Are you using Win7? There is a Snipping Tool on that you can use. Get your image up, click the tool (I have it pinned to my taskbar), draw a rectangle around the section showing the armor. Save As whatever name you want. It will be a smaller file and thus possibly easier to upload.

I’ve done that bandit quest but the various PS disguises you get tend to blur in my mind as to which comes where. I’d guess it’s the same outfit as in the PS in the bandit cave in Queensdale; if so I do not think it is available as player armor.

Sage Advice for Next Toon

It will come down to personal preference. AwwGee gave a good objective overview.

I find that Ele has a much higher skill cap than Guardian, or maybe my intuitive skills make Guardian work better for me. My Ele is still 27 despite having been made at launch, while my Guardian is 80 and is my go-to for dungeons. She just keeps on staying alive! Whereas on my Ele I fought 45 minutes through a PS to a boss that I just could not solo. Brought in a Warrior from my guild and he cleared it all for me in 5 minutes. Again, could be my own issues there.

I have a 42 Necro now, much more fun than I expected. She likewise is tough to kill, and there’s no need for any ugly minions at all. Though she’s a cheerful woman who just puts up with the ugliness at need, calling the blood fiend a “balloon” for instance to make it seem less gross, and wears vivid colors. I can see giving her my fairy wand scepter skin …

I’m an altoholic so I say go for it. Besides, you don’t lose -all- progression. A lot of what you’ve done is account bound. My second 80 got exotics much faster thanks to the stuff my main had built up, and leveling alts progressed various achieves.

On top of that, you will see more story, get more of an understanding of what the other professions bring to a fight, and get a fresh perspective on the game.

I’ll admit my altoholism is due to RP, not to wanting to get into the nitty gritty of game mechanics, but I keep finding new fun things each profession can do.

I do miss the high rez option even though I run the game on high settings anyway.

So here I am listening to Ziehrer’s Hereinspaziert waltz and daydreaming of a glorious evening of dancing … and I realize that with all the tremendous architecture in Divinity’s Reach and environs there is no ballroom. Minister’s Court and the Throne Room have the right feel but have other purposes, and the Throne Room is instanced. Caudecus’ Manor is sadly lacking in the dance area.

Perhaps a ballroom could be added to the manor (if only for 5 people to enjoy at a time after some perilous combat) or, better, inserted in one of the currently closed buildings in the Reach? One something like this

Questions about monthly - JP and Fractals

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Fractals: Each one counts and you get 3 in a full run, so 3 fractal runs of any level finishes that.

Jumping: Just go to the start of the puzzle. You can check your progress bar before and after to see that it has ticked up by one. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been to them before. The fun way is to go around doing them, of course, but as time is short for the rest of the month, here’s a way to supplement it:

Go to LA overflow. Go to the start of each puzzle. If you get in main, do it again on the same character. Otherwise, get on an alt, repeat. It resets with the dailies, so you can discover the puzzles again the next day with each alt. That will add up fast to the 30 puzzles you need.

I got a lot of them done that way but also followed Dulfy’s guide to find some puzzles I’d never heard of. That was fun!

Hmm. If you’re sure he’ll love it then maybe buy it for him as a late XMas gift, and be handy by voice chat or game chat to answer all his questions as he designs his first character and starts playing.

You can also show him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOYP4ViTYzU which is a fantastic fan video made pre-launch from profession ability clips released by ANet. Regrettably the original cut from before Mesmers came out has been removed by the creator; it was far better paced. Still, this video remains stirring.

Stumped by Dungeons

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

There is a bit of a learning curve, plus at first your gear may make you more vulnerable to getting downed. I’ve had the benefit of only running them with friends and having Mumble up, so guides as such haven’t been needed. We’ve either figured them out on the fly or beaten our heads against the walls until we got through or had someone that already knew how they worked to give us hints.

Some global dungeon skills will just get better with practice, as well. Spotting and avoiding traps, dodging at the right times, learning what the mob abilities will do to you, etc.

Right now there is a furor going on over the announcement that dungeons are changing so you can’t waypoint rez mid-fight and run back in to help the others. Since many fights do involve nearly unavoidable deaths, the predictions are that dungeons will become untenable and unfun. ANet has said they will also be nerfing the encounters, so we’ll see. Me, I’ve been happy with the run-back-in ability because it’s meant being active through the whole run rather than having to lie there and watch others fight. (While constantly twitching the camera thanks to the death spin, here’s hoping they disable that spin now that we may have to deal with it for minutes at a time).

Here’s Dulfy’s wonderful guide, listing exactly which piece has which stats and at which temple, including stat point totals if you happen to get all of one set.

http://dulfy.net/2012/09/08/gw2-templegod-karma-armor-sets/

Using a guild karma boost, a karma banner, and a karma booster, you can chug your month’s worth of daily/monthly jugs and dungeon karma vials and get -plenty- of karma. Each jug gives you 6975 karma instead of 4K when drunk without bonuses. My Thief got all 6 pieces with karma to spare as I’d been saving karma for a bit before they introduced the jugs, and my Warrior managed 5 pieces with the next month’s proceeds, filling out with dungeon token gear.

I don’t claim rigorous testing, however, so I may have done something wrong.

Will existing achievements get converted?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

It looks like the nagging question still unanswered is how the tokens will be stored. I assume they will be objects rather than simple numbers on a bar, so as to make them account wide. Given that, I add my vote to having them (and indeed all dungeon tokens as well) be collectible in a specialized bank slot.

I am pleased that the achievement points will buy cool stuff! Even if I could swear that achievements were originally announced as just for fun and not to be used as currency because no one should feel “forced” to do them. Maybe that was in my previous game? Since I happen to like achieving, without feeling any need to achieve every possible thing, this new stuff sounds great to me.

Of course, as they are not yet sure if the tokens will apply to non-daily/monthly achievements, one must be careful not to spend everything the first moment possible. Not only might something more pricey become available once you have the retroactive tokens, more rewards might be introduced for purchase and turn out to be what you want far more than what you bought at the start.

Alts and GW2

The answer for me is always RP. Though I admit I just have 6 characters (3 are 80), none of them a Ranger, Engineer, or Norn, I might very well start up a duplicate profession at some point if a character concept demands it. RP also keeps me playing my main and engaging him in the world. So many storylines going in my guild! Right now we have an adventure arc shaping up for the next month or so that’s had some behind the scenes stuff setting up for months already.

Heck, RP kept me in my previous MMO for 7 years and only GW2’s superior aesthetic and gameplay pulled me away from people I still consider good friends over there. RP adds so much more depth to any MMO.

I got mine from Direct Song. I wasn’t happy with the customer service or with the extra month and a half delay that meant I got the 4 cd set after game launch when I didn’t want to just sit and listen, I wanted to play. But I’m very happy with the cd’s themselves.

I don’t know if they still have any, signed or not. Thirty bucks is accurate for the 4 CDs, though, that’s what I paid. It does seem really low, I know! If Amazon’s charging a hundred bucks that may mean it’s a private reseller who got it from Direct Song. Or it may mean Direct Song’s page needs to be deleted because they don’t sell it any more. /shrug-of-not-knowing

Abyss, as a rule. Applied to -some- armor bits it comes out much lighter, but those bits tend to lighten any applied hue. Black is pretty close, I believe, but so far I’ve only previewed it rather than getting a 3D multi use from it.

Perhaps just as you use /g for guild chat, you could use the guild tag to pick an unrep’d guild. So typing /TT (commentary) would send the (commentary) to the TT guild.

Customizable chat channel colors go hand in hand with this. Please let us ungrey the emotes, and pick what colors will mean what channels for us! (I’m actually ok with most of the colors, but that grey has got to go, and it seems easier to let the player choose colors for multiple guild chats than to arbitrarily assign colors for a random number of guilds per player).

I was a shadow Priest in WoW for years. Necromancer is closest to shadow Priest, imo. Also it’s surprisingly fun to play (I wasn’t psyched for it until I decided I wanted a human female for the pretty Light armors and now I really enjoy her though she’s just level 30). Mind you, Necro only offers some of the same general feel; in its particulars it’s nothing like spriest.

For rogue you’d go Thief, though in GW2 that’s more about mobility than stealth since you don’t permastealth. I had 3 rogues in WoW and my main here is Thief. I come at my characters from an RP perspective, btw, so Donari is in some ways a retread of a WoW rogue of mine, the dashing swashbuckling one.

Thief has a number of WvW advantages, though as I have never been much of a PvPer my ideas on that will differ from devoted combatants. I really like the whole running away from the fight ability

If you can accurately scan text, cool! Otherwise I agree with Jayne that a screenshot is your best bet. Set up a tab that only has, hmm, the loot messages and maybe /say, then go somewhere distant enough or instanced so no one will /say near you. Loot bags until your chat window is nearly full, /say Screen One or something similar, screenshot. Rinse and repeat.

Then you can go to the screenshots and use the Snipping Tool (if you have Win7) to crop down to just the chat box if you don’t want to work from raw screenshots.

An exportable chat log would be so useful for you and for many others, too, especially RPers that would like to quickly post adventures.

I hear that armor skins in the gem shop are on sale today. I wasn’t too thrilled about them but some time ago I bought the Primeval one and once I applied it to my Guardian I realized that I just needed different shoulders and gloves and I had her look nailed.

The first use of a gem shop skin requires no transmute, you just apply it directly to the target item. After that you have to do standard transmute stone stuff. A few shots of how it can dye (note I am using Ascalon shoulders and Inquest gloves because I didn’t think the skull motif worked so well for me):

Amaterasu, the trick (if it still works) is to transmute the skin onto a cheap white item of the same type. Bank that. Then take it out on the alt and transmute the skin onto that alt’s gear. You can’t swap stats like that but you can swap looks. Note that you will lose the statted item so you’d best have replacement gear for both alts ready to go.

Guardian is about as survivable as it gets, imo. I use scepter/focus on mine, with sword/shield for variety. My dps isn’t huge but with my traits and utilities it’s very hard for me to go down let alone be defeated. I can support my friends and save myself even in really long fights. Outliving the opposition is the key in GW2, hey?

Guardian is 80; I have a Necro at 27 or so and she does tend to melt faces and recover her health easily mostly using staff at that level. I’ll have to see what happens in dungeons.

My Thief is 80 and is my main, yet while he can live through a lot when I dodge and stealth a lot (and is super for flitting through Orr), I don’t think I have him spec’d out right or maybe I just don’t play him that well. He can live a lot but everyone else seems more effective in the dungeon fights. Otoh when I have to go into WvW for the monthly he’s my choice. Running away is a useful skill there! And shortbow gets me aoe.

I can’t answer to Rangers and Engineers, I tried them in beta and found them to involve too much micromanaging for my tastes.
