You can play how you want, but in my opinion, any double bow build is a total joke.

For WvW, I guess this could be okay for pug zerging where anything goes, but if you brought this roaming or into spvp, it’d fail to do anything of value. Thieves and even mesmers will eat you for each meal, condition classes will have their dirty way with you, you won’t be able to outdps the sustain of low risk high reward specs, and people will honestly view you as a free kill.

I play a number of spvp specs (incliding S/F burst ele with up to 13-15 seconds of projectile immunity) and I have never once lost to a ranger with a bow 1v1 unless he switched to greatsword and I messed up. So many rangers have such a sick fetsish with bows that they will sit in the bow even as you draw close, its mind boggling to me. If a ranger joined my solo Q team with such a build, I’d honestly ask them to change to something even remotely more useful..

As for shortbow, I doubt there will be any reason to use it once the feature patch comes out, as Axe/dagger will outclass it completely with the next generation of cheesey celestial might stacking builds. But if eles, warriors, engis and S/D thieves, can be invicible with 20 stacks of might, why can’t rangers?

I gotta agree, versus a competent bane that Rangers have, I wouldn’t be surprised you can wipe out some builds with your playstyle. That’s the case with any build, though. Show us your ranger build and someone will show you a bane to it.

No one should sit in close ranger with a LB, SB is different.

Bows just haven’t got enough evasive ability for me, when evasion is a key advantage of ranger.
:(

LB/SB with utilities has 5 (plus 2 dodges – 6) evades (counting stealth, a form of evasion).
S/D/Axe/D with utilities has 6 (counting hornet sting + 2 dodges – 6) evades.
GS/S/D with utilities has 8 (counting GS escape and block + 2 dodges – 8! ) evades.

I can see your argument, GS/S/D will have a slight advantage, but not enough to warrant LB/SB as not evasively competent. The above is just a rough count to show LB/SB isn’t as bad as it sounds, lol.

Rangers have nothing to do with archery other than being able to do it.

The term “Ranger” does not imply a ranged specialist, neither in GW2 nor in tradition. It refers to a character who is an experienced survivalist and who is attuned to nature.

And they can perform that role just as well with a sword as they can with a bow.

Adding on to this, thematically speaking carrying two bows and switching between them mid-combat seems extremely impractical. The fact that the two bows don’t compliment each other very well makes complete sense. Even as a hunter you’d likely not keep a longbow and a shortbow strapped to your back and use them interchangeably. You’d also make yourself very vulnerable to surprise attacks by not carrying a melee side-arm, which would be the main weakness of this build as well.

Wow, lol at all the hate to a different style of a Ranger. I’m sure most here are relatively competent if not pro’s at Ranger pvp, I’m sure as heck not pro. We all understand a Ranger is not “supposed” to stick to bows – we’ve heard this for many months. This doesn’t mean one can stop there and drop the bows. I love bows. Period. OP seems to as well. Let’s help him with that, shall we?

Saying that, Bow/Bow has many advantages, including pushbacks, stuns, evades, stealth, and a high powered attack. Switching between the two allows you to add more survivability to a high powered zerker ranger, coupled with 2 dodges and lightening reflex – not counting if you trait to survivability-condi removal/dodge roll removes blind. There’s a lot of hate towards LB in spvp and it’s completely justified but can be competent with the right strategy and in good hands.

On the other hand, switching to GS allows block, a stun and an escape, comparable to SB evades minus the escape. Very well to that. Sword/D has 2-3 evades. Very well. I can see the argument of a melee side arm for a surprise attack, but I fail to see how bow/bow cannot deal with the same surprise attack equally. You cannot block your way prematurely from a surprise attack.

Two bows can compliment each other, meta? No way. In competent hands? Sure.

In all the others games I’ve played. This game has the worst dev to player relationship.

The forums feel like we are talking to a brick wall.

If I was asked to review this game on those areas I’d give it such a low score they would think I was trying to sabotage the game… When in fact I love the gameplay
But hate the non existing communication

Non-existant communication, you say? Could you name me one MMORPG that’s fully released in which a developer responded or remedied immediately or shortly after receiving a huge wad of complaints on the forums?

EDIT: Sometimes I think this post reminds me of this particular video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBddZ1uwtsk

We aren’t necessarily talking about an actual full-time developer to communicate with us. If you took the time to read this thread, along with the 10 other threads that have popped up recently, we are full aware a developer should be busy developing.
We ARE wanting a communication liaison between us and the developers rekindled again.
This is what the original poster quoted is talking about: many games have many communication liaisons who frequently post on game updates, etc. etc. GW does not anymore.

we need more Real time Forum communication from a Dev or Rep ..

if we was given a day in the wee kto do this at a certain time ON THIS FORUM , ON THIS WEBSITE.

it would Fix soooooooooo many complaints

Actually it wouldn’t fix anything. if you look at other games, where there is more communication, what happens is the players end up yelling and having temper tantrums at the developers. It changes nothing.

Ive been there, i played WoW for 7 years.

The communication on the forums did both Good and Bad…

but all this NO communication is just doing BAD, nothing Good is coming out of the Silent treatment.

Agreed, and this is the exact point of all these threads and chaos in-game and in our community. Such a small mistake and here is the result.

Dusty Moon: “Actually it wouldn’t fix anything. if you look at other games, where there is more communication, what happens is the players end up yelling and having temper tantrums at the developers. It changes nothing.”

Actually NO Dusty Moon the games that have the best community-developer relations are those in which they A: don’t stifle complaints like they do here B: Don’t throw away 2 years of suggestions folders C: Don’t follow a completely different direction than the one they sold everyone on (Nov 2012 announcement of Ascended and Fractals) D : Have an actual player council from all player types so they can get feedback instead of E: Shying away from the playerbase because they KNOW they aren’t fulfilling their list of not just 1 set of prelaunch promises mind you but the new second set that still has yet to be done on the wiki page.

Seriously, PoE, Skyforge, Allods, STO, Diablo III, WoW, Rift, EVE all have way better relations with their playerbase and it shows in their games. The devs know what the problems are they don’t just give people lipservice like what happens here, and their feature packs are actually fixes for the real concerns of the playerbase instead of just something a couple of guys were sitting around at taco bell talking about one day, because that’s exactly what this list of Feature Pack 2 looks like. not a single actual concern from the Engineer forum is in this patch. Explain that.

Like Rift? That game was so messed up when the developers listened to whiners on the forum. It is an accident waiting to happen.

There is nothing wrong with constructive comments but most on this forum post, ‘I want the developers to answer my question’. This is not a question/answer session.

Give good decent criticism with information to back it up. Just don’t say, ‘BECAUSE I WANT IT’. Unfortunately, people on this forum are the latter not the former.

You mean that’s why it’s still getting soooo many players on a monthly basis who stay with the game for a very very long time even after going F2P because it’s so messed up? It’s got a great basis for gaming a system where they don’t take advantage of you (unlike this economy) and they actually have CASUAL things to do like housing, fishing, alternate minigames with rewards.

So how is Rift messed up again? Oh that would be they aren’t you’re just trying to support your premise that Arenanet shouldn’t listen to their playerbase because…what again? And you’ve obviously not read any of the suggestions forum, you know that place where Arenanet dumped an entire 2 years or so of great criticism great solutions and feedback about the basic necessities of mmo gameplay….because to sit there HA and lie by saying that’s all these posts are about means you really haven’t spent much time here on the forums have you? wow…I suggest you take some time out of your day and actually go educate yourself a bit more about the sheer number of important necessary updates this game needs to be back on track borne of long term player’s experiences from multiple titles along their way, not to mention multiple internet game review personalities with a passion for this title and who’ve recently also expressed concern over the silence and misdirection that these feature patches are going in. It will inform you of just how wrong you are.

You’re deluding yourself. For a free to play game, Rift just isn’t that popular. I can’t imagine why you think it is.

What generalization is back by this?
I see on a popular mmorpg reporting site, Rift is consistently ranked as one of the most popular games – not of course THE most popular, but by far not enough to throw it out of this discussion.

Domino.1359

For the purposes of triggering the bonus damage (#6), the game considers summoned NPCs to be companions; this includes illusions, minions, and those produced by sigils (e.g. Sigil of Demon Summoning) or various consumables.
However, you lose the bonus if your animal companion dies.

Anomaly:

The bonus is also applied if the player has a miniature out or has used a summoning skill from a gizmo, e.g. via Summon Familiar (bat).

In all, a few hours at best of a new LS story, some new achievements that go along with it, a few tweaks in most professions. 1 new map (Dry Top – goes with the new LS). 1 new wvw karma train map (Edge of the Mists).

You may or may not were in-game for the Ascended armor/weapons, which is an upgrade above exotic of minimal stat increase. The increase in crafting is 500 now, which is only for a select few professions.

Other than that, it’s relatively the same in most aspects. Especially pvp/wvw.

I’m also wanting some type of direction of where GW2 is headed – a blog could show us: what is being worked on, what’s being canned, who’s in the employee spotlight (job wise), future projects and future testing of projects. It could for one handle the major dissatisfaction some of us are having with blackout.

Your favorite profession to play as?

I’d say Ele and Ranger (keep your Charr Ranger – least played race for Ranger!)
Both are amazing PvE. Pets for Ranger are a helpful factor for newcomers and can do your tanking for you.

Ranger and spotter/frost spirit are an asset for dungeons. Ranger as condi/spirits or power ranger can be surprising in PvP (don’t let anyone tell you differently, just l2p issues).

Ele is also very much essential for dungeons and any PvE event.

Whatever you try, good luck.

I agree with the OP and dislike the current trend of outfits. I’m all for certain outfits, like our old town clothes and Halloween and Christmas outfits, holiday to sum up, type of sales.

But this sale of armor now is tiring. You have plenty of other armor skins in the gem store that are not outfits – please continue with that. It’s what most like (i’m assuming, I could be wrong). It’s customizable which GW/GW2 does amazingly.

Of course, the only plausible way is to vote with your wallet. So, if you don’t like it, don’t get it. At the end, hopefully we’ll see what this leads to.

Chemiclord is spot on. Let me ask y’all this; Do you spend as much time harping on the Auto companies about their recalls? probably not. I bet most go through life saying big deal. Well, some of these recalls caused loss of life, I don’t seeing that happening here. I mean it is a bloody entertainment. It is not a partnership, it is not a marriage, it is not a mano a mano relationship either. It is a customer – business relationship.

Could they be better with communication – darn right they could but yelling like 2 yr olds and having temper tantrums, on the official forums, has done exactly what for the game? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

People need to get a life outside of gaming. There is more to life out there.

We are not discussing life outside of gaming, friend. We all know what life is. We are not discussing car recalls and deaths…. C’mon…

Does a car company keep an open forum? Does a car company have a direct line of communication to the buyers? Does a car company have employee’s riding with you on the freeway? (okay probably, but no Arena guid tag above their head, lol).

What is the difference between a car company and a mmo/GW2? EVERYTHING. We are a small community. This is not an billion dollar industry outsourcing to other countries with millions of employees. This is a small community of like minded individuals/groups with a line of communication to the developers (at the moment, our frustration is this line is closed). We/developers host events with nerd gamers and get together and game. Your comparison is widely reaching. You have one thing correct: it is still a customer-business relationship – however, communication will not leave us in a temper tantrum.

There is a similar thread right above us with this issue: I’m standing by the point that constant communication will indeed create a kitten-storm but it also informs our players of our community (!!) that you hear us, you understand us, and our game is and will change (or not). And sometimes, it doesn’t create whining in the least.

At the moment, theory aside, Anet does not communicate with us – saying these recent interviews is communication is too far from reality. It’s these interviews with a lack of content and progression that are creating a kitten-storm in this community and in-game. It’s the interviewee that is creating this problem with “i don’t know’s” and “on the radar” for the past 2 years.

We need more communication.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Domino.1359

Domino.1359

Good point and post, OP.

A mmorpg is organized into a small knit community, whether we like it or not, and as a small community, we have the ability to have a direct line of communication to the developers of this mmorpg, and of course, vice versa. Of course, they don’t HAVE to, but we are a community. We are not dealing with the governor’s office. (funny in that working with a senator there were PR liasons/assts that answered questions/comments at any time).

In saying as much, this lack of communication is poorly done and should not be the standard for mmo’s and GW2. Plenty of other mmo’s have had many instances of constant communication (SWG, TSW, SWTOR personal experience) that, yes at times, created a kitten-storm, but at least we know what we are dealing with in the future. But these terribad interviews are not communication – it’s a “we don’t know” and “on the radar” for the past 2 YEARS – and the lack of response on the forum is not even close to communication.

Following this post and the OP’s will certainly be posters saying “Anet doesn’t need to communicate” in which i’ll ask: why not?

Speaking not only for myself but of discussions with fellow guildies who DON’T frequent the forums but have heard of this interview…

… the PR of Anet is horrendously bad, from the gamescon stream to this interview – it isn’t representing anyone but lack of end goals and like the OP mentioned, total lack of relations with the community, whom at times on the forum, do represent quite a lot of gamers who don’t speak out.

And finally, coming from someone who loves GW1 and GW2 with a passion, this interview has come across as a total let down and a reason to not play as much because why? Developers of this game don’t seem to envision an end goal and do not listen to the community in whole.
2 years on creating another method of a precursor and the only answer is “it’s on the radar” and “soon.” soon was two years ago, buddies.

We actually have a lot more than GW1, and are not severely lacking in comparison. HOWEVER, I do agree, more pet skins. More variety, more of a mini-game inside pet taming, pets in general. many possibilities that GW1 had that GW2 can adopt.

Some are the Zaishene manageri (spelling!) and leveling pets.
Different colors of the same pet types – some possibilities are mini-quests to get rare colors.
For instance: Obtain Black Wolf – go through a mini-quest of moderate difficulty in the same manner as the hunt for the new back piece.
Obtain the Undead Eagle – ‘’ ’’ but in Orr.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Domino.1359

You should try lowering the gamma value from the default 1.00 to 0.80 . That would make the colours more vibrant and also makes nights darker.

I personally think that the game looks better with a gamma value of 0.80 instead of the default.

Do note that changing the in-game gamma value only works if you’re playing full-screen.
You can move around that bar, but I suggest you type the desired value instead.

If you don’t know where to go to change the gamma value, it’s
Options > Graphics Options > Display > Full-Screen Gamma

Thank you for the tip! Just tried it, although still not to the desired effect, looks great.

I also agree with this thread; more darker nights and less artificially bright ground would add so much more immersion to this game. Every weapon and certain armor pieces would look that much brighter and glorious.

You’ll be wanted in Dungeons for massive damage – or you can be entirely tanky for solo PvE.

It’s also a challenge to go from switching to 2 weapons, primarily using one, to switching to 4 with Ele, so a learning curve.

The lower end zones are too easy when downscaled, especially in a 4 man grp. Wait till you hit the 60+ zones, especially Orr and champion events. Downscaling isn’t what you have in mind.
Fractals will be great for your group.
WvW will be great with a 4 man team – be sure to hit max level beforehand and gear up.
Dungeons can be good too.

Actually, GW1 players did have to farm and stuff to obtain the HoM points to achieve said rewards. It’s a perfectly fair reward to the players of GW1. Someone please come kill this thread.

Watching the cinematic got me pimped up to replay it all over again.

This stuff needs to happen at the close over every LS chapter. It makes it feel… largely important to us. It certainly enveloped me.

About the cinematic: beautiful, eerie, like a large secret is out there.
Great job anet!

Anet, Thank you, The best LS ever!(spoilers)

I must agree.

The graphics at the ending scene really got me sucked into it now. I cannot wait.
Before, I was really just… doing the content. Not much story intrigued me.
But this ending scene really got me feeling like the stories from GW1 did. Excited and wanting so much more.

The story matters immensely . I’m def immersed now. Took long enough.

(Edit to include the sound effects in certain area. It sounds awesome with headphones. Also edit to include the newly opened area. Graphically beautiful, larger than life. What GW2 is supposed to be.)

Can someone coming in now still do spinal blade? You can by the recipe in lions arch I think… but the limiting factor would be power cores for ascension. I assume there’s no way to get more assualt knight power cores without buying from TP correct?

Actually, you can buy power cores from the TP. They’re are around 1g each I believe.
I missed that LS story to have enough blade shards, but have all the misc. items needed except for the blade shards – lucky enough they added the home-node at laurel merchant that drops shards to speed the process up.
