I agree the healing skill has some issues. It roots, it shines a big light on “I am helplessly healing,” and it doesn’t thematically fit with the rest of the utilities; it looks like the Thief decided to be a Guardian for a bit. I suppose they chose the root to offset the endurance gain rather than add yet more dodge, but I hope it’s one of the things Karl mentioned as having already been changed or updated.

Once you hit Create, yes. Before then you can screenshot them for posterity.

Kits come from Achievement Chests (maybe every 5000 AP? Check wiki), random drops from Black Lion Chests if you have keys to open them (I got 2 or 3 kits today from my 26 chests opened due to the key sale — 1 key dropped in a chest, hence 26 not 25), or flat out purchase.

It’s useful to keep one in your bank that you never use. You can use it straight from the bank, fiddle around with all the sliders, see the new faces and hair styles and colors, and just close or Cancel the use instead of finalizing the changes. So when they announce new styles you can check them out on all your alts (even gender swapping to see both genders’ options) and decide if you want to use a kit for any of them.

You’ll get the little whoosh sound if you pick a dialogue option in a non-maxed personality trait. That’s it. It literally does not matter what you pick beyond your own internal RP, and you can change that as easily as you can modify a daydream

The choice remains in creation because it’s easier to leave it there. But really it’s just a vestigial useless thing. Don’t sweat it.

Is there a soundtrack available?

I did see a notice that the HoT music will be available on SoundCloud.

The one you linked is the OST from three years ago that was almost impossible to get even at the time even by people who sent Soule’s company money (I believe quite a few never got either the CD set or a refund). Then Soule parted ways with ANet and stopped selling it altogether. The price is steep because so limited a supply made it out to the public and it hasn’t been available since.

You can hear all the tracks from it on YouTube but other than piracy or big bucks you’re not getting the 4 CD’s. Sorry

Donari.5237

That’s a very valid plan. It means your focus will be more on the mechanics and feel of the elites and less on helping find broken things in the HoT areas so they can be fixed, but all of it needs testing.

I’ll say, though, that I’m someone who loathes spoilers. I don’t have to have all my entertainment sight unseen but woe to he who gives away story elements to me before I have a chance to get to them myself! Yet they’ve restricted what’s available so much — they even disabled a whole branching story line in the little bit of story that we have — that I feel more like I’ve seen the first paragraph of a novel, not had the plot wrecked.

Individual spoiler tolerance varies substantially and you might well enjoy it more if the first you see of the entry to Verdant Brink is on your main LS or RP character. But don’t worry too much that you’ll see much more than a sliver of what’s coming if you do go to VB. (Except they did say we’ll be in a different section of the map and, well, be meeting some people you might not want spoiled at all. Hopefully you can avoid Map Chat in any map for a bit as I bet there will be comments therein).

Donari.5237

That’s unlikely. ANet almost never goes past an announced date. I think the camera control changes were the only time it’s happened for GW2.

Just look at how much change they were able to put in during a short amount of feedback time so far. I am sure they will have a playable product for us in October, though of course there will be further refinement after launch.

Heck, even some of the stuff we saw last beta was from an earlier build than they had internally available. It’s all readier than it looks.

Can you be more specific? How many slots did you have before, and how sure are you of the number, do you have a screenshot showing how many you originally had? Did you buy HoT? At what tier? Older accounts get one character slot for buying the upgrade to base HoT, and another if they buy Deluxe or Premium upgrades.

Did you ever buy extra slots, maybe? I don’t know if that would be in your Gem Shop history or not at this point.

Is our “beta bank” carrying over from the last event as well, since our characters aren’t being wiped? I suppose I find the 20-30 minutes per new character reading through the traits, picking gear and upgrade stats to complement the traits, organizing inventory, applying better armor and weapon skins and dyes, and testing out what the various skills and utilities do takes up far more time than hustling from Red to Amber.

I checked it out on Wikipedia and saw this paragraph:

“Although Dragon’s Dogma does not feature a direct multiplayer mode, the developers have revealed that players can compete online with asynchronous encounters called Events via Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network.”

It seems to me that true MMO’s with hundreds of avatars milling around just can’t give you as full customization because all the details need to be conveyed to other players. They can give you the most beautiful creation screen in the world and then you won’t look anything like you designed once in game.

Case in point: ArcheAge character design vs. appearance in game on high settings (note the severe change to face structure, converting leanly handsome into thinly weasel like):

The problem is mix and matching which creates clipping issues.

Yeah, cause this game has no clipping issues. /s

There are tons of clipping issues in the game already and anet doesn’t care. This is a weak excuse.

It’s the wrong excuse. The incompatibility of different-weight animation skeletons is the real reason. I don’t think ANet has ever claimed mere clipping is a reason not to mix weights.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Donari.5237

As I feel compelled to point out every time someone asks to mix armor weights, it is not technically possible. They designed each weight with different animation rigs and they don’t play well together.

Have you seen the texture bug happening on female sylvari Wedding Attire? Imagine that multiplied and covering all your armor. That’s what happens when the weights mix, as we saw in the game’s beginning when one could preview a mix.

It goes far beyond clipping.

Guys, can we please keep this thread to listing the items added, perhaps with minor exclamations about said items? There’s a merged thread for discussing the merits of the overall sale and I’d be sad if this thread got merged in there so we could no longer find the OP’s excellent listing.

Bank duplication for BWE2?

Donari.5237

Honestly the more I thought on it, the more I’ve come to understand that I would rather play the beta as that and find all the bugs I can to help there than play the rev the way I want to play him or her. I will still play the rev (I’m not really good at the other classes as it is) and will most likely try the build I have in mind just to see if the traits work and so forth. It just means I need to get up to 60 tomes again I deleted my first toon so I won’t be getting the insta to lvl 30 scroll for sometime but I am fine with that it just means a little more grind in pvp and taking that as my end of the month reward over the laurels until I have 60 again (I tend to us mine for key farming and to finish lvling my warrior and engi for the last leg of their lvling so I don’t have stacks just laying around because I was actively using up the tomes ^^; ).

Why do you need tomes? You’ll be 80 the moment you make the character in the BWE.

Oh cool, I didn’t realize we could hop to VB to open them. Clever. Do they stack six of them or do you need to go back and forth?

It’s more idle curiosity for me as I still have over 70 charges left on my beta account, more if anything gets re-copied over. Though that mastery xp boost, yum. Except ANet wants feedback on how it feels to progress mastery tracks and if I cheese it to do it fast I can’t give them a good response.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Why skip it? It gives you a hunk of xp towards your mastery training. If the events bug out it becomes your fastest way to get deeper into the mastery tiers.

If you mean just the very start sequence, it’s a cinematic and then a run to Amber with no real requirement to do anything but run. This assumes it’s not different this go-round, since we’re entering VB on the jungle floor this time and dealing with a crashed ship of nobles instead of Laranthir’s situation. So it might all be nice and new anyway.

I like the name. It fits my Thief’s persona to a T. He’s always been the sort to do crazy dangerous acrobatic stunts just to show off. I think it might be more than 5 points. Some of those achieves have tiers. Not that it is likely to matter to anyone other than the hardest core AP hunters, of which I believe there are fewer even percentage wise than those affected by the 500 gold cap.

Either we keep the points or we don’t. Their total amount will be minuscule compared to the thousand points per major achieve goalpost.

HoT names question

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

If you are core specced you will be a Guardian, if you equip the Elite spec you will be a Dragonhunter and your profession icon will change. If you then go back to three core specs you will be a Guardian again, with the Guardian icon. You can freely swap in and out.

The new names reflect the Elite specializations. Over time professions will get more Elite options. So if the Guardian gets, say, “Visionary,” “Smiter,” and “Fluffylight,” then equipping the relevant Elite trait line will change the name only while that line is active.

I hope that clears it up for you.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

Google is failing me, but I remember back when they first announced the Thief profession in 2011 they commented that it was more than a sneaky backstab rogue. That they wanted to roll in all the archetypes — acrobats, conmen, swashbucklers, etc. I relied on that in designing the RP persona of my dashing ladies man conman nobleman master of disguise, who much prefers being in the limelight in whatever role he’s taken on (literally, he’s been in theater) to effacing himself in the dark.

I am psyched for him to learn stick fighting. He’s never ICly liked guns, as he prefers not to take lives without great need and he can control the damage blades do far more easily than tossing bullets through people, assuming he has to fight at all instead of charming his way out of the situation.

Ah, but the suggestions are to make toy chairs, not to convert the in-world chairs which would in fact not be technically feasible. Nor is anyone demanding this as top priority; we merely remind ANet from time to time that this would enrich our gaming lives.

Do you also feel there should not be musical instruments, boxes o’ fun, costume brawl items, alcoholic drunken effects, ambient NPC dialogue, or anything else not directly related to game combat and profession balance for said combat?

I dont give a kittenz about if my character can sit on a chair or not, theres a /sit emote and ill gladly sit on a roof over a chair in a game when i sit on a chair irl playing the game.

There’s a difference between complaining and advocating for QoL improvements with hope they might be implemented once ANet has the resources. There are many thousands of RPers in the game, who tend to get pretty spendy in the gem shop, so adding a few fun things for the purpose would not be a waste.

I’m sorry if you missed the over-kittened thread earlier today. Now that was complaining.

Shadow Abyss from Birthday Dye

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Donari.5237

Donari.5237

I think it would be a good thing if they added sets once they retire them, just as they add new hairstyles to hair kits bought long before the new style arrived. I have one guildie who has already managed to collect all the dyes. I’d love if she could save her birthday ones unopened until a new set arrives and is retired and then get them.

For those who haven’t got all of them, there are a lot of good ones in the kits. Surely there must be at least one as thrilling as Shadow Abyss?

I’m just sad that I’m missing close to 30 of the specialty dyes and don’t have nearly that many alts near their 3rd birthday. I’ve had to make some hard judgement calls about which ones take priority. Since I seldom have the wherewithal to collect all dyes in a set, I can only hope that as more of my alts age I’ll get a shot at future kits as well as the ones currently in the gifts.

Meanwhile I finally got Flame and Charred, two beautiful hues that eluded me back during Fire and Frost, and am very happy with that.

Donari.5237

Seats help with the, er, well, the setting. So to speak. If you’re RPing a banquet it’s a bit weird to see the guests standing around. If someone’s exhausted and slumping into a chair, either s/he is still visually standing or is sprawled on the ground. Or possibly jammed sideways on a chair with limbs dangling in all sorts of odd ways. What if you’re on a stool at a bar? Or want to leap up in outrage from your chair at something someone says? Visually you’re all just a bunch of mannequins propped up as place markers, you’re not doing enough of a scene. It’s sad when you can get a viscerally more impressive RP by going off to a text chat program out of game — and since that does happen (Mozilla EtherPad, I <3 you so), that’s people not spending time in game.

Here is my thread from 2 years ago on the subject: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/suggestions/Why-We-Need-Sittable-Chairs-Picture/first#post2518213

Subsequent to that there have been a lot of creative suggestions on how to implement sittable chairs in GW2 without having them need to be interactive environmental objects (a simple /chair emote, a toy that becomes a chair of various styles with a skill bar change to let you set poses in it, etc). I’m sure the devs have seen them, and had other things to work on, but it seems such a basic thing to give us that I still hope one day it shall be so.

Meanwhile, here’s an early pair of shots of how annoying it is to try to use Tyrian furniture:
