Yeah, no whining included, it’s lost a certain addictive nature to the pvp. When certain elements become frustrating, it’ll have an obvious negative outcome. Got about 3.5k games in and I have yet to log into mists in about 2 weeks.
Its insane if you get 4 seconds daze from 1 skill all the time it really needs to be toned down….
Go home, George, you’re drunk.
The new players aren’t coming or are quickly driven away by being hammered in matches. I brought a guardian friend to pvp, after getting crushed 5v1 he vowed never to come back.
Anet could mitigate the damage somewhat by bringing back solo queue. In fact, I think all ranked matches should be solo queue. I haven’t pvp’d yet in GW1 but my understanding is that teams aren’t permitted?
If the intent were truly to be competitive and skill based, teams would be forbidden since they give a major advantage and conceal the weakness of individuals.
I’m no longer certain that ANET wants pvp to succeed.
A 5 vs 1 situation is L2P issue since only 2 things could of occured.
1) he ran into a point he was gonna get slaughtered at.
2) Team mates are either running in 1 by 1 or fighting at another point and lost therefore starting the snowball effect.
Both are L2P issues that deal understanding your class/build/team set up and not acting like a hero. PvE players typically do that to since you can kind of just run into mobs. Here in PvP land, its not so forgiving.
Remember winter is coming
^this.
I’m pretty sure he didn’t mean a literal 5v1. Or maybe he did…?
I had a few guildmates try out pvp, them being past rank 20, and they couldn’t stop being faced against either premade or complete blow out matches. This was after me giving advice and helping them understand the lower leagues can be a bit frustrating. But that’s the issue – this shouldn’t be frustrating play experience for new players – they just straight up leave and never come back.
looking pretty cute there.
Did you have a 10+ victory streak beforehand? Or at least more losses than victories? There’s a lot of folks on here complaining of the same thing – the 50% w/l pushes you back down.
It’s almost embarrassing what PvP in GW2 has been transformed to – I just don’t know what to say anymore. I’m laughing irl – on the up side I’m actually tuning into twitch just to see the ridiculous nature of it all.
They clearly have no idea what they are doing.
What are they doing?
That is a good question, sir. Asking good questions is, of course, the only to way to receive full anet enlightenment.
This will be changed for an upcoming update so that disconnecting will not cause a desertion for party members if they win. The player who abandoned the match will still get a desertion.
Is there a way to identify which player leaves during a match and doesn’t come back as a desertion? In this case, if a player gets DC and does NOT return, he will suffer desertion and pip loss.
For a player who DCs and comes back in due time to help his team with a win should not be labeled a deserted or has abounded his team.
There’s something of a brilliance to your writing. job well done
Max level is 80, and in order to access HoT areas you’d need to be at 80. In order to start on your masteries (like gliding, Legendary crafting, etc.) you would need to be done with all of your initial skills/specializations, which is at level 80.
So nothing I can think of that’d you’d be missing out on leveling.
Not a clue – I’ve tried keeping track of why I lose or gain a certain amount of pips… needless to say, i’m still stumped. This is coming from a educated graduate student. Haha!
Lost a game and got -3 pips. We had a full sapphire team with 1 ruby.
Won a game against a quad team with a ruby and gained only +1 pip.
Lost a game with an even amount of sapphire/ruby and both teams and gained +1 pip.
So many more examples that’s just not consistent at all. Nothing is consistent with this system. Ever.
Had a guild mate have this same problem – terrible because he’s the type of fresh meat we want in PvP for a healthy environment. Instead, they run into this type of problem where his team consists of 4 amber/1 emerald against sapphire/ruby and 1 amber. He won’t go back till it gets addressed.
There’s bigger fish to fry then the old DH nerf-song now. Bunker Druid, Scrapper eles… just dodge-roll = DH countered.
Ye matchmaking aint the best BUT
You are PVE ranger with 200 solo arena games who still thinks that scoreboard points matter… people who are supposed to be on your MMR are atm practicing hotjoin or unranked at best.
Thats thing people dont understand you already should be experienced PVPer even before quing for ranked.
Solo arena games are no fully phased out from the pvp scene for almost… a year? Has nothing to do with his ability to play ranked. Logic’d,
(edit to make sure)
(edited by Domino.1359)
That gold though…
Anyways, your matches are all close – what build are you running? What’s your role? If you self identify what’s holding those 90-100 points back you should be winning more.
I suggest doing away with the pure bunker scrapper build and get more involved in the team fights. Often times lately when I’m getting teams line the ones you’re describing I find the best approach is to hold their hand through the whole match. Call targets for them. Call rezze’s for them. Secure stomps because they won’t. Rotate to support them so they don’t feed an enemy point. Etc etc I use an HGH rifle/nade/elixirs scrapper build for this. It’s not meta but it’s not far from it and definitely effective for solo Q
I’ve been in a few matches with you so not denying your claim, but the bunker scrapper can definitely fit into more involved role in team fights, its just how one specifically plays it. With a pure bunker scrapper, there’s enough sustain and boon support to safely get the job done (stomps, rezzs, calling targets and staying alive for it).
So to the OP, maybe get involved in the fight more to hold their hand! Scrapper is able to do it There, successfully utilized rigga and the OP in one paragraph. Win win.
Lol! That comp does speak volumes for the guild team. Sorry for your loss, bro.
I agree. This whole everyone’s a bunker classes is just unfun – a look into the recent ESL matches, and also our own matches, is a prime example. Everyone’s choosing the prime classes to get the job done – bunkers, and all fights are too long.
Each class needs to be shaved down to their original purposes, or at the very least, tone down what’s happening in pvp.
Attached a screenshot of this. Sort of unusual – it was a victory if I remember correctly but it says “Bye.” Anyone else get this?
Ignore the terrible matchmaking history. I’ll get 2 wins followed by 2 losses, 1 win followed by 1 loss. 5 wins followed by 5 losses. Awesome stuff. /rant
Had a match earlier against someone with a build similar to this. Really impressive his skill at it; lots of survivability and movement, but lackluster with damager. Completely unable to push someone off a node though – he ended up trolling point to point.
He took HGH and elixir R for quick revives/self.
Just check the LFG in-game. I’ve never joined a map from there that has failed. There’s usually 10+ taxis during pre-teq.
Wow. So fragile. Your way or the highway, eh? Lol… Go to bed, George, you’re drunk.
So many bandwagon rev players in ranked – they are so bad they’re cute!! rev not op – please more people jump on bandwagon.
Nay.
Reason: Too much MMORPG elements. It’s too bogged down by flashy mechanics that make up this genre.
I play PvP a lot and I can’t even force myself to watch the Esport streams – I feel bad I can’t but I just can’t help but zone out.
However! There are times a moba vid is on my FB stream; no idea what game they are but they’re always captivating. They are simple, clear, precise. Not MMORPG material.
Yeah I remember that pvp system from gw1; loved it. though i’d love to say it’ll work wonderfully here, historically, anet just doesn’t implement these types of game modes the players want back from gw2.
Good post OP. Took the poll – quick glance at results proves this needs to be implemented again. Almost 2k was it?
A screenshot would help, i don’t have any black lines so i have no idea what you’re talking about without seeing it.
You probably do but we’ve become so used to it. It’s the black “painted” borders around the screen – they make the frame look smaller with.
To the OP, I’ve seen a few streaming users have mods that take away/remodify the HUD, though I don’t know how to get it, nor do they usually tell on these forums. I’d love to try them out myself. the HUD is getting old.
The Sylvari in your group has to be lead in order for it to work… I’ve never tried it but I’ve seen the same answer in multiple posts.
Since we’re posting questions – What is the Pumpkin Smasher used for in Scribe? What does it turn into?
I see a requirement of Scribe 300.
Scarecrow
Oh! Interesting. What’s this scarecrow? I tried looking it up via Bing and GW2 Wiki, nothing populated :/

There is a very long thread in the tech support forums on this issue. Your best bet is to keep that thread up top and watch for any users who have fixed the problem themselves (or until anet does).
Good luck, I’ve had my fair share of tech problems with GW2.
Wow… didn’t think this was a major problem for so many unlucky people!
I just started the disconnection problems on the 24th – a day after I bought HoT. Everything was running flawlessly beforehand. HoT was running good.
It appeared randomly in the morning. As far as I’m aware I changed no hardware before that day. My internet was fine.
I sent in a support ticket and a game advisor report. I’ll see what they say later today.
I tried JediYoda’s trick and it didn’t help me unfortunately.
I tried the GW2 support page fix to this “common problem.” It directs you to port forwarding to open up ports 80, 443, and some other one.
I went ahead and did all of that and I still have the same problems.
So if someone decides to do this same thing, don’t waste your time. It won’t work.
Well least i’m not the only one.
Tried again this morning and i’m getting a different error code after about 5 minutes of game time but with the same explanation: lost connection to server.
Just created my topic with same thing. Are you getting an error code 7:11: something something?
Just today I have been starting to D/C constantly – every few minutes – due to an error code : 7:11:3:191:101
“The game client lost its connection to the server. Please wait a few minutes before restarting the client and trying again”
Anyone know what’s going on? I played flawlessly yesterday. Hopped on today around 7pm and no go.
Yeah I noticed that today as well (ranger daily) – most of my matches today with 2 rangers (or more) tended to work out really well. Maybe it’s an MMR thing, or like Sevans said, against unskilled combatants.
Like the above post, I would seriously consider starting over fresh. Zones, pve, leveling, etc. There’s just too much to list.
Look at metabattle (website for best current builds) on ideas for both pve and pvp.
To answer the pvp question, it’s changed. Condi or DPS is where it’s at atm.
I’m no expert, but there’s been quite a few posts recently on this problem. I myself fit into your category and have had the same problem recently. Not really sure what to say about it really – logging off after that kind of bang seems most fitting tho! lol.
Yes, new loot, new weapon/armor skins as well!
" What would a Halloween festival be without treats to go along with its tricks? Candy Corn vendors have new items on offer; trick-or-treat bags have a chance to drop new weapons, a karka helm, or a miniture; and those who face the Mad King in his encounter will have a chance for a rare and marvelous reward! Collect tattered bat wings to start the process of building a wonderful bat-themed shoulder piece."

This is just part of competitive pvp in any game. Pick a MMO with pvp and you’ll be sure to find some trash talk. Got to find a way to deal with it personally.
Oh yes – never moa mesmers/ranger pets. They become beasts!
I use a pig for general PvE: John Locke (I love Lost)
Such good news on Vampirism! Thank you for listening.
Yeah, it is kind of silly to have a one shot reward track for just one BL key, HOWEVER, keys were never a reward in pvp in the first place. On top of that, these keys are meant to be bought in the gem store for profit. This is a free gift to you.
You people are really making a bigger deal out of an insignificant issue. If you don’t want the BL Key, don’t do the reward track.
It may look like a lot has changed, but it’s mainly the visual aspect of it. Take those max characters and jump on a chest train or world boss train. Complete maps or do world completion. As you go along, you’ll see not much has changed.
Or, make one alt and see the minor adjustments. It doesn’t have to be your main, but something else to experience the new changes.
Since you’re coming back in time for HoT, what specialization/elite works better for you?
Do you like the LB, torch, or staff better?
What type of skins/legendary do you have with these weapon types? What’s your favorite?
Next, I suggest you take a look at the elite specializations of each class in their respective forums/their feedback thread. Some of them have reviews you may find intolerable and not what you thought the elite would do. For instance, a guardians traps may not be what you want in a dungeon, but prefer the zerker power of the warrior.
youtube has vids as well of the new skills.
Warrior is still going to be valuable asset to any dungeon and since condi is important with HoT, the berserker could play well.
Ranger still needs a lot of work, so you may want to wait.
I’m not to sure what they were thinking with this whole idea, really what is the point in having 10 new finishers when there are so many rank 80 now who will mostly only use dragon finisher anyway, I do not see this as a reward, I see it as 10 reward tracks earning finishers I do not want until I can get another dragon finisher (which btw is far to OTT)
Once again this seems like another poorly implemented system, which will prob get reworked 3 times over the next 2 years, I’m not excited for it at all.
Uh, you realize you don’t need to activate said reward track, yes? The implementation is fine, and actually pretty awesome to have new reward tracks to work for in the long term. I’m sure many will have the same thoughts. There is literally no harm being done to you.
Rather, the dragon animation is a bit too flashy. I think the best option is to tone down the flames coming out.
Really good timing on a lot of your skill chains! good job on the video.
