I dunno, I don’t know why this is that surprising. This is what happens when is game has no subscription and is free to play. The money comes from somewhere, in this case it’s convenience and cosmetics.

The game already had almost the exact same things since launch. You could buy more character slots, more inventory slots, more bank slots. This is exactly the same as all of that. You don’t need these things to play. They add convenience, sure, but it ultimately doesn’t make or break the game for anyone.

If you don’t want to pay a subscription this is what you get.

The idea that a sylvari bookah could ever be more than a minor concern to the asura is utterly ridiculous. She seems nothing more than a fanciful fictional character that the sylvari bookahs made up in some outrageous story.

Time gating is the worst thing to happen to MMOs. Daily rewards are cool and all, but removing a player’s ability and choice to work towards their own goal in their own way is crap.

Most I had is like 120 or something.

I’m totally fine with more skins and cosmetic things for laurels, but I will burn things to the ground if they include more things that offer the best stats in a certain gear category. Like ascended amulets, that are not available anywhere else.

It’s more alt friendly than most games are, but to people that come from Final Fantasy XI or XIV, it definitely doesn’t seem too friendly. There are a lot of thing that need to be repeated if you want to just play as a different class.

It was an unfortunate event in our history, but it’s good to see more of it coming to light. I don’t find it surprising that a Sylvari was behind it; they are the single worst race to have ever plagued Tyria and should be systematically destroyed, but that is another discussion entirely.

One thing about it though that really makes me happy: everybody turns into an asura.

How do you feel when you see all of those bookahs suddenly look like intelligent beings? Finally being able to enjoy partying with people who appear to be competent for once is a great feeling. It’s like I’m more motivated than usual when I’m surrounded by those who I can put faith in. Also, backflips. Backflips everywhere. I love being in a party of 5 asura.

I personally find watching and even playing GW2 PvP to be incredibly boring. There needs to be more build up before the fight, or something. Coming up with builds to use in PvP tends to be the most interesting thing about it. Then it gets old.

Just looking at the amount of misinformation in the OP, his opinion is completely null.

Warrior absolutely does not bring the highest DPS as several people have already correctly stated. In situations where a fiery greatsword can be used, and elementalist will deal the highest single target and aoe damage. In situations where it cannot, an elementalist will still deal the highest aoe damage, while a thief will bring the highest single target damage. Then even after that every class is extremely close to warrior or slightly better than warrior. To say a warrior deals much more damage than anything is completely wrong.

On top of that there is one more very, very important fact that needs to be known. The difference between an optimized berserker/scholar rune/ruby orb build and a build that uses knights or soldiers or some other garbage is massive. I can absolutely guarantee beyond any doubt that my DPS based necromancer will far outdamage a knight wearing warrior by a significant margin. It’s not even close. Also before anyone goes “hurr durr”, yes I will live longer too because unlike most people that use garbage builds, I can dodge.

Guardian is not the best at reflects, traited mesmer is.

Before passing judgement on classes you need to learn how to play them, or actually play them first.

Every single class has a use somewhere in PvE where they offer something better than another class. I used to say the only class that was useless was necromnacer, but then I found out how incredibly awesome weakness is in upper level fractals. Doing fractals at high levels with a necromancer is so much easier than doing it without one.

Rangers, aside from having high damage themselves, also provide spotter and frost spirit for a significant boost to the party’s DPS. 1 ranger and 1 warrior is way better than 2 warriors.

Elementalists have the highest DPS in the game, they are the best might stackers in the game and have extreme versatility for every situation.

Engineers provide the best vulnerability stacking for berserker based builds (I know a condi based necro can stack more, but condi builds are not good), have by far the highest ranged damage, can provide might stacking and can even provide more healing to the party than you probably think.

I really wish I could -1 a post. Fortus has time and time again proven he is absolutely clueless and it never changes.

Anyway, at the end of the day most of this discussion is pointless. You can go ahead and figure out who can do the most damage in a very specific isolated environment, but the reality of it is that if you have to ask this question in the first place, then these numbers won’t mean anything to you. The game is not just about damage, there are countless other variables that need to be considered and factored in in order to create an ideal scenario.

An obvious example would just be buffs and debuffs. The majority of people do not even consider them and so a group of berserker whatever that maintains 25 stacks of might and 25 stacks of vulnerability will vastly outdamage a group that doesn’t consider it. Then you have unique support, no a warrior will not deal as much raw damage as other classes, but the banners and traits make them needed anyway.

Ultimately, every class has its uses, some are more useful in some situations than others, and every class is able to deal high damage as long as the person playing it is competent.

Thank you for this post LoreChief. As someone who has every class at level 80 for some time now and has used each of them extensively, I still don’t consider thieves to be OP. Never have. Whenever I play against one, I find it a fun and most definitely winnable challenge.

If anyone claims the dungeon is too difficult, the reality of it is that that person is just very, very, very, very bad.

I’m not kidding you, or trying to troll you. Learn how to play the game and develop your strategy properly. If you find AC difficult, you do not understand your class.

For the record, this argument about the difficulty was settled long ago when a group of 5 people made level 35 characters and cleared the dungeon with extreme ease.

But I am pretty certain that at the very least, the asura don’t discriminate about who another asura decides to partner with. They don’t make a big deal over whether a couple is the same or a different sex.

So maybe I kinda twisted that a little bit, but I do swear I remember reading something like that before.

Only major difference is that culturally, the asura do not really have traditional male/female relationships. The asura simply mate with those who have an intellect they find attractive regardless of gender.

I still don’t consider a mesmer a great choice unless reflects are involved, and I probably wouldn’t want one if not mainly for their utility.

Technically, the popular phantasm builds can do very good damage, but I personally have a lot of problems actually keeping these phantasms alive and doing damage, making the potential DPS moot. Maybe I’m just terrible at mesmer.

The numbers are there though, if you’re able to pull them off.

Light armor? I dunno, I think the cultural t3 light armor is the best looking set in the entire game. I have 3 full sets.

Oh please fix this. This happens constantly where I try to dodge, and just end up using up endurance without actually dodging and then getting hit.

When the game puts so much focus on dodging attacks, it’s really bad when the dodge doesn’t work properly.

The one class I would call useless is a necromancer. While it is capable of high damage, it offers next to no support aside from medicore vuln stacking at the cost of their own DPS, making it not worth it.

Necros bring the best group condition management in the game. They can provide sustained protection to the group, nearly if not fully 100% up time. They are probably the 3rd highest single target dps with dagger/power/zerk buids and easily the single highest DPS aoe build in the game with rampagers stats and contidion spreading. They provide regen to the group, large scale CC useful in many dungeon situations and can easily stack and maintain 25 stacks of vulnerability while keeping up might on themselves (at no dps loss like that guy would have you believe).

The only problems necros have in dungeon situations are with minions and multiple condition classes at once. You shouldn’t be stacking condi classes in groups anyway. Anet needs to fix pets for necros and rangers alike. Those problems aside, necros provide top rank dps and great group utility on par with any other class in the game when built and geared properly in a variety of viable builds.

Exactly what does protection, condition management and regen have to do with DPS? Absolutely nothing. If you want an optimizied DPS setup the one class that will never have a use is necromancer. There is not one thing they can do that another class won’t do better.

Sure, they can do cool things, but a necromancer will never have a place in an optimized party with the current state of the game.

In an ideal scenario the class that will be able to deal the most damage is an elementalist.

This requires multiple things though. You will need a ranger and a warrior for their unique support, and you will need to be able to maintain 25 stacks of might, vuln and fury. You will also need to push the mob into a wall.

So, let’s say you were in a dungeon, ideally you would want to bring at least a warrior, ranger and engi in order to maintain maximum support, then an elementalist with a fiery greatsword using 3 and 4 into a wall with no target will hands down be the king of damage. Alternatively, I believe a lightning hammer Ele will still be the highest damage even without the need to fight into a wall. Not by as much, but still the most.

This is all situational though. If you want solo DPS then an Engineer wins because of their extreme ability to stack both might and vulnerability on their own.

As someone else said though, the numbers are actually pretty close. The only class that doesn’t keep up with the rest is the mesmer, which is unquestionably the lowest DPS class, but because of their unique support, they often find themselves in speedruns anyway.

Lastly, warrior is not the highest DPS class. It is a faceroll class, definitely, but it is not the strongest.

Since this is a device, if it had settings, from Basic to Fine etc., with the cost scaling accordingly, then it might be worth it. No more trips to the bank or finding a vendor to get what you need.

You would pay for what you want as you want it. Convenient.

This prototype lacks features, but is a step in the right direction for such devices.

Edit: For basic salvage purposes, about the only great benefit is a savings in inventory space. I often carry several salvage kits with me when I go adventuring. The cost per salvaged piece remains about the same.

Re-edit: Upgrade this to have the capability of 100% recovery by using gems (scaled accordingly, comparable to a Black Lion Salvage Kit) and this would be the ultimate in convenience, as long as one has gems on hand.

When I finally got my last character to 80 it certainly felt like one heck of an achievement even without the game giving me shinies for doing so. I’m more happy about the fact that I’m a “Class Master” than anything.

It certainly could be an achievement and a title, but I don’t care either way. I just love having so many different abilities to choose from.

Anet is causing more harm than anything by trying to catch them rather than let them move on. Catering to a specific group that ends up hurting the rest is a bad idea.

This game made the impossible… I think this is the first MMO out there where a character built exclusively for damage dealing is considered “team contribution” and someone who builds for support is considered selfish… I truly am amazed of how did things turned out for this game.

It’s because Anet’s attempt at removing the holy trinity roles didn’t work.

Not only it didn’t work… it turned backward basic principles of team work in MMOs. There is 0 team work in GW2…. zero! and the irony behind this is so huge! This game aimed for extreme teamwork and failed so horribly.

To this day I still get kittened at in AC when I try to show someone how to use the Fiery Greatsword on the burrows.
