Then jump into the dungeon first. It’s whoever enters first (that person is also the “leader” and thus must remain until everyone’s done, since zoning out kicks out the rest of the group).

I like seeing the other characters, it’s usually the best, most detailed closeup I can get of their face and gear. Also it gives me an idea of other voice actors. Then again I only run dungeons with guildies, so I have an interest in seeing them. I get funny moments, too, when the cutscene version is at odds with the IC persona. Or when in CM a big hulking Charr in clanking plate is told “Ask around. But be subtle.” Lol!

I hadn’t noticed the “green swirly” ones as stopping me from getting mail. I have at least 10 saved mails on my main having to do with PS and Explorer things and still get mail from guildies and gold spammers. But if you want to save all the character’s NPC mails, try taking a screenshot of it and saving that instead.

I’d love to be able to see them more clearly. Sometimes I have to wave my mouse around — if a hand icon appears, there’s loot. Also if the body is still there, someone hasn’t looted it, and it might be me. I don’t think I’ve missed too many loots over the months but how would I know, if I didn’t see them?

Inventory Management: Dyes/Recipes "Known By"

in Suggestions

Donari.5237

In another game I had a mod that added a “known by” line to any tool tip, as well as a list of which alts had how many of the item. It saved me from having to alt hop to find out if I had some ore (I just had to get on the alt now and then for the mod to get a current inventory reading).

In crafting, we get a notice such as “You have 2 [Pasta Noodles].” I’d love to see that expanded so that on mouseover of an item link we can see how many of it we have. In the case of Dyes and Recipes, it tells us “you already know this!” So why not say which of our alts know it, to prevent duplicate karma purchases or saving a dye for an alt that has already unlocked that color?

In our guild we frequently post dropped dyes to offer to other guildies, and it’s hard to quickly know if I should ask for the dye or if the alt using that palette has learned it.

I don’t use WASD. I am female. These two facts are entirely unrelated. In other MMOs and here I’ve had many female guildies who used WASD with devastating effect. I don’t use it because I am far too right handed to do anything that precise with my left hand, and will hit all the keys around the WASD buttons in frantic combat situations. The same issue arises with any combo-keys, which WASD requires if one is to use skills while moving.

Previous threads over the past months have gone into great detail as to why click to move simply won’t work with GW2 mechanics, especially with jumping being so integral to getting around the terrain.

Dodging was an issue for me in BWE1 (again, nothing to do with being a woman). Then I got a Naga HEX, bound my arrow keys to the buttons on the mouse, and while I’m still not a great circle strafer I can dodge any direction by rocking my right thumb a bit and clicking a button twice. Since my -right- hand can handle fast delicate movements just fine.

You’ll run into the same problem as with open world housing. There are far more players than real estate. The moment you make part of the game “owned” by one person or a small group, you are denying it to everyone else.

Trust me, the level of greed, backstabbing, and flaming will be astronomical. GW2 is meant to prevent those things wherever possible, so I see no way that any tiny fraction of the player base will ever get a chance to “own” Tyria.

Can we get a town clothing NPC?

Donari.5237

I would love a way to get at multiple town clothes items without having to use bank/bag space, you bet. Klutz also has an awesome variation on this, with the toggle list of all the items you have attached to just one kept/stored item.

Another possibility, albeit one that adds to the UI and thus affects aesthetics: Add a panel to the right side of the hero pane that shows up when you toggle the clothes, mirroring the dye panel, but each box is an unlocked town clothes item icon with its name visible on mouseover. Click the box to don the item. Some way of sorting the items would be needed as one’s collection grows, of course.

I don’t know how hot-bar changing toy items would fit into that. Perhaps they would still have to be stored individually?

Let ANY PROFESSION use ANY ARMOR...

Donari.5237

Beyond the other complaints above, I can see a technical issue with this. There is horrible texture spread when viewing Light when mixed with Medium or Heavy, or vice versa. Light skirts clip terribly with Medium coats. It wouldn’t just be a matter of coding to let us don the other levels of armor, it would be a huge graphics overhaul.

The Elder Scrolls Online will allow complete freedom of gear and skills, but the aesthetic and mechanics (and graphics) of GW2 dictate visual distinctions between the Professions.

My ONLY issue with the Clocktower.... and it isn't horrible.

I ended up not minding the group of people. My big issue (besides just not being good at fast jumping) is that I use mouse-movement so constantly going to the right takes my mouse off the pad unless I lift it back to the left, which means stopping long enough to do so. At which point, helllooooo green goop. Or at least it slows me enough I reach the leap of faith too late.

I am sure WASD would help … if I weren’t utterly right-handed and completely untrained in WASD use. -shrug- I have given up trying and give all praise to those who have succeeded.

While this won’t help you with this issue, you might want to consider turning on Auto Loot in your options. With that you still have to hit F but when you do (including when you open a chest), everything automatically goes into your bags. If the bags are full, you get a clear warning of it and a chance to ditch or mail something away to make room before hitting F again to collect the loot.

Umm .. back on topic …

I’m sure ArenaNet could come up with a good way to play a pack of Skritt. It wouldn’t be entirely unique, though. Allods has a race where you play three of them at once. I never tried that race while playing Allods so I don’t know if they were a hive or just good friends.

Skritt don’t seem likely to me as the next race, but ArenaNet has consistently come up with and successfully implemented wild, ambitious things. So who knows?

No, I haven’t solved the clock tower. No, I can’t log in right now thanks to the connection error. No, I haven’t got the scavenger hunt book on all my alts or gathered all the chattering skulls and candy corn I want for eventual rune crafting. But I got to see the Mad King burst out of the fountain and then go in a surprise dungeon with my guildies, all the while oohing and ahhing on Mumble. I still give all the kudos to ANet for fantastic design.

[Complaint] After 7 hours I give up ...

Donari.5237

I am pretty sucky at fast precise jumping myself. I think I spent around 6 hours trying this today, I know a guildmate spent around 9 hours (I was with her for most of it). The muscle memory began to set in, I didn’t need to see that first jump after things assemble to get going … and no, I never made the top. Closest I got was juuuuust missing the jump to the last staircase that faces the clock. Subsequently I never got stably on the grey beam by the little rock.

And I had a blast and don’t know exactly how much time I spent, because I was doing it with guildies, on Mumble, and there was banter and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Yeah, it may be too hard for me. I have slow reflexes and I use the mouse to turn — so the constant right turning takes my mouse off the pad, unless I lift it back over during a microsecond breathing moment. I derped a lot of jumps, and then when I got in a groove my mouse seized up .. but you know, I’m going to keep trying, and IF I ever beat it I will be beyond thrilled.

I am happy something this hard is out there that still feels in my reach if I can just do … one … perfect .. run …

There are a couple of on-edge skill points that are a little hard to figure out, I agree. Such as the northern one in Sparkfly Fen. Still, if you remember that each zone is a rectangle and zoom out your view, you can extrapolate to get a pretty good idea which side of the border holds the skill point.

If they make it too clear it will only increase the artificial feeling of the zone shapes, imo. And heck, if you run around looking for the skill point, you might stumble on other things of interest, right? -smiles-

Hmm. Perhaps they could put a limit on number of items that can wait in the TP, similar to the mail limit. Thus you have to remove things from it before you can buy more, but at least you can remove them to the correct characters.

I don’t know how much I want a cloak in GW2, actually. I’d certainly want it to have a toggle like hats and shoulders. It would depend on the cloak physics. Just having a stiff panel hanging down my back? Meh. Having something that drapes over the shoulders and moves like flowing cloth .. muuuuch more interesting. Get variations in style such as cavalier half-circle capes, short cloaks, long cloaks, coachman cloaks with shoulder flaps, opera cloaks with spiffy collars … mmmm getting even more intriguing!

I think it’s the latter, BrunoBRS. I’ve noticed that I can port from day to night and back again, but if you stay in one place you get the full cycle. Which is much shorter than 24 hours, and night is shorter than day, but it’s still hours rather than minutes.

Dynamic weather would be nice. Or even just a cycling of weather in a particular place. I know a spot in LotRO that had regular rain, but the sunny gap was long enough to have a decent RP and then get “rained out.”

Dark and Light was an ambitious MMO that failed for me due to an abysmal UI and terrible connectivity at launch. Still, it had not only dynamic weather but dynamic seasons, with snow expanding in “winter” and trees leafing out in “spring” and “summer.” I have no idea how well that worked out, of course, as I quit in a day or two thanks to basic lack of playability. The concept and videos of it were amazing, however.

All these threads about boredom and nothing to do … I notice none of them come from roleplayers. I have an 80 and a couple of over 50’s, those being my most RP’d characters and thus the ones I find most compelling to play. My 80 isn’t even in all 80 gear, let alone exotics or properly runed, I have yet to even set foot in several of the dungeons or see all of Orr, and I’m having a blast.

Meanwhile my guild has an evolving story, has done RPPvE and RPWvW, has hosted gatherings, has plans for a Soap Opera to present monthly with the our characters acting roles, wants to do a Whose Line Is It style performance, is using jump puzzles as IC treasure hunts, and so forth.

I have a baby Mesmer I’m starting to try out, still haven’t touched Necro or Eng, am still having fun learning what new dishes I can cook up or neat armor skins I can craft. All of it to support the RP, in a world so richly imagined by ANet that we have a consensus reality as a framework.

Bored? Try telling a story with the game rather than just fiddling with the game mechanics.

There sort of is such a thing. Any tab you have will turn red if someone’s posted in it. It’s not audio, just the visual of the red, but you can glance at it to see if there are new comments. So make a tab that is just for Guild and cast an eye at it now and then.

That being said, the ability to have more than one tab visible at once (by undocking a tab to pull elsewhere on the screen) would greatly ease the information overload caused by having to either see one spamming tab or constantly click on tabs back and forth to monitor different threads of conversation.

Even better, have the tabs expand/contract at the touch of a keybind so we can have them out to read chatter but instantly clear our view in a fight, then restore them once ready to read again.

Corollary: because it is the single biggest quality of life issue for me in this game and so I will keep harping on it: customizable chat colors or at least something more visible for emotes!

As has been suggested/requested many times, I feel that custom chat channels will solve your issue and many others. They will offer the most flexibility of use to answer most of the communications problems about which so many have posted.

I don’t think they even need to be moderated, so long as they are easy to create, join, view, and leave. I’ve seen abuses of such channels in other games (notably a channel used to find RP that got hijacked and locked down by a griefer guild when one of them got mod privileges) but nothing to make the basic idea of having them a bad one.

A custom channel will allow inter-guild communication, event coordination, and larger groups within WvW. It can be semi-permanent or exist just for a few hours for an event. Every MMO that I’ve played for the past 10 years has had such an option; GW2 needs it as well.

I’ve only found one PS step where I truly regretted the choice I made (happily that was in Beta so I didn’t do it in live). For the rest it all seems like equally viable “good” choices, more a choose-your-own-linear-adventure than a character building exercise.

One minor point: I think the human baddies are the bandits and White Mantle, not the Ministry, though there is a nasty Minister. Certainly they are more analogous to the Inquest and the Sons, etc.
