I have a guildie that was running around with another guildie and me; she was on a lower alt, and got something like 3 levels in an hour or two in there. Don’t quote me on exact amounts, it was just a throwaway comment she made as we disbanded and I don’t know precisely how long she was doing it.
Based on earlier comments in the thread I just did a daily I hadn’t yet, 50 candy corns eaten. That ticked me up from 9/12 to 10/12 even after completing 3 standard ones in the labyrinth did not. So it looks like the daily tasks will each count once, uniquely, but just doing the daily for the bags will not.
I’m happy enough with that, it gives me leeway to avoid having to use the finishers since in my rare PvPish moments I seldom get a shot at being the one to plant the finisher.
For 3) you do know that you can just mouse over the bottom bar of your inventory to get a nice little pop up list of all your currencies, right? No clicking required.
As this starts in 30 minutes, here is a bump to help out.
I don’t think the game is broken … I almost never rubberband, if ever. If the game were at fault for it, it would affect everybody.
Admittedly I don’t PvP so perhaps there is something going on in that specific part of the game. Other PvPers would have to weigh in on that. Still, this is likely an issue where you should be posting a request for aid in the technical or bug forums, not assaulting ANet for “breaking” something.
I’m all for this. One tweak, I’d like to still have a chat window available while working on changes.
Gele, tune in this weekend (or Monday) — whenever Chris Whiteside has the time to kick it off there is going to be a CDI (Collaborative Development Initiative) on the subject of Guild Raids. You can ask your questions there and even propose answers. It will be a red-flagged thread in the General forums.
Though we’re getting so many red flags now that’s not as distinguishing feature as it used to be
I haven’t seen hide nor ghostly hair of it but my guildie just posted that her lucky asura got it in the first day or two of farming (and a cat of darkness besides). Here’s her pic for those asking for proof it will drop.
Thanks for the shout out, Nox Lucis, but it’s not hard to remember a dance I actually did dance for a while. I used to go ballroom dancing every Sunday night at a friend’s house; they’d had it built with a 50’ long sprung-floor high ceilinged integrated sound system in place of a family room and garage. My wedding reception was there! Waltz was always my fave but tango, schottische, swing, polka, one step, two step, grand march, we did it all. Then my arches went bad and the fun of dance was eclipsed by the agonizing night-long pain afterwards
So I really hope for some good MMO dances some day. I like how LotRO and TESO have appropriate dances for their milieus, and Fallen Earth had a ton (even the Charleston, which made me so very happy). Given the general feel of Tyria, I’d think Victorian through Roaring 20’s dancing would fit right in, within the constraints of game mechanics that prevent couples-dancing.
If you got a birthday blaster, you have the second year achieve.
For me it’s not hitting the right jumps, it’s my movement control. Even with a very sensitive mouse (I normally cursor back and forth across two monitors with about 2 inches of lateral mouse movement) I always run out of room to the right due to the constant right turn. I tested keyboard movement on flat ground last night to see if I could just key move and jump and I simply don’t have the left hand ability. I’m amazingly right handed
At the end of POI (in which they said GW1 lore would figure heavily in the next chapters of LS) they said there would be a teaser trailer coming Tuesday. The first half will be recap, the second half will have teaser shots from chapter 5. And they gave us this shot.
edit: Sorry it’s a bit small, I didn’t have my Twitch screen maxed on my monitor when I hit the Snip tool.
I’m glad it’s fugly. That adds variety to weapon choice — witness those enthusing over it — and saves me from the effort of gathering all the mats
I mean, I’m a big proponent of realistic weapons, but realistic can still be pretty (love my Bonetti’s Rapiers, yes, yes I do). Even my street rat fighter takes good care of her armor and weapons, since they are what save her life. That amount of rust? No thanks!
The thread with the clues and speculation was the fun part of the Reaper for me. The end result needn’t be a must-have when the journey itself was my reward.
common misconceptions in this thread:
- endgame: there is no reason to make raids not regular content for a wide range of levels.
Truth. Think back to beginning this game. Less than level 10, exploring a swamp, and suddenly a shadowy behemoth rears up from the muck, needing everyone from miles around to come charging in … sure it’s a quick kill now, but remember how awed you were the first time you encountered it, especially if you’re one of the lucky people who hadn’t even heard of it before that moment! That’s a world boss for single-digit levels, and I’m looking forward to CDI explorations of how to tailor raid content for all levels of play.
I didn’t realize it was visible but that has to be where you fall out of the sky into the cauldron when you take a “free candy!” door on the ground.
Why not just read the thread right below yours? It even has a dev response.
Nice shots. I wonder if they are deliberately placed, or if you’ve just got a great eye for the angles that feed into the human tendency to see faces in anything vaguely symmetrical?
Zomorros is a classic Djinn of the worst stripe. Woe to any who try to best him!
The place where this affects me is when I want to quickly salvage to finish off a daily. Often there are cheap white armors and weapons, but it’s a bit of a lottery to find the ones that are salvageable. Now that there’s a salvage tab in the TP I tend to just go for leather bits instead rather than cycling through a lot of TP purchases for useful armor/weapons for the purpose.
A symbol in the tooltip or even a whole word salvageable/unsalvageable would help muchly.
Charleston
Tango
Tap dance
(I’d say jig but shogei got to it first)
edit: Why? Charleston is just so fun. My arches aren’t up to it any more, so I could do it pixelated instead. Plus it’s a dance that works solo, in couples facing each other or side by side, and in groups.
Tango would allow for a bit more sexy yet classy moves. Given how the How to Dance works, I’d imagine people could stand facing each other, trigger it, and do a tandem tango. Much easier way to get ballroom dance in than trying to create a waltz (I’ve wanted waltzing in games forever, it just has a ton of issues because it pairs people up).
Tap dance — looks good solo and jig was taken.
(Yeah, I adore vintage dancing, or did when I was physically fitter. MMO dancing usually annoys me with being silly pop dances that don’t suit the setting — though I must admit Charleston was definitely a fad of pop culture in its day).

But you can.
Go to the bank wardrobe. Right click an item to preview it. Shift your preview and bank windows to be side by side. Right click another item. It will show in the preview with the first one. If you don’t like one piece, right click on that piece in the preview to remove it without losing the whole thing.
Dyes not looking right? Open the TP and search for a dye color you want to check. Right click the dye on the TP to preview, do that 4 times to fill all channels. Then you can remove individual dye channels and replace with other colors. (Yes, it would be better to be able to preview from your own dye palette, but that function does not yet exist).
In Players Helping Players RoyalPredator has posted a ton of shots taken from wardrobe previews as s/he helps others find a desired look.
You can.
edit PS: The forum search feature’s been broken for years. Use google instead, it finds threads.
I found it out in beta but couldn’t remember it until I named a norn Altdrag Splitstack. That name being taken in launch, my 80 Engineer is Altdragg Splitstack. He’s reminded plenty of guildies how to do it
To save others from the search I just went through, here is the official response Zaxares mentioned:
Someone else already posted the black effect, the refractors are real. I will have to hope I get enough drops to make myself some of these.
I don’t think that was a cold or even snarky comment. Then again I have a dev friend in another game who has shared a tiny smidge of the bile that the players give to devs on a regular basis. These forums are astoundingly civil and the press is very kind to ANet but I am sure they are subject to enough horrible messaging that they can be utterly certain the behavior described would in fact occur.
Now I want to check the Winged skirt for how it moves.
The black doesn’t bother me, though I admit I’ve only really stared at it on my alt who has the dress in deep blue. I can check with paler dyes; but I just mentally ascribe it to an underslip or flat out ignore it, myself. I’m actually more concerned with the dress texture. A lot of dyes make it come out looking like cotton or even denim, as compared to the male version coat which has glorious detailing and a rich feel. So I’ve had to choose dyes that “take” in a more luxurious fashion.
I’d guess they are leftovers from before that haven’t sold out (and shouldn’t, now that no one needs them).
I’m glad it’s fixed, I didn’t know it was a bug since I don’t buy piles of stuff that often. But I wanted plenty of batwing tonics!
The bug saved me money. I couldn’t instabuy a stack, so I put a bid in instead at one copper under the lowest sell price. That way I got a lump order in, and it filled inside a minute or so, for half what I was willing to pay.
Item one I don’t really know, other than the above suggestions of wine or scrolls (item one isn’t reflective, item two is). Item two sounds very much like the coins.
Item three … is there anything special the karka queen drops?
It does seem a small step from show/hide helm to mix/match helm. (As asked before, also, why not show/hide outfit gloves and shoulders?). Perhaps as an interim, those outfits that don’t have integrated helms such as Noble Count could use the armor helm when Show Helm is selected?
I only have one alt with a must-wear headpiece, my warrior who lost her eye to friendly fire in LA, and she won’t wear dresses anyway. But the ragged Cook’s would work for her if the eyepatch could show.
But so many of the outfits would only be enhanced if any helm could be used with them. Is it a dye field issue? When the outfit’s on we just have the 4 dyes selected, and maybe it’s a coding issue to use the armor helm dyes separately from that.
I was hoping to see it before now, mostly because I like getting a fresh look without spoilers and now I have to depart for the evening
Yeah, I know it might be exactly like last year, but then again there could be new twists and I love them more for first hand experience.
I’ll do my best not to peek at forums before I can log in tomorrow.
/sighs in relief as others point out the error over which she was gritting her teeth
But Chris at least uses capital letters. The one thing that drove me nuts about my supervisor was her emails with no caps, very little punctuation, and lots of “u” instead of “you.” She’s a lawyer! We’re all lawyers! I don’t mind casual typing in forums and personal emails (much) but for official emails about legal matters? /tears out hair
And, to not totally derail, I am psyched to see the next LS chapters. The Machine was such a wonderful surprise I’m eager to see what other mind-blowing things the LS can bring.
Meanwhile a small crowd has gathered at the lion statue to hang out and wait for whatever is coming. (NA)
When it’s ready. ™
Season 1: No. It wasn’t designed with replayability in mind, so they have to do a ton of work to add it to the current system. They’d like to, but cannot promise they will, or when.
The chapters of Season 2 you missed are nothing like expansions, though they do have some bits you need to make the new backpiece, Mawdrey. They do have achievements. You have to complete the chapter once before you can do the achievements on another run through, and that’s per character. So use a character you think will do well at achieves if you don’t want to do a lot of repeating.
Season 2 opened up the Dry Top map. You can go into it without having done the LS, however.
There is a continuing story through the chapters. Going to see Kasmeer won’t make all that much sense to you if you haven’t done all the setup for why you need to go see her. One of the chapters ends with a truly amazing moment that is best appreciated without any spoilers at all.
You can do the chapters in any order, or skip them. I believe the only thing you’ll not be able to do is make Mawdrey because the components come from the chapters. If you do choose to unlock the chapters, all your alts forever will have access to them. From this point forward as long as you log in to the game (not the launcher, actually load into a zone) at least once during a chapter’s lifespan, you will have it unlocked for free forever.
I hope that all helps.
Only in Guild Wars is the content completely recycled. Most games use previous events but add more content, not just rewards.
.
Really? I poked my head in Brewfest in WoW, and have done some of the Halloween stuff these past few days (I’m not deeply invested in going back to WoW — heck, waiting in queue for Headless Horseman until a guildie joined as a healer to make the queue pop reminded me fast of some real pitfalls — but I have some unresolved RP from years ago, and I wanted to see the new models). They looked identical to what I remember from years past, just with some vaguely new rewards, and of course more candy buckets thanks to the whole island of Pandaria having them. All my event achieves are still there; for Halloween the only new achievement lies in doing the aforesaid Pandarian candy buckets.
So yeah, I think “only in Guild Wars” doesn’t fly, here.
I don’t costume my characters as other characters as a rule. But here’s a thread full of people who do!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Cosplay-Screenshots/first#post4278557
I see. But what if people wanted to see an Ascalon themed one without building one first? Or if guilds wanted to show off their halls to others?
An excellent summary! As is all your work.
I’ll comment that GvG is highly but not universally desired. It should definitely be an accessible or even major function but not a core purpose or required element as there are plenty of people that will not touch PvP content. Guilds that eschew such things should not be barred from a useful and fun guild hall.
4) Intergrate the guild halls into the world so you can see them in the distance and can walk up to a portal to enter your one; have guards or something block you from the others unless you are a guild leader shopping for a new hall.
Blocking people from seeing it would not integrate, it would segregate. Individual guilds should have permission control over who comes to give them a look-see but the game itself should not. Nor should only guild leaders have access to seeing all the choices, though via permission control they might set it up so only they can actually implement a choice for the guild.
I believe the general thrust of CDI commentary has been to find ways to make the guild hall system inclusive, an enhancement to game play, and broadly accessible.
Cons: Thief is squishy. Ele is even squishier.
Thief has limited weapons. Ele can’t weapon swap, even out of combat.
Ele is complex to play well (could be a pro not a con), requiring attunement dancing and knowing 20 different skills and how they mesh.
Thief has to struggle to offer group utility.
Pros: Thief initiative means no annoying cooldowns on abilities, only on the resource to fire them off. Thief has a lot of mobility, incredible endurance regen, and lots of get-out-of-trouble tricks.
Ele has a lot of flexibility of role and group usefulness. Weapon choice really changes combat style (though it’s locked in for each combat, thanks to not swapping except by manual dragging of weapons when not in combat). You’re less likely to get bored over time with Ele fighting.
Ele gets prettier clothes.
Would it return you to the same map, though? If the OP is trying to stay in a Teq group s/he might not want to go to the Mists.
Prosperity is in the north east part of the first section of Dry Top. The house door you want is close to the town well, west side of town.
Infernia, those didn’t become tonics. If you had them equipped on a character you’d need to go to the black lion armorer with that character to get them back in inventory.
Time to alt hop like crazy, hey?
That sounds very sensible, Danikat. I do believe the obsidian shards are a depositable material, however, so waiting on them doesn’t save any bag space. Though some of them do drop out of doing the Season Two LS and thus running alts through that could net a few without having to use up the karma.
I think the OP means before the Kind Soul arrives, how does the defeated player know to wait?
The forums usually discuss them, plus if you go in game to play you can check the achieve panel to see what rewards (if any) go with the event individual and meta achieves. The launcher panel has little headlines you can click for more info, like New in the Gem Store or Event X is Now Live.
I don’t think ANet is going to just email every registered account “These rewards are coming for YOU.”
Just making sure, have you gone to your bank yet? That can save you a lot of space, especially if you use the “deposit materials” option in your backpack’s upper right drop down to move gathered mats to the mats tabs of the bank.
Guys, this is so clearly a troll post. Let it go.
