It seems unlikely the karka will still roam freely over Southsun after tomorrow’s event is complete. It’s all about fighting them off and taking back the island, after all. So they should be hard — it’s expected zergs will be flooding across the map during this weekend, and whatever’s left behind once the events are concluded will hopefully be tuned for smaller encounters.

The events are just this weekend, the island and puzzles will remain. There is a red post stating so. You have days, weeks, months to play with the puzzle!

I failed miserably at clock tower. And I couldn’t do this one .. until I saw the video showing how to go in from the water. Even then I failed over and over until one of our group swapped to a mesmer. At which point I somehow jumped up with the mesmer and got to the ship that very go. The rest of it was simple, once done with the timed jumps onto temporary tiny platforms.

Even if I’d never been able to get up it (like Clock), I’d still applaud ANet for putting it in. It’s a pretty piece of artwork and a clever mechanic for jumping through. It’s purely optional to do, too, not being a gate to anything else or the sole source of some mega super gear.

In RL and in game, I’m pretty good at some things. I’m pretty terrible at others. ANet is doing a great job of putting in a wide variety of things, and not being able to master every single one of them makes it that much more immersive for me. Especially since the hardest bits are just there for the challenge for those that want a challenge!

I have only seen it once, with a guild group, 4 of us on Mumble, one of us having seen it before. We fumbled a time or two, then our Mesmer got the idea to put a portal up midway back to the target spots. Three of us grabbed wisps, jogged to the portal, zap, we were at the target, victory!

Ok, so the first time the destination portal was right by the targets so hitting F ported me back instead … but then it worked.

It still felt easier than some of the wacky jumping ones or freeing the colossus. Fractals have only been here for 2 days, and will be here for the long term, so expecting perfect playing of them at this point is a bit silly. A touch of patience. That’s all you really need to avoid stress and ulcers over things that just won’t matter to you in a while.

Problem with this I found. You can dodge forward twice so the steam misses. So basically jump halfway through, dodge steam, and then jump on rock platform. Basically skips the need to jump on those rocks till you reach the second half of the steam powered platforms lol.

That’s not making sense to me. How do you dodge from little rock platform to little rock platform? I’m not getting past the first 4 floating rocks at the very bottom, mind you. But dodge just droppeed me in a cauldron, so clearly I misunderstood something.

Mystic Forge is always more than I want to deal with. Besides, you can get the skins for karma and exotics for cheaper coin expense, so this isn’t the only chance to get them, and 250-use gathering tools are nice but not vital.

I try not to go to guides until I’ve done all my own experimenting (didn’t touch a cooking guide until I got to 400), but with the Forge I’m happy to let others spend the mats.

Next weekend is Thanksgiving weekend. I hope the ANet staff can have a chance to do family stuff. I’ve seen far more bollixed mass events in other games, with far less concern over fixing things.

So I haven’t killed a single karka yet (those things are invisible to me so far), and I do want to get my monthly done. Eh! I think what has been done is amazing and I trust ANet to help those who got blocked by bugs, as they did with the ongoing Witch Hat and with extending events in the past.

Patience. Good things will come in time.

Yes, I got the cheapest daggers for commendations and transmuted them onto my level 80’s. Then I got the pistols for karma and did likewise. Any further commendations go to my alts with less karma to burn.

I’m enjoying things, even bugged. I don’t expect perfection in anything and certainly don’t feel entitled to it.

For those of you complaining about Canach, you need to talk to him after he yields, then look at your mailbox. Remember that you might have to wait 5 minutes for him to activate if he was just defeated. For Fahd, once he is beaten and gives his little speech, loot the chest. I didn’t see any need for Krait patrols, though I might have missed them in some spam effects. For both of them, make sure you “tag” him. Unload a ranged weapon in his face a lot!

Tarnished Coast, 11 am EST, both were completable.

The vendor npc is by the ex-fountain in Lion Plaza. You tell her you have something to turn in and she opens the vendor window. It has Lionguard weapons, all very lovely imo, and you can get them for level 25, 40, 60, or 80 exotic depending on how many commendations you spend. Just wanting the skins? 25 commendations each, I now have two wonderful daggers via commendations + transmute.

Ah ok! Yes, I just didn’t know her name. As to reselling things higher, I guess that’s endemic to any game market (or any RL market, even). Sometimes people will knowingly pay more just to save a trip to the vendor themselves.

What kind of item is it and who is “Myiani?” I ask not so I can buy/sell as described, but because I love seeing new items.

Also, I always thought it was con-sorsh-ee-um (with the ee sort of swallowed and short — con-sorsh-mm), not con-sort-ee-um.

Well, I never got anything exciting in the Halloween chests, and even doing MK and Labyrinth netted me exactly 1 exotic. Today I used my November gem allowance to get maybe 12 chests and 5 dye packs. My first 10 chests got me a sharktooth sword, hello 7 g on TP. Then a European guildie who can’t buy gems right now due to a TP European issue wept, and I bought a chest to open for her. Another sword! She seemed happy No, I’m not saying “hey, they are easy to get.” I just happened to be on the good side of the RNG god this go round, as I so seldom am. Still, my miniscule empirical experience is that things do drop in the chests.

Apparently the skins and items will also drop off monsters on Lost Isle, so there will be non-cash ways for chances at them.

As I understand the term, it simply means that there is better gear out there that you have to get to beat the newer content. Better stats = stronger characters. Then when everyone gets that gear, even better stuff has to be introduced. The gear treadmill.

The complaints come from people (such as myself! Though I have not actually posted a complaint because I think this is not going to be what people think. For all we know it will only have better stats while in the Fractal) who love GW2 for -not- having a gear grind, for having a design philosophy against the grind, and feel that any such higher statted gear coming in is at least the start of vertical progression.

It’s not like the heirlooms. Those scaled to level so you could give them to your new alts to “twink” them. Ascended is billed as a tier between Exotic and Legendary and likely will have a level requirement and bind on equip.

I can tell you the coat is Stalwart’s Jerkin, but I got it so long ago I don’t recall if it was from a PS or what.

You can also transmute them onto another armor piece, so if you get an upgrade you can pick which look and stats you want, and slide the rune over to the new-made item.

RP is in fact the answer. Tarnished Coast is the unofficial RP server and you run into RP everywhere. My guild has a guiding principal that RP trumps other game activities — not that we’re slacking on the PvE or even WvW, depending on which of us you look at — and we have robust storylines going on. Some of our stories started before BWE1 with RP on our guild site.

Just tonight we had a wonderful gathering at the Crow’s Nest. We’ve also done dungeons and exploration ICly, used some of the PS tales as springboards to our own stories, and have ongoing plans to put on plays and such. Our members include a lot of average-Joe characters, and no one really super powered. The PS isn’t canon to the characters, though bits of it might be. Donari does have a broken amulet as the only clue to his real parents, for instance. But they aren’t the ones the PS sets up.

I’d love the game to pay attention to the choices I’ve made, the traits I’ve chosen. I’d love it to give each of my alts a uniquely tailored story. I just know it can’t be done along with everything else the game has to do to function as an MMO. -shrugs- RP fills in the gaps. GW2 has so much fodder for the RP; the canvas of the world is lush and detailed, the lore easy to access. Why demand that it do everything for you?

The Inquest helm that you get for tokens from dungeon runs is basically a ninja hood (at least on a male Human). You can preview it by going to the dungeon vendor in Lion’s Arch. It’s a rounded close fitting hood with a full nose/mouth covering mask.

If you want just a hood, the thief starting option hood is pretty much it. You can use the transmutation trick to get it onto higher level gear. I have not tested it myself but many have posted that if you deleted it or never had it, you just make an alt, transmute the hood onto a white item, then have your main pick it up from the bank and transmute it onto your statted gear.

Oy. I had no idea that was happening since the easiest way I’ve found to mail is to right click the name in chat or in the guild roster and click Mail To. Each and every time. I don’t even try to type the name in the box, given how long and elaborate names can be in this game.

Anyway, until they fix it, I suggest doing it the way I just described, and always flicking a glance over the To line before hitting Send.

This is great. The only thing I’ve found so far in the world that relies on your chosen personality is by Eastern Divinity kittenake a Ferocious character there and talk to people. Something very amusing happens. I’m sure if there is one thing, there are more, but making it change the idles would be wonderful.

There was already a thread on this. If one couldn’t gather in combat, Orr nodes would be nearly impossible to get.

I haven’t seen any griefing at all associated with it. Gathering takes maybe 2 seconds and doesn’t deny the node to anyone else, so you can take a moment to get the node then jump on the mobs to let another person break away to gather.

GuzziHero: You can just apply the new rune or sigil to the item. It will give you a prompt warning you the old one will be destroyed. Say ok and bingo, you have the new rune/sigil without having burned a transmute.

Grinding on monsters is the -worst- way to get XP. There’s almost no return on it. It’s a little better if you find a patch of mobs no one else has hit lately, as then you get bonus xp. Still, you’re far better off doing what the others have said. Explore the towns and starter areas, gather mats, and if you are bored with the DEs in Queensdale, use the free travel paths to go see what’s in the other starter zones.

You don’t even have to run to the gate in Divinity Reach’s park. You can click on the crossed swords on the icon list in the upper left, Go to the Mists, then run through the gate ahead of you to get to Lion’s Arch. That’ll bring you out by the PvP portals there. Run ahead over the bridge and the city portals will be on your left.

I don’t know what you consider a good rate of gold income. I wasn’t making a ton of money for a while, when I salvaged everything. Then I started salvaging whites, selling blues and greens I couldn’t use (vendor if TP lowest seller is too close to vendor price, TP if you’ll make 30 c or more), and selling some nice things I crafted as skillups.

Now even my medium level characters have a gold or two, and I have over 6 gold on my 80. That’s not hundreds of gold, of course. I’m not running around buying Abyss Dye or a ton of exotics or culturals. Still, I can see my balance going up over time.

I think I got about a gold exploring half of Fireheart Rise last night, in about two hours. I wasn’t really paying attention to my balance.

My guess is it comes from Roger Rabbit. In that movie, the animated characters, the cartoons, are called toons in a noir slang sort of way. So since then, when playing an animated character (your MMO avatar), people have called them toons as well.

By the way, it’s a great movie and I recommend it highly.

I may have missed it in the list, but every new player I’ve met has wanted to know how to split a stack of items.

Alt-drag the item while in your inventory. You’ll get a popup window that automatically splits it as close to 50-50 as it can, but you can type a different amount in.

I tried making a Norn named Altdrag Splitstack but someone else beat me to it Still, he’s the name our guild invokes whenever someone new asks how to do this.

That wiki link doesn’t tell you how to get into the tavern

Here’s how: From the lion plaza, go over the bridge to the left of the one that goes to Coriolis (the dead gates area). Ahead, across a short sandy area, you’ll see scaffolding. Go up to the top and in to the red area, turn to the side to go up the stairs and you’ll be in the tavern.

My guild RPs in there all the time, I’ve had to learn it -grins-.

I have not tested this myself, but my guildies tell me that it will be there if you ever pick up the profession. I do know that in LW I bought a pattern too high for me, and it shows as a red listed item in my crafting list the same way items you can learn in 5 more points do.

A quick how-to:

1) Place stats item and looks item in your bags, along with a transmutation stone (you can have a stack of stones, no problem).

2) Double click the stone. You will get a pop up window with two panes. Drag one item to the left pane, the other to the right. Which pane each gets doesn’t matter.

3) Now you will get separate little panes for each attribute: looks, stats, rune. Drag the one of each you want into the center.

4) Verify you have the pieces of each item that you want and click the button at the bottom. The original 2 items will vanish and you will have one new item. Enjoy!

Note that you can’t get back the skin you didn’t use, it’s gone.

I’d like this, so long as there’s some room between them if I want to get a screen of just one at a time. Though I predict issues if people buy up 24 slots and then want to see everyone at once …

I’m also looking for that hat (tricorn with a mask). I saw an armor site saying the Conquest skins are available in Fireheart Rise, but I have just done many hearts there, then resorted to a guide to the zone. The hat karma vendor is in the SE area of the zone and the hat sold is the bone face mask, not the tricorn.

Does anyone know if that hat can be found anywhere at all in PvE? Heck, I’d work to buy it in PvP if I could transmute it onto PvE gear. Specific directions on getting it would be lovely, assuming it does exist in PvE.

But that would hurt those of us that like realistic armor. Maybe if they added in some heeled versions for people wanting to wear them, but please don’t change the good stuff that is there.

I love the armor that looks like something in which one could effectively fight. While many women RL have learned to do amazing things in heels, it takes extra balance and effort, creating a mobility handicap. I don’t want my characters tottering around in combat

They’ve been notified of that one long ago, so hopefully it’s on someone’s checklist. Still, I have to say that in our guild chat there is often a squeal of glee at getting “glove pants” since, well, look how TIGHT those things are. It’s a hilariously appropriate mis-iconing.

I’ve been helping a guild mate with his last few PS quests so he can join our Arah story run tonight to finish up. But this PS is stuck at Rescue the Crew, there is one npc stuck inside a rock and no others to be found.

We were doing a lot of RP surrounding all the boarding action, too

Swimming parties, for one thing. Or goggle-dives that enforce sudden stripping. One uses the “underwear” as a swimsuit. Why not let people have their swimsuits different colors? Though if swimwear hit the gem shop as costumes, I bet it would sell -very- well.

I hope this does come along for people that don’t have thriving guild or friend groups for such things.

Meanwhile, “dung,” really? I don’t equate dungeons with wading through manure but that abbreviation keeps raising unpleasant mental images. At least use “dunj” if you must shorten the word, so it will be pronounced like the start of the word. I’m begging, here. Not aiming it at you, Blake, I just finally snapped.

I like that better than the invisible bag, as it gives you more flexibility in sorting out what sits where in your bags. Me, I just keep my top bag clear of things I don’t want to sell and take a moment at the vendor to pan my mouse over stuff to evaluate what I want to do with it. Salvage first, deposit collectables, then line things up in the bag, then a lot of fast double clicking to sell.

I’m assuming you do know about the invisible bags, of course. Anything you put in one of those will be “locked” as you describe.

Even the most careful person can goof now and then, or as others have noted can be lagged or otherwise bugged into a mistaken purchase.

I have been playing MMOs since before DaoC’s Trials of Atlantis and have almost never bought something in error. I love “window shopping” so I am always staring at all the options a long time, even the ones I can’t use or afford. But in WoW’s Brewfest a year ago, I was finishing up on an alt to get her a Brewfest Dress. The event was nearly over, it was late at night and I was very tired. I accidentally bought the lederhosen version instead. Mind you, getting the tokens to buy it was a multi-day grind that could not be repeated at that point.

So I submitted a ticket asking to convert the item to the intended purchase. Not to get my tokens back, not to get an additional item, just to swap one cosmetic thing for another (and I never even wore the lederhosen). They very nicely did that for me.

If there had been a buyback, I could have just gone “oops” and fixed my sleep-dep-induced error. I don’t see it as handholding or excessive protectiveness, simply a way to remove a source of aggravation by preventing one error from wiping out weeks of effort.

I’d not want to have to add someone to my friends list before I could trade an item. What about fill-in people in dungeons? I’m happy to send them a drop I can’t use but two months later my friends list will be cluttered with who-the-heck-is-this names.

More importantly, since you don’t have to approve a friends request, the gold seller can simply friend you and then send the mail anyway.

I’ve never toggled colorblind mode in a game as I am lucky enough to have near perfect color vision. However, I had a guildmate in WoW who is totally red/green blind and says that the mode he used there actually labeled colors. Like, little rectangular text blocks saying “red” or “green” or “yellow” in the appropriate places on the screen. It seems a bit cluttered to me, but I know it was the only way he could manage the Beth’tilac fight there.

Would that be something that would help in GW2?

Boosters do indeed up your reward, or did last time I used jugs. With a karma booster and a guild karma banner booster, I got 6975 karma per jug rather than 4500.

Which doesn’t solve the basic problem of a mistaken purchase. I like the idea of separate tabs (I always want to preview ALL the armor and stuff, in case an alt might want to go for it later), but a confirmation window would be the simplest thing. Though someone in a hurry might just go “Yes” without reading the item being bought anyway.

So how about both a tab for each type of armor (Heavy, Med, Light), AND a confirmation popup?

I’ve been using fast-cast since the BWE’s because when you are in a hurry you really don’t want to have to click, set a target, then click again. But I also use my mouse for 99% of my movement so yes, I do have to stop moving to fire off an aoe target.

I fully support having aoe go off centered on my target’s current location. That target could be a friend, after all, if I’m tossing a support spell. If I have nothing targeted, then fast-cast at the mouse’s location. All as options, naturally.

I like this! So long as it’s an optional thing to apply. While not much of a PvPer myself, I can see people not wanting to broadcast something like “Hey, I just stole Whirling Blades” or “Look! I’m in Earth!”

It’s bedtime anyway. I’ll see if it’s better tomorrow, in those moments I’m not participating in a certain nationally important US event (or watching the results later).

I just got the new build as it came out. It hung on 4 files remaining, so I closed it and relaunched. Then I logged in only to find I could not post in Guild or Party, though Say and Emote worked. I closed the client to restart.

Now I get Error Code 42:1001:9001:3971, The game client is unable to gain access to the log-in server at this time.

I think part of it is account bound. Today I got Shiverpeaks competion achieve on my guardian despite not having done much in the snowy lands with her.

I think it’s exactly as intended. The Mists→LA hop has been there since BWE1; surely they’ve noticed it. You still have to pay to go into the world -from- LA, right? Other than capital cities, which need people willing to go to them to keep them alive, and also cost money to port out of. This just gives you a multi-loading screen way to get there without an initial cost. Plus it facilitates easy movement between PvP and PvE, thus encouraging people to do both play styles.
