Lost Shores event disconnect solution? [merged threads]

I’m fine with not getting a chest, since I did the whole event start to finish on Main (Tarnished Coast) without a dc.

I’m perplexed by my guildies who were in my group the whole time also without dcing and getting a chest when I haven’t, but eh! ANet’s trying. Besides, I have awesome guildies who are cheerfully just giving the exotics to each other.

You can in fact join another guild without losing your current one. My own guild leader has done so, and our allied guild’s leader has a character in our guild. It’s a simple toggle button to pick which you are representing.

I’ve never been a videographer. I’ll enjoy seeing the entries, though! And if anyone needs a dancer on Tarnished Coast, or even a troupe of dancers, give me a /tell or a game mail. I myself won’t ask for any prize money just for typing /dance * -grins- I might be able to persuade my guild to field more dancers, too, as we live to entertain.

I remember getting it in a BWE once, I don’t think I’ve seen it since launch. But since my Thief doesn’t like hiding his face, it’s not one for which I’ve searched all that hard. Anyway, keep an eye on PS rewards and drops, and don’t assume from the icon that you just have a standard hat. I’ve noticed that some really fancy looking things have standard base icons.

It’s a bug they are working on where if you zone out it resets the counter.

Easiest way to get it is to make sure you have a huge stockpile of crafting mats and stand there crafting. I was working on my guardian’s jewelcrafting, got her from level 60 to 65 doing it, and the achieve just popped up towards the end.

I don’t think a server transfer costs any money, though it will cost you your guild influence and yes, make it harder to group up with alternate guilds. I’ve never heard of it costing dollars or gold. Well maybe you have to pay some game money to remake the guild on the new server? But your guild members won’t be out any money.

You have to get Arah open and then run the dungeon. So you need 4 friends to run it Story Mode. Once that’s done, you get the final solo part in Fort Trinity.

Hint: For that last solo part, make sure you’re dressed and dyed the way you most like. There’s no combat and you will want screenies. Also talk to everyone, including the late arrival, and keep talking to that one all the way through. Don’t leave until you’ve gone to the Pact vendor.

Please help me avoid weapon swapping

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I primarily use scepter/focus on my Guardian, with sword/shield when I want to port over to the enemy and beat on it. The cooldowns are so long for useful buttons on sword/shield, though, and the scepter zapping so fast and peppy, that almost all my time is on the main set.

You’re right that Elementalist gets extra confusing. I don’t mind the swapping, though, once you really learn a weapon set’s 5 keys it’s not that hard to add another 5. I don’t tend to go to other weapons at all though I keep them up to my level in case I have to use a hammer (the Lovers) or a staff (CM bandits in the hall).

Voice Chat - Headset Recommendation

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Does it need to be a headset? As in, will the chatter bother the rest of your household? I also wear glasses, and can’t stand earbuds, so I experience the exact pain you do. Plus I loathe having anything pressing the top of my head.

My solution is a Logitech mic (USB port style) sitting near me on my desk, and output through the computer speakers. If my husband needs to go to bed down the hall from my computer room, he pulls my door shut -grin- But it’s just him and me, so having all the chatter out loud isn’t a problem.

If a headset is a must, sorry — for the above reasons I know very little of them.

Why are you people saying "toon" ??

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I started reading Science Fiction in .. 1974? Back before cool people had anything to do with it. And the true aficionados knew it was abbreviated as “SF.” That “Sci-Fi” referred to space westerns with blasting ray guns and other b-movie schlock, not to any worthwhile writing. You could get the most amazing rise out of a fan by calling it sci-fi. I was one of those purists back then.

And sometime in college in the 80’s I realized how very petty it was to worry that much about semantics. It simply wasn’t worth the blood pressure. Words can be used to cut and hurt, of course, but don’t get upset at the words themselves, get upset at the malign intent behind them.

I really don’t think anyone here formed the habit of calling their game character a toon as a calculated insult against all right thinking people. Let it go. Enjoy life, avoid ulcers, and allow for vocabulary differences. Please?

How do I get to Orr?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Go south! LA to Bloodtide Coast to Sparkfly Glen to Straits of Devastation.

http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/interactive-maps/ has a great overview map of the world and you can even click the individual squares to see what’s in each zone if you don’t mind spoilers.

Warning: The karma vendors are in the temples, which take a large group to clear out and make accessible. And even then life can suck. I have enough karma for a full set of Orr exotics. Last night I was alerted that Lyssa was open, that being the rune I want, so I hopped down there. Bad move. It seems that right after it’s cleared, the vendor is there but the mobs move back in so you can’t buy stuff unless someone else is fighting them off. I lived a while thanks to many dodges and stealths, but there was no freaking way I could stay by the vendor long enough to even see which section was the medium armor, let alone buy any.

I love the game but that seemed some of the dumbest design I’ve ever seen.

Lifetime survivor stuck at 495k/500k xp

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Just to give a tip to everyone aiming for this achievement; it will take 500k xp in one area which is the equivalent of 2 levels roughly, stock up on materials by the boat load and just craft to your hearts content in one sitting. The discoveries alone should net you this achievement easy as pie.

That’s utterly true! I just wanted a new necklace for my Guardian yesterday. She was at 230 JC or so, and I had a zillion ores and gems stocked from all my alts leveling.

I got caught up in crafting, got her to 389 JC, as well as about 5 levels of experience, and suddenly boom, Lifetime Survivor popped up.

Your gaming background? Love/hate GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Background:

D&D starting in the late 70’s when it was 3 pamphlets in a box with some low impact dice, followed by many other tabletops such as Top Secret, Traveler, Runequest III, Flashing Blades, etc. Most recently Ad&D 4th ed online tabletop and L5R using a custom world.

LARPing (theatrical style) starting in the late 80’s and going to a few years ago.

Computers: Began those with an Atari 800 (cartridge and floppy games, including Star Raiders and Crush, Crumble, & Chomp), moved on to a Mac 128 (yeah, 128K, that was a LOT in 1984), dabbled in a MUD or two once there was an Internet. I enjoyed things like 7th Guest, Zork, and Riven.

MMO’s: DaoC, Horizons, WoW (7 years or more), LotRO, Aion, Rift, AoC, etc.

Opinion of GW2: Best thing ever! I love this game. Mechanics, philosophy, community, RP, aesthetics, it shines all around. I’m 47 years old, I’ve lost the impatience of youth (what I had of it, I was always a bookworm and fairly calm), and I don’t mind errors made by devs that are working so hard to craft Tyria for us all. I’m sure they’ll fix things up — none of the MMO’s I’ve played had all their features in at launch, or kept everything with which they started.

GW2 Suggestion - Over Level 80 !

in Suggestions

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

So … you want an endgame power up, items that only a few people can get even if more than that few qualify, and you don’t think there’s anything left to do in the “lower” zones despite this game being designed to let you enjoy things via scale-down?

I’m sorry, but nothing you are asking for fits this game’s philosophy or design. Getting to 80 isn’t the point, it’s a byproduct of the fun.

This isn’t meant to be snarky, alas for issues conveying tone in text. It’s great to have people interested and creatively making suggestions. So keep the ideas coming, hopefully more in line with how this game works. — friendly smile --

Your wishes sure sound like a Guardian to me. Before the BWEs I was positive I’d never want to play one, as they felt far too much like paladins to me and those had bored me stiff in WoW. Then I rolled one to test it and whoaaa.

GW2 is more about not getting killed than dealing out the dps, and Guardians excel at not getting killed. So many shields, protections, blocks, defenses! You can trait them towards damage output or towards pure defense and support. They make combo fields, burn their foes with blue fire, and just generally kick rear.

My guardian feels like my toughest character, even more so than my warrior. I find myself choosing her for dungeon runs even though she’s not 80 like my thief.

Where to get greater transmutaion stones?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

You get fine ones from completing level 80 zones, from the end of your PS, and from the Black Lion chests. The latter is RNG based, though. I used yesterday’s sale to get 25 keys, managing to open 31 chests with them thanks to more keys dropping from the chests, and collected 25 fine stones from the chests. A guildie opened over 60 chests and got no stones.

edit: Oh, I think you have to be level 80 to get fine stones from the chests. I always make sure to open chests on my 80.

Each time I’ve done Swamp I’ve happened to have a Mesmer in the group (and been with guildies on Mumble, not PuGging). What seemed to work was getting everyone in position, fastest runners nabbing the wisps, and the Mesmer putting a portal in the middle and booking to the vents to drop the other end of it. Wisp runners gather on the portal, hop through, fling the wisps into the vents.

Make sure the destination portal isn’t -right- next to the vents or someone might find themselves porting back to the middle of the map instead of interacting with the vent.

That sounds like a bug. Did you try relogging or even restarting the game? If it’s a tradeable item you should be able to drag it to the mail slot. I find that many ills in the game are cured by a reboot.

Maybe you can test to see if it’s postable on the TP (not actually posting it, as you want to give it to your friend). If not, it may not be something you can trade, though I am scratching my head given you have said it isn’t soulbound.

Tarnished Coast Punsters, Come Forth!

in The Lost Shores

Donari.5237

I had a blast during the 3 hour battle. Part of it was the near non-stop funny comments (on TC Main) from people either during the reinforcements fighting or while lying dead. But I certainly didn’t have time to do more than read them over Mumble and have others read to me, so now my brain has lost hold of most of them.

Samples: “Tonight we dine in SHELL!” and “This is all a profit plan by the Consortium. They own all the armor repair shops.” I heard of something like “This place is a chowder keg.” A guildie did “Forward unto Prawn!”

My own not-so-great contribution: “Vacation Island? Like a vacation in Vegas, you come here and get rolled.”

So what else did you all come up with? The puns should not be lost in the mists of time!

Move gate of FotM, please

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I agree the gate should move as long as it’s not too hard to reach. My reasons are selfish: my guild likes to RP in LA and the longer it takes to get into main server, the longer it takes to start our meetups. Overflow is a good way to handle things mostly but does little when you want more than 5 people gathering at a time.

Help! where's the unique armor?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Also if you have transmutation stones and money, you can buy the prettier pieces that are higher leveled and use the skins on your low end pieces. But it takes so little time to level, and you keep getting new gear, that you might not want to do that all the time.

At level 20 you start getting some cool things, and your personal story rewards usually include neat skins. Mostly just give it time, you’ll find the stuff as you go.

Town Clothes and armor variety

There is an option to keybind your town clothes. I have it on num pad – and it’s a quick tap to put them on or off. They added it before Halloween, though it was a stealthy thing without fanfare.

So easy switching is covered! Now we just need the variety. Poor/common/rich clothes, summer/winter ones, hats people would wear in Tyria (I still want a froofy landsknecht hat with curling ostrich plumes, asked for it in Beta and haven’t given up yet). Pretty dresses, fancy dress coats, don’t let the Mesmers have all the lovely looks, hey?

Satisfaction Poll.

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I’m at 1. This game has spoiled me rotten, given me everything I want in an MMO. I don’t expect perfection and I have the patience to wait for them to fix things. What’s frustrating people today will become veteran’s tales in times to come.

I played DaoC from just before the Sylvan expansion until Trials of Atlantis, played Horizons from launch for around 3 years, then WoW from not long after its launch until August 25, 2012. I also dabbled in LotRO, AoC, Rift, and Aion. Every single one had issues that got corrected, changes made for good or ill, and if something really got screwed up it got fixed or at least not repeated despite what the doomsayers claimed.

None of them have matched the sheer heart, beauty, attention to detail, and dedication to fun and community that GW2 has provided. Does that make it for everyone? No, clearly not, but there is nothing in this universe that everyone will love. For me, it’s head-over-heels time, and I hope the devs know that I am not alone in loving what they have done, are doing, and plan to do down the road.

Oh yes. Very much a 1 for me.

This is the appreciation thread. If you don’t appreciate, please post in one of the complaint threads.

I had a blast this whole weekend, even when Canach was bugged or my party members didn’t make it into main for the big battle today. I am amazed at the new content and the weekend’s events are fodder for a lot of RP.

I am sure the Anet people were heartbroken at the issues and didn’t get a lot of sleep this weekend. They want to do super cool fun stuff for us. And they have. I just can’t play my old MMO any more, not after this wonderful world and game design and mechanics. I’m sure they have learned from this and will improve performance in future events.

I appreciate the heck out of you, ArenaNet. There are things you still need to do to improve the game, both small and large, but I love this game far more than any I’ve ever played and I look forward to many more events and expansions in times to come.

I’d like to know so I can be in position long enough in advance to queue into main. Which possibly means an hour ahead of time. Deaf players and guilds requiring Vent/TS

in Suggestions

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I hope they can find a better guild. Do they have any interest in RP? Our guild has Mumble but specifically states that guild chat is preferred over Mumble. We use Mumble for dungeon runs because it really does help in time-sensitive communication situations, but sometimes we have someone that can’t use it for some reason such as a bad internet connection or a low-end computer and we do just fine.

If your cousin and his friends want RP, they might find a similar situation. RP guilds tend to be more interested in how decent and mature the person is as opposed to how strong a player they are vs. game content. Check out guildwars2roleplayers.com for a large site (at least 3K members, I think) dedicated to the game’s lore and to stories to tell in Tyria, along with RP guild listings.

Risk v reward / awful drop rates

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I guess it depends on what you consider the reward. I’ve had a ton of fun this weekend roaming with guildies, laughing at the utterly frothily insane sylvari crab chef, getting surprised by karka barrel roll attacks and hatchling facehuggers, RPing with my guild …

And I’ve had a number of blue and green drops, a few shells (got over a hundred shells by using my November gem purchase on consortium chests), and one orange named scepter from the shark chest when I hadn’t even tagged the giant shark my first time to that event.

This game isn’t about loot, it’s about fun, with loot as a bonus. I’d say ANet has delivered a -lot- of fun in this new content, despite the bugs.

I do like Ohoni’s idea of immersive ways to make checkpoints. Perhaps they could reset in some way after a bit of time or when you log out? The vine you dropped could rot and fray, etc. That way you get to bypass the parts you just finished but if you come back much later you have to redo it all.
