Aww, I wanted more bawdiness. This is more like you’re Kippling. (But well done, though I disagree with the sentiment).
Another CAREFUL to add! Make sure the orange item is NOT A PRECURSOR. It will say right there in the flavor text that it is.
Of course if you are checking the TP price before salvaging you will see that it is worth a ton of money and that should tell you not to salvage. Still, don’t rush too much on the salvaging that you could miss this. You’ll hate yourself.
Usually they are at one ticket until the next set is released. Or perhaps until another LS chapter hits, though the Leylines have lasted longer than 2 weeks. Maybe it’s 4 weeks at 1 ticket? There will likely be more sets released before Halloween but it never hurts to hold onto a ticket in case you really love the next set that comes out.
If you instead want to make money, you can watch the price trends and buy the one selling the best so you can list it on the TP. I am not the one to ask on the timing of that, however! There is some sort of curve in the prices based on how long the items have been available on the TP and when they go to 5 tickets.
Don’t panic too much about saving the tickets for the “perfect” skins, however. It’s nice if you have them ready when you want a skin, but you usually can buy the skin you want on the TP if you can muster the gold.
Once you’ve spent on some inventory space (truly the most useful thing you can ever get, sayeth me the Pack Rat), you might want to spend on looks. Check out the armor sets available in the Style tab. Not “outfits,” unless you like the entire look of the outfit, as you can’t mix pieces of it with other garb. (Though the outfit is account wide and free to swap to on any alt any time, but if you have more than one outfit be warned changing which one is active on the alt will wipe your dye choices). The armor will look a bit funky and dull thanks to the preview brown dye.
Some will tell you to wait on special appearances until you are 80 as it’s become significantly more expensive to swap looks around as you level. It all depends on how many gems you feel like flinging at cosmetics.
Avoid the boosters, black lion chests, dye packs, etc. You will get boosters over time from various sources and they aren’t that useful in general. They can’t be, as there is no pay-to-win in this game’s philosophy. The chests miiight have a ‘big ticket" item in them but mostly you’ll be spending money on lottery tickets with a low chance of payout. You can get many dyes for not much coin on the TP and start hunting the pricier ones later.
If they have an untypeable name thanks to weird ascii code letters you can get the invite function via right clicking them in the guild or friends panels. So you could add them temporarily to friends for the purpose of inviting them to the group.
I have no idea why the function sometimes doesn’t show up on the name in chat. I know that you can’t invite if they are grouped, but I generally get the option, then a little error popup that they are already grouped when I attempt the invite.
I’ve gotten through Omadd’s machine on three alts, and two of those have gotten through Duke Barradin. I figure I will always do the story first on my RP main, despite him being a squishy thief, and then on my dps guardian so I have the episode “banked” for when I feel like achieve runs, and I had an RP reason to run one of my mesmers through the Dry Top part so I did that and might zip him through the DR:1 just to keep him current. For relative values of “zip” as he hasn’t explored any of the relevant areas. By one’s 12th 80 the urge to see all the zones is rather reduced
Assuming the Pale Tree’s death, and a replacement growing … don’t you think it’ll take a couple of centuries to get the new one large enough to matter? A line from To His Coy Mistress comes to mind:
My vegetable love should grow vaster than empires, and more slow.
I resisted buying it because it was pretty much the last of my refund gems from all my ruined town clothes. But it’s the most adorable thing ever. I ponied up.
laughs
That was just one example. There’s trying to hand out food to PuG members in a dungeon — or even to guildies therein — when a bank isn’t handy. Or RP feasts out in the wilds but no, no soup for anyone past your first 2 attempts!
This is all a side point, however.
It seems to me that if it’s nighttime and I want to find daylight to see an outfit, it’s night wherever I go. At game start it was independently generated in each zone. In fact, when people were waiting for a fireworks event in LA that proc’d at “dawn” there were issues with figuring out when dawn would be in your instance, and heaven help you if you dc’d and came back in another.
So it’s striking me that maybe the megaservers have also snuck in a constant timeframe across all zones.
I do see a valid point that’s been sidelined in all this: the mail spam limit is ridiculously low. Suppressed on the third set of dyes I send to guildies when I listed dyes in gchat and asked who wanted which ones? A royal pain! I understand the need to throttle gold sellers but as has been noted many times by many people, it’s too harsh when it throttles legitimate interaction. Given that the only way to give something to a friend or guildmate is to mail it, we need to be able to mail it.
As to the TP tax and avoidance thereof: Well, in RL I’ve never kvetched about income taxes. I just figure 1/3 of my salary was never mine in the first place, and that employers offer the salaries they do in the understanding that not all of it will stay with the employee. If the government wasn’t taking 1/3, you’d get 1/3 less at the front end. And the government actually needs the money so you can have roads to drive on and parks to walk in and police to keep you safe …
Anyway, in the TP if you only get 850 gold on a 1K gold sale, then 850 gold is your profit and the other 150 never existed. It’s a mental trick that can save you many an ulcer.
You can play them in any order. The two restrictions are that the alt you are using must be 80 and you must have unlocked the chapter you want to play. You unlock it by either logging fully into game on any alt during the 2 weeks the chapter is active, or by paying 200 gems once the chapter is history. There is no deadline to play it once unlocked (other than possibly finding some parts harder if there aren’t a lot of other people in the area. Or easier, if too many people near causes bugs).
You can go for the achieves in the chapters whenever you like, so long as you have completed that chapter on the alt you are using for the achieves. Take the alt to the purple stars, not the green, to get achieve instances.
You can write a note, but what it does is edit the grey username. So for instance if I helped you with a JP using a mesmer alt, you could edit me in your list to “JPHelper” but then you’d never see the “Donari.” What I do is carefully remember the original name, and retype that with the extra note, e.g. “DonariJPHelper.”
A couple of addable symbols such as stars and circles might be of use to some people as well, so you can assign friends to certain categories. Even better: make it one of the sortable columns so you can one-click to get all the gold star people to the top regardless of their name or online status.
I was more giving RoyalPredator some possible starting points as s/he has shown a stellar ability to put looks together. I wasn’t even in game looking at the wardrobe -grins- I’m looking forward to how RoyalPredator meets the request, as I wasn’t even sure which of the fairly distinct gallery images you had in mind. I liked the greyish one most so I went with that.
The thing is that blocking doesn’t block their custom grey text emotes or their aoe special particles. One can ignore them for a while but when they start emoting about undressing you and licking your private parts … well, yes, they will be banned once the ticket is seen but it is rather annoying in the meanwhile, especially if you’re screen shotting the chat for posting on the guild forum.
It doesn’t matter that you don’t get it, RuneCrimson. RP isn’t for everyone and RPers aren’t going to force other people to do it. If you feel sticking purely with game mechanics makes more sense, more power to you. The issue discussed in this thread is how to deal with the immature idiots who think it’s fantastic to try to disrupt the fun others are having (and forcing them to move to get away from you is a disruption, should one person really be able to wreck the chosen location for a scene involving ten people?). Nothing you’ve said suggests you are such a jerk, so play on as you please
Oh dear. I’ve only done the current LS on one alt … I have 11 more 80’s, am I going to drown in those things like you are?
Lightsbane, I think you’ve misunderstood the opposition to spam because you’re not seeing any other use for map chat except for trading.
It’s used for idle banter at times, for coordinating zone fights such as in Dry Top, calling out events, asking questions about how to do certain things, finding help with a tricky vista, etc. If all these communications get drowned in constant WTB/WTS yammering, the social game experience suffers. Solution is a Trade Channel, perhaps? No dice, the would-be trader gets spammed away in that specified channel and trots over to the general chat tab to look for commerce and boom, we’re back to the Times Square Ad Blitz.
We don’t want to miss all the social stuff, so turning off the chat is not an option. Far better to not have trade spam in the first place.
Check out the stickies at the top of Players Helping Players. There are some excellent threads there to answer exactly that.
Plus it’s not all just standing around texting, RuneCrimson. I’ve had RP adventures using the world, such as going through Not So Secret all in-character as we used it as a way to heist an airship. My guild’s done Guild Rushes and Bounties ICly, the LA disaster and rescue attempts are canon (one guildie even had her character die to the miasma, permanently).
I’m more boggled that people don’t RP and still find things to do in the game. It adds such a dimension to the game, allowing for far more longevity of play. I’d never have made it 7 years in WoW without the rich braiding of stories my Horde guild offered — including an IC take-down of .. omg I forget names so fast .. the big end dragon in Cataclysm.
I’ve had long involved story arcs in every MMO I’ve played, from DaoC to Horizons to WoW to GW2 (and sidetrips to AoC, LotRO, Aion, Rift, etc). I’m far from alone in that — ha, I’d have to be, because you need a few others around you doing it too or the stories won’t happen.
Guest over to Tarnished Coast or Piken Square some time and just listen in the cities. Don’t grief, of course. But you’ll see a lot of stellar storytellers at work. And some of lesser skill, but we all start somewhere.
Well, keep trying for Tarnished Coast. I’ve heard we do get openings now and then. I know there’s another NA server with a smaller RP community on it; if you can find that one, and guest to TC, that can work. We have a fantastic new guild member who is actually not TC but simply travels to us.
Very well thought out. If the coding isn’t a nightmare, I beg ANet to make the block function completely delete the character from view and all chat/emote channels, as well as any LFG rosters. If we can’t see them, they can’t grief us. How sad they will be.
I do not weep for them.
It was in the Ready Up livestreams. Dulfy has summarized the streams at

Try asking in the bug forums or in the BLC forums. Also you can google for BLC/TP problems, as this is not a unique issue and people have posted a lot of possible fixes. If none of the simple steps work, submit a ticket to Support; they are very friendly and work hard to help solve these bugs.
I know that when mine wasn’t working for a week (I got all the frame and tabs, but the main part of the panel was brown with a spinny circle endlessly, um, spinning), it turned out I had a corrupted cache and the only answer was to make a second Win7 account with admin privileges and launch the game from there. Fortunately enough I was planning to get a new computer anyway and the new one didn’t have the problem.
I blame the corruption on something I tried to load — a simple desktop clock widget to replace the one that vanished from Win7, and suddenly it installed this giant weather tracking module and no clock, a real stinker to uninstall, too. The next day my TP window failed. The BLC window is its own separate little program, hence its ability to be corrupted while the rest of the game works.
Sometimes I think people get happier with professions they level later, once they know the basic game mechanics better. I started with and mained thief, but I find it much less useful/fun in PvE than I do, for instance, mesmer. And mesmer was maybe my 5th profession to really work on.
Still, you can’t get much roguier in this game than thief
Get ready to get merged.

edit: Oh look, it happened.
(edited by Donari.5237)
Check to see if guildies are on, and if so if they want to RP or do dungeons or whatever. We have a couple of semi-scheduled RP evenings a week as well. Right now I’m slowly gathering Foxfire Clusters by rotating a bunch of 80’s through Orr, leveling an asura necromancer via the daily, and pondering taking more alts through the PS for chest keys so I can see what I find in buried chests. I’ve already got my exploration gold star on two characters, so I’m not doing that any more, thenk hew verra much. I sometimes page through the wardrobe considering new looks. Yeah, the game’s not sucking up my time as it did at the start, but then it wasn’t designed to require every waking moment to keep up with it.
When I need a break I work on TESO, as I haven’t reached level cap there yet, or peruse forums or just play solitaire games. Or clean up the house or go visit friends … I’ve only just resigned/retired and the slow pace is feeling soooooo good. I’ve even bought GW1 so my guildies can walk me through HoM point stuff (so far I’m just barely into the Searing).
Yes, but not usually within an hour of filing the ticket. (I’m sort of surprised I got a reply to one today in under 2 hours when it wasn’t urgent, but then, it was a boilerplate reply telling me to watch their official sites because they have no info on a tshirt proposal that .. was on an official site over 2 years ago …. ).
I’m not sure they work late at night, either, but given it’s you trying to pay them money, you should hear from them by tomorrow via email.
Sort of an aside, when do you see TC open up? A guildie of mine just got her dad playing, but they never found an opening to get him on our server. Having some idea of a pattern of opening would help a lot.
Did you submit a ticket? That’s how we got refunds. They had threads detailing when to send the tickets, how to label them, everything.
I haven’t heard so many using “clan” for their guild, but why not? A “guild” connotes a group come together for commerce of various sorts. “Guild” is just the game’s term for the mechanic by which players form communication and perqs groups. ICly the characters might call themselves any sort of thing. What if they’re playing an extended family? My parents and my sibs aren’t my guild, they’re my family. Which could be a “clan.” I’d think Norns would be more likely to have clans than guilds, as well.
My own game guild is a group of entertaining adventurers originating from a set of traveling players. So for the most part we call ourselves a “troupe.”
One caveat, you have to be 80 to play Season 2. However, if you have it unlocked you can play it once you get to 80, however long that takes.
No, it’s a fine thing. There’s an in game tool designed to help you find people to group with when you don’t have 4 friends handy. The only problem is that some of those people are jerks who will try to tell you that you suck for not doing things exactly how they think they should be done.
The tool is on your Friends panel, one of the left hand tabs. It won’t let you form dungeon groups until you are high enough level, but I believe will work for open world needs. Don’t worry about it for now; my caution was for the future.
I’ll chime in with a couple of pieces for that, nichol. I’m not trying to replace the OP, I just got interested in this request. I’m looking at the gallery image in your link, second picture, the grey armor on a white background.
I’d say heavy armor. For the chest, how about either the Avenger’s or Temple? And the legs look like Priory or the many Lionsguard-style items. Boots, hmm, Vigil or Honor of the Waves give you thigh highs. Any number of gloves will work; take a peek at Zodiac, maybe?
Shoulders and helm, meh. The OP can likely figure something out, Dredge ones not being quite right imo.
These are only some ideas from looking at Argos, I haven’t gone in game as the OP does to really tweak it.
Hurray! It’s wonderful you got that boost and have so much more world available to you now. Remember your Samaritan if you ever run into trolls, griefers, or have to deal with some of the PuG people in LFG. Because I think this game has a lot more helpful than harmful people.
Also if you encounter specific difficulties such as a vista you just can’t reach, a story dungeon you can’t find a group for, etc, feel free to post in this forum. Make sure to say if you are NA or EU. Generally someone will respond pretty quickly and offer you assistance.
As I recall the big uber boss in the finale event for the first Beta Weekend was a little rabbit that wiped out zergs. I wasn’t able to stay up for the event myself, as it was 3 am my time on a work night, but I saw screenshots.
I’m pretty sure it was a rabbit, anyway.
It sounds like a bug to me; every makeover I’ve done has looked like what I expected. Did you happen to take screenshots of the preview so you can show how dramatically different the result was?
You certainly should submit a ticket, in my opinion. Don’t worry about it not being a “pressing issue.” Support is full of friendly people that have been most helpful on my few tickets. If you don’t want to impose you can just put a line in your ticket that you understand they’re busy and you can wait until they have time for you. I bet they’ll appreciate that
When was that map generated, before or after that undocumented patch we got recently? I had been considering going to scope out the waypoints to see if the patch changed any of them.
You left out the rapidly-renewable mesmer phantoms and clones. I mesmered my way through Orr today in a search for foxfire, and seldom had to fight anything beyond tricking it with a fake me.
Or at least you might, Brother Grimm. I opened 25 chests today (actually, 27, 2 keys dropped from the 25). Usually I’d get more kits but I only got one hair kit. Ah well, such is RNG.
The sad part is I opened them all not long before the patch that likely put in the increased claim ticket chance.
I’ll agree. I haven’t bought much in the way of finishers, just the angel wings, wizard, and dragon. But when I rarely find a Toxic Spore and kill Toxic Alliance, I get slightly grumpy if someone else gets off the finishing move before I do, I want to see my dragon in action
Especially if they just have the default little black stick … c’mon, lemme entertain you with a fireworks dragon.
I bet it was the Black Lion Claim thing … grrrrrrr … I bought and used 25 keys a couple of hours before the patch. Though I did get a ticket, and a few scraps. Still, I made the assumption that if they hadn’t done anything special to discount keys by the middle of Wednesday, there was no reason to wait any longer for a shot at a permanent hair kit.
(Surprise, I did not get a permanent anything! The nearly 2-year record remains unbroken!
)
Anyone noticed the that the mouth plant flower(Mordem Thraser maw) appears right in the location where Omadd’s machine is?
Is it? I personally focused more on the point that where ever the Mordem Trasher rose up there was also a waypoint.
Nah he didn’t rise up where Omadd’s machine is. That’s the new area we’ll be going to. You can check it out the new area by doing a little jumping puzzle.
I’ll take your word for it but if it’s not the Machine, it’s exactly the same architecture with blue-barred entrances on each side. Have you seen such a thing in the new area?
My human guardian with his new ley line staff (no, not a primary use weapon, I promise) and a mix of T3 chest and legs and Phalanx everything else. Colors are primarily Glacial Sky and White Gold, with Pottery for the belt.
Some time back I ran into a group in DR doing a Scooby Doo episode. They looked the parts. I have screens … somewhere … but I’m out of time today to page through all my shots trying to track down that set. Perhaps later this week I can get it, along with the chat logs of their ghost hunt.
Even that variant would repulse a lot of players who are in this game specifically because they can get everything without paying a dime if they’re willing to spend time in game to get it.
Every time this notion comes up, the following very good response is made (I’m surprised it’s not in this thread yet):
If you want to support ANet and get extra things like boosters from the gem store, please do. You can budget yourself x dollars per month and buy gems, thus simulating a subscription.
But if you want to be able to buy things that will give you in game advantages, you’re in the wrong game. (Faster Ascended crafting, unlimited BLC openings, extra cash from repeating dungeons — not dungs, really, are you flinging feces? — all these translate into a ton more buying power in game. If that’s what you want, just straight up buy gems and sell them for gold).
I support the idea of an account unlock for achieves. If you want the rewards, then do the green star version, but if you want the achieves, do the purple. The achieve points and completion will be one time, after all, no matter what alt does them, so why must an alt do the whole story twice to go for the achieve?
I don’t mind doing the story several times for rewards, I like trying out the fights with various professions. However, I do mind being required to do it before I can do a protect-NPC achieve with a guardian, a sneak-by-without-fighting with a thief, etc.
I saw him on my second run through when I was freeze framing to look for details. Seeing him does not necessarily mean commenting on him when the discussion is about the lights going out and Taimi’s apparent fear.
(Which doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be commented on, just that he didn’t naturally come up in conversation until now).
Why don’t the moderators do something about these duplicate threads?
Can’t this topic just be buried in the suggestions forum where it belongs?
There is no suggestions forum. Suggestions are now to be posted in the forum most germane to it where the relevant devs can find it. The old suggestions forum was archived quite a long time ago.
I suppose they could reactivate the suggestions forum with subforums for each area of the game, e.g. Living Story, WvW, Dungeons, and a catch all for This Will Not Happen In This Game to hold mounts, open world ganking, gear treadmills, gear inspect, damage meters, etc.
And DaoC and LotRO. At least LotRO left you will all your furniture, in a chest in a real estate broker’s office, but your prime lakeside estate nestled among your guild mates? Gone. DaoC, it all just poofed after I took a 4 week break. Guess what? That break became permanent (ok, so the completely horrible Trials of Atlantis where you died just taking two steps, and my guild moving on, those were big factors. But losing my carefully furnished house that I had camped out the plot for didn’t help).
