Ranger was my first class, I thought it was quite a gentle opener as I went with the bear, which is a complete and utter tank of a pet. Everything attacked it and I shot from safety, very easy
When one enemy hits more than your shouts heal together it’s bit funny. It is nice support but you really won’t save anyone (unlike projectile reflects/blocks).
Sure, you can survive quite well in full tank-spec but what then? You aren’t dealing any damage.
I disagree. You are dealing constant damage, it definitely isn’t as high as a glass cannon, but you will always be dealing it. I’ve used fragile characters before, and you have to spend too long avoiding hits and healing yourself, and potentially stop attacking all together if you get downed, then becoming a burden to those who must stop attacking in order to revive.
I hope that “mainly using fire attunement” does not mean “I’ll stick with fire 90% of the time” because you’re locking out 60% of your class skills this way
It IS possible to stick with fire most of the time. Arcane is the only trait line that focuses on Attunement swapping, so why not let the man go full fire? I run with lightning only when I sPvP, occasionally switching to water for some added healing. There are traits directly tailored to spending most time in 1 atunnement like 20% reduced cooldowns, 10% damage in fire/water etc.. That combined with a good utility skill set is extremely powerful and makes sticking to 1 Attunement very much possible.
I toyed around with the numbers in terms of damage and going full into lightning rather than switching around did a lot more for me. Sure attunement swapping is fun and effective, but the game is still young and people need to toy around with a lot more specs. What the point in swapping into earth with a precision spec? You will deal severely less damage. Sure you got a knockdown, but then you’re stuck waiting for your main attunement to come back up.
In dungeons I’ve skipped the “swap constantly” thing and tried a water with all healing spec. It was not only easier but also much more effective. Regen on signet activation plus the constant passive regen and debuffing with vulnerability did much more for the group rather than swapping around like a monkey, while being moderate at everything.
This. I tried swapping frequently but found that the fire base attack was just too good to give up, I do occasionally change to water if myself/the melee members are starting to get low on health (surprisingly good heal without putting anything into healing power.)
Churning earth on earth attunement is CRAZY with a lot of condition damage.
I’m pretty sure that’s an offhand dagger move. Everyone recommended dagger/dagger for PvE and I honestly almost ragequitted the whole profession, on a whim I tried staff, found it to be much more effective at picking enemies off before they reach you, and generally easier to strafe around outside of melee range (except for those risen thralls that turbo behind you.)
Are you using either healing shouts/banners? It’s the best ability a warrior has IMO.
I found the warrior to be the easiest profession to grasp, and usually recommend it to newcomers hahaha
Run into ascalon story mode and fight the ghosts one by one, you get a bit of variety in terms of the enemy as well which is good. Any lvl 80 will have no problem in doing this.
Your best bet would be to go full glass cannon in both traits and gear. Dodge well, and everything will be ok. Warriors don’t have what it takes to be a great support or control, unfortunately.
You’re playing it wrong.
That’s not a very convincing argument.

an sorry but i LOLED so hard on this troll post warriors are the second best after guardians as far as support. who else offers on direct heals and 100% regen and condition removal with multiple utilitys lol.
Heals are always nice to have, but rarely worth building towards. The amount healed is just too small compared to the damage you take. Condition removal is almost completely unnecessary in the hardest dungeons, because conditions become somewhat rare.
The best kinds of support would be protection and projectile blocking/reflection. Warrior offers none of that, aside from one shield trait that only effects the warrior itself. Healing is not very helpful in Arah and high level fractals.
I figured that’s all I needed to say to such an idiotic comment. And of course you take too much damage, you run a useless glass cannon who doesn’t support himself/the group at all, you are the bane of PUGs.
Wiki is always right. But +10 is nothing, absolutely nothing.
But, it’s really +60 to all stats with all 6 runes. Add in the fact its +12% crit. dmg. as well… so, a little more than “nothing.”
A tiny stat boost is rather insignificant compared to most of the 6th item perks.
actually im curious. If someone stacked all the “all stat” items would they eventually become far better than normal?
6x divinity
1x Triforge
1x Solaria
1x Lunia
1x Ancient karka shellMaybe having only slightly more stats isnt worth it. But having many more stats, even if they are spread out more…
Mmm but I think a lot would be wasted? I mean my character never uses conditions, and rarely boons, so an increase to that is wasted, and so on. Whereas you could put a huge amount of stats into much more relevant ones to your play style? Idk I just don’t think people are that varied and would benefit more from focussing on a couple of areas.

Im still putting my Ele together (only lvl 30) but I like to plan ahead to what my final lvl 80 exotics will be. So far im going with power, tough/vit, and either condition damage or precision. I’ll be mainly using fire attunement on the staff, and spamming signets while maintaining their passive ability (namely Signet of Fire). So the question is will I get more benefit from trying to crit on each attack, or boosting condition damage when using Flame Burst and Signet of Fire? (and I suppose Burning Retreat to a lesser extent). Purely PvE and dungeons btw, dont worry about them curing conditions etc.
Thanks in advance

I wouldn’t go to overboard on the defense if you’re just going to be sitting on the sidelines, oh and healing power is a waste of a stat.
I would recommend a nice combination of berserker gear with Valkyrie/knight so you don’t fall over at the first enemy to notice you.
If you’ve got a good supportive warrior and guardian in your party, you’re going to have a good time.
Wait a whole second before jumping to the waypoint, it’s happened to me before but isn’t overly difficult to avoid.
My warrior regens nearly 500 health per tick (with banners mind you, but zero put into healing power.) It’s already pretty easy just to switch to ranged and leave the fray for a bit to heal up enough, I dunno think it would make the passive healers a bit OP’d.
Ah that makes sense, any more input would be much appreciated! Right now I am
0/0/30/30/10 for stances/healing with adrenaline/banner regen/signet cd reduc
Trying to go for a warrior build that can maximize healing during endure pain. Not sure if healing over time is better than lump sum healing with mending/the adrenaline-based heal skills.
I use gs/rifle
Healing utility is healing signet
Utilities are Shake It Off, Endure Pain, Banner of Tactics
Elite is Rage signet
If you want lump healing then healing shouts is a much better option, as they require no time to use, so you can get three out in under a second for a substantial heal. Would also be better to go with a different healing utility also.
You will die a lot running a glass cannon MELEE class in dungeons, it’s fine to sit on the edge of battle not worrying about getting hit. But most dungeon enemies will down a glass cannon in 2-3 hits.
A good way to support a group is to utilise healing shouts or regen banners at the end of the vitality tree. Then running a couple of whichever you’ve gone with for skills.
I personally would recommend that you go with knights so you don’t fall over when a boss looks at you, but that’s just me.
Oh and for the love of god, warriors are not thieves, just… No.

How on earth is warrior hard to play? to be honest I have difficulty getting into any other profession (seriously I rage quitted my Elementalist for two weeks I was so hopeless at it.) any profession that can survive a hit has it easy, but fiddle farting around avoiding every single attack is painful.
1. Yes
2. Irrelevant
3. Don’t even know what you’re asking
4. Warrior begs you to go and hit things really hard, guardian is all like “c’mon man we should really help these guys out” however you can build it anyway you want. Probably the most noticeable difference is boons. Warriors at most can offer might to themselves and allies, guardians the whole package.
5. People don’t judge the profession, they judge whether he’s a useless glass cannon loaded to the teeth with signets or not.
Every time I see a purely ranged warrior I think….. “Why? Just…. Why?”
If you’re game you can test your luck at bulk buying unidentified dyes on the TP. I found midnight ice dye (I can’t really tell the difference between that and abyss) and celestial white (whiter than plain white) from those, granted I found those not bought over TP.
Ascalon stuff glows blue in the dark, so it would change accordingly to the sylvari’s blue plant glowy thing. Then change back to normal when the character is no longer glowing. There’s my two cents worth
Wiki is always right. But +10 is nothing, absolutely nothing.
Why do people always google builds and try to copy them to the letter? Just play the character, find which weapons you like, experiment with skills, and do your traits from there. It’s much easier to choose which path you want to go down after that.
Pity, seems a bit like false advertising to me. Never seen it happen in game.
Combo finisher in a combo field ???
I know such a disgrace, you should write them a strongly worded letter to let them know how much this has inconvenienced you. Perhaps you could sue them on them on the grounds that you have not yet grasped the basics, thus it is false advertising to show you a move that you don’t know how to do.
Use jeweller as a craft. Very easy to find all the materials and discovery process is very simple.
Ranger is a lot more straightforward, everything attacks your pet and you sit on the sidelines shooting wildly. Engineer needs a little bit more strategy as turrets aren’t really made for taking hits.
^Sigh yet another response that fails to understand the problem….I don’t know if you guys are bad at reading comphrehension or what.
Like I said, if I don’t mash the button repeatedly, then some times the ability doesn’t activate. I don’t have time in a fast paced fight to press it once, and wonder whether it worked or not.
If you want to cancel the block, then just hit ur number 1 ability (auto attack) or any other ability you wish to use and it will break the block anyway. As for stomping, just press F and you will auto-matically cancel the block and proceed to stomping.
Please read the comments before being condescending to those trying to help you. As it has already been said many a time, don’t mash the button. If the simple skill of pushing a button once at the right time, is too difficult for you, then you truly are a lost cause. Warrior is the simplest of all classes to play, enough said.
Ascalonian weapons at night time = amazing.
The longbow is my personal favourite for looks, leaves a glowy blue trail out behind you.
Banners for me. As warriors we stay in melee range most of the time (at least we should be.) I find that shouts often miss the ranged people sitting up to 1200 away, noticing a lack of might addition to half the party when using For Great Justice. A strategically placed banner can cover the area much better, even if people fall out of range the regen should have built up enough to last until they enter it again.
It only starts bugging if you activate it midway through another skill or dodging (I find that most annoying with dropping banners, you click the destination and everything expecting it to drop once you’re out of the roll, but nope nothing, one of my pet peeves anyway)
So with power/toughness/vitality armor what accessories and weapon stats should i be going for as a tank/support build? should i throw all cleric accessories? i dont want to kitten my dmg to much for when i find myself running round soloing without having to respec my build
thx
I have maintained the power/vit/tough specs across all items. I find healing power isn’t worth crippling your damage or defense. Also, on challenges that require destroying objects, just bust out the greatsword and you’ve become the biggest damage contributer as objects aren’t affected by conditions or crits, examples being graveling burrows in AC.
That’s odd, I find its whoever attacks them first will hold all the attention. But even then I find if they start going for someone else, you just get in their face mashing control skills and they’ll be back on you instantly.
The idea is to knock them over first, or stun or whatever. Also that’s the only point in having different weapon skills, the hammer is a big slow weapon, if you’re looking for something that can keep up with swift enemies then hammer is clearly not the best choice.
I too have this problem. I find it comes down to the fact that elementalists lack a reliable summonable companion. The other light classes, necro and Mesmer are always summoning multiple allies to take the hits for you. Whereas ele only has the lesser elemental which just doesnt compare and has a huge respawn timer. Step it up to medium armours and you’ve got ranger who’s pet is simply amazing, my bear rarely died and kept me out of harms way 99% of the time.
I think I’ll stick to heavy classes as it is, who needs minions when you can actually take a hit and deal out damage that is pretty well on par with the other classes.
you may be correct there dolan, ive gone full power+toughness+healing power spec, with banners, currently they are doing 330 aoe every sec, and the healing banner gives a 1k AOE every 10 sec, but because of this my damage output is rubbish, but longbow is a good weapon to have secondary, as the might bonuses from its combo field are ridiculous!
Only 330 with heaps of healing power!? No offence but what a waste of a stat, I thought for sure a solid commitment to healing power should double/triple it’s effectiveness as it does when you commit to any other stat.
Awesome thx for the advice definatly a big help and much appreciated!!!
Am leaning more towards the sword as my main hand, is it worth it to use without + condition dmg or would it be viable to swap out atleast some jewelry for somethin with + condition dmg on it?
Also is banner regen better than shout healing? i did manage to read somewhere for shout healing u need healing power for it to be effective but banners dont is this true?
Again appreciate the advice
Healing power contributes to the effectiveness if both healing abilities. I personally prefer banners as you don’t really have to worry about it, just plonk it down and even if you leave it’s range you’ve got around 30 seconds worth of regen left. Also I think it heals around 200-250 health per second with no healing power, don’t hold me to that though.
how do i get my warrior to do 26k cause i heard that it is possible and i want to know how
Full berserker gear (power/precision/crit damage) with a great sword, do hundred blades with or without frenzy activated. Use “For great justice” and " signet of rage" to crank up the power a bit too.
You are allowed two signets, two, any more and you’re cut from the team.
@Dolan
Sorry, but grinding the same dungeon over and over for 1400 tokens for a set of exotic armout is not fun for many players. Besides, you need good kit before even attempting to do such a thing. The only stat variation dungeon armour offers that you cannot get from crafting is power/toughness/vitality, and you can get this stat from the temple karma vendors in Orr or from WvW tokens.I have 2 crafts at 400, and it is by far the easiest thing to do in the game! Last evening I crafted myself a full set of exotic armour (with 2 different insignias), 2 exotic and 3 rare weapons. The most difficult thing was placing buy bids on the TP for some of the mats I was short on. There are plenty of crafting guides out there, if you find it such a challenge…
I suppose if you enjoy exploring, crafting wouldn’t be tooooo bad. Most of the higher level areas only have a bee line to the dungeon explored, it bores the absolute kitten out of me.
Crafting is and always will be a complete and utter chore. It is legitimately cheaper to buy armour as you’re going along, and just get the dungeon armour when you hit 80.
Warrior with greatsword. Just err, don’t go near any events… Or dungeons… Or skill points…
Im kinda confused by this statement.
Ive a warrior and gotta say with full exo (hell even rares and greens aint so bad) I kill a mob with one hundred blades. If ya go full glass cannon Warrior REALLY tears things to pieces. I solo events with mine (not champions) so while they can do alot of damage they aint as squishy as ya would think.
That really depends on the event… Any lvl 80 wearing exotics should be able to solo lower levelled area events, the whole being downgraded to the area just doesn’t happen. Whilst I myself have yet to play as a GC I’ve seen it far too many times in dungeons, just seeing that health bar plummet into nothing from attacks that seem to ping off my armour. You can only dodge so much, in harder battles you really just need to be able to take a hit, I’m not saying go tank or anything, but at least a substantial contribution into vit or tough would suffice.

I wear full power/vit/tough exotic weapons and armour, with rare jewellery also giving power/vit/tough. Using runes of the dolyak for some added health regeneration. Jewellery has crest of the soldier attached. Weapons have sigil of energy and sigil of regeneration, at least I think it’s energy, the one that fills your endurance on a kill.
With a banner down the passive health regeneration goes through the roof, even if you start losing too much health, just switch to ranged and fall back, in a matter of seconds you’ll have enough health regained to jump back into the fray.
I love my build and can’t really get into any other play styles as I despise squishyness. As far as I’m concerned, if you can out endure your enemy, you will always win.
That’s not the only way to do the heart, just jump from table to table mashing “f”.
Warrior with greatsword. Just err, don’t go near any events… Or dungeons… Or skill points…
Honestly don’t even waste your time with crafting exotics, it’ll cost you far too much money when you can just do dungeon runs, which are actually fun, to get your exotic stuff. That and you’ve got a lot more choice in stats from the dungeon rewards, where as I find the craftable stuff to be rather limited, and ungodly difficult to do. I started with AC and just kept running it because it was fun, hoarding those tears without even knowing what they were for, when I finally bothered finding out I was halfway through my exotic armour set…
You get rare Lvl 80 jewellery from a karma vendor in WvW. He’s with an armoursmith and weaponsmith, stuff is called Invader’s ring/necklace/etc. As for back item, I went with the defender guild backpack (just join a guild that has unlocked guild armourer) unfortunately it’s 5 gold, pretty hefty there. Oh and those karma items are around 20-30 thousand each. All of which is power/vit/tough.
However there are also exotic versions which are of course better, but cost medals of honour, which are WvW rewards for doing…. Stuff.
Also I’m pretty sure you can’t even make power/vit/tough items through crafting…
Ah. I mustn’t play with those sorts of guardians. They must be favouring DPS or something along those lines as most hits that would wipe half their health bar would barely dent mine, quickly regenning to full.
I havnt tested rune of the dolyak but I think 80 sounds about right as said above. Doesn’t sound like much but when you’re in a long drawn battle it adds up pretty quickly.
I don’t even revive glass cannons, it isnt worth my time. Even “pitiful damage” will contribute more than a constantly downed ally every time he gets nicked by an AoE. You can always pick them cause they’re loaded with signets…. And dead a lot.
You need to find a middle value with your armour, skills and weapon choice. Basically you didn’t make a warrior to sit on the edge of battle shooting wildly, you made a warrior to charge into the thick of battle swinging that great sword around and wait for it… Not dying.
What’s with all the hate on warriors? I love my tank, i use it to solo Kholer. (Dont actually know if that’s an achievement or not, but I tried it the other day and was just like…. “Alrighty then”). I find a warrior’s best healing is its passive regen, if you’re looking to click something and see your health bar rapidly fill, you’re going to have a bad time.
