^ I’ve been levelling my Guardian by swapping it in at the end of dungeons for what feels like a month. Definitely the cheapest and easiest way but certainly not the fastest.
Gear isn’t really an issue, though I might stall a bit getting ascended (laurels and guild commendations, eugh.)
If your team is squishy then that ideally means berserker gear (or naked?)
Have an Ele drop Fiery Greatsword and do the old “untargeted Fiery Rush into the wall making sure you’ve got auto target turned off in options” and bam, no more DPS issues.
I think what people meant in the other thread is to have two Elementalists, one on staff and one on LH. Whilst an interesting concept I doubt it would outweigh the benefit of rapidly stacking might before/between hammers with Scepter/x.
But don’t let me deter you (and stop letting yourself get derailed by wannabe warriors who want to faceroll in every class.)
Haha Zelyhn I deleted my post because it was completely uncalled for. As long as at least one group can cater to the needs of the Elementalist without gimping their own damage in the process, then it’s a completely viable build for speed kills and the like, such as yeah, Lupi. I forget that I’m not the only on this forum.
There’s a bug (not sure if it’s been fixed) where if another member enters Story Mode then leaves the instance, the whole party will only be able to join on that instance despite no one being in it. The only fix I know of is to just kick and reinvite that person, which would then terminate the instance allowing you to start Explorable. If you already tried disbanding the party then maybe you left your Story Mode before you actually received credit for it?
There’s really nothing wrong with ranging Lupi if you’re not confident enough to melee. But I personally find that takes the fun out of it, and would rather faceplant till I learn how to do it confidently.
What is wrong is telling others to “L2P” and generally being a condescending tool when you’ve taken the easy (and slow) PuG way out.
Out of curiosity do you melee Lupi now? Or did you just stop with the ‘difficult’ dungeons after getting DM?
Forcing new players to learn everything for themselves? That’s a terrible idea. Imagine if every generation had to rediscover the laws of physics (as an example) because the older generation were senile trolls that thought we shouldn’t evolve as a species.
The GW2 player base can only improve if we pass on what we know so they can spend their time improving upon it and developing better tactics of their own (if that’s even possible.)
Scholar encourages better gameplay. Same with taking stacking sigils.

The specific problem is player skill. Being good at doing Arah is easy, you can study it and watch videos, understand what to do and go for it.
On the other hand, dodging, utility skills and traits are game changing things. I personally don’t care if you have never done arah before, but if you keep dying during lupicus fight, you should go do easier stuff and l2p

heres a thought… l2play… my first lupi kill i didnt get downed once because i actually pay attention and know how to dodge
1) Was this a full melee fight?
2) Was the kill under 2 mins?
3) Were there no Cleric Guardian/s healing you through most attacks?
4) Were you in full Berserker gear?
Optional 5) Did you use your mad skills to solo him on the first go?
Even if you answered yes to just 1-4 above conditions then I am genuinely impressed, on my first ever Lupi even after watching Strife’s video I still got the Aegis proc on his first kick. Go me, and in phase 3 I moved around too much and pretty much got most of my party killed.
Clearly I’m not the best player but I’m not going to get better at fighting Lupi by say, farming Meta Events. You get better at fighting Lupi, by fighting Lupi, I can only be thankful that I had a guild who bothered to teach me as opposed to just telling me “L2P you should be able to get this guy on your first attempt you scrub.”

Thats strange actually. Ive never seen a single group trying to kill that spider normally, but i guess now with CoF nerf, people do differents dungeons and start to learn the right methods. But yea if you are warrior i see no reason to not like stacking it just make it easier to DPS the boss.
I can duo it on my zerk Necromancer the way it’s supposed to be done.

So it’s about as good at damage as Warrior OH Axe? Though I can see the benefit of a projectile absorb in some situations for yourself (and your stacked up team too?)
Also I tend to agree that 15% crit damage and 150 precision w/ trap CD reduction is better than another scholar buff + OH CD reduction + Survival CD reduction for Quickening Zephyr and a bunch of useless stats. Well maybe in long drawn out fights the more frequent quickness and Warhorn blasts might come out on top, I don’t really know.
You only need to kill 13 things, and it takes 5 seconds to fully stack in Arah. You can also stack on the trash before path selection in CoE.
I forget people do this. To be honest I’m not sure why I don’t have two stacking weapons myself.
I’m only suggesting that we try to keep variables to a minimum for easy comparisons. Like Haviz said I assumed that Vuln, slayer potions and all that jazz added a flat bonus to the build’s damage output. But I see what you mean about including Banner of Strength + bloodlust because it would skew results with builds that have different damage modifiers.
But really if x build was better than y build only when it had full stacks I know which one I’d rather use from day to day xD

This thread is pretty much over so completely off topic question. Despite being my first toon I’m only gearing up my Ranger now. I read through the traits and pets, asked around and ended up going 20/15/25/10/0 – I ,VII/I/VI,VII/IV with Sword/Warhorn + Torch w/ Quickening Zephyr, Flame Trap, Frost Spirit and Rampage as One. Going with Jaguar + Jungle Stalker. I was going to practice with PuGs as there isn’t really an established place for one in guild runs, and was just hoping for some insight or something I’ve overlooked when trying to min/max (I thought torch + flame trap for the fire fields though I seem to only have one blast finisher myself.)
You’re comparing x build using a slayer potion against y build using the exact same slayer potion, you can just cancel them out and keep things simple? :/
Adding 10% damage seems unnecessary when the ultimate goal is seeing which build comes out on top. Same can be said about Banner of Strength and Scholar Runes (though most people have this anyway so I would consider it a constant between two different builds.)
I suggested excluding stacks because well… As an example if a build depends on maintaining perception stacks to give itself a reasonable crit chance (>85% or so) then that’s rather counter productive because there aren’t many dungeons where you can get stacks right off the get go, just look at CoE p1, I don’t even think there’s 25 things to kill in the whole path. Then there’s Arah where you would have to waste time killing trash at the start which isn’t ideal either.
Then of course who would want a build that is crippled if you happen to lag spike or just plain goofaboof.
I think you’re right about Might stacks though, in an organised run you should be capped all the time so relying on what a build can produce itself would be inaccurate. So either comparing 25 might (or 0) as a constant factor.
As for Vuln I would just compare the builds based on what they can produce alone, unless of course you regularly run with an Engi or w/e where the build’s Vuln contribution is irrelevant. But in that scenario it’d be like “x build is better when trying to cap Vuln and y build is better when Vuln isn’t an issue”
Was that based off 1 auto → 100b → 1 auto → whirl? Giving an optimistic burst of 14 stacks, maintaining 7 stacks which still… Most certainly does not outweigh Empower Allies, no matter how bad of a group you’re in. The only viability I see would be to leech of another Warrior’s EA, which is not something to rely on in PuG’s (Though Empowered vs FGS? Eugh I don’t even want to go down that road.) So no stacks, no food buffs, Rangers are hardly common practice so no to their buffs.
Preferably no Vuln or Might either (beyond what the profession can create on its own.) Though you’ve got issues there with classes that can’t maintain Fury on their own when setup for optimal DPS. However I would see the precision from Banner of Discipline as a constant because you’d be nuts to not have that at every opportunity. Idk I just don’t see why you over complicate things by taking so many things into consideration when you can just compare two builds in a sandbox environment.

I’m not even defending 30/25/0/0/15, I use 30/0/0/10/30 in guild runs and tried the solo build for practicing on Lupi. Out of curiously I’m here asking whether or not the solo build is worthwhile in PuG’s considering the main difference is Empower Allies vs self Might.
I might even just get off my kitten and record on something like the Champion Giant in Diessa Plateau to see exactly how much Might Furious Greatsword gives (and maintains.) Which is why I asked Nike because if anyone already knew the answer it would be him, but two might stacks? I’m guessing Versatile Power is what’s the making the difference so minute.
This is a PuG so assume 0 stacks of might from the party. You’ve got 150 Power which is equivalent of what, like just over 4 stacks of might?
Say you’re in a team of PVT players who aren’t multiplying that Power, who have little to no base damage modifiers affecting it, who are probably ranging, who are spamming condition based attacks and aren’t even attacking consistently. Would you not be better off with the extra might to yourself who is multiplying that power, who is in melee, who is maximising his own damage? I really have no idea which is why asked in the first place :/

I’m actually very ‘pro Warhorn’ in organised runs because of the consistent fire fields to blast and you don’t have any Might stacking issues so Greatsword isn’t necessary. That and on demand swiftness is amazing for running sections. Though even in PuGs I just swap out Greatsword for Warhorn, something I only started doing when I realised just how rough other classes have it in terms of mobility, then switch back before combat. Also yes that LFG tool! I posted like an elitist scumbag to try and filter out the baddies, still had PVT carebears joining me <_< And then of course I took my no vigor, no weapon skill evades Lightning Hammer Ele into CoE and was surprised that Alpha didn’t die before I ran out of dodges xD that’ll teach me.

I think if you’re looking to try something different then maybe a new profession? There are good viable damage builds out there for pretty much everything other than Necromancer, all of them with their own unique playstyle (obviously the ultimate goal is still DPS though, because that’s all dungeons are, DPS checks.)
^ Fast Hands is the 15 point minor trait so you would still have it with 20 in Discipline.
You don’t need a dedicated condition remover as most conditions are harmless, like I’d rather just suffer through Subject Alpha’s burning than drop Banner of Strength, Discipline and FGJ which would kitten my party’s damage and make him take longer. Other professions have much lower trade offs as far as utilities go, but a Warrior just can’t afford to waste utilities on such things.
Also you shouldn’t even be using Warhorn during combat because you lose the damage boost from Dual Wielding.
20 points in Tactics won’t be viable until they push Empower Allies up to Master tier, and even that’s very much debatable.
@ Okeana, full DPS is the way to go for any profession. Building for survivability makes the encounter take longer which means more chance of botching a dodge or running out of “oh kitten” buttons which is more detrimental to party survivability than building to burn down bosses in seconds.
Is 30/0/0/10/30 really better than 30/25/0/0/15 for PuGs? I mean I know Empower Allies is great and all but let’s face it we’re talking about PuGs here, who would make as much use of +150 Power as they would a Fiery Greatsword. Would it not be better to go “screw you guys” and self stack might like a beast?

Where are dungeon posters who will immediate tear apart people who claim to have “good” DPS on their builds? I mean Banner Healing? Main Hand Sword? Is this a joke?

If you’re that worried about conditions then slap on Shake It Off or Signet of Stamina, hell you could even go Lyssa Runes and spam Signet of Rage on a reduced cooldown.
Scepter/x + Lightning Hammer in which you use Persisting Flames and stack might before and possibly between Lightning Hammers with the numerous blast finishers you get from the weapon set + Arcane Wave. Making the most of LH damage with Piercing Shards from Water.
I personally run this with 30 in Air to nab Vuln stacking and that glorious crit damage+crit chance. The other builds, especially Zelyhn’s are a lot more PuG friendly as you’re not restricted to one attunement and 0 utility, though consequently dealing less damage.
All require full Berserker gear/trinkets/weapons to be even remotely useful and using/abusing Fiery Greatsword wherever you can.
Skills that let you pseudo-AFK through a target’s core mechanics at little to no DPS loss are completely broken. I mean I’m definitely no Guardian expert but it’s not like Warrior where you can just load utilities up with multiple ‘Signets of hitting harder’ or ‘Shouts of supreme skull crushing’ or even ‘Banners of slaying hoes’
