It’s going to depend on your material. Take a look at Pitch, Iron, anything starting with Midnight. What armor are you dyeing? If I have that on any alt I could go in game (on NA) and meet up with you to show you all the dark dyes on it, as I have every non-specialty dye and some gem shop ones (the latter won’t be in the “cheap” category, though).

Let me know, I’m about to take a food break for an hour or so but could do this if you’re ready now.

Sorry again. The forums are full of bad ideas that people promulgate and lobby for. We can’t dictate their development priorities based on whims or FotM desires.

I did read your whole post, but even with that — look at mounts. Many have explained why those are a bad idea in this game. Me, I’m neutral on the subject with a lean towards no-mounts, just using it as an example. If ANet does not believe mounts are a good idea, but the player base “votes” for it, do they then have to give us mounts just because a committee said so? A committee made up of laymen, not game designers, who don’t have access to all the coding and resource issues confronting those 300 people in Seattle?

No.

You don’t need to transfer or guest, just join a party with your sons and use the “join” option in the drop down from their party portraits (you need to be in the same zone as them to do that).

You won’t be able to WvW with them but for the rest of it your server choice will be invisible to you.

And as of the coming patch, even guild perks will be global so you will all have access to guild bank etc.

Yeah, part of Eng skill is a ton of keyboard dancing. If you’re like me and prefer to leave the keybinds mostly default, you’re going to have to reach over to the 7 8 9 keys a lot to swap out your kits/bundles. Plus your F1 – F4 keys change function based on what you have slotted in utilities, there’s about as much memorization of skill patterns as there are for Elementalists.

Thieves tend to be on the squishy side, and can’t do nearly as much support as most other professions. The no cooldown, just manage your initiative resource skill use is very fun to me but I eat dirt more often on my Thief than any other alt, and he was my main at launch. The general consensus is they’re meant more for PvP than PvE, so if you are into sPvP and WvW you might well enjoy Thief quite a bit.

I’m not sure this is the right point to get into Guild Halls, simply because there’s no existing system allowing targeted QoL suggestions for improvement. I myself have many ideas on what would make personal and guild housing truly fun. However I don’t see a way to suggest good embellishments yet. It’s like asking what color ribbons to put in one’s hair before one knows what else one will be wearing or if ribbons will even be an option.

That said, without going into all the foundation details of what makes it worth having a guild hall I’d guess QoL might include:

- Ease of access. One shouldn’t have to travel 20 minutes just to enter the hall.
- Ease of use. Enough room not to have to stack if you want to be in there with a few other guildies. If the hall has functional items like crafting tables, have things like that in useful configurations and locations without using all the space on them.
- A good number of granular permissions. A way to let non-guildies come and see without necessarily using and definitely without power to take or alter anything inside. It could be a great recruitment tool to show off the spiff secret HQ.

Beyond that I’d be getting into my wish list for customization, theming, instancing, etc.

Just to keep symmetry it would have to be heavy. I’ve spent some time trying to come up with something that would have a unique feel and purpose without just grabbing stuff other professions do, and failed. Death-knightish? Just a Necro in heavy. Lots of weapon damage? Hello, Warrior. I did once suggest a wild idea of one with no weapons, where the armor itself becomes the weapon for punching and energy blasts, but then I realized my least fave profs are Ele and Eng since I don’t get my weapon swap …

Good thing I’m not a game designer.

Here’s a minor thing (that might be major to fix): flavor dialogues in the world don’t reflect what’s going on. A lot of them are voice acted, of course, and just editing all the dialogue bits for continuity would be a nightmare for most. But it was quite jarring to hear merchants in the Salma District complaining about the caravan from Lion’s Arch being late … likely due to centaurs … right after Scarlet burned the crap out of LA. 35K people died in that, probably wrecking the economy continent wide, you’d think people outside of LA might at least have commented on the tragedy.

Likewise right now the Grove is its usual happy bright place. Not a single weeping vari in sight to say “ow my head Mom just screamed inside it.” I understand that you can’t make huge changes given that not everyone will have gotten to that point in the story, unless you’re doing a major game change like LA was, but the world won’t feel real if its inhabitants ignore global-scale disasters. Or, if we’re talking construction vs. destruction, if they don’t comment on the new thing being built, or how nice it is to have enough food on the table again, something.

It might be nice to always have leaders and officers at the top as part of a revamped guild UI. But the function is there now at your discretion, just click the little arrow under Rank and it sorts by Rank instead of Name or Online, with top ranks at the top or bottom as you prefer by continued clicks. It’s like sorting the tables in any online chart.

True, but this is QoL suggestion. While you may be able to do that easily, having it just there, just makes it a bit easier. Just because it’s already there doesn’t mean there is no reason to change it. And seeing as this is a guild QoL and logistics CDI, this type of thing, I believe, fits right into that theme.

Oh, I agree! I think my tone didn’t come out right in text, sorry. I wasn’t saying you had a bad idea, just pointing out there was a current method to get the info as it wasn’t clear that was known.

Proposal Overview
Changing the guild roster UI to better reflect guild leaders/officers.

Goal of Proposal
Currently, when viewing the guild roster, members/representers/officers/leaders are all scattered across the roster. Having a “call out” section that displays the guilds officers/leaders to be able to quickly identify those people allowing for quicker and easier means of communication for inter-guild issues/questions.

Proposal functionality
The top portion of the guild roster player slots being reserved for leaders and officers, in a seperate and distinct area. For example: When viewing the guild roster, instead of showing the players name first, and the other guild members (presumably according to their log in times), a dedicated section displaying the guild leaders and officers is displayed first on that list.

Associated risks
None.

At launch, I wanted an alliance because my guild and another RP guild were in close collaboration on stories. With no custom chat channel, we had to join both guilds and then decide which chat to use for ooc coordination of scenes.

Sadly our guilds ended up at odds and went our separate ways. But that process was exacerbated by the difficulty in shooting the breeze with each other while still maintaining individual guild identity.

I no longer go into other guild chats, and hop back to my main guild as fast as I can after doing personal guild inventory management. There’s too much a feeling that I’ll be “missing” something in my main guild’s banter. I think the enforced one-chat-at-a-time feature may have shaped a lot of people that way and closed off some communities from forming.

So an alliance for me is a way to stay more socially connected. It’s a communications tool, and an RPer’s dream to let us have our theme guilds while still participating in a greater plot arc. But I could see it being very handy for ad hoc joining of forces for guild activities, and other benefits discussed in the thread above.

A good point was made a page or two ago that the chat system redesign (which I feel is needed at some point) should not become a roadblock to expanding guild communication possibilities.

But within the current system, maybe it would be possible to add more tabs? I’ve not tested this in a while but there did seem to be a limit on how many I could have, perhaps because of issues sliding them into place. A second tier of tabs wouldn’t use much more space. They could still go red when new posts are in them, and each should be configurable as to what channels show.

Thus one could have one’s five guild tabs (or whatever else one wants to put in the tabs) in a row sitting just atop the main row.

One thing I do love about the current chat system is that each tab actually “sees” all the chat, and so you can for instance toggle out whispers while screenshotting an RP scene, then toggle them back in. Plus even if you didn’t have whispers showing in any tab, you can turn them on to see what you missed. We should keep that.

Mini Proposal
Have guild chat persist through a character relog just as whispers and party do. This will help with continuity of discussion.

Many have suggested the different colored guild channels. I’m all for that (it’s made a similar idea in TESO super easy to use). I’d go one step further and ask that these colors be customizable by the player — that, in fact, all channels be color customizable. Even if we don’t get a huge gradient bar to choose from but only a set of, say, 10 colors, then we could set things to catch our eye in intuitive fashion.

With that, I’d ask for something TESO seems to lack: The ability to sort out your guilds in the order you want. In that game my first guild is one of my GW2 buddies and my second is my old WoW guild people. But my GW2 folks are back in GW2, not in TESO, so nothing ever happens in chat or the bank there — and still it insists on being my default opened guild panel. If only I could make the WoW folks my “G1” chat.

Being able to sort one’s guilds in the order one prefers for selecting a channel would rule. Or instead of /G1, /G2, you could type the guild tag? Though tags aren’t always unique. Thinky thinky thinky.

Type in the search window:
I am Evon Gnashblade
If you type it with caps like that, the item icons become smaller and you can see about 29 items per screen without scrolling instead of 8.

Does it have any other effect or just an icon resize? I don’t want to blindly type it in without knowing what it does. How do you toggle it back if you don’t like it?

Thanks for actually saying how to activate it, though, I’d previously only seen references to it.

Custom chat channels might help with communication issues. Let players create and name channels, then invite others to them. There are a host of problems with moderation issues and such, but had we had the possibility since launch, allied guilds would have been able to have a place to chat. RPers not guilded together could find a way to have ooc discussion along with the ic action. Interest groups could form.

That’s not a guild function, though, it’s a work around for a missing one that also has other uses.

True or not, if this was the case they would certainly deny it.

Oy vey. I just spent two decades as a criminal defense attorney. Even with judges steeped in “innocent until proven guilty,” the argument is still made by them and the prosecutors “You can’t trust the defendant’s testimony, of course he’ll say he didn’t do it.”

And then “now that you’ve convicted him, please give him a longer sentence for lying to you on the stand when he said he was innocent.” Hello, Fifth Amendment rights anyone? (Also ground my gears when they said “give him a longer sentence for wasting everyone’s time by exercising his right to a trial,” but that’s a separate issue).

Judge credibility via corroboration, via assessing the demeanor, via character evidence. Don’t do it just because you don’t want to believe the accusation is unjust.

Guys, guild halls will be in another phase of this CDI. They’re starting off with interface issues before going on to bigger topics.

Now, my next proposal. Yalora mentioned this above but buried with other cool ideas.

Proposal Overview
Make it very hard to leave a guild by accident.

Goal of Proposal
To prevent loss of personal guild banks and their contents, or guild leaders losing control of their guilds to a random member who then wrecks the guild. To prevent the tension involved in every rep swap when hopping to a personal guild for inventory management … “Will this be the moment I click the wrong button and lose it all?”

Proposal Functionality
- Move the Leave Guild button away from other frequently used buttons.
- Make the Leave Guild button obviously dangerous — perhaps make it red and octagonal shaped (though that is more a warning to US players, maybe, as it looks like a Stop Sign for drivers).
- Give a warning popup. If you are the sole member of the guild, “Warning: This will disband the guild and all items in the guild bank will be destroyed. Proceed?” If you are the leader, “Warning: You are stepping down from leadership and may not be able to return to your leader position. Proceed?” If you are a regular member, “Warning: You are leaving (Guild Name). You will no longer have access to guild benefits. Proceed?”

Associated Risks
Rearranging a UI can cause bugs. Popups can annoy some players. It could be hard to detect the leaver’s status to get the correct warning showing. There may be complaints about the aesthetics or the assumption the player is “too stupid” to know better than to leave the guild.

Gem store:

Style section

  1. [remains unsolved] In the style section, allow us to filter the armor by armor weight.
  2. [remains unsolved] Allow us to preview individual armor skins together with the rest of our outfit. (Right now, armor skins that are technically usable by all armor weights think that they are “heavy armor” so when I preview them with a character of medium or light armor class, they will always be naked in the preview. If I preview on a heavy armor class, they will always wear their armor.)
  3. [remains unsolved] Better yet, allow us to choose whether to preview the armor piece on our naked OR dressed character.
  4. [remains unsolved] For complete armor sets, allow us to preview specific pieces. Many of us buy armor sets to mix and match with our existing pieces and would appreciate if we could preview them and check for clipping, etc.
  5. [remains unsolved] Add dye channels to the preview, like the “normal” preview window has.
  6. [remains unsolved] Equally, the preview of weapon skins should have the same options as the normal preview, i.e. look at the weapon stowed, drawn, and on its own.
  7. [remains unsolved] It would be super awesome if we could zoom in to see detail.

I had a thought as I was reading this. Obviously items have item codes, and those are on the wiki so they aren’t verboten by ANet. While making all these revisions to the separate platform that is the TP/Gem Shop might be prohibitive, what about adding a button on the Style page that whispers the item codes to you? It’ll come out looking like the item names, same way as when people cut and paste codes from the wiki or Reddit, and you can preview them using the normal preview window with all its functions. Bonus: Whispers stay in chat on relog, so you can quickly view them on a number of alts in a row without having to revisit the interface.

edit: I mean it would whisper the code(s) of the currently viewed item or item sets only.

Is the cost of changing appearance high?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

To clarify, you need the skin unlocked in the Wardrobe, so you have to in some way bind the skin-item to you. So long as it remains tradeable to another player, you won’t have the skin.

Then you open your Wardrobe tab and click on the item you want to change while you have it equipped. You’ll see available skins at the panel’s left. Click one of those, you’ll see it change in the preview. At the upper right it will warn that making the change will use a charge, and show your total charges available. Confirm and poof, you have your new look!

Be advised the charges are account wide, not per character.

Proposal Overview
Remove suppression on mail between guild members (different from above proposals as I intend this to include sending items, not just messages).

Goal of Proposal
Allow guild groups to share cookies, food, potions for dungeon runs, to hand out prizes in guild contests, to give away piles of dye to guildies, to in general be able to be generous.

Proposal Functionality
Pretty much as described above. When sending items to guildmates actively representing in the same guild, suppression will not kick in even if you send twenty (random large number, don’t hold me to it) mails in succession each holding items.

Associated Risks
Gold sellers might find a way to get people in guilds for the purpose of mass-selling. Perhaps there could be a delay in access to the function, where someone must have been a member for a week, or even a month, with a certain amount of active rep time (during which time the seller could be banned and the guild dissolved if discovered). And handing out gold could be subject to normal suppression.

I’m with those saying to get it started (which I believe you’ve decided to do). As suggested above, have a moderator remove posts that have nothing to do with guilds (after prominently stating in the OP that this will happen).

CDI’s clearly are the start of brainstorming that will mean months before results show up in games, so setting it aside due to community discontent on an immediate concern will mean never getting to it or else delaying those results that much longer.

That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be communication on the matters igniting the forums … but we really can handle two idea streams at once. Really. At least those with enough insight to have CDI contributions can, and they’ll be the ones posting and not getting deleted, right?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I appreciate the ability to click the name of a custom emoter. However, the “immersion breaking” part of this comes from what the OP mentioned about RP integrating our characters into the world.

Doubling up the name gives the impression the character is describing his/her actions rather than doing them, and shifts the feeling over to watching people block out a scene to be acted instead of acting it. Like they’re reading the script.

Sort of like a certain Gotham Dark Knight who instead of saying “I’m Batman,” says, “Batman says ’I’m Batman.’” Or like those voiceover tracks on movie disks for the blind describing the action in flat boring tones.

I’m checking a few things out. So far I don’t think I’ve spotted anything not covered in the patch notes, but there are a couple of things that aren’t quite as you’d expect from the notes:

- Outfit dyes. Yes the dye scheme is saved, but you get one Outfit dye scheme that gets applied to all Outfits, so if you have different colors in mind for different ones you still must keep notes on the schemes you prefer. I think it’s still better than before, though I’d prefer each Outfit to remember its colors as armor pieces do.

- Special minis. This may be a bug. I’m unlocking the account bound specials such as the Infinirarium, but their slots remain in the bank. I suppose where I have multiples that’s a good thing — except the duplicates won’t go into the bank, so I’m just getting greyed out slots that will never fill.

edit: The slots don’t disappear immediately, but are gone if you close and re-open the bank.
