Close to 100 tries but lost count how many tickets got spent in the end…
Got Liadri down to 3% two nights ago, but finally all the way last night when hope was all but gone.

Better stated, is WvW the baby left in the car while the parent goes shopping?

As a parent, your example disgusts me… Truly disgusting comparison, and it’s not well stated at all. It should have no place in a game forum no matter the effect you’re trying to get across. Going by your post and subsequent quotes/replies either “liking” or “laughing” at this highlights some disturbing sense of humour.
But as you said, we have to wait and see if they actually deliver. This is a comparison on what they have done so far. For me personally it’s not even an argument that GW1 content updates were more substantial, even if the OP is leaving some GW2 stuff out.
I’m often quite negative on the forums but it’s mostly because I wanted this game to be as good as GW1 and in my mind it hasn’t delivered and the direction it’s taking is not as it should. I guess the term I would use for GW2 so far is “underwhelming” … or “so much wasted potential” but I can’t put that in one word.
Please, btw, I cited the comparison list from the Reddit thread, so this is not my list. Sorry if it missed out PvP content additions. That will of course balance out PvP map additions to GW1. As for other major things missed out; I’m curious which you have in mind that don’t fall into both GW1 & GW2’s footnote about “quality of life improvements and refinements”.
I agree whole-heartedly with your 2nd paragraph, I want GW2 to be as good as possible, this is the game I’m playing, I’m done with GW1, but GW2 is underwhelming in terms of substantial content that is still in the game at this point of writing. Apart from FotM, the other 3 dungeons are gone (Molten, Aetherblade, SAB) – story content breezed through in the first hour of every fortnightly content update and then we wait. I want more longevity and that all-encompassing experience in GW2 that I had while playing GW1. There’s so much story/lore they could have done, but instead of a campaign (Factions), it’s like we have a little short story (LS).
Re: your first paragraph though, this isn’t so much about if Anet can deliver, I’m prepared to wait and see what comes next, but so far their merits pale a bit compared to what they did in the first year of GW1, imho – and of course, in the opinion of the OP on Reddit – who I don’t speak for, I just wanted to share this on this forum.
Yes, it makes sense to see what is permanently there and what comes and goes or is just simply not there anymore…
Quite an interesting discussion and comparison going on between GW2 and GW1 in terms of updates so far now that GW2 also has celebrated 1 year anniversary.

They said the same thing about Liadri but now everyone and their grandma has a Liadri mini.
On what planet ? It’s still and will prolly remain for a while the hardest 1v1 content in the game and maybe 15% of the playerbase have actually got that achiv.
Ive seen some players who can’t even do regular dungeons cause they so its too hard get the Liadri mini.
Smells a bit like illegal account-sharing in that case.
Not naming names, but I’ve seen loads of people get their more hardcore friends login with their accounts to defeat Liadri. Account-holder (hereafter called The Cheater) remains the same, “incompetent” player but have a mini they unjustly acquired.

It doesn’t stay according to what I’ve sifted from how SAB is set to be available only from time to time. It will return for world 3 and world 4 again later though, isn’t that so?
I feel alienated by the OP’s words. I’m in many of those categories, and I currently try to find a way to defeat Liadri for that elusive mini. Still no luck, but maybe by Tuesday next week I’m a happy man, if not it’ll be forced defeat and another chance next year.
No hard feelings; not leaving over it either, but I’d hate to see Liadri nerfed too. Everything fine as it is.
Maybe they can change the MF stat to % CD stat and turn MF gear to Berserker gear… close enough on the other 2 stats already.
Please purchase a Race Change Kit from the Gem Store for 800 gems and change your Sylvari to some other playable race if you wish to keep your character.
Yea, what Anakita said, the Overdue Emissary event finishes at the base of the tower. Then the gates open and you can run up and get what’s inside the chest.
What I WOULD criticise with the Balloon Tower events though is that the Champions were set to spawn so far from the tower. Quite often I ran up to the tower guide, that NPC then told me to defeat the champion and I said ‘yes’ to trigger the event. Of course, he was quite a distance away and people were camping there waiting so he was dead before I could even say ‘cake’ and I got no credit (justly so, but still it meant waiting for the next tower event).
That was the most annoying thing while I was chasing down the various Champions of the Queen.
For some reason I can’t shake Simon&Garfunkel out of my head when I fight Liadri, so here goes with a little song to the shrewd woman in GW2 that is currently stopping me in my tracks
Bit messy in some places to fit the melody (I never posted something weird like this before), but you get the point…
Hello Liadri(darkness), my old friend.
I’ve come to try best you once again.
but your visions of mortality
traced me while I was fleeing
and the blind that was planted on my screen
still remains
confounding me to silence
Ever restless I move around
in narrow paths avoiding circles on the ground
skirting edges of your shadowfall
pulled across the room to your crimson ball
again my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a blinding light
that finished the fight
as I was downed in silence
“Fools,” said I, “You do not know –
Liadri the Concealing Dark grows
Hear my words that I might teach you.
This is a duel that might break you”
But my words like her silent shadows fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

I’ve loved it so far – the only complaint I have is NPCs referring to Divinity’s Reach as “DR” in dialogue…. that’s extremely immersion breaking, to be honest. Otherwise fantastic event!
Why? We use initials like that in real life e.g. LA and KL. I don’t see why Tyrians wouldn’t do the same.
Mostly because it’s all of the sudden. Never in the history of the game until now has an NPC referred to Lion’s Arch as LA, for example, (though players do) – or BC, or RS – it’s the same with Divinity’s Reach; never before now has it happened in game (or in the fiction as far as I’ve read). And it wasn’t just Scarlet, I’m pretty sure I heard Rox and/or our new asura sidekick do it too.
It just felt like poor editing on the scripts before they got to the voice actors is all. (i.e. it was meant to be Divinity’s Reach, but was shorthanded while writing, and never got changed in editing – pure conjecture, but that’s what it feels like.)I’d have to check through old content, but I’m pretty sure we’ve had ambient NPCs referring to some cities with nicknames since launch. I understand why it might sound jarring to some, but we’re experimenting with dialog to make it sound a little more natural.
DR sounds a bit too modern for a fantasy setting; if anything I guess it could’ve been D’ Reach with the D’ sounding a bit like The, and eventually Divinity’s Reach being shorted in everyday speech to The Reach
At least, I wouldn’t mind just calling it The Reach
Your gauntlet tickets aren’t worthless though; QG is still there once you complete Emissary Vorpp, right?
In general I think the Living Story is too fast-paced. I’m really craving a good 2 – 3 week period where NOTHING happens and we can just get back to exploring the world, doing activities, dungeons, fractals etc.
Remember the first Flame and Frost LS updates… all content done in 1 or 2 days, 12 days spent waiting… people complained; I’d much rather have this intensity level and then just opt out from time to time to do other stuff.
You still have plenty of time to do it all and the other, regular content – just mix and match to suit your playstyle.
A whole race isn’t smarter just because it has one individual who excels… they also have Trahearne. Case closed.
South of FS? I need a little more to go on, did you refer to the ships taking artillery damage actually taking place in the game already?
Dredge do artillery fire from cave entrances to kodan ship there. Not barrage fire when all sky in projectiles but still…
Thanks, yea, know that place. Just need to check out again, never hung around to see like that.
South of FS? I need a little more to go on, did you refer to the ships taking artillery damage actually taking place in the game already?
Hm… something to do with the Kodan and the Molten Alliance perhaps?
Not sure there’s a link, but in the ChinaJoy trailer and the Living Story trailer, one of the huge Kodan ships is under heavy artillery fire and I don’t recall seeing that in-game so far, so maybe the LS events will unfold in this direction…
Hopefully the “permanent” changes to GW2 isn’t taking away one or more Kodan ships; they’re part of the reason I return to Frostgorge Sound, oh and that Claw of Jormag event and now ofc that truly boring champ farming run…
Of course a few tries later now and revising my build I’ve managed, but only just and I was downed with Doern Rodriguez delivering the killing blow to rally the rest of us
OK, I’ve done the Battle for Claw Island several times and got past this champion risen with ease before. Now I’m back here facing him as I escort Zott to the Priory light tower.
All risen mob groups dispatched, and now only the Champion Risen Plaguebearer stands between me – and a party of NPC Whispers agents, Doern and Barron.
Enter fight- the Risen trolls me, teleporting around the whole platform, spawning Locust Swarms like crazy and yes, I know about 10 sec repeated application duration, but we’re hanging in there curing conditions like hell… one by one the NPCs go down, and I’m fighting him alone, and if I don’t die by massive condition damage, the Champion Risen returns to his start area and heals back up.
I’m fighting him on the platform – I’m not kiting him too far for him to reset…
Can you look into this champion mob, Anet?
Agreed – surprised it was so close at all what with Kiel being so predominant in recent stories and Evon only a greedy merchant.
Now let’s wait for the story developments until it comes to pass that Kiel is and has been a scheming bad guy all along in consort with the Aetherblades… looking forward to pointing fingers at all the Kiel voters then
You are incorrectly assuming that all who voted did so with the fractal as a primary motivation. Not everyone who voted runs fractals. A percentage of those players don’t even know what a ‘fractal’ is.
And in that refute, you are assuming all voting for Kiel voted with Thaumanova in mind…
Hence, I guess you can assume that out of the population voting for Evon vs Kiel, then the voters in favour of their sponsored fractals was also split 52 vs 48 just as the total outcome of the poll was 52 v 48.
Your logic affects both camps of voters.
To lend my support to the OP, I think that when the vote came out this close, it would be a good gesture on Anet’s behalf to create both fractals. Of course, the Thaumanova fad first. If the results were more clear-cut, like a 60 v 40 win or even greater landslide, I’d not expect anything like that, but as it stands it’d a nice gesture.
And please before you berate me my opinion as a claim, I’m saying it’d be a nice gesture, not a necessity or anything Anet has to do.

Champion rewards will be different based on their level. However, like other loot rewards if you’re a high level player in a lower level area there is a chance you’ll receive rewards based on your actual level rather than the area you are in each time they drop.
I hope you guys also take into account that certain world events with a lot of champions need some limit on the champion loot so that we’re ensured progress in the event itself.
Concrete example;
1st phase of Claw of Jormag; one bunch always firing at the Corrupted Ice shield whilst a whole lot more stay behind at the cannons killing vets and champs. When the ice shield goes down, these guys hardly ever make it up to Claw of Jormag in time and hence this phase takes much longer than the usual 1-2 iterations.
Same also goes for the final phase of the fight – if the champions at this – and similar – world events doesn’t have their rewards restricted, you’ll have really long, drawn out world events and they’re already tedious.
Right now, GW2 isn’t a sequel to Guild Wars…
Yes it is, notice the 2 after the GW, and it’s the same company who made both and they say so. You may feel stuff has changed, but it’s the sequel to GW alright!
2 weeks isn’t too fast for churning out new content, they just need to make the changes persistent/permanent so that you don’t have to play the content in those 2 weeks or otherwise miss out forever.
Chaos magic twarts her portal spell as she’s retiring back to her own chambers and she ends up as part of the wall structure in the royal palace never to be seen again apart from a low, muffled scream the servants sometimes hear while cleaning the place at night…
Yea, that’s it…
I can follow the story just fine and it does take a bit of reading up on release pages on the official website, the wiki and paying attention to mails, stories, cut-scenes, dialogue etc in-game.
What irks me is the references here to friends/guildies who don’t know what it’s all about. Yes, a system to give a recap of LS to everyone wanting that will be greatly appreciated, but on the other hand, the majority actually just don’t care. I’m in one of the biggest guilds on SFR and our guild chat is riddled by the same questions over and over and over on patch days with new content releases…
“Hey, what are these <insert token name here, most recently Support Token> for?”
“How do I get those achievements quickly… I don’t care about who wins the election”
“Where can I find refugee items?”
“What do I do with Jade Ticket, where can I find holograms?”
There’s so many players who just click-click-click through the game, they don’t pay attention and aren’t bothered with it either… to state that all these struggle to relate to the story is missing the point altogether, they don’t care about story, only rewards, achievements, progress and click through everything which would’ve explained it in detail, but instead they sit dumb on their chair and need to ask about every little thing.
And I don’t mind explaining/answering on that guild chat when they’re asking – heck even on map chat I’ll provide help
But if you lack the initiative to even bother to check out the story, don’t come complaining it’s not there. I doubt 10% of them even checked out the Audience with a Master instance – iirc it doesn’t give you anything, it’s just lore or backing story, but the achievement/rewards hunters probably don’t check that out.
Sort of like Battlestar Galactica’s frack, Anet could’ve made their own rather than turn everything to the generic kitten. I quite like the first suggestion in this thread bookah but that would be a tip of the hat towards the Asura who I don’t give a kitten about (ask yourself, did I now type kitten or the other word…)
The Skritt already go ‘skritt, I’m hit’ which really sounds like they go censored already from what they’d ultimately want to say. So maybe we could adopt ‘skritt’ as expletive instead of ‘kitten’?
This thread makes me wish the Asura – like their Inquest brethren – were killable in-game (not just in WvW/PvP but in PvE too), what a pesky, annoying bunch of creatures. xD
Until you log in and you suddenly no longer have a guild vault with all of your money in it because your guild no longer exists due to the guild disappearing bug. For some, a reload of the game brings your guild back, for me this fixed it on one occasion where I had this bug. Another time my guild was just gone even after several days of restarting and relogging. Lost several gold I had in my vault and some items. Had to eventually remake it (same name, same tag) and get it all trained up again with vault, guild armor and weapon, etc.
Probably obvious and something you checked back then, but it wasn’t that you transferred between servers so that your guild reset and the bank was lost?
I think rather than be pedantic about your grammar it was to exemplify how your statement held quite true.
As for jubilee, it’s for a special anniversary, and particularly the likes of 25th, 50th, etc. but if 10th is special then we’re good to go.
In a medieval fantasy setting with quite frequent changes in power, it makes sense jubilees came around a bit more often… oh well, on to more interesting topics than this nitpickery.
Braham’s going to be all like ‘hmm, looks like I started a fashion trend’ when he meets all the heavy armor characters…
On topic though, it will be nice to meet them both again, time to form a new hero group to go head-to-head with Kralkatorrik… roll on the Brox tag team!
Oh well, maybe caught up a bit just there…
If you look at the map of Tyria, you could see the centaur presence forming a quarter-circle starting from Harathi Hinterlands running south and west through Gendarran Fields and into Kessex Hills and all the way to the border of Maguuma Jungle.
The centaurs are a threat to human settlements, so having formed that half-circle and possibly supply lines along that offensive, the centaurs now lay siege to human settlements in those areas and northwest of that “quadrant”, i.e. Queensdale and ultimately Divinity’s Reach.
Just some musings on how the centaurs came to be where they are spread across the maps, and through some spear-headed offenses they have got through to set up smaller bases as deep into human territory as Shaemoor, etc.
We don’t really know where Kralkatorrik is either; last seen fleeing from the battle vs Destiny’s Edge, but we don’t know which direction or if he’s tending his wounds in Crystal Desert.
…Queen Jennah conjures an image of Kralkatorrik hovering over Ebonhawke fleeing south to end the siege by the Branded, but there’s no writing of where he fled to
Yea, but it’s an overground spear then… the staff looks different, could the spear be on its way into the game? Would love that at some point!
KEEP the function to deposit gold to your own bank. I can see tons of tickets about peeps buying expensive items…
Isn’t there a confirmation box if an item costs more than a few gold? If you manage to click first once to buy an expensive item you don’t want to, and then again on the confirm, there’s little you can blame Anet for.
Honestly – players should slow down a bit if you click around so fast you make purchase mistakes by being sloppy or not checking what action they’re currently doing…
Seriously… expensive and rare recipe requiring lots of rare materials for a one-time use consumable?
OK… next!!!
It’s a tough call, recent Living Story events could point in direction of either Jormag, Primordius or Kralkatorrik.
I’d love to see Jormag or Kralkatorrik first; could the Aspects that the Zephyrites harnessed from Glint’s body be tied to some clue on how to defeat her master and somehow lead us back to the next elder dragon we must defeat where Destiny’s Edge failed.
Snaff died in Edge of Destiny, and he was the one who could take control of Kralkatorrik’s mind, and the knowledge of how died with him, maybe a new means to defeat Kralkatorrik needs to be discovered before he can be re-introduced?
, the dragon’s tooth in the Great Lodge at Hoelbreak has some significance if you read the Edge of Destinty novel – and again, if we’re to go up against Jormag we’ll need to be able to defeat him. So far all we see are people fleeing south to escape his corruption, but little of the story has so far revealed to us any clues as to how we would fight Jormag if he was to turn up at our doorstep.
So, much as I’d like to see an elder dragon soon, I also don’t see how soon this could happen as some clues need to fall into place first; as for Primordius, it was the first to rise, but unlike Zhaitan who rose nearly a hundred years later and is already dead, he has taken his time… maybe to build forces (could the Molten Alliance be one such recent move?) or simply biding his time before he strikes unlike its less patient “siblings”. Without any lore to back me up on that, in my opinion, I have a feeling we’ll see both Jormag and Kralkatorrik again before we see Primordius.
Now all my characters are going to have access to all my gold all the time. Which is a bad thing and causes people to start wasting gold more often cause they have it available all the time now. The bank was a nice way to deposit gold so you could keep so much gold in a “savings account” for something you were working towards.
Sorry but this seems like a step backwards now. And if I want to keep the gold just on my characters, I can’t log on them. Otherwise once I log on them, it is going to transfer to account bound. So basically if I don’t want to use this feature, I can’t log into the game at all. So guess it’s just time to say goodbye.
Don’t sound so dramatic, you should embrace this QoL change and definitely not quit the game over it. Give it a little time once the patch goes live and see how much more convenient everything will be. And seriously, if you need that savings account, start a personal guild and get your own vault there where you can mimic that feature, but other than that, you cannot blame Anet for you not being able to burn through the gold in your pocket…
What about Skill Points? Are they counted as currency? You spend them at Miyani..
They are obviously character-bound due to what you also get from Miyani being character-bound (e.g. crystals, bloodshard, etc.)
Back on wallet topic, thank you Arena.net this feature really made my day, and the convenience this will grant 99% of your player base far outweighs the personal problem of those who for some reason want to keep separate accounts for their characters, imho.
This will clear up so much needed bank space due to dungeon tokens, karma pots I couldn’t decide which char should get, etc.
To have it all pooled for use across my account, lovely!
My take on the Uncategorized Fractal is that, knowing the Asura as “geniuses” with a lot of experimental projects going on, the UF is just a failed attempt at creating Rata Sum. How many Asura projects have you seen gone the way they’re supposed to on the first atttempt?? To me it then seems likely the Uncategorized Fractal was an early attempt to establish the new capital
The Rata Project was a dream given form. A self contained city floating high over the wilds of Maguuma. A place of commerce, diplomacy, and science for a quarter million of the races of Tyria. A shining beacon in the sky… all alone in the night. This is the story of the last of the Rata stations. The year is 1326. The name of the place: Rata Sum.
Haha, as a fan of B5 when it ran, I tip my hat to you for the reference
Jennah surrounding herself with Watchwork Sentinels… hmm, I get this weird association to the Star Wars pre-quel and the droid armies…
I got a bad feeling about this…
What happened to Fellblades being a unique reward?
As long as the clean version is still only obtainable via gw1, then it’ll remain unique.
but if this one looks better, theres no point to it existing anymore since no one would get them
…it doesn’t, it has horrible purplish runes… the darkened 2h Fellblade is unique in its own regard.
As 40/50 HoM, I don’t mind the HoM skins serving as bases for new skins making it into the game. Are you opposed to Jormag’s Breath (IDS) too because of the Fiery Dragon Sword you get at 10 pts? Same skin, just different looks…
<—— GW1 is 250 years back that way, please no henchmen or heroes in GW2, I was so glad they were gone and replaced by actual players
Yes, please, the aegis really breaks the appearance of any shield you wear. Would really like an option to hide it, or if it was possible for Anet to change it, maybe they could make a bluish outline around the shield you are currently wielding whenever Aegis is up?
That could be a nice change in appearance seeing as you already wear a shield and it could kind of enhance that shield with your Aegis effect, instead of the shield-on-shield with its clipping issues you currently get.
Yea, you don’t just mine them from the home instance+BotFW, but they drop like crazy from loot bags with kite fortunes, and you have those kite baskets around the world you can loot them from too.
Just ask yourselves if you really want to elect a fancy cat with a lead designer in his pocket. We’ll just have double up our support for Kiel on SATURDAY.
Brought to you by the people against smelly animals in office.
Imagine what the Fall of Abaddon fractal will turn out WITH the lead designer backing it… after all, Kiel’s Thaumanova-bleh-Asuran-bleh-Inquest fractal only has a mediocre game designer backing it
Hi,
my guild mate encountered a bug yesterday with the Kiel: Direct Support achievement where you have to complete Tier 1 and 2 of the Candidate Trials.
I had done them before, so he joined my instance and since mine was unlocked all the way to Tier 4, I had to downgrade so we could run Tier 1 and 2.
Problem was that we ran them in reverse order, so after completing Tier 2, my mate got the Kiel: Direct Support 1/2, but when we then ran Tier 1 afterwards, it didn’t complete.
Please fix asap, I can’t get my map completion done
