Honestly, I don’t care if people do or do not like it. It does cause other players to login which means more players. If someone is not able to login, they actually don’t need ascended.

And here we have the core of the problem. You are a communist. I am not trying to use the word as an insult, as most people I know consider it one, but rather, you are actually a communist by definition.

You have absolutely no right to tell me how or when I should be spending my time. If I want to spend 12 hours in one day farming for something, I should be able to spend 12 hours farming for something. If I don’t want to log in every day, and instead only log on during the weekend, then I should be able to do so without being penalized for it.

You need to read this and actually spend some time trying to understanding it.

“Let’s say they set the progress at 7 bananas to get an ascended helmet. You would have to spend let’s say 30 minutes every 24 hours to earn 1 banana. If you do not complete the objectives within those 24 hours, you do not get a banana.

Now let’s say because I have a job, I only get to play during the weekend. This means I only get to earn 2 bananas and it only takes me an hour to do so. Now, as I have dedicated all of my time to play to the weekend. I now have 19 more hours where I am left unable to make any sort of progress at all and I have nothing else to do.

Meanwhile, other players are able to earn that ascended helmet in 7 days, even if they only played the game for 3 and a half hours, yet it would take me almost an entire month, even though I’ve been spending over 5 times as much time playing."

This system essentially tells me that my time is not worth as much to Anet as another players simply, because I do not log in every day. That is outrageous and incredibly disrespectful to the player.

It is absolutely, positively unfair to prevent someone for making progress, even though they spend more time playing the game simply because they can’t log in every day. I value giving people the freedom to play as they can. The only way it can be fair for everyone is to reward people only for the amount of time they play, not when they play.

real value which is 7 days.

You need to stop posting and get it through your head that THIS IS WHAT TIME GATED CONTENT IS

I do not want gear that is worth 7 days. I want gear that is worth a certain amount of time, time that I can spend when I want to.

7 days is not the same amount of game time for everyone AT ALL.

And now you’re assuming everyone plays for exactly the same amount of time every day. Do you not see how terrible your logic is? That is wrong. Gear is worth a certain amount of time spent, not exact days.

I am seriously tired of trying to reason with you.

Content that rewards players for spending a certain amount of time is fair to everyone. Content that limits people to only make so much progress within set amount of time limits the way people can play the game.

Do you not understand that there are people that want the gear now and want it over with? This is not something I need to have to deal with every freaking day. I farm my gear and then move on to content that is actually fun to do.

You are acting as if the only purpose to the game is getting better gear and therefore it needs to be something that I cannot physically complete for years. I want my gear now, then I move on to using it in dungeons, or other actual content that is the real reason people play.

I do not want to deal with dailies at all.

I said bananas, not laurels. We are talking about a different time gated content.

You are still not understanding that you are taking away rewards for time spent. Again, you are preventing people from making progress the way that they are able to. Any system that rewards players for logging on every day instead of spending a certain amount of time doing something creates limits that are unfair to people.

You do not even have good logic here.

If it only takes 30 minutes to get 1 banana and it takes 7 bananas to get an ascended helmet, then it should only take 3.5 hours to get an ascended helmet.

You need to stop saying omigosh now it would take you 8 hours to get a banana since it isn’t time gated. That is wrong.

And now you’re making ridiculous assumptions that they would make the things as difficult to get as legendaries.

Here’s another example using your moronic viewpoint. Let’s say they set the progress at 7 bananas to get an ascended helmet.

Meanwhile, other players are able to earn that ascended helmet in 7 days, even if they only played the game for 3 and a half hours, yet it would take me almost an entire month, even though I’ve been spending over 5 times as much time playing.

You are going on acting as if the only alternative to dailies is to make things impossibly difficult and grindy to get, which is wrong and incredibly misleading.

You fail to realize that many people don’t want to wait around sitting on their hands for their gear. People want to focus their time on getting their gear, and then move on.

It’s simple, limiting progress prevents people from playing how they want to or how they’re able to.

It is a bad way of forcing people to play the game every day. If they want people to keep playing the game they need to do so with content that is fun and rewarding, not time gated.

I dont get how this type of time gating is supposed to be forcing people to play every day.

So you need 20 laurels to buy an ascended gear piece. That can take you as little as 10 days to get to as much as a year. You’re free to get those 20 laurels when ever you want. It can take you a full year its not a problem. The only reason people feel force is cause they want to get it in the least amount of time possible. If I want to only play during weekend I can do that. it will take me exactly 1 month and 1 week for a piece. But why is that just an issue with dailies and not with everything else?

If I want tier 3 cultural armor it will cost me about 20g a piece. If say I make 2g in a typical gaming session it will take me 10 days to earn enough for one piece. Again that can mean as little as 10 days or as long as a year. If I just play weekends like the example above it will take me 1 month 2 weeks for a single piece.

I dont get it, how is laurels different then gold? If anything laurels is reducing the pressure because if you can play during the week but really cant help yourself cause you just want this piece as soon as possible with the daily its 30 minutes and you’re done. with gold you’ll keep on at it for much longer.

Seems to me its not time gating thats making you play every day, its you who’s making you play every day cause you’re not willing to wait for the reward. Time gate or not thats not going to change.

Yes, the whole purpose of time gating content is to get people to play every day. Dailies force you to log in during a specific time frame and spend x amount of time at y amount of time. If you do not log in at y time, you lose x time completely. Without them, I can log on whenever and make whatever progress, playing when I want to how I want to.

Time gating doesn’t give me an option, it’s that simple.

This type of system removes progress for your efforts and caters to filthy casuals.

Sorry, but your post really kitten es me off. I don’t need someone telling me how I can make progress and limiting the ways that I can do it.

Anet seriously needs to learn how to balance classes though. Rangers/Engineers are in the trashcan at the moment because their damage is so terrible. I kind of gave up on Rangers since Guild Wars 1. I played a Ranger, complained multiple times that it needed a damage boost, and never received a single response back. Turns out that I shouldn’t have just left my Ranger. I should’ve just left the game.

You are so kittening wrong that it’s making my eyes bleed.

Oh. My. God. Another one.

Let me clear this up guys.

OP is a staff ele that was ganked by a thief and refuses to make any effort of becoming a better player. There is a myriad of ways to counter stealth and it is very risky to actually play as a thief, but because OP has tunnel vision, he simply cannot understand this.

It’s so, so, so simple. L2P. I don’t have problems with thieves, nor should you, unless you are a bad player that refuses to learn. Stop trying to tell yourself that classes are unbalanced, wake up, drink some coffee, and become a better player.

Your intent may not have been a thread directing the devs to nerf thieves, but that’s what it’s become. There’s a high risk factor to every fight when playing glass, yet people don’t see it. Invisibility =/= invulnerability. A successful attack against a stealthed GC thief does significant damage and they often cripple under heavy AoE (which the ele has a lot of!).

Stop calling for an all-out nerf to thieves. In Street Fighter did you spam buttons against every opponent you fought against? You probably didn’t get far in the game if you did. Learning to fight other classes is the same way. A simple dodge can mess up a glass thief’s entire rotation and at that point, they have very little initiative left. Your ele is obviously as glassy as they come judging by how quickly you went down and you’re exactly the type of player glass cannon thieves excel in killing: slow, unresponsive, and definitely NOT wearing any sort of PTV gear.

Had you built for more survivability, that thief would never have had a shot at killing you while you were in the midst of your group. Don’t blame the thief for your failure. Blame yourself and get better instead of being a bad player whining about being ganked on the forums.

I’m sorry, but common sense is lost here.

It would seem the majority of the people here can’t handle the concept that they are bad players. In their minds they are the greatest thing to have ever graced the fields of WvW and therefore, being killed means everything is unbalanced.

Did I make a mistake here? Nope, IMBA.

I’ve played every class. You shouldn’t have deleted your thief. If you played it longer, you would know that you are not untouchable in stealth. You are invisible, that’s it. Knowing that you can assume where the thief is going to be and what they’re doing. You can lay down attacks and kill them, you can use mist form so they can’t backstab you and their stealth wears out. You can even dodge it.

Now, if I was using a staff, I’d probably be dead. Plain and simple, some builds don’t work in 1v1, like a staff Ele. That isn’t unbalance. That’s rock being better than scissors.

I’ve been killed by thieves and I’ve killed plenty of them too. If you think there’s nothing you can do, the problem is you, not the class.

L2P, it’s that simple.

If you actually spent some time thinking about how to counter the thief instead of complaining that it should be nerfed, you wouldn’t be having a problem.

There simply is no balance, to assume there is was your mistake.

There is no reason to play anything other than Warrior for PvE or Guard in WvW

Anything else and you’re automatically gimping yourself, just look at the numbers.

Sure you can “like” other classes, but we’re talking about numbers and balance. Nothing self-heals as much or deals as much damage than the warrior in PvE and nothing brings as much or lives as long as a guard in zerg WvW. Its not even a close call either, we’re talking DOUBLE the values most of the time.

Its just silly how a select few classes get the tools for the job and the rest get shafted. Buff everybody else to be on par? Nope, not in my game!

Yet again more false information. Warrior is not even the highest DPS if you actually read the spreadsheets. Stop making wrong assumptions.

http://youtu.be/PWQ-39_C8LI

Tell me again how warriors are just double damage than everything. You are wrong.

As a mostly PvEer, the number one thing I look at is a player’s performance in dungeons. When I see people that have clearly done research into their class, and actually make an effort to optimize their rotations, I automatically have a lot of respect for that person.

Likewise, if I see a player, like a guardian who runs full cleric and sits there with a staff going “HURR DURR IM A HEALER”, I have absolutely no respect for you.

Nothing else really matters to me. I don’t care if you have a million achievement points or a legendary, these things just take time. It’s all about whether or not someone has the decency to play the game well.

The introductory dungeons are the story modes. AC Explore is not too difficult. This topic was already beaten to death and put to rest once a group of 5 people made level 35 alts and cleared it with ease.

The idea, at least at some point, was to revamp several more explore modes the way that they did with AC in order to make them less stupid. I think they’ve been busy with the living world thing though.

Choosing an “answer” to agree with your opinion, biased much?

Many of you go on about how it is just a game without realizing it is just a game. That is why the achievement system is what’s wrong. You think human nature is what needs to be changed when it never will, because its human nature.

Your achievements are not your achievements, they are a number that people equate to experience. These problems didn’t exist when there was no achievement system. People did what was fun and that was that.

Achievements bring people into content they don’t consider fun because they reward players in ways not relating to that content. That’s the problem.

The ‘achievement system’ has been in the game since the beginning. People were doing them anyway. Using them as guides to help them find little things, using them as goals both long and short term, etc. People did the ones they wanted to do and were happy. They only difference now is that we get nice tidbits for the work we put in. There is no reason to change how you treat that list of achievements unless you are playing only for the shinies. Sure, if you are playing a reward centric game, you’re going to suddenly grind those APs and that is the issue. Greed.

I am speaking about MMOs in their entirety. Ones that didn’t have the system didn’t have the problem.

Again, this is a video game. You are setting out on a grand quest to change the way people behave, only a fool will think they can accomplish that. Video games are tailored for people’s entertainment. They are not designed to change human nature.

Don’t like the complaining, change the achievement system. When you give people a number that they can brag about, they are going to set out to get it as big as possible with as little effort as possible, particularly when it involves things that are not fun. When you introduce rewards, same problem.

People play video games to be entertained, not to be required to be morally ethical or do work.

Gold Find - To follow MF nerf?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Dog.1472

Dog.1472

Some of you don’t seem to understand the issue with magic find at all. The problem is that you are purposely gimping yourself, choosing to be weaker in order to get better rewards. This is both incredibly selfish and incredibly disrespectful to those you are playing with. If you use MF in any way except solo play, you are a leech and a horrible person.

It doesn’t matter at all if the new system can achieve as much as the old, the only thing that matter is that it’s gone. It is disgusting as it is now.

If you are telling other people how to play their game, that they paid for, with their free time, for their enjoyment. Because that’s how you play. You are a snob, and a horrible person. When you pay for their gear and their game, and their connection, then you can tell them how to play.

What part of co-operative play do you not understand? How unbelievably selfish do you need to be not to see how wasting other people’s time for your own benefit is a poorly implemented system?

When you run content with other people, it is very simple, you are either playing to the best of your ability, or, if you ran with MF, you are choosing to hold everyone back for your own greed.

Your “argument” is the most utterly ridiculous self righteous bull crap I’ve ever heard.

You do whatever you want to do solo, but when you decide to group up with other people, you’re godkitten right I’m going to start telling you how to play.

You see it mostly with the living story achievements because they’re limited. Players have a short time to do something they don’t want to do in order to “finish” it.

Now we have rewards, so again, people are trying to do things they don’t want to do in order to get things they want.

It’s all about giving general rewards to the game through content that many people want nothing to do with.

I don’t think the problem is as much with the players as with the achievement system itself. General rewards, whether it be a skin or a number, shouldn’t be added up as a single entity. Each individual aspect of the game should be kept separate.

When Anet decided they wanted to remove the trinity, what they actually ended up doing was remove tanks and healers. This is a game with one class, DPS. If you try to put focus into healing, you end up being a DPS that has some heals and does less damage than the tank without actually healing anybody. Don’t be that guy.

The only way to “solve the problem” is to reintroduce the trinity. However, I don’t think it’s too much of a problem. It’s a faster paced, more exciting combat when you have no one holding your hand.

Well obviously the point is to have high levelled reward too, and the only reward difference that matters between doing level 48 and level 2 is the tier of daily chest you get after maw

But you got to high level so why can’t you get a proper reward? Would you be okay if you had to swap your characters to the one that did story mode so you can get full amount of tokens?

Interestingly, I think a number of people suggested that as a way to get people to do story modes more often. It wouldn’t work in the long run, obviously.

Anywho, leveling up each of your characters is a grind, nothing more. Sometimes grind is good and sometimes it’s excessive. I think FotM is excessive.

Sorry, on topic, I disagree with just about everything. I have played every class extensively and have every class at level 80. This is more a L2P issue than anything else.

For example, ever since I started using a new thief build I came up with, survivability has become a joke, especially next to a war. I find thief to be a ludicrously durable class, why? Because I have nearly infinite dodges, can heal myself far more than a warrior can and all while being fully glass and having top tier DPS.

The issue is not that the classes are horribly out of balance, but that some classes are easier to play than others.

You use CoF as an example and so will I, try joining parties who are incredibly experienced and farm by doing both paths 1 and 2 and swapping through multiple characters. Even though party composition will be all over the place, each and every run is done at nearly the same pace. Why? Because people that do this are for more experienced with the game in general and know how to play.

People see a new player on a necromancer, trying to use a condition build in a way that doesn’t work and automatically assume that necromancers are therefore terrible. The reality of it is that that player has no idea what they’re doing.

The community has one perception and that is what gets eaten up by everyone. However, classes are far closer to one another in terms of strength than people assume. Experience trumps everything else, and the classes you believe are the best are simply the easiest to perform.

Only inexperienced players are going to demand a specific class setup, yes, even in Arah or FotM 40+.

I’m sorry, but you need to accept that the asura are superior to all other races. The game isn’t designed around them, they are simply better.

Every time some player talks about engineer dps and grenades, my hands hurt.
Seriously, ever tried using a grenade engineer? No autoattack, you’ve got to spam every- single-one of them. Now do that all the time while playing. You’re basically asking for a carpal tunnel syndrome doing so.
Such a build isn’t feasible in the long run – for your health.

Precisely the point i was making in my post, the fact they are all aim based skills just doesn’t make it feasible but this is straying of the main topic at hand a bit :P

While this may be true if you use a normal mouse/keyboard, it isn’t true at all if you use gaming specific peripherals and customize your interface as I do.

A nade Engi is very realistic and incredibly fun to those that know what they’re doing.

I think the issue is that you need to compare the average players to the elite hardcore types. If you try to make it rewarding to the average group, those hardcore types will find a way to farm this path in 10 minutes.

I doubt an average pug will be able to find this rewarding, but perhaps skilled players can.

Still, there’s also the issue of drops. Essence just doesn’t compare to cores/lodestones or such.

Gold Find - To follow MF nerf?

Some of you don’t seem to understand the issue with magic find at all. The problem is that you are purposely gimping yourself, choosing to be weaker in order to get better rewards. This is both incredibly selfish and incredibly disrespectful to those you are playing with. If you use MF in any way except solo play, you are a leech and a horrible person.

It doesn’t matter at all if the new system can achieve as much as the old, the only thing that matter is that it’s gone. It is disgusting as it is now.

As someone with 8 level 80s, I am very concerned. They said that making ascended gear will be time gated, so that means no amount of work I do will bring me any closer to gearing up all of my characters.

I find this incredibly stupid.

I am honestly a bit amazed that people are defending the lack of a LFG tool in the game.

How in the kitten are people actually against easier/better methods to form parties?

No matter how many times someone complains about this, which is a lot, it never becomes less valid. There is no good reason that people have to go to a third party website to do something that should be available in game instead.

Considering the extreme traffic that gw2lfg gets, it’s all the more reason that this should be in the game itself.
