Skye Eterna ~ Mesmer | Arya Slade ~ Charrdian | Kiera Thine ~ Ranger
Oceanic ~ [LOD] [Noob]
I personally support the change, it encourages people to revive each other. Granted I have yet to run Arah and meet this notorious Lupi. But it encourages a level of team play that was never necessary before when WP rushing. This way, it isn’t one person spending a fortune on repairs, it’s everyone unless they work as a TEAM. As I said before I’ve never faced Lupi but most one shots from bosses have a bit of a cooldown or backing off period, if everyone swarms a downed player he’ll be up in about 2 seconds… (I’m really hoping some Arah veteran can back me up here and Lupi isn’t just absolutely impossible to revive a downed teammate, also Ash Legion Spy kits….)
I’m still kinda new to the dungeon, but i was wondering if there was a way for a warrior to break out of an Alpha crystal? Classes with teleport just pop out but it seems to be the thing that kills me when I’m the only one left alive.
Also, does this “stacking” trick actually work? I had an elitist guy insult the entire group every time it failed. From what I’ve gathered, only one of the AoE’s actually hurt, and that’s when the big chunk of ice blasts you, but it only seems to go for one person, so effectively everyone standing on the same place = everyone gets hit?
Last question about the destroyer on path 3. Is there an easier way to do it than 3 people being mostly excluded from the fight, and having two people teeter on the edge of the platform when the shield comes on? It just seems he has too much health to be a 2 man job…
Sorry if I’m missing some blatantly obvious solution as I only really came up with these assumptions on the fly.
Thanks in advance.
You can never have too many warriors/guards in a group. Whilst a variation is good you’re guaranteed an easy run with all heavies.
From what I’ve read don’t even try going to clubs. I can assure you the girls you’re looking for shall not be there. A good way to meet people is in the workplace, you’re forced to be with a group of people and for the working relationship to work, people have to get along, it’s a good way to build up your social skills too.
Sounds like elementalist and engineer would be your choice of profession. Both of them have multiple sets of skills to switch to in mid-combat, as long as you can manage your skills wisely, you will not have any skill downtime, however, they’re the hardest professions to learn, so if you think you can handle a challenge, be sure to try them.
This, there shouldn’t be moment when you’re not activating skills or switching attunements in the case of Elementalist. And I’ve heard engineer can be compared to playing the piano…
No. Make your own.
However, you won’t be a able to take a hit for quite a long time, so using staff and kiting around everything is a pretty good way to go for general PvE as you’re levelling.
The most common choice is going dagger/dagger and putting 30 in Arcane trait line for constant switching through attunements which constantly gives boons. But the play styles available for the jack of all trades Elementalist are seemingly limitless, experiment around, find strategies you like, and for the love of god don’t just mindlessly follow someone else’s build.
You’re way too worked up over using someone else’s build…
There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a build crafted by a well-versed theorycrafter, and in fact all 6 of my 80’s use multiple crafted builds by well-respected build crafters.
Originality is great, but I want a build that os optimal. My own “personal” touch doesn’t make a build optimal.
Eh, each to their own. I find it much more interesting to build my own, even if I think my build is good, I will find things wrong with it on the journey to 80. Granted if I see someone using a good strategy, I will try to incorporate it into my own. But the idea of after hitting that Create Character button and jumping on google to just mindlessly follow a guide just seems… Stupid. Like, when you start playing a new game do you just have the guide sitting there next to you? Making you sure you do everything 100% “optimal”? Where is the fun in that? I would rather reach the end on my own, there is satisfaction in mastering a character you built yourself.
You misunderstood. I wasn’t planning on using anybody else’s build, believe me. I’m all about originality. I just wanted to make sure that I didn’t make any ridiculously stupid decisions. I wanted advice, not some model that I could clone.
My mistake, too many people on here are 5 minutes into the game looking to copy someone else, which takes all fun out of it IMO.
But anyway just using staff and focussing on damage, investing in the fire attunement is a good way to go for general PvE, as nothing is overly challenging there. Going into dungeons is where you need to start taking the defensive route (unless you stick with staff, just go full damage stats if that’s the case, you won’t take hits on the sidelines anyway, however investing one stat to healing power to help your team is good way to go with staff as well.) Cantrips are great “oh kitten” buttons if you’re rolling around in melee range, and when traited in the water tree they can provide good healing. I’m not really giving you a solid “do this” but these are a few of the options out there.
Everyone transmutes it, few people actually use PVT. The look you’re saving when transmuting keeps the name and cool shiny look, whilst getting the stats of the exotic gear you’re mashing it with. Practice on some low level gear just to see the mechanic, but it’s very simple! :]
P.S. you do lose the purple name though, which only really matters if you’ve got it for pure bragging rights to link to other people.

2. gw2lfg.com is a life-saver… find groups there… you can never guarantee that people will be nice there but generally:
a. avoid posts wanting a speed run at first
b. avoid people asking for specific professions
c. avoid people asking to ping gear
d. sometimes people will put something like “all professions welcome”… really look for those if you can, those are in my experience the nicer people out there
1000x this. People who request lvl 80 only or certain professions are BAD, legitimately terrible players. But worst of all, they think they’re pro, and carry on as much. I’ve tagged along with a few groups like this (one in particular demanding a “tanky warrior lvl 80 with full exotics only.”) So after spending most of my time reviving these useless glass cannons who were downed every time Kholer did his spin (I held aggro the rest of the time) it came up to Colossus Rumblus who knocked all four of them down on his first scream, clearly using Warbanner this time after the Kholer incident. It fell to pieces when one of them managed to pull not one, but two nearby breeders. They got wiped as I hid (a decision I would gladly make again.)
But really, their dreadful performance wasn’t what bothered me, it was their attitude throughout the entire run that was nauseating. Here I thought elitists were actually meant to be good….
Never ever again, and the other times weren’t too great either. People who demand a strong team are only trying to make up for the skill they lack themselves.
I have yet to swap to rune of the soldier, curing conditions would be much more effective. Before I knew you needed the rune on your water breather I used to only have 5/6 during that underwater fractal and honestly, I couldn’t even tell the difference.
hehe, I’m also going for kudzu! short/long bow ranger, so it was that or dreamer, and dreamer… just… no. didn’t know about the sound effects. are they worse than the slingshot? I stopped using my own slingshot because of the sound effects :P
I made a plan for the order I’ll make it:
Order of things to do:
0) Gift of Exploration (done)1) Gift of Battle (badges of honor)
Gift of Thorns (TA tokens)2) Bloodstone Shard (SP)
3) Mystic Clover (coin, ecto, obsidian)
4) Gift of Mastery (Bloodstone, obsidian, gift of exploration, gift of battle)
5) Gift of Wood (T6 basic mats)
Gift of Nature (T6 basic mats, gift of thorns)
Gift of Kudzu (Gift of wood, gift of nature, ice runestones, sigil of conjuration)6) Gift of Magic (T6 fine mats)
Gift of Might (T6 fine mats)
Gift of Fortune (ecto, clover, gift of magic, gift of might)
7) Leaf of Kudzu (TP if I haven’t happened to have it drop by now)The point was to get all of the time-only things done first, giving myself the most time to collect the findable ingredients before I had to buy the rest of them. really, 5, 6 and 7 all happen simultaneously.
WHY WOULD YOU NOT GET THE DREAMER!? IT SHOOTS UNICORNS MAN, UNICORNS!!!1!1!
well i am set to maximum height on my mesmer human and i seem to be the same height as female norns but ive hade some players ask me if im human or norn do to my hight.
but ya im max hight for humans and i have not seen another mesmer thats a human thats taller than me.
I swear the tallest human was still shorter than the shortest norn :/
I hate to be the one to say it but warrior/guardian are the easy tier professions, and really shouldn’t be giving you any trouble. Other professions (namely Elementalist) are usually out of the fight after 3 maybe 4 hits…. Unless you go crazy with the defense.
Do people only play for 10 minutes per day in which they need to grind out the daily? Really doing any sort of exploring/dungeon/anything will provide you with more than enough opportunities to finish the daily dodger… DOES NOT UNDERSTAND.
I leave dungeon groups if someone has that weapon, it makes the single most annoying noise, and I refuse to mute SFX simply because of it. (That and most legendary wielders are pompous kitten that think their glorified farming skills should command respect. On that note… I’m going for The Flameseeker Prophecies
I hope you will still group with me once I get it. I can tell you I am not a pompous kitten. I am a friendly plant. ^.^
That was just a joke haha. It looks pretty cool, but the sound does drive me mental, like whenever a staff necro gets close to you, their #1 skill is so loud compared to anyone else.
What on earth is so hard about dodging? I don’t understand. That is by far the easiest and I finish that one just through simple gameplay…. Now crafting 10 things/gathering and veteran slayer is something I have to go out of my way for (mainly veteran slayer, it’s 15 minutes of “find the veteran”)
Believe me, if it was easy to get, you wouldn’t want it. It’s only because it’ll take you 4 months of saving to afford that you’ll find it awesome to make your legendary.
I disagree. It does not matter how easy/hard it is to obtain. I am legendary hunting because the skin is shiny. If it looked the same (even without the particle effects) and was a starting weapon, I’d still use it.
Not everyone who hunts a legendary is looking for that exclusiveness. Some of us just like the skin.
I’m working towards Kudzu, myself.

You snooze you lose, a fast farm is a good farm.
Elementalist and Necro definitely do too. Warrior definitely doesn’t, and that’s all I know of.
Warrior has a trait that gives 10% speed while wielding melee weapons. Not a signet but it is passive.
10% isn’t even worth wasting trait points on, you can barely notice the difference. However Signet of Rage + #3 with a banner for a constant 33% increase, not passive but hey you’re flying around. Also yes ranger is 25% too with the signet I’m pretty sure (though it only says 10% like the Elementalist one, unless they patched that)
Elementalist and Necro definitely do too. Warrior definitely doesn’t, and that’s all I know of.
Thanks for the help! Didn’t get The Chosen but did score around 16g from 6 failed attempts, so I’ll consider that a win for now :]
Probably a question asked a lot, but hey after a quick look through I didn’t see it definitively stated. I’m simply overflowing with Ascalonian Tears and wondered if I could simply purchase four of the same shield (going for The Chosen for The Flameseeker’s Prophecy) and throw them in? Or do they need to be mixed/different stat-wise?
Warrior can easily maintain constant swiftness but that’s about it. Also correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it much simpler to just sit in air attunement and use windborn speed (staff) and the healing glyph? I can’t remember if they made it constant or not.
Aye Elementalist, just be sure to turn off auto lock, nothing worse than riding the lightning into a random mob and getting combat crippled. Though thief is much better for the higher level areas where there’s a champion sitting on the skill point (invisibility for the win.) They can sustain 25% movement speed increase, not quite 33% but make up for it with 50% faster when invisible plus a few teleporting skills.
A note to the poorly informed in this thread …
1- Guardians are not meant to be ‘tanks’ ..
2- If a player builds a ‘tank’ guardian, that player is gimping the toon and does not know how to play the class.
3- The reason there so many guardian is cos there are so many crappy warriors who need the support a guardian provides, or they are licking dust off the dungeon floor …
Because anyone who does not build their guardian the exact same as yours is clearly a noob, I mean anything other than full zerkers just isn’t an option…
And no, there are so many guardians because they are the easiest profession to excel at, they are a very forgiving class.
Would you need to start with steal? I just thought that attacking while stealthed, even stealing, breaks the stealth and pings you with 3 seconds of no fun allowed?
Fairly new to thief, but I’m just curious as to whether or not you lose invisibility time when activating one whilst already invisible? E.g using Cloak and Dagger, Shadow Refuge, Blinding Powder, as well as the healing skill one after the other. Is there some form of cap or invisibility time reduction when doing this? Or does it generously add all 3 second boosts (10 in the case of SR) together? (As it should do.)
You shouldn’t need to block constantly, for starters that would be drastically overpowered. You just need to time the block with when they attack, and while its on cooldown use dodging or other skills to mitigate damage.
Eh… Any. Personally I find there are way too many guardians, every man and his dog has a kitten guardian. I find warrior to be the best, did a run with 5 warriors, it was hands down the easiest and fastest dungeon run I’ve ever done.
Just get more skill points, it isn’t hard to do. Besides most people get every skill in the end anyway…
Aye AC is the way to go, but fighting all the bosses is advisable (Kholer, Cave Troll – if you can find the sneaky bugger.) Omnomberry Bars are also a good investment, I believe I found two rares and an exotic in one run. I also use it to level up weaker characters because exploring is like scraping a cheese-grater against my forehead. I’ve plucked a rare from a graveling breeder before so don’t count out random mobs either.
I just wish Vengeance charged up a lot faster. It is alright in dungeons, but in solo PvE and any form of PvP you are dead before you can get a chance to use it.
You knock them down with 2, then vengeance up. Unless of course you’re getting piled on then you’re pretty much doomed anyway.
Unless they’ve patched it ‘Sweet Revenge’ is NOT 100%.
Never got into warhorn myself, but longbow is a definite choice if you’re utilising banners. The F1 ability then #3 gives might to you and teammates. Drop one or two banners for more, pick it up and slam it into the ground, throw in For Great Justice and give yourself Signet of Rage (you could probably go Warbanner as another blast finisher but I find the cooldown is ungodly long for such a short lasting banner.) I’m not sure on the exact number of stacks each action gives, but nearby allies usually sit on 15 stacks and I teeter from 20-25.
Oh my god people, soon it’ll be considered cheating to have “bait” during Detha’s chain challenge. Clearly you’re exploiting the fact that gravelings (for the most part) go for the nearest target and are using this “glitch” to keep them on the traps… If the game allows it, then it is strategy, if you are using a foreign program to interfere with your actions within the game, THEN IT IS CALLED CHEATING.
This thread is full of kitten people who thought they could just plow through any dungeon on their first go, thinking they were the best thing to ever happen to the world. Suprise suprise they died, a lot, we all did. But y’know what? You get better at it, you learn, and before long, you can navigate your way through a path with ease.
Pro Tip: DUNGEONS ARE MEANT TO BE HARD. Hard meaning difficult, difficult meaning challenging, but very much do able if you have the patience and skill required.
And for god’s sake people, if you want dedicated “Healer/Tank” then honestly, just go back to your children’s game, this not WOW, and I adore that fact.
Do not blame the Devs for building a part of the game that revolves around teamwork, blame the individual people who are “leaving you defeated on the ground while they fight the boss”.
/end rant
For the love of god do not patch Colossus Rumblus. Ascalon is by far the crusiest of all dungeons, keeping that boss there to remind people dungeons are meant to be hard is a good thing. Theres no cheat way, no skip, you’ve gotta knuckle down and fight him head on, no amount of team carrying will save you if you dont know what you’re doing. And with this no WP porting during combat? Yes I think I’m going to enjoy path 3 :]
We are not guardians, stop pretending we are. The only reason you would want to pick up a banner is to slam it into the ground for some group might, or for the swiftness. Warrior is an easy class to learn, let’s keep it that way. Adding a bajillion different effects to an item that would no one in their right mind would consider a legitimate weapon, is a complete waste of time. Think about it, it’s a piece of fabric, on a stick. It doesn’t shoot fireballs, nada. I like to think that it very much conforms to the moral rallying persona of the warrior the way it is.
Warrior has a glorified 1 skill, a weapon that deals consistent damage through 1 mashing is pretty much what you’re looking for, most people go for the greatsword, and fall back on longbow/rifle to put some distance between them when things turn bad. Not to say that the other skills don’t have their uses, but if you’re looking to use all cooldown skills then switch, I’d say a more fast pace profession like Elementalist is more to your suiting. Just my opinion as I’m sure many would disagree with me.
The Elementalist has a steep learning curve but a master can outplay any other profession. To be honest I only started appreciating it after I hit 80 and clothed it in exotics, it gave me the durability I needed to get good at different dual dagger techniques. You can’t learn to play if you’re out the game in one hit. On the other hand if you go with staff, you’re rarely taking hits and can offer a wide array of support through boons and direct healing.
Engie is rubbish, nuff said. I’d recommend thief, every dungeon group loves a thief to make them all invisible to run past unnecessary mobs. And actually, in my earlier days a thief would often be my saving grace as they cast invisibility then revive you.
As a staff ele, eruption is your primary combo finisher, but because of its slow detonation time you cast it first then switch attunement a to use any of your four combo fields, all offering different effects.
However, it activates upon getting the first stack. If something gives you say 5 stacks of vulnerability, the trait will activate upon getting the first stack, removing only one, but ideally the shout condition removal will take care of the rest, still annoying though.
Yea go with the bear, that thing is a beast, and just circle around your enemy.
Well specifically for Old Tom battle, a method we figured out was everyone stands in a line behind my warrior, putting myself between him and my team (including the person at the fan.) Everyone invested in their AoE healing to help keep me alive during the poison spinning attack, worked like a charm
The gladiator rare armour you get from crafting looks more like some kinky chain fetish lingerie, but I don’t know about similar stuff to that
Dolan main point of what were saying is a properly played glass war who is using omnomberry pies can effectively survive just as or almost as well as a brick tank war while pumping out the dmg to end the mobs as a cleaving hundred blades or axe spin can easily heal the warrior for several thousand an attack to make up for the more damage they take due to their low toughness values
Don’t get me wrong, there are people who have mastered the glass, but too many just… Haven’t… Y’know those 5 signet warriors? Yeeeeeeaaaaaaa
Full glass thief trolling around on WvW. You can put a whole raiding party on edge, it’s amazing that one player can just shatter a group like that.
I disagree with all of the above. Team play is where it’s at, I find solo play so mind numbing that I stopped exploring after my first character, the rest having a beeline explored to the dungeons. I’d say the real problem lies in the fact that you haven’t met any half decent people yet. My guild had a few girls on teamspeak at one point, and there was no problem. Don’t miss out on the best part of the game because of a handful of people. Once you find an active, friendly guild you will enjoy it so much more.
