sword/torch??

As an ele, I hate it when guardians use a shield. Please don’t knock enemies all over the place. If they stay close together, they get aoe’d to death. The protection on the shield is great, but you have a lot of other ways to get protection.

I use greatsword and scepter/torch. GS and scepter for obvious reasons, and the torch allows for that impressive #4 spike, but then the #5 is also very good. Yes, it doesn’t do as much damage against a single target and is usually worthless in 1v1, but how often are you in a 1v1 situation? That skill does amazing damage when you use it on a group, oh and it cures conditions too.

Focus always seems like a viable option to me, but only if you can recognize when your opponent is about to use a strong spike. For example, using the focus block when your opponent tries to use the torch 4 would be pretty significant.

Staff doesn’t have any control abilities? Wut? I kite like a boss with the staff. Fire has a fantastic evade skill to use in addition to your endurance that also burns people, water has chill to reduce movement to a near 0 and also slow down skill use, air has a knockback, stun and swiftness, and earth has cripple and immobilize. Chance are, you will always have a control ability you can use with the staff.

The problem with the staff is that is has nothing in the way of attacking a single target. It’s pretty exclusively an aoe weapon, but don’t tell me it’s lacking in control.

It’s interesting that you say Fractals just increases numbers without changing mechanics and then complain about the nerf when all that will change is the numbers. The mechanics will still be exactly the same.

Except the mehanic won’t be the same. On the previous page, it is said that they will be nerfing the healing mechanic, not a simple overall boss HP decrease. It is also said that the healing mechanic will eventually be removed entirely and replaced with something less punishing. I read that as it being replaced with something much easier. I don’t mind a good, punishing mechanic on an “endboss”.

In Fractals, there are no new mechanics added after the level ten difficulty increase. Instead of just raw numbers, Fractals would be more interesting if new mechanics were added in each new tier past 10-19. For example, they could make the Imbued Shaman gain a stacking speed boost while under his shield every time one of his adds hits you with a new melee attack, forcing players to properly control the adds.

To say that reducing the amount she heals is changing the mechanic would be no different than saying increasing the amount of damage that agony does is changing the mechanic. Once again, all that is changing for now is the numbers. If you think she doesn’t heal enough anymore, simple, have everyone in your party use soldier gear. You’ll have your “challenge”.

Yes, he said he’s thinking about replacing the healing mechanic with something else, but nothing has been actually planned for that yet. Also, he never said it would be less punishing. It simply wouldn’t be a DPS check anymore.

I would definitely like to have more cosmetic items though.

I get my dailies done just by playing naturally.

You regularly craft 10 items at once during natural play?

Actually, I tend to craft a bunch of excess materials once I get to 250 and no longer have room for them in the bank, so kinda.

The way I feel about this is that when you pug, anything goes. It’s always been this way. There are always players that are severely under geared and it’s up to you whether or not you’re willing to carry them. I suppose the only difference here is that I can’t check gear.

Now, at first, I wished there was a way for players to check another’s gear, but then I sat on it for a while and thought about it. In the past, I am very much guilty of asking other players to leave or ultimately kicking them from the party after checking their gear and seeing that they’re using something of a much lower level than what is expected for that instance.

On one hand, players are about to dedicate a significant amount of time with one another, they should be able to see if everyone is geared well enough to complete that run. However, GW2 is not other MMOs. More than anything else, a player’s skill will determine their success. This game is not so hunched up on numbers (excluding Arah path 4) that your gear will make or break you. People at level 35 with level 35 gear will not only be able to clear those AC paths, but are also made to be able to. You do not need to spend weeks farming a dungeon simply to finally get that top tier sword. Guild Wars 2 is NOT other MMOs, because of that, I feel it would be detrimental to the community to allow others to inspect gear.

I feel that way because this game is made to be player friendly. Creating an elitist community where everyone needs to have top tier gear or be kicked is exactly what is trying to be avoided. So, allowing people to inspect gear would only make this problem worse. Instead, if someone is that hung up on what gear everyone in the party is using, they should join a guild, get some friends, and organize runs with other like minded individuals.

This is Guild Wars after all, not PUG Wars.

If someone actually has to make an effort to get daily dodger, they are doing something horribly wrong.

Because of how easy it is for everyone to tag mobs in GW2, I don’t think anything of the daily achievements. They are all incredibly easy to accomplish. The only thing that I do slightly differently is that I now wait for other players to start resing somebody so that we all get credit for it, but it’s not really a big deal IMO.

In zergs, I do not enjoy playing Guardian, however, it is still an extremely handy class to have in the zerg. Your heals, aegis, survivability, and projectile block/reflect keeps people alive. The problem with that of course is that you aren’t rewarded for support and it’s just plain boring.

However, I really enjoy roaming solo or in small groups and flipping camps. The Guardian is capable of some very nice DPS paired with extreme survivability with the right stuff.

I just went and did my Fractals daily with another guild. I’m lucky they didn’t kick me, I wasn’t really thinking about it. Thankfully, not everyone is that low.

The fact that you lose all party chat logs on leaving a party makes reporting something like this pretty difficult. Perhaps we should take a lesson from Russia and start recording everything, until they do something about this at least. This mentality needs to be stopped.

Personally, I want more difficulty in dungeons, not easier dungeons that everyone can beat. And no, false difficulty from Agony in FotM doesn’t count. Fractals are no harder than any other dungeon, while some Fractals are arguably easier than some other dungeons.

I agree that more difficulty would be better, but a DPS check really isn’t difficulty in my opinion. It’s a mechanic, sure, but after you learn all her mechanics its just down to raw numbers, and I don’t agree that is as fun as running sparks and using tears to cleanse people. Right now Simin just forces you to bring high DPS with you, which I’m not a fan of. Its a tough fight for the wrong reason, and her core mechanics should be more emphasized, not her health bar.

Thank you, this is exactly how I feel about this fight, I’ve just never been able to word it so well. DPS checks are not how you add difficulty. Adding complicated mechanics, strong attacks people need to learn how to dodge, etc., that is what difficulty is. Preparing so that everyone has to bring zerker gear is just tedious, not difficult. Especially when all classes are not created equal in this regard.

So the world of Tyria as it is now in GW2 has quite a few environments, but it doesn’t have everything. What are some of the areas that you would like to see more of, or would like to see added?

For me, out of all the areas in the game, by far my favorite is Frostgorge Sound. The underwater parts of this level were absolutely incredible. I kept wondering, HOW MUCH FURTHER DOWN DOES THIS GO?! o.o I’ve never seen an area like this before and so exploring it was so fun and interesting. I would love to see more places like this added in the future.

I also loved Godslost Swamp in Queensdale. The effects in this area really brought it life… err… death. The atmosphere here was unlike anything else. It was so spooky, but neat at the same time.

Oh, and we could always use more Asura cities.

One environment that doesn’t exist in Tyria that I would like to see would be a desert. We have the rocky/mountainous areas, and we have the wasteland areas of Orr, but we don’t have an actual sandy desert with dunes and cacti and kitten. I’ve always liked the desert areas and would like to see one added somewhere. Fortunately, it looks like we have one coming from the looks of the world map.

Here’s some pictures of my exploration. If anyone else has pictures of their favorite places of Tyria or from previous MMOs that they’d like to see added, that would be awesome.

AOE Changes Concerns (Staff)

in Elementalist

Posted by: Dog.1472

Dog.1472

I think the damages will be exponentially reduce.

For example Meteor Shower:
Example:
First hit – 1000 damage
Second hit – 500 damage
third hit – 250 damage
fourth hit – 125 damage
fifth hit – 62.5 damage
and so on…..

That is what I am expecting for meteor shower.

The other AoE also will be exponentially reduce damages over time or something like that….. it will happen……..

This actually sounds like the most sensible thing that will happen. The devs have expressed concern that people are using aoes for single targets rather than on groups, which is what they’re intended for. By reducing the damage done to one single target for each consecutive hit, it will do exactly that.

The problem I have with that though, is that when you’re using the staff, what then do you do when you have to fight a single target? The Ele doesn’t get to easily swap to another weapon. I will be stuck with a weapon that has 20 abilities to use against groups. This will kinda suck when fighting a boss. It’s not like the Ele has great single target dps to begin with anyway.

For open world solo, lightning hammer. Seriously. The basic attack has a large area of effect, it does very high damage, and it causes blindness long enough and quickly enough that it never wears out. Sure, other weapons are more fun to use, but the lightning hammer gets it done quickly and you never take damage.

For group open world, staff. You will be fighting large mobs, for that, you are going to want all the aoes and ccs the staff has.

For dungeons, either staff or d/d, it depends. You have easy dungeons like AC, or ones that melee works better most of the time like CoE, or you have dungeons like Arah where you need to keep your distance. Many dungeons require varied strats, There is no one choice here.

How can I defeat a D/D elementalist?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Dog.1472

Dog.1472

Really, you just can’t. Eles can cure conditions better than anyone, so chances are, even if you throw chill, cripple, stun, whatever at them, they will remove them faster than you can cause them. Your best bet is to have high toughness and vitality. An Ele’s main strength is their ability to outlast. Our DPS isn’t amazing. All you can hope for is being able to heal/take more damage than an Ele can deal.

If things don’t go in favor of the Ele, they will run away and you won’t catch them. I’ve had more than five people ambush me, and I can still run away. What chances do you have of catching them in 1v1?

Oh combos, for the most part you won’t need to pay attention to them a lot, but when playing in parties I find the air staff 5 to be incredibly useful. The way that this ability works is that it creates a circle of lightning that stuns any enemy that tries to cross through the edge of it. Despite that, I will always throw this up even on enemies that don’t move, not because I’m kitten but because of the field combo effects. An electric field will add either daze (prevents an enemy from attacking) or vulnerability (increases overall damage) to player’s attacks. This is obviously incredibly useful. After that I switch to earth as it adds vulnerability to a couple of your attacks.

Your fire fields will create fire aura for other players, causing burning whenever they’re hit, or just add burning to their attacks, your ice fields will add chill to their attacks, increasing how long chill lasts for and chill is one of the best conditions not only because it makes your enemies nearly immobile, but it also slows their attacks down, and your healing fields will add regeneration, increasing the amount of health that is restored to allies. You should definitely be paying attention to an ally’s health and throw out your healing fields when you can. Too many people ignore this. Staying alive is more important than dealing damage. It doesn’t matter how much damage you do if you’re constantly downed and making your allies stop to res you to boot.

If you have melee in your party, chances are they take a lot of damage, don’t forget that your basic water attack heals allies that are near your target. This can keep melee up for a long time. Air may not be as strong against single targets, but the attacks bounce off from one enemy to another, making this your strongest base attack against groups. Eles have a lot to think about.

For a new Ele, as well as for an experienced one, soldier gear (Power, Toughnes, Vitality) goes a long way. I would definitely recommend you grab this armor set first, as it allows you to become more familiar with your class while also allowing you to recover from your mistakes. The easiest way to get this set is to run AC until you have enough tears to buy it from the merchant in LA.

As for weapons, I find both the staff and duel daggers are useful in different situations. You will want them both. The staff is much easier to use, so that’s another good thing to start with, but you will want to start using daggers soon too. Now, you will probably suck with them at first because they can take a while to get used to, but the longer you use them, the better you’ll be with them. If you decide to run AC for the gear, that’s a pretty good place to practice with them since it’s a very easy dungeon.

One of the most important things about the Ele would be your traits. The stats you get from them are great, but the abilities themselves are drastically more important and should be your foremost thought when deciding where to put your points. Even if you’re building a glass cannon, I feel that water and arcana are the two most important trees because of the abilities. You will definitely want to get the ability that grants you and all nearby allies a buff every time you change attunement. This allows you to grant your party and yourself multiple boons that are incredibly useful. There’s also 20% faster recharge on cantrips, cantrips grant regeneration, granting regeneration to yourself or an ally removes a condition. Those traits in combination give the Ele some fantastic condition removal. There’s also an ability that increases the size of your staff aoes, which is also great, since an Ele is mostly an aoe class.

Speaking of cantrips, those 4 utilities are fantastic. They break you out of stun, mist form makes you invulnerable for a while and let’s you escape from ugly situations, or just walk right through mobs, lightning flash allows for some incredible combinations with abilities that require you to stand still and gives you another fantastic escape option, and cleansing fire is a life saver against necromancers or other high condition mobs. You will probably want to fill up your utilities with cantrips most of the time, but you have some other abilities that are great on rare occasions. (Ice Bow is incredible at destroying structures)

What weapon skills to use would take too long to explain, but I can say already that your pattern is a little off to me. I would always start off with a CC ability when using the staff unless you’re fighting really weak mobs. Water staff 4 (aoe chill), air staff 5 (aoe stun), or earth staff 4 (aoe cripple) are all great not only at buying you time, but also keeping the mobs in place so that you can nail them with your static aoes. Really you just need to take a look at all of your abilities and memorize all of them. If you are sticking on one element, you’re doing it wrong. Your cooldowns are so long that swapping elements and taking advantage of every ability you have is a must.

It’s not possible for me to tell you exactly how you should be playing the game because everyone plays slightly differently and can be better at one thing or another. You just need to find out yourself through practice what you prefer, but I hope my recommendations can help you off your feet. The Ele is a fantastic and fun class to play.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I think with everybody being responsible for everything, it actually adds a lot more depth to this game that people still haven’t been able to fully realize. Everyone needs to think outside of the trinity box and become more familiar with all of the jobs of GW2 and what they are capable of.

By simply having this person DPS, this person heal and that person tank, combat becomes very boring and stale after a while. Now, with the difficulty of GW2 being as it is, a lot of dungeons can be completed without much organization. However, every class in this game is incredibly unique and has several abilities that define them. When guild/party leaders are familiar with what everyone is capable of doing and are able to coordinate their members’ abilities, a whole new world of depth opens up.

I think if more difficult objectives/dungeons were added, people would begin to take another look at how teams can be managed. As it is now, people like to take the easy road and find some way to exploit the game’s mechanics. All dungeons have been is finding a way to jump on some ledge that makes you impossible to hit and gives you a clear shot at the boss.

We don’t need to have the same old trinity roles anymore. I think it’s time to try something new.

I like having people pushed into WvW because it gets people to experience it. I’m sure there are those who wouldn’t have played it otherwise that ended up being hooked simply because their quest to 100% brought them there.

Besides, what reason do people have to 100%? Right now, the only reason is to get an ingredient needed for the legendary weapons. What do legendaries represent? Experience in all areas of the game. Removing WvW participation from that requirement means legendaries will lose part of their meaning. They are intended for people that have seen all there is in GW2, not for people that only play part of it.
