Thief just needs a more viable bunker build. Thieves should be rewarded for not going into stealth, as it stands there is no logical reason to NOT pop into stealth every 3 seconds, the benefit of doing so is just too great. We are essentially forced into this or a similar playstyle due to the lack of condition removal and self healing. Stealth is supposed to make up for these, but it shouldn’t, it shouldn’t be one or the other. For instance the basis of the Elementalist is receiving boons from attunement swapping, an entire trait line dedicated to improving the swap, now it’s the most common build because other playstyles just aren’t as effective. The same answer solves both these problems, make playing OTHER builds more viable.
Make it so you having something to gain by staying visible. I’m thinking something like increased passive healing or toughness, or just something to give staying visible an advantage. Obviously whatever it is goes on a long CD when using stealth to avoid abusing the best of both mechanics. As stealth is mostly useless in dungeons, such a buff could really help out thieves in PvE.

Stealth should only reach its final stage at the result of a grandmaster trait. Perhaps have stealth give a +50% damage taken passive effect until the final trait negates/lessens this effect and adds a little something nice, like adding the extra second of stealth. Okay kind of extreme but you get my point, make it nowhere near as effective until the last trait.

Regarding condition damage, I’d argue that poison was never meant to be a damage dealer, rather meant to absolutely cripple your foe’s healing ability. Trying to heal when slapped with a lengthy poison and no condition removers left is just the worst situation you could be in.

Now this next comment is more than likely going to cop a lot of flak, but… Get rid of the initiative system. Give it the same CD on each skill as every other profession has to deal with, the skills themselves are only half of how thieves burst too well, it’s the ability to chain all of their hard hitting attacks one after the other. If a warrior could set off multiple Hundred Blades or Whirlwind Attack in a matter of seconds then the world would be crying for nerf, I fail to see how the situations are different.
I can see what Anet tried to do, but I’m just not a fan, replace it with some other unique ability that can add more depth to the thief.
For instance add F2-F4 skills that all share a CD with steal, providing more variety to the class. I’m just throwing ideas around but throw in a 3x condition remover and stunbreaker, a haste skill, and perhaps a knockdown? All with shared CD to avoid abusing it, and allow improvements through trait lines, e.g shorter CD, the option to use 2 skills before the CD is activated for a grandmaster trait.

The tl;dr is the reason thieves are strong in PvP and bad in PvE is the lack of build variety. In most situations a build good for PvE won’t be as effective in PvP. Give thieves the option to be GOOD in PvE, and tone down their finesse at PvP (through the changes mentioned above) and the class will stop receiving all the hate.

In regards to your second post, improvements made to climbing and jumping will only serve to open the doors for exploiting and bugging, something which Anet is really trying to keep a lid on. Such changes would be taken advantage of far too easily.
DISARM ENEMY sounds good in theory, but coupled with the thieves current state of burst damage it would leave people too helpless.
DISARM TRAP doesn’t sound too bad, though very enemy/dungeon specific and probably wouldn’t be widely utilised.
The other ideas would be a huge overhaul of the game to add, far beyond just messing around with a few thief traits. Though I wouldn’t mind seeing them in the the future, there are a lot more big fixes to happen before adding more content.

Well iam only having 2 lvl 80 chars and iam right now leveling my guardian which is lvl 35 right now and i for myself can say: needed a lotta more skill to survive/level with the thief than with my necro or guard. Especially the guardian is such a noobish char, “hm story quest is lvl 25, iam lvl 19… nor a problem”. With a thief i had problem surviving a story quest which IS on my level and not 6 levels ahead.

We have limited armor, life and buffs to do something against it. I mean the assasin in GW 1 had the same problem (back in the Factions days), but at least i had a ton of dmg to compansate my lack of survivability!

Our AOE Dmg sucks completly compared to all other classes, we dont have the survivablility of other classes and yet we get nerfed all time.

I dont care about PVP/WvW Thiefs because in WvW iam mostly scouting and i dont play PVP. Nerf something that AFFECTS the PV kitten ue and leave our PVE Builds!

Thief does indeed need a buff for dungeons, regular PvE is easy regardless of what profession you play. But thieves need some love for dungeons, my 80 thief collects dust as my warrior gets all the dungeon action and my Ele gets WvW/PvP. I didn’t like my thief going out there as I don’t like doing what everyone else is doing :P which is unfortunate as Ele is becoming more and more popular

Also, to the 12 yo guy stating that he doesnt use stealth…. You dont play thief and maybe the fact that its to hard to play for you cuz you cant rlly facetank ANY other class is why you dont play it. This reminds me of Mute’s vids where he was making fun of all the pokemon not using stealth as rogues. I wonder how hard you would have QQed in WoW avout a rogue that was ALWAYS in stealth and the fact that you are SO BAD that you cant aoe and skill-shot a thief in this joke of a game.

Oh I will most enjoy when your classes get nerfed into the ground and all this will be brought onto yourselves by your BS qqing.

Good riddance. Nerf Thieves into the ground so they no longer become the “go to” option for any sort of PvP. Then, after everyone has given up and goes off to learn a real class, slowly bring them back. Don’t even mention it in patch updates, just bring them back to their former glory and let the worthy players take notice.
An example of such a nerf could be +50% damage taken while stealthed.
People aren’t mad at individual thieves, a solo 1v1 with a thief usually ends in victory/ you run away with your tail between your legs, my point being the class IS NOT OP. People are mad at the HOARD of thieves, it’s a profession that works too well when you get heaps of them together. A multiple thief burst will kill anyone straight up, as well as the combined stealth capabilities. Thief works great, and is well balanced… When there’s one… But there is never just ONE.

Now about your shot at Elementalists, I advise that you take your own advice and actually play the class. Burst healing is all we got, sorry we don’t just keel over after you CnD + Mug + Backstab + Heartseeker Spam.
Let alone the irony of stating that another profession should dare be able to escape, yet play one that can ALWAYS retreat. Yes, yes invisibility is not invincibility but to argue that stealth isn’t the best escape tool in the game is foolish.

I personally think thief needs a buff in the dungeon department. Because really, other than Shadow Refuge it brings nothing extra to the party that a warrior can’t do better.

You don’t know what my sides are going through right now, that build is so mediocre and requires no skill… I actually like builds that stay out of stealth so the person I’m fighting can actually have a fighting chance, because stuff like that actually helps me have fun in the game. And I use heartseeker as a damage(not spam, i don’t get my damage from it mostly)+escape tool (because Death Blossom and Dancing Dagger are overlooked by most thieves imo.)

But about your comment about nerfing us to the ground.

Are you serious? You want an entire profession to just go extinct, just like that, and then come back when nobody is looking? Who would be your “worthy players”?

And I don’t even travel with a group, I personally think they weigh me down if I need to do anything quickly and unseen. If it was a group of thieves, I just kinda leave and go around and pick my own fights when I know I can win.

Yes, because the comment was directly aimed at you, because you yourself do not follow with the masses, the entire comment is void. You have no idea how hard this is not to stoop down to your level of argumentative ignorance.

Would you however agree, that as a whole? (Not just the forum players) that thieves do the exact method at stated above? Congratulations on thinking outside the box, but really, you’re in the minority with your thief gameplay.

Also the idea that you run around picking fights that you know you can win is kind of disturbing. Sounds like you’ve never given yourself a challenge, and only join in when the target is distracted and most likely outnumbered, which is nearly the only thing I see thieves do. Oh they know you’re there? Better run away and let a REAL class fight the good fight till your bursts are ready to go again.

The thief supporters suffer from more tunnel vision than the thief haters. I should have mentioned that I have a level 80 thief that I quickly got bored of as it was the only profession to see in WvW. And thief v thief fights are sooo boring.
It is easy to take down a singular thief because most rely on the fact that you’re distracted and make for an easy backstab, well after their little burst and you’re still standing, they’re all out of initiative and probably running GC. Boom, free badges. Now don’t get me wrong, some actually know what weapon swap is and can prove a little more challenging. But overall thieves just don’t have the self healing and condition removal for a solid 1v1 and usually have to make their escape if their opponent knows how to keep them locked down/avoid their bursts. Thieves are laughably easy from a warriors point of view, the number of times Shield Block + Bolas + Frenzy + Rush + Hundred Blades has ended a thief is too kitten high. Point being, the same point as before, thieves aren’t OP, there’s just too kitten many, all using the same tactic, which will spell instant death for most people against 2 or more. Nerf the class, nerf the numbers, bring it back. However I’m guessing most thieves will want the next easiest option, and that would be running around in groups of mesmers… Who are in genuine need of an actual “OP” nerf.
As far as making them more useful in PvE, I really don’t know, buff venom sharing, buff it something fierce, in its current state it’s pretty well useless. A thief in the party will usually end up in just being carried, an apology to the good thieves out there but I’ve developed such an unfair bias against thieves in dungeon groups.

No armour repair costs.

This post is little more than showing the utmost appreciation for the recent “no armour repair cost” when outnumbered. I was on the verge of forever leaving WvW as a result of always lagging out and having to pay the price. As a roamer, I can now jump from Borderlands to find an outnumbered one, and set loose. No need to runaway from battles, if anything I dont even mind giving out badges at no personal loss in “I can take this group” situations. Am I dying a lot more? Yes, I don’t even care. Finding out I can actually force a group of 3 to run away when I would usually just assume thieves and mesmers and run off? Amazing.

I’m sure many people have a problem with this (for whatever reason) but just know that this was DEFINITELY a good move. But like all good things I wouldn’t be surprised if it is eventually is nerfed. However until then, T2 roamers I look forward to seeing you on the battlefield, may it be a fight to the death.

Superior Sigil of Hydromancy. You land that on them, the water attunement chill and frost aura. They aren’t going ANYWHERE.

Oh and Superior Sigil of Life. Sigils that stack on kills work best with bunkers cause we simply have the means to stay alive. Unless of course you’re one of those people who run around killing random mobs in WvW after each death…

Elementalist Switching Weapons

I would love an OUT OF COMBAT weapon switch. So i dont have to actually open my inventory and switch every time i face a different situation that needs a different weapon. Mostly for pve.

I agree with this, even if it seems like a minor addition. An out-of-combat switch wouldn’t provide any unfair advantages but it would allow elementalists to be a little more organized.

Kind of a nuisance, but it’s not overly hard to have the daggers waiting at the top of your inventory, quickly press “I” then double click them. Seeing as you can do this I don’t see why making it ONE button would be such a crime, + 10 approval.

Removing a cheap escape option in no way “ruins” any build. It will make it so that one class is no longer immortal. Please, explain how running away is an integral part of your ability to fight 1v1 and isn’t in any way a cheap mechanic. I can imagine how healing nerfs could ruin builds, but please, tell me how many people you are able to kill because of your ability to run away.

You’re right, gap closers and escapes are cheap gimmicks. Lets get rid of stealth while we’re at it, teleports too, they don’t deal high damage, why have them? In fact every sort of skill that can propel your character beyond running speed. As every single encounter in this game is a structured duel that doesn’t require them….

I don’t think focusing on 1 element is “the wrong way”.
I know many many and again many Eles who don’t want to swap a lot and spam everything on CD or rotations, they like specialized play.
It’s just the Ele class lacking a proper specialization system with T3 traits.

I.E.
Pyromaster: Fire spells have their critical chance doubled.
Attunement recharge rate increased to 60s and spells of other attunements have -50% dmg/healing.
Stormcaller: Air spells have their damage increased by 25% and recharge 20% faster.
Attunement recharge rate increased to 60s and spells of other attunements have -50% dmg/healing.
Stoneguard: +250 toughness and condition damage. Armor of earth cooldown halved. Attunement recharge rate increased to 60s and spells of other attunements have -50% dmg/healing.
Frost Mage: +250 vitality and healing power. Water spells cause vulnerability.
Attunement recharge rate increased to 60s and spells of other attunements have -50% dmg/healing.

I actually wouldn’t mind seeing this implemented, I doubt I would personally use it but it would be interesting to see what others made of it. It would probably be a staff only trait as you need versatility to stay alive on the front lines.
Maybe not a whole minute on attunement swap, an increase yes but not a whole minute, that’s a bit absurd. The damage and healing penalty is enough to not bother with other attunements.

I think the WvW’ers would cry about how OP the staff Ele’s would become, as they can now stop at 40% or so crit chance from zerkers and use Valkyrie to give them high toughness whilst still dealing full Bezerker damage <- One of many of the ways these traits could be used, it would still be interesting to see what other people can come up with, and to see people break out of the default attunement dancing :]

If I could give you my like I would. A signet build on ANY profession is a recipe for disaster cough warrior cough

My two cents. Staff users don’t feel the pressure of being targeted (most of the time) so really any “tactic” will work for them, because they don’t know what doesn’t work. As a D/D wielder sitting in one attunement is guaranteed suicide, whereas someone sitting on the sidelines could one mash and think they’re helping.

Yes let’s get rid of our only viable escape option. While we’re at it, lets get rid of thieves stealth and shadowstep, they can escape too easily with that. Mesmer’s stealth and blink next, they can use it to get away, I’m not happy with that. All Elementalist has going for it is regular healing and mobility. Take away mobility and we may as well play a Guardian.

Sorry Taldren, not buying it. EA is no longer a blast finisher, I have never seen a dual EA happen, ever. My guess is that you’re seeing your health go up from simply switching to water attunement as water EA has no animation to identify it. Other than that, the actual skill Cleansing Wave has an ungodly long cooldown. Therefore most of your healing is coming from simply being an Elementalist, having very little to do with your weapon choice. Staff (literally) blows this out of the water with blast healing from Eruption and Healing Spring. If you dare try to add Cone of Cold into this argument then I will truly write you off as the troll that you are.

The blast finisher was removed from the dodges in Water/ Fire and Air attunement, where it existed as an unintended side-effect of Churning Earth (the earth dodge’s skill) having a blast finisher.

Blast finishers were removed from all attunements’ dodges, but later added back into Earth’s dodge. That said, D/D’s only combo fields are fire fields. In theory they could carry Healing Seed Pods to generate water fields on the fly to blast finisher in, but that’s only applicable in PvE and dungeons.

One of the biggest benefits for D/D healing is that the player is always in range of party members for all the small AoE heals, whereas the only reason a staff player would wade into melee range at all is to use Healing Ripple and Evasive Arcana. Thus the D/D’s healing will happen as a side-effect of them playing normally, while a staff user has to go out of their way to use those traits. Most players I’ve encountered also move very erratically during combat and are hard to target with a geyser. Some even actively avoid them… I actually find it easier to heal people with the short AoE burst heals from traits than actual staff skills at times. The healing is delivered instantly, making it a lot easier to connect with.

This…. Is actually a good point. I run D/D with healing power myself so the staff healer being far from combat didnt even cross my mind. Also I do believe that the Earth EA isn’t actually Churning Earth, it just looks like it and is actually just Shockwave, which does NO damage?

I feel that on scepter/focus, which doesn’t need stunbreakers or condition removal as much, signet builds might be viable.

I suppose I am just speaking from a D/D or staff point of view. I just find signets have too long of a CD for such a weak active and passive effect. Signet of fire needs to be turned up a notch, lower the CD so they can’t just instantly remove it, or make it pack one hell of a punch so it NEEDS to be removed.

If I’m not mistaken I do believe he is referring to the trait line, not the weapon skills?

As it stands, any of the trait lines compared to Arcana and Water are baloney. If a signet build were more viable then the final trait Written In Stone would be… INCREDIBLE. But it isn’t, and signets have nothing on cantrips. I put 10 points into Earth to get the Armour of Earth at 50% health (or whenever it actually procs.) That extra stability and protection can be a lifesaver in PvP/WvW situations after taking too many hits and you need to make your escape. In PvE? Not really necessary.

This argument again … I have 1,038 Healing Power and use either a 0/10/0/30/30 or 0/20/0/20/30 build and no one can spike me through my healing output.

With my full-time buffs included … I usually run around with:
Power: 2118 , Precision: 1132, Toughness 1598, Vitality 1456, 10-20% Crit Damage, and 34% Crit Rate.

I get two free 2500 point AE Heals every 10 seconds with Evasive Arcana and Healing Ripple. I heal for over 300 every time I attack and get 400 healing/second from both regen and my water aura.

I have people constantly asking me to group with them because of my massive healing ability, so I would hardly call it wasted.

Plus I still hit like a truck, especially once I cap out of 25 Might Stacks with Fire/Earth/Evasive Arcana/Signet of Battle.

90% of that healing goes to just yourself. So I don’t know why people care that your heals are good for being in the party. A staff healer has better AoE heals by far. Also not sure if that’s what you mean regarding EA as a blast finisher to stack might, as that no longer works anymore.

That’s what happens when a character puts all skills into escapes or “oh kitten” buttons. They are hard to kill.
A warrior with shield offhand, Greatsword, Endure Pain/Balanced stance, Shake it Off, Bulls Charge and Signet of Rage are nigh uncatchable as well. The swiftness and block will give them a head start as you blow some of your immobilisers or cripple/chills. Rush, Whirlwind Attack, Bulls Rush and they are long gone.
People who choose to utilise escapes deserve to reap the benefits.

Few exceptions. During the Jade Maw Fractal if someone manages to fall to their death during the battle, and the Maw is defeated. They will respawn SOOO far away, much longer than 30 seconds away, and miss out on the chest, which usually has incredible loot. Jack it up to like 5 minutes or something, long enough to cover any stuff ups, but nowhere near long enough to do another path.

Raid UI: A commander squad has 12. Zergs larger than this descend into unorganised chaos anyway. (Except for the really hardcore guilds, which is an unlimited group chat you can also use.)

Currency Tab: A guild costs 1s to make. And can store all your non account/soul bound gear, freeing up space in your bank for tokens and what not. Not really much of a problem there.

Legendaries: They’re supposed to be hard to get, we don’t want to see every single person running around with a legendary, especially when there’s only one of each weapon.

Inspecting players: Be gone elitist, people can wear what they want. The nit picking would go through the roof and demanding particular builds would go beyond the walls of COF. At most you should be able to see someone’s MF% to see if their armour is contributing, I…. Would actually be okay with that :]

“Search” Command: The colour of the signets is the easiest way to tell, in lieu of that seeing one or two animations is a quick giveaway. Remembering that you have this same advantage over them, so really, not much of a problem.

Guesting: I actually prefer overflow for the larger crowds O.o

Though those above were met with criticism. I agree with the rest, though some aren’t really that much of a problem, as bigger issues should maintain priority :]

Try to make your legendary dude, skill points are much more ideal to spend on those few materials rather than laurels/fractal relics, and you will probably find that you won’t have enough. Also making infusions for your ascended gear chews up some too.

Gonna try and save this thread. GET RID OF COMBAT CRIPPLE INSTEAD. Yes, combat cripple, that’s what it is. -30% movement speed upon entering combat, it’s the sole reason I don’t do exploring, especially in higher level areas where every mob opens with a ranged attack. I can stability through whatever garbage CC’s they throw my way, but that combat cripple is uncalled for. Have you ever gone from swiftness OOC to no swift in combat? Wow, I could run faster after activating Walk OOC.

IMO it’s the reason people want mounts, if we didn’t get bogged down in mobs so much then this idea of a “solution” would be eradicated.

Gonna have to say keep the professions separated. You want to play a burst character? Play as a thief/warrior. You want good survivability? Play as an Elementalist/Guardian.

As an Elementalist most fights with bunker guardians end in stalemates. We simply don’t have the burst to take each other out. Thieves do not “bide their time” their incredibly pathetic survivability and access to regular healing demands high damage output to compensate. Every profession’s play style should be unique and should all require different tactics to defeat, all whilst maintaining an even playing field. And at the moment I think Anet has done a pretty good job at doing just that.

Once they balance each professions ability to do the 1v1 tango, sure. At the moment warriors and thieves would have to decline every challenge. Bunkers would always win as the defence to damage ratio is off.

Bring in general duelling as a PvP option first. Then perhaps at a certain rank you can partake in Risk Duelling. But keep it in PvP, two people can simply go to HotM and start the duel there.

All players should have ranged and melee weapons on them even if not equipped. Different situations call for different weapons, and most Ele traits aren’t weapon dependant.

It ultimately depends on what you’re doing in WvW. Mindless Zerg vs Zerg is staff for sure as getting anywhere near their Zerg will result in an instant defeated state, though in all seriousness you can just Vapor Form back to your Zerg but eh, I don’t like risking it. For roaming you’ll want Daggers, as staff is just too slow and clumsy if you get stuck in a melee battle.

For basic PvE? It really doesn’t matter. Whichever you prefer, PvE is too easy to matter.
Unless you’re referring to dungeons, then that’s a completely different story. A supportive staff healer is always welcome in dungeon groups (obviously not speed run farmers.) In my experience running daggers gets you hit too much and running a bunker build in a dungeon to mitigate that is wasteful. Just leave the front line fighting to the professions built for it, and steer clear with the lowest base HP and armour in the game. But that’s just my opinion, I’ve seen my fair share of D/D dungeon runners.

Unfortunately to make an effective Elementalist you have to go Arcana for attunement dancing. You have 20 available weapon skills all with separate CD’s, you’re shooting yourself in the foot to not take advantage of that fact. As already stated we get the MOST from on swap sigils so I have no idea what the problem is there.

As far as PvP goes it provides me with the stats I like (cleric’s). In absence of your preferred choice simply play WvW? You can build yourself any which way you like and your build will be put to the test when outnumbered.

However I agree that we need more weapon choices, or perhaps buffs to the less used ones. Cause at the moment it’s D/D for melee and Staff for ranged, and I’ve yet to see an Elementalist without either of these equipped.

our guild was in bay preparing to be attacked by the enemy zerg. so we all stood on the northern walls waiting for our enemies, when i noticed a dolyak on the way to their garrison. i ran to it, killed it and when i turned around to go back to bay, a zerg of ~50 ran over me.
for reasons unknown sometimes i just stop thinking when it comes to dolyaks…

I don’t know why but that last line put me into a laughing fit.

Ummm probably letting myself get beaten by a singular Mesmer playing as a bunker Elementalist. Yep. Not one of my finer moments. Oh and before I turned off auto target, RTL back into a zerg, after I turned it off, accidentally deselecting the enemy then RTL off a cliff. With great power comes great room for stupidity.

Here’s hoping I don’t finish Tomb Raider before this problem is fixed. I’ve outgrown PvE, and PvP is a bit too monotonous, I’m liking the free flow of WvW, the not always knowing what to expect (as a roamer.)

But in this modern day and age, server wide lag is simply unacceptable, and is by far the most ground breaking technical flaw I’ve ever experienced in this game. Lag makes the game unplayable. UNPLAYABLE

Get rid of all Nourishments in WvW

OP if you find yourself in a 1 v 1 or even 2 v 1 and you see food buffs with nourishment, maybe even those norn spirit animal buffs, boosters etc. Just turn around and run, it’s a good way to differentiate the pro players from the average. Pro’s want every edge they can get over their opponent, regardless of the cost or effort required. I dislike nourishment and food, I find them pricey and I feel like I’m on a time limit to get things done. You’re copping this much flak for your post because the majority of forum users are in the top tier of gameplay, so trying to take away their “edge” is naturally going to result in hostility.

The funny part is I’m against copying builds, so I studied all the weapon skills, utilities and trait lines. And came out with D/D – 0/10/0/30/30, the most overused build there is. I prefer it over the mainhand scepter because of the more regular healing and enough offensive to push yourself ahead in a 1 v 1. As far as the traits go, it’s just… The best really. 30 in arcana is almost mandatory, you’re running your ele at 50% without it. Water traits could be put elsewhere but the survivability you get from cantrips is too much to give up. I actually go 10 in earth for extra protection in PvP, but in WvW I need to maintain swiftness to run away from zergs, so 10 in air is a must or even the slowest warrior will catch me after I’ve blown RTL.

Ele downed state isn’t immortal, a class with a pull ability who is actually paying attention will just yank you back to them, by that point your 3 seconds is up and you’re a sitting duck. The number of times I’ve been outnumbered and tried to mist form away, only to have a troll Mesmer go “LOLNO” I mean I was probably good as dead anyway but I was this close to throwing myself off that cliff

It seems to be in agreement that Asura are in fact at an unfair advantage. Having to waste a character slot to make one for PvP is absurd, even more absurd if I want the same edge in WvW. I say just boost their model size, they have unique animations and shouldn’t be forced to find themselves transformed into a human. These animations however, SHOULD be visible. Jack them up to shortest sylvari size at the least… If people don’t like it, then they shouldn’t have tried to take advantage of the game.

I could actually imagine their model size getting boosted in PvP/WvW, oh the ugly, all of the ugly.
But seriously, another example, the Mesmer’s no. 2 skill with the sword, granting them evasiveness or whatever it is, that animation is crystal clear on normal sized opponents and is a clear indicator to get the hell out of there. An Asura pulled that one on me and my fire breath buried him to the point where I thought someone had spammed blindness on me at first. Hell it even takes me a split second longer to react to a 100b, which can be very costly. I’m sure the seasoned veterans who can predict each move their opponent makes has no need to reference their animations, but just know you are in the absolute minority of players :]
I can’t really think of a solution other than literally boosting their model size in PvP situations, but I highly doubt that will ever happen. Or y’know… Everyone plays Asura… But looking good > hiding your animations :P

Unsure if this has been mentioned before or not, but does it seem like Asura size gives them an unfair advantage?
I mean against a great big burly norn it is very easy to see their animations, though very last minute it can be enough to keep you one step ahead. Blocking for instance, I honestly can’t even tell when an Asura is shield blocking, the sudden ping of “block” is the only indicator, yet against a bigger target you don’t even need to waste cooldowns to see that your attacks will accomplish nothing. Also some players run without signets or passives, which are the easiest way to identify profession. Without those I look to their armour and animations, when I can see neither it makes it much harder to tell what I’m up against. I mean you really want to know if a thief is running at you, cause you’re about to take three very painful hits and find yourself turned to stone, you can easily pick a regular sized race, but Asura? It’s just a guessing game…

I don’t understand your argument at all. You get certain rewards for doing certain things. I personally despise WvW and get bored after about half an hour. But unfortunately I need Badges of Honour, so I will have to spend hours half asleep at my keyboard partaking in zergs (solo or small scale play ends in too many deaths from stumbling upon groups of 1000+) to get 500 for my legendary.
The game does not revolve around you and your refusal to play other parts of the game. And really in comparison, the rewards other than ascended items that you get from doing FotM is far, FAR greater than WvW.

Granted, the difference between us is stats and skins, but ultimately it’s all stuff we plan on getting… Though now that I think about it, can’t you get all ascended trinkets with laurels? O.o

I saw them on an enemy invader in WvW in case they’re only attained through WvW. It’s 4 boons depicting the norn spirit animals and giving equivalent boosts (though this was on a charr.)

Are you crazy? Warrior has plenty of gap closers, immobilisers and CC. A good warrior doesn’t need to stay in range for long to make their point. What they lack is escapes, after you’ve done GS 3 and 5 you better hope swiftness can keep you ahead.
