post)

Ele water fields are not better than healing spring. For an ele to put down a water field they need to be using a staff, which has only one decent dps build that requires you to stay in fire attunement. If you switch to water, you render the build useless. Rangers on the other hand sacrifice nothing. Healing spring also has a much longer duration and shorter recharge.

Ranger with sword/x using a jaguar and sick em will do just as much or even more damage than a warrior. And yes you can keep your pet alive if you aren’t completely terrible.

Banners do provide more boost than frost spirit, but you can’t say one is just better when they are both unique. Banners and frost spirit and empowered allies and spotter together is way better than just banners and empowered allies. Why bring only some of what you could bring?

Ascended gear- Not what it should be.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dog.1472

Dog.1472

I, like many others, was drawn to GW2 because I heard it was supposed to have a moderately easy stat cap with a lot of never ending grind solely for cosmetics. I liked this idea a lot. As I started the game, I was just as happy with it as I thought it would be. I did not have to devote my life to the same daily grinds in order to simply have the best stats. It was a good system for me and the game was more enjoyable. Then they introduced ascended and slowly but surely they went back on what I had thought the game was intended to be in the first place.

Ascended has not enriched my gameplay experience in any way. I am not happier than I was before, in fact it’s quite the opposite. I play all 8 classes, have them all at level 80 and even spent quite a lot of time getting them all at least one full set of a specific stat of exotic gear, the best runes, sigils etc. I do not enjoy playing one character any more than the others. I don’t consider any of my characters a “main” because I enjoyed playing them all. It took quite a long time as it was, but it was fun.

Now, I am completely overwhelmed with how much of a grind it would take to get all of my now formerly geared characters hooked up with ascended. I feel as though I am being horribly pressured into playing a single character, which I have absolutely no intention of doing, nor does anyone really benefit from forcing me to play a single one. Fortunately, I am also completely underwhelmed by how significant of a difference it makes, and so I have opted to ignore ascended completely.

So what has it really done for me? Well, all I can say is I was happier without it than I am now. There is not one thing about it I can think of that has affected me in a positive way.

Time limited Living Story is keeping me away

in Living World

Posted by: Dog.1472

Dog.1472

I’ve been saying much of the same for months. You can take a break from the game for a year, and the only thing that will be new to you is whatever happens to be currently happening with the living story. The game never grows or actually changes. All of the wonderful things that do get added just get removed and you never get to enjoy them again. It doesn’t matter if that content was so great that it’s something that would draw you to playing them game, it just gets removed. It is a horrible design and leaves behind a very stagnant game.

They can simply allow players to replay old content however they see fit through some type of memory reliving system. No, not fractals, because you don’t get to choose what you get to do in fractals. They can keep what they feel makes the living story so great while at the same time have a game where content actually adds up and gives people something different to do for once. I’m sure more than a few people would love to go back and run the molten facility or super adventure box again rather than constantly run the same dungeons that have been in the game since launch for the rest of time.

No matter how cool the living story sounds, the fact remains that it just isn’t fun in its current form.

Someone use an analogy with a restaurant… here:

Are you really unhappy that you haven’t eaten everything on the menu when you go to a restaurant? No, well think of GW2 the same way and pick you want to do.

Which is a great analogy, except for the opposite reason you stated. If I happen to like the food at this place, I am definitely coming back to try the next best thing on the menu that I didn’t get to try the last time. Or, I will definitely come back to have the same thing again if I really liked it. If however they repeatedly removed the items I liked from the menu and instead added ones that I found bland and tasteless, I would eventually stop visiting completely.

There is no good reason at all not to add or even focus on adding permanent content to the game. Permanent and meaningful content needs to be the focus, with temporary being on the side.

Hey that link is purple, oh it’s that guy. I’m pretty sure his videos were posted in this forum before and laughed at for many reasons.

Sorry but hours of research doesn’t make you automatically correct. It doesn’t matter how long you research what 2 plus 2 equals, if your answer is 5, you’re still wrong. It’s been proven time and time again that conditions and support builds are less effective in every situation than full raw damage builds.

Also, no one who has any idea what they’re talking about is going to say only roll a warrior. Every class is great.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

in CDI

Posted by: Dog.1472

Dog.1472

I guess the only thing I want to add is please don’t ever time gate vertical progression.

Someone here said one of their favorite games, especially in terms of progression, is Final Fantasy Tactics? That’s an absolutely phenomenal game and you have great taste. One of the best things about the progression in that game is that you are allowed to progress as much as you can for however much time you spend towards that goal. That game doesn’t tell you that no additional amount of playing today will get you any closer to your goal and to just come back tomorrow. That’s great. I get to continue to play that game and develop however I see fit.

However, with laurels and their connection to vertical progression as it is in GW2, I can no longer make any progress towards the best stats in certain categories after having achieved my daily limits. This is incredibly frustrating especially to people who play multiple builds or multiple characters.

PVE Balance needs some love

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dog.1472

Dog.1472

The issue with conditions has to do with the core mechanics of the game. That currently is not a class balance issue as conditions are simply not effective currently. Now, I never said I was against changing the status quo to one that favors condition builds. That would actually be a big help to PvE and make things considerably more interesting.

In order for this to happen though, several changes need to happen. The first and most obvious one is that global caps need to be removed. Each individual character needs to have their own stacking cap that does not interfere with another player. Secondly, mechanics need to be introduced where certain bosses or mobs are far more susceptible to conditions than raw damage. In other words, multiple types of resistance that make bosses extremely resistant to one thing or another, to a point where in order to be as effective as possible, it would be ideal to bring classes that can cover raw damage for one encounter and another class that can bring condition damage for the next.

Now, that may contradict one of the values that GW2 has, which is that players should not have to being a specific class/build in order to clear an encounter. They do not want people waiting for a healer or a tank or a specific type of DPS class for example. So to that end, complete immunity to one or another is out of the question, but I would like to see some encounters made tedious unless you bring a specific damage type.

All of this then leads way to whether or not classes would be balanced in terms of condition builds. As these builds are not currently effective, I have no idea if they are balanced, but I’m pretty sure they aren’t. This would then require some significant trait and skill changes to see to it that they are. Every class should have a condition build as viable as another.

All of this is off topic though, because this is still an issue with the game’s core mechanics. Whether or not conditions are balanced has no affect on the current state of PvE. And ultimately, all this ever comes down to is DPS, that is the same for every game. Now, in other games, people need to put more effort into finding a way to stay alive, but at the end of the day, optimizing always comes down to DPS.

In terms of other buffs, I feel that every class except for necromancer is mostly balanced here. As I said before, they aren’t the best. They are only great in upper level fractals because of how amazing weakness is there, and necros have the best weakness uptime. However, they simply do not provide any might stacking, power based builds have okay vulnerability stacking which to do costs them a significant amount of their own DPS making it irrelevant, and they drop darkness fields which straight up interfere with useful combo fields. Several things can be done to easily make the necro just as great as the rest of the classes. Give them a melee weapon that deals as much damage as a dagger that also cleaves, give them a better way to cause vulnerability possibly with that cleave weapon, give them at least some might stacking, enhance their skills/traits in a way that gives them something comparable to spotter/frost spirit/empowered allies/banners, give them a projectile reflect skill. I certainly don’t expect all of these things at once, but if some of these things did happen then a necromancer would easily be viable to bring instead of another class in any situation. There’s also a lot more creative ways I’m sure that can make a necromancer more useful.

I said mostly balanced before because there are some things that are just necessary. Every single optimized party will always bring a warrior because the banners are just necessary. Rangers also provide similar support with spotter and frost spirit, again making them uniquely relevant. Other classes simply cannot provide these things, and currently make up for it mostly in their ability to grant specific boons. Elementalists grant the most might and fury, engineers inflict the most vulnerability, guardians provide aegis and stability to prevent any interruption in damage, mesmers have the best reflects and can grant party wide quickness, thieves provide part stealth and can spam blast finishers for numerous combinations with other classes. This is where a necromancer mostly sits out. However, I still see a pretty nice balance with the other 7 classes. It’s not the best, but it’s pretty cool. Warriors and rangers may have the upper hand here with support that no one else can provide, but I don’t consider it to be that big of a deal really.

I still personally have no issue with some classes having highers risk for the same reward. As I said before, I like this and I think it makes classes unique.

Well, this guy (Hahadori.7548) doesn’t fit your armor description, so it probably isn’t him, but he is probably the most BA asura I’ve seen and I’ll openly admit I was totally thinking of him when I made my necro. :P

It’s his eyes man. They can see things…

Wherever he is, I’m sure he already took over a world somewhere.

My “friend” would repeatedly use the cry emote whenever he was even marginally upset. It was torture.

Immediately makes me feel like a horrible person.

PVE Balance needs some love

I assume from your bolded statement that you are indeed aware that every class in the game is capable of very similar damage, with elemetnalist being the highest DPS class. I say this in particular because of both, how damage is all that matters in PvE and also because of the extreme number of misinformed people claiming warriors are just 10x more DPS than anything, which is absolutely, positively wrong. That is a fact.

So you know that, but you still feel PvE is unbalanced, and I assume that’s because of the increased difficulty some classes have in play? Regardless of whether or not every class is capable of achieving similar damage, it doesn’t change the fact that some classes are more difficult to play properly than others.

I don’t see this is a problem. This always reminds me of TERA, and how they tell you upfront that some classes are far more difficult to play. Like, a warrior tank. At least when I played that game, a warrior was a class that could tank, but in order to do so effectively, you needed to be a very skilled player. I only knew of about 2 people that could do this well enough.

And this is how I see classes in GW2. I find the more difficult to play classes infinitely more fun and rewarding. So, please don’t make my elementalist a faceroll easy class like warriors are. I want a class that can continue to perform while also remaining challenging to play. With things as they are now, classes are very much balanced in terms of capability, but yes they are unbalanced in terms of difficulty. The only class that’s in somewhat of a bad place is the necromancer, which is awesome only in upper level fractals, not so much normal dungeons.

December 10th patch: New optimal PvE traits

Most of my builds are pretty much the same. Ele has definitely changed though. I’ve been running 30/20/10/10/0 – II, VI, XI, VI, VII, VI, IV.

This of course leaves me with almost no ability to grant vulnerability on my own. Running S/D I believe my only vuln attack is scepter 2. In cases where vulnerability isn’t there I would just switch to fire attune instead of water. Missing out on 10% damage, but the fury combined with arcane lightning would (I think) make up for it.

I’m thinking largely in putting myself in a solo or terrible pug scenario, in which case vulnerability will most likely always be up and my contribution would be minimal, but the amount of fury that gets stacked after my blast rotation is absurd. Pretty much over the top excessive perma fury with fire XI.

I’m still not sure whether or not it would be better to do 25/25/10/10/0. I’m just being lazy and having fun with all that fury.
