The problem I see is the same one WoW had in allowing flying in the old zones — the world isn’t designed to be seen from the air. Mountains don’t have backs unless you can get around them on foot. Landscape has gaps. So even with every safeguard in the world to prevent exploits from “flying” the mere movement of the viewpoint further out than a body can fall from a height is likely not technically possible.

You assume that housing will in fact be cookie cutter. ANet tossed out a lot of other expected MMO “inevitabilities” such as kill-stealing, node-stealing, the trinity … and they did it by saying “What isn’t fun in a game? Let’s get rid of that.” Assuming they apply said philosophy to housing, they could very well wow us.

Well ok, I did leave out the new UI step but I’m pretty sure when I opened my 15 chests recently I didn’t have to do a zillion clicks for each one, just hit the Open Another button on the UI.

I would guess thousands of players want the option to swap their hair around regularly, as there are thousands of RPers. Fancy party? Time for a posh bun with gems! Stuck in the swamp duking it out with Inquest? Bring on the dirty tangle!

But it would have to be offered in line with armor sets and outfits.

I don’t think I’ve bought any kits directly, thanks to drops from chests and dailies. But I’ve been super sparing with using the ones I have, actually applying a new look only when it really is much better for the character than what I had before. If I could buy a permanent kit, I’d be very very very happy — that doesn’t mean I’m going to put up thousands of gold for it.

You can double click the key or the chest so long as both are in your bags. Then you double click on the newly created unlocked chest to get the stuff.

Thanks for noting that, TheDaiBish. In that case I’ll join the “they’ll move the zone name as the map expands” bandwagon.

Ah, but there are not really achieves tied to the PS. I don’t mind playing the story fully through on an alt that would ICly go through it. In fact, I’d choose to go through again, maybe selecting some different dialogue options if possible, in order to have another alt’s perspective on how it went.

Yet the brain behind the alt is the same brain for each one and I want to spend my time exploring the new stuff, not rehashing things solely for the purpose of using a better built profession for achieving. Moreover, once I’ve gone through it for the sake of my main experiencing the story, it reduces the effect for him to be able to just return. If he can, why can’t an alt of mine?

I figured it had been a while since I did keys and I still have a ton of refund gems from the town clothes mess. So here’s the results from 15 chests:

Thus well over 1K gems worth of items if I were inclined to buy all those things. I am not. Of those things I would buy on the store at need if none dropped in game, let’s see, the two style kits and the transmutation charges, those are 720 gems in value. Though I do actually use the armor and strength boosters and revive orbs in dungeons, as well as repair kits (less of those now that repairs are free anyway).

I use the expresses when I feel like it, not often. I already know all the non-exclusive dyes (tossed a Hot Pink on the TP from the Red Patch).

I’d say I don’t feel ripped off by what I got.

To elaborate, Kessex used to have a lot more trees. Then they got mysteriously logged, and the water held a force field we couldn’t enter. Kasmeer broke the illusion around this to reveal a very high Krait tower filled with Toxic Krait and Toxic Alliance (Nightmare Court). It kept sending out spores to surrounding zones. Eventually intrepid adventurers made their way to the top and fought Scarlet’s monstrous hybrid in order to get a special antitoxin injected into the tower, which blew it up, leaving debris all over the zone.

The whole zone might not be called “Dry Top.” That’s the current name for the section we’re in. Maybe it’ll become a white name for the area with a beige zone name centered in the overall map?

Have you been planting the seeds to help with defense? It’s sort of plants vs. zombies. Gairwen will give you the seeds, you plant them to the south to block the waves.

I was very happy with how I could dye the goggles, and ok with the mask being one dye field. So I put the things together to get a face mask to help my poor thief who has lungs ravaged by CoF and LA miasma and is dying in Dry Top as a result (yes, I RP this, and spent gold on TP getting the pieces for the sake of RP) …

But the goggles strap shares a dye field with the face cloth, so if I want a white face cloth to simulate pulling up his Rubicon coat’s scarf, the strap becomes a ridiculous white. Why not give us 4 dye fields so we can match the completed set to the original 2 pieces?

I had that problem a while back, Support worked tirelessly with me for over a week on it. The final semi-fix was to create another Win7 account and run the game on that as it seems something had corrupted my registry. It was a royal pain since the second account didn’t have any of my wallpaper or desktop icons and I had to pick whether I would get all my regular computer stuff OR have TP access. Luckily I was already planning to buy a new computer … and with a fresh install of everything on that, the TP problem went away.

But if you are desperate for TP use (as I was, my bags were clogging up to unplayability), try the second account, also run it as Admin.

I don’t mind locking the achieves until a second cherry pick run where you pick which part to do. I do mind locking them to alts. Once I’ve seen the story, it should be my choice whether to do the whole thing again or not. Had I known this lockout would happen, and what the achieves involved (hard to know before the first run through), I would not have used my RP main to do the story as he’s ill-suited to many of the achieves. This despite my always starting LS content on him as he -is- my story main.

Once I’ve gotten the lore and experienced the tale, I should be able to go in on an alt to work on the achieves. The rewards can be tied to playing it through on green and not offered on purple, that’s fine.

Since you’re just about never on your actual server now, how on earth could they display a local server?

I simply leave my clock on -my- local time (Eastern). Since they announce ANet event stuff as happening Pacific time anyway, I can add 3 hours to it to know my own time and there’s no other math involved.

I found that the sun crystal failed unless I waited for the pulse of the shield to go off. If I hit 2 the moment I had a clear view of Aerin, it worked every time.

Don’t use the image code, use the “more options” below the post and attach an image. You just upload (you don’t have to put it on Imgur or any such) and this site then has it. If you Preview and do that again, you can add another image, and another, and another.

This has been done before (and is a fun thing). I have one guildie who got into the level 40’s before dying on one attempt, I believe. His best death was in the first few attempts when he misjudged a jump off a cliff.

There really truly isn’t sustained group heals. I understand that Water Elementalist does pretty well at it. I myself use a support Guardian in dungeons with the heal Elite. It’s only every 3 minutes, and it takes 5 seconds of uninterrupted channeling to cast, but when it goes off and every health bar goes to full I feel pretty darn good.

Less good when someone gets downed 1/2 second before it goes off, of course, and I can’t rez while the elite is active (channeling or not) so I look like a jerk if someone’s lying at my feet.

She’s not just for heals. She’s for boons, stability, aegis, condition removal, all the protections, and some minimal dps. If you focus on heals as your main thing you’ll be dragging your team down.

Race should be immaterial unless you want the minimal heal edge a sylvari healing turret gives (I think — I’ve seldom bothered with any racial skills as they are designed to be weaker than class skills).

The starter color doesn’t matter at all. I think in the original implementation it would be your default colors on any new gear you equipped, but the way it works now is a new item takes its colors from what you have on at the time you swap to it.

The moment you arrive in the tutorial, you can change your dyes freely from those you have at the start, and any time at all you want to change them with new dyes you can. Plus dyes are account wide, so when you learn a new dye on one alt, every alt for the rest of your life will have that dye for free.

I’ve been on TC since beta and I think I’ve spotted one, maybe two furry ERPers in all that time. Whereas I’ve seen hundreds if not thousands of moments of people doing crime investigations, IC adventuring in dungeons and world events, socializing in taverns, reeling with shock from LA, having costume contests and zone explorations, etc etc etc.

OP, I hope you can get in. I hear from a guildie that TC just hit T1 in WvW (we tend to bounce between bottom of T1 and top of T2) and that promoted a big influx. Most of whom don’t RP and go out of their way to insult those who do (hurray for Block and Report!).

Question: Not that I’m a fan of the idea at all, or sure what the point of it is besides zerg busting, but would you consider making it something that cannot spread in cities? Or griefers could go wreck up on people crafting, banking, TP’ing, or RP’ing.

RP happens not only in cities, however. So how do you protect people who are grouped up to socialize and don’t really need a plague zombie running up to make them scatter out of their scene?

Or those gathering to fight a world boss? There’s limited safe spots near the Tequatl fight thanks to the fish heads.

Is that why I’m not getting the achieves? I did the story last night on my thief. Today I’m repeating on my guardian to get shorter fights and less dying. I’ve successfully defended the 2 workers and destroyed all four Inquest equipments (the latter just a few minutes ago, after which I searched the forums for bug listings on it and found this thread) and neither No One Left Behind nor No Rock Unturned has shown credit even though the achieves show as unlocked in my panel.

I did destroy the last 2 equipments after completing that part of the story, so possibly that’s why on that, but I know the 2 seraph lived, I stuck to them like glue (unless they die later during the golem fight? I don’t think that’s how that works, though).

It’s a technical problem, actually. Something in the core design of the armor means that if you mix armor weights the textures and even colors go blooey all over. They’d have to re-create every single piece under a new graphics system to let people wear other weights and that hasn’t been a priority.

Except the purpose of crafting essences is simply to consolidate them to fewer clicks. Afaik there is no other use for luck but to click and use up. The craft option was put in after all the complaints about the multiple clicks needed. Given a use-all drop down, available in inventory without getting to a crafting station on your artificer, you wouldn’t -need- the artificer work around.

I like this idea.

Mesmer is by far my favorite to play, and Elementalist my least favorite. That could be because I had an Ele at launch and was clueless enough about game mechanics in general to be super squishy, or because I went with staff when dagger/dagger is more exciting … regardless, I have 1 Ele and 3 Mesmers at 80, with 2 of the Mesmers RP’d quite a bit.

I’m not a twitch reflex player, never have been, so I prefer the complexity level of the Mesmer. Note: I do PvE nigh exclusively, with only toe-dips into WvW and no sPvP ever. That said, I know the mesmers in my guild were living through Subject Alpha without a single death while the rest of us wiped out repeatedly back at the beginning when no one knew about stacking or the lack of need to dodge out of his red rings … I’m always glad when there’s a mesmer in my dungeon run (my dungeon main is my support guardian).

Ahhh, the OP meant small flying bird things, not GW2 raptors which are the size of a human. Gotcha.

I’ve directly seen two times where disease was put in an MMO. So much griefing. SO MUCH. The intent was that the players had to work together to stop the disease. Instead, it became impossible to do anything in cities or anywhere else the griefers could find groups of people to deliberately infect.

Maybe ANet could find a way to make it fun to have any other player’s approach to you trigger paranoia and the need to log out, but I can’t think of one.

As I understand it, they only dropped during the first Wintersday. I’m amazed there are any available for sale at all, though the amount they’re on the TP for when they show up is prohibitively expensive enough that perhaps the sellers just haven’t set the price low enough in 1.5 years to make the profit of which they dream …

I think they’re just good friends. It’s certainly possible for opposite gender pairs to have zero romantic feelings while still experiencing deep friendship. Happened to me in college, as a matter of fact, and when a fellow student summed up her courage to tell me she was dating my friend she boggled at my ecstatic happy declaration that he really needed someone … because folks just had to assume he and I were dating simply because we were male and female.

So I’m pleased to see Rox and Braham being such good buddies -without- heading into furry territory.

These days you don’t even need an external site. Just go to your bank and open the wardrobe tab to test out all the armors and weapons. Use the TP to pick out some dyes you want to try if you don’t like how the preview uses your current dye set.

That does mean actually using a character slot to make the alt to test the looks on, but if you don’t like the result you can delete the alt without any resources invested but a bit of time.

On a complete aside, why can I reply in this forum’s threads but not in General or Forum Bugs? I’ve been trying to tell someone in General that there IS a /w sound, audible in Dulfy’s Wizard Finisher video at 9 seconds in, but it simply says “this area is not yet available, try going back home.”

I bought my Cat Tonic before they nerfed the duration (I think they did, anyway, I remember it lasting longer at first. Certainly there was a nerf to prevent you from swapping from cat to cat without becoming bipedal in between). It was my very first laurel purchase and almost no one had one at the time.

Then it bugged so using it hard crashed the game … that sort of ended my frequent use anyway as I still don’t trust it.

But yes, 15 minutes and toy use would make sense on something that takes 100 days of grinding to get (less time when monthlies are involved, true). Also there’s no reason for RNG choice of form, please get rid of the “mystery” part. Let us decide if we want to be a tiger or a lion or a little baby cat.

Both selected by the gw2roleplayers site pre-beta. They are not official RP servers. And it’s nigh impossible to get clumped with other server “natives” anyway unless and until the megaservers get smarter about how they mix people.

I don’t actually know if guesting still works. If so, you don’t need gems to hang out on the RP server, you just need to be lucky enough to land in an instance of it that has a critical mass of natives.

Looks like the CDI did have a big impact, along with ongoing discussions in the LS subforum. A lot of this Journal implementation sounds like a response to suggestions and concerns aired over time by the community.

A question I have is, can you invite friends in to experience your unlocked content if they have not also unlocked it? And can they get achieves and rewards by riding your coat tails? Or is this a matter of not only finding someone that wants to do the step you’re on, but has him/herself opened it?

It disappeared in the April 15th patch. No explanation has been forthcoming.

Are you on NA? If so, and you see me on, I can hook you up with guildies that just love to run dungeons and don’t care about speed clearing. I’ll even go along to help!

The only problem is I may not be on since I’ve been super ill these past few days, have a ton of work to do this week, and then will be on travel for 2 weeks without an MMO playing device.

So maybe you should post in LFG “Arah Story, 1st time run” and see who joins. It could work well for you!

As it happens, my guardian IS my pve main. My thief is my RP main. But for pure pve fun, it turns out I love mesmer most of all. Weapon choice really affects how they play, clones and phantasms require attention but not micromanagement, and they have so darn many survival tricks even when downed … I have 3 mesmers at 80, 1 each of thief, ranger, elementalist, and engineer, and 2 of everything else.

My RP may lean heavily to my thief and my two guardians, and my dungeoning calls for my defense guardian, but for roaming around the world in general pve it’s turned out I just want a mesmer.

Reikou, how did you get rid of the giant club hand the cook’s outfit has? Like in Dustfinger’ kitten above? Does the gloves toggle work on outfits the same way the helm toggle does? If so, hallelujah. I was using Cook’s for my guardian’s townclothes before the system got wrecked, but that giant mallet on the forearm wasn’t right.

I’d post this in the audio subforum, as it is chock full of people posting tunes for the various instruments and willing to help work out new tunes. Plus they have a standardized notation.

I wasn’t going to buy it, but as I had a ton of refund gems from all my ruined town clothes I figured it looked nice enough to toss some of those at it. The dye fields are a little wonky on guys, especially how the shoe color links in. I think others in this thread have done better on the male outfit dyes than I have, but I just spent some time customizing almost all my alts in Ancestral. Almost because I love the Cook’s on my norn female too much to have to reset the dye job due to swapping outfits. Anyway, here’s a lot of front shots of how the dye affects the look (Dulfy already did great turnarounds to show the outfit itself). Sorry the shoes don’t show in Character Selection, this was the fastest way to get shots in good lighting.

I’d go with staff necromancer, actually. That’s almost pure AoE. Use the intermediate fast-cast ground targeting to get a big green circle where stuff will hit and go to town. With fear and frost, you can keep the mobs from getting to you so much. I don’t dodge very much on my staff necro (nor do I PvE with her a ton, her bags are too full of clothing to really go out and about). But I’ve leveled 2 necros to 80 and while I can’t say I -never- dodge — this game really needs you to dodge now and then — I think I dodge the least on them out of all professions.

I never ask tips for portals. Sometimes someone gives me one anyway, but that’s on them. Nor do I set up shop atop a JP to go for tips — if I happen to have gotten to a JP top ankitten ot in a rush, I’ll announce in map that I’m willing to give out ports for a few minutes and generally a few people show up to use them.

I figure those that want the challenge of beating it themselves won’t use the portal, and those that just need to achieve the puzzle will be happier and less frustrated by life.

Uh …. they -were- town clothes. For years. Then on April 15 everyone that had town clothes got tonics to replace them.

No, the tonics aren’t useful even for RPers. RP takes longer than the 15 minutes a tonic lasts. RPers like to dye their outfits, use select pieces with other pieces, all sorts of things to customize.
