I farm nodes with my DPS optimised, dungeon running build (full Berserker.)
With Healing Signet you can still ignore mobs for long enough to get your nodes, and if you wanted, you could always just kill the mob bothering in you in a few swings.
To keep it short, Warriors are only brought into dungeons for their damage, wear anything other than Berserker’s and you’re wasting your team’s time.
Hey it’s not just crit damage, precision and power play fairly important roles too :P

Also these sorts of posts are the only thing making this subforum interesting beyond the regulars disputing 0.000001% damage modifiers.
What good is reflecting projectiles when you’re already blocking? Not to mention most people here wouldn’t dream of wasting trait points on it as a source of DPS as you lose so much more by having it. A reflect? Yes, a viable one? Far from it.

Don’t get me wrong even I used Lava Tomb when levelling, but I just don’t see it in dungeons. The Fire line has some brilliant traits in there it’s silly to waste a slot on the chance of getting downed, which all in all only serves to encourage bad gameplay at the loss of bloodlust/perception stacks.
I refer to Scepter/x because it stacks might so much better without gimping your damage, the rapid speed and number of blast finishers you can get off is pretty impressive. Though Scepter damage is agreeably terrible (and using it on targets with retal is almost suicide), so running Lightning Hammer would be a must ~ seeeee not easy to guess other people’s builds

Literally any other trait would be better than Lava Tomb, if you plan on being downed a lot maybe you should take +downed damage nourishment.
You are correct on that one Sigil of Battle does give 3 stacks of might, not sure where I pulled 1 from :/
I must be missing something, I already said Eruption to blast your own Fire Field, you’ve got Arcane Wave and you said you have Elemental Surging so there’s no Evasive Arcana blast finisher, where’s the 3rd blast finisher coming from? Also trying to make heads or tails of people’s obscure builds is harder than it looks.
This thread is completely about min/maxing, considering the opening post is the best possible damage build you can have with a staff.
And finally my build can consistently stack 12 party-wide might in just over a second, 15 with some fancy footwork, with all the accompanying Fury from Persistent Flames. Don’t start a stationery war with me I can assure my pencil case is bigger
@Dolan: dealing 95% of the damage of a warrior (while running some support traits) is lacking damage?
I’m referring to Ambe’s build. Unless we’re on the same page and Warrior damage halved when I wasn’t looking.

Zelyhn I take back all the nasty comments I’ve made about 10 in Arcana, this gem takes the cake, I should add it to the list of favourite "play how you want " builds.
The only downside to your build is the complete and utter lack of any noteworthy damage.
If you camp staff then I would have to recommend Guang’s build, if you like flicking through attunements to make it seem like you’re actually doing something then I’d recommend Zelyhn’s build.
To be honest I actually had to look up which traits you were referring to because they were all those ones that you instantly dismiss when putting a build together (granted at least you had Persisting Flames.) Also what blast finishers are you talking about? From memory you have Eruption in Earth and Arcane Wave? That’s a whopping 6 stacks of might + 1 from switching to Fire + 1 to yourself from Sigil of Battle. How long exactly are you making these encounters go to build up even a half decent amount of might by being a leech to your team?
Is there a non-viable PvE weapon for any class in this game? O_o
Shield+Hammer on Warrior, Shield+Scepter on Guardian, Scepter+Greatsword on Mesmer, Shortbow+Longbow on Ranger to name a few. Pretty much 90% of all ranged weapons.
Edit2: @ Guang, I’m actually pretty keen to test Staff, especially a combination of LH Ele and Staff Ele for the glorious perma Fury and what should be 25 Might.

Oni my apologies I tend to ignore links, but that is in fact the exact build I use. Nike is pretty good like that and I’m interested to find out what he decides to be the optimal build after Empower Allies gets shafted up to Master tier.

So you run dungeons, with pugs and want to know the best builds for you that can help yourself do lots of damage/help the team out so you’re not stuck running with 5 altruistic guardians buffing eachother constantly and doing no damage?
There are alot of great guides out there for dungeons, but the main factor you need is DAMAGE.
people say blah blah you need healing PVT guardians to support!
Myself and alot of people say GTFO with pvt guardians and tanks.So here you can discuss the type of builds you run- what you think suits you and your team best

Edit: As a gesture of good will, I should warn you that encouraging people to stack Warriors is the fastest way to get laughed off this forum. I understand that it is the dun thing to do with PuGs but just… Not here.
On topic, depending on the content I’d say Thief for oversimplifying trash skips and emergency revives, but pretty much anything you’re good at playing. As an example I PuG AC on Ele so I can carry lousy DPS players with Fiery Rush and frost bows.

What rotations? Both LH and staff builds require you to camp in the same attunement all day.
PvE:
Dungeons – Axe/Mace + Greatsword w/ Furious Greatsword to self stack might+Vuln in PuGs.
Open World Events – Longbow and a good book.

PuG Warrior: “banner of strength”
Second PuG Warrior: “banner of tactics”

Hammer on Warrior is terrible in PvE and anyone wielding one will receive a well deserved kick.
Also stop Greatsword auto attacking you scrub, either GS/Axe+Mace rotation or don’t take Greatsword at all…

She disappears, I count one two three, do a barrel roll and make it through unscathed. Then whilst congratulating myself on a job well done I get stun locked in a Chaos Storm and give myself more conditions than a Necro in AC trolling the kitten out of me.

PuG’s see other players stack, they copy it without actually knowing why and generally lack the knowledge/skill/correct setup to make it work at all.
Also it makes sense to keep together when a target doesn’t deal noteworthy cleave/PBAoE damage for quick revives and buff sharing.
her winds of chaos hurts but that isn’t the only problem. Chaos armor puts lots of conditions (including blinds) and that torch stealth skill hits like a truck. And lets not forget, the chaos storm direct damage is stupidly high especially comparing the the player version chaos storm
You could learn the timing/tell of Chaos Storm so she doesn’t drop it on herself and (double) dodge out of it. Her blink attack is easy to dodge/Block, and I’d hope her auto attack hits for less solo because it won’t bounce. That said I’d still be impressed to see someone solo her Guardian or not, e.g juggling projectiles because SoA would get wrecked by Chaos Storm.
Bonus gold if you don’t chain reflects like a wimp. E.g I don’t see Vevina being particularly challenging on a Guardian.
Also, solo the Butcher from HotW1, I don’t even know how you’d speed clear him in a party setting…

Hey I asked him nicely to get off his lvl 30-whatever Necro, I even offered to hold the cutscene so he could swap it in at the end. I do that everytime I do AC and CoE without being a leech
Also Fafnir why range? It’s not like he has any melee attacks, I see that as higher risk because lower DPS = higher chance of getting swarmed.

Just tested it then.
Got a bunch of different results.
He alternated which attack he opens with, sometimes waiting 5 seconds before using any, sometimes opening with them.
Sometimes he would wait 5 seconds between them, sometimes he would use one straight after the other.
The CD varied from 28-36 seconds but was consistent within that trial. E.g Ice AoE, 5 seconds later Earth, 30 seconds later Ice, 5 seconds later Earth.
On one of the trials I believe I interrupted one of his AoE’s (or perhaps just bizarre RNG) which he then cast 15 seconds later. So I’m guessing that’s what I experienced in PuG’s, someone interrupts him and he then drops it completely out of sync with his first AoE.

Okay c’mon Teq isn’t that bad. I just wish I didn’t have such huge FPS and lag issues near zergs, I couldn’t jump those waves for kitten.
Granted… I spent the whole time doing a typical LS farmer and mindlessly running around getting tags on different mobs then going through my achievements mid-battle to see what I needed to get next xD
Edit: Which reminds me of how I got that Jormag achievement yesterday, I asked a guildie where I was “meant” to stand to get it…. Well… I got it.

Or the Guardian has buried him in a hell storm of fire.
He will open with his two insta-gib AoE’s in succession, so you could always let Spire get hit with both before running in and DPS’ing. As for the 33 seconds I’m not so sure, feels a lot quicker sometimes.
If you’re LoSing him into the corner then get him to aggro to you first and just chain evades/invuln/blocks until you see both go off.
I try to avoid fighting him in PuG’s because it takes ridiculously long and not worth the risk of getting insta-gibbed, why people want to spend 5 minutes running wildly around in circles getting one shotted all over the place for a measly champ box is beyond me.

Reported for spreading atrocious glitch tactics that only help to lower the already low skill level of PuG players. Organised teams can kill him in 3 seconds, whilst this is hardly expected from PuGs you can still just DPS him down before getting buried in too many adds.
I read that twice and I’m still not entirely sure what you’re asking. But from what I can make out you might be referencing the upcoming massacre of TA by Living Story dribble? I thought I was free when the events ended, nope Scarlet still sends me pop ups every now and then, and now she’s invading my dungeons? Hell no.
Though, what might be funny is watching the forum fill up with Q_Q posts about how they can’t get their Living Story achievements because it’s inside TA where they can’t hide behind a zergball and tag for loot.
What spamming Fire auto and Lava Fonts with the ability to AFK at range?…. I could get used to that, maybe take Signet of Restoration so I can watch Youtube in peace.

My favourite COE pugs are when I neglectfully let my team die to Alpha then remember I needed at least one to break me out of crystals. Or! When I do keep one alive and they don’t break me out of crystals anyway Q _Q

RIP in piece TA, I’m going to miss you old girl. I just hope it’s limited time only BS so I can just abandon her for a weeks and return once the taint of Living Story is gone (seriously am I the only one who regards anything ‘Living Story’ with immediate disdain?) I adore the entire theme TA has going for it, the only other dungeon that’s as surreal would perhaps be CoE. I just don’t understand why? Of all the dungeons that have gaping big holes in them they pick TA!? : /
I actually like the revamped AC though I have fond memories the original AC was truly faceroll.
Also Kholer does like one Ranger sword evade at the start of aggro and should be dead before getting off another. Though I will agree that Troll couldn’t possibly have been intended to be killed efficiently, dat perma fear and knockdown with a billion stacks of bleed NTY, you could do the whole path faster than him.

I say 46s and not 47 because it is better to not use the last few charges after the last full chain and pick up the second hammer instead
If you pick up the second hammer fast enough you won’t interrupt your attack chain. Also using Lightning Storm on massive targets like the Nightmare Tree is well worth the cast time, but not really a constant enough of a factor to include in tests.
And of course constant Blast Finishers, so assuming an organised party you’re looking at a lot of Might uptime as opposed to Staff, but again not a constant factor.

People are saying your favourite ele build requires you to get carried, and are unhappy with that connotation.
Pretty much. I’d like to just throw in a snappy “L2P” comment to those that can’t LH in PuGs, but the truth is these players are more than likely better than myself which confounds me even further.
A DPS build doesn’t have to have zero spec for utility. The main idea behind the build has to be to out-put high damage per second, but it doesn’t have to exclude other options (I’m looking at you, Wardens Feedback).
I get your point, but it’s like if I took the 30/25/0/0/15 Warrior Build (what I would take in PuG’s) and changed it to 20/25/10/0/15 because I feel safer with a Shield. It is incorrect to claim this to be a “DPS build” because I have sacrificed so much to nab a bit of survivability, as long as there is a build that gives you higher damage, it isn’t worthy of the title.
But I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time anyway, Staff Ele is where it’s at
And Guang you get like 95% Hammer uptime if you’re constantly wailing on the target? So add in any dodging/healing and you’re almost at a full circle. In PuGs you’d use any downtime to stack might/fury, do you even Conjurer?

Either way, it’s a mistake to say something isn’t a DPS build just because it isn’t totally optimized for only DPS.
That’s what a DPS build is, optimised for damage. I look at a 30/30/0/10/0 Ele and see a support Ele, sacrificing damage modifiers for Vuln and Fury stacking. Whilst it is offensive support it isn’t built for raw damage.
So when I see a boon spamming, non conjure wielding build, “DPS” isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. That’s not at all saying it doesn’t have it strengths, but it just isn’t damage.
It is just a lame disagreement in terminology and I’m not even fully sure why I care so much, I suppose I don’t want to see PuGs roaming around claiming to have “mad d33pz” then seeing Dagger auto attacks and a flurry of boons.
I think I’ll just stop because we seem to be judging builds on their bad PuG carrying abilities, and it is a sad day if that is what this forum has been reduced to.

That’s why I take epic carrying Ele for AC, I don’t even want to imagine how long the Queen would take without me (and just me, my abandoned FGS still off to the side) Fiery Rushing her. Then of course getting to the silvers and everyone switching to ranged as they climb up the rubble <_<
I’m like, “YOLO” does one Whirl and Rush, “AW HELL GETTING THE F**K OUTTA HERE” gets downed, becomes that baddie bargzwirkor that everyone whinges about.
My full Cleric’s shout heal Warrior is still a DPS build because I use Greatsword. I take it in PuGs because their damage is bad and I need survivability.
Jokes aside there is a time and a place, not that I have much experience at soloing Lupi, but if I were to try on an Ele, Focus and 10 in Arcana would be the first thing I grab hold of.
Also I like how being in an organised team in which you’re able to spec fully into DPS means ‘getting carried’.
It’s true LH is faceroll easy, but what can I say I’m a lazy player and if mashing 1 gives me the best damage, then I shall mash 1 till the cows come home. As opposed to putting in infinitely more effort for less damage, why?
The same goes for Warrior, I can see the benefit in doing a Greatsword rotation for solo play/PuGs where maintaining Might stacks is an issue, but outside of that I see Warhorn as a better option with the Blast Finisher and on the demand swiftness to get your party straight into skipping the next set of mobs.
Also Solo I actually never knew you could do that, granted I haven’t used Churning Earth since my PvP days :P
And I must insist that an Ele build with points in Arcana is not a ‘dps build’.

How is Focus better at cleansing? You’ve got a selfish x3 condi cleanse (on an attunement damage builds will rarely go into) vs an AoE cleanse + burst heal on Dagger (plus not having to switch out of water), granted I could count the times I’ve used Focus on one hand since its a completely defensive weapon, so I might be missing something there.
Seriously just look at the DPS difference between Flamewall and Ring of Fire (assuming accurate tooltip), that alone is better than 2 extra seconds for the slowpokes to get their blasts off
Also Churning Earth is terrible deeps, dat cast time sheesh.
So I suppose if you’re boon spamming as opposed to camping in water on a Hammer then Focus would be better, especially in PuGs where you have to sacrifice DPS for a bit of sustain, but otherwise I just don’t see the appeal :/
