Than I don’t know.Ask the people who kill me constantly in WvW. It seems to be a matter fo them dealing more damage to me than my fragile Thief frame can absorb. If you can’t kill Thieves in WvW then the problem is with you, because Thieves are dying left and right.
Honestly, 99% of those who QQ haven’t truly tried a backstab thief. They are amongst the worse, most inefficient thief builds out there, and is only used because all people see are high numbers and are drawn to it. There are much more deadly thief builds out there. All have a counter. Backstab is the easiest to counter.
We’re most likely going to get nerfed, like it or not.
Here’s some ideas to nerf thieves properly (I’m not suggesting they should all be implemented, they’re just some separate ideas, also, they’re based on WvW) :
-Remove damage from Mug and make it a knockdown/knockback instead.
-Put a cooldown on Cloak&Dagger
-Let Steal interrupt attacks that are in progress (like Cloack&Dagger)
-Lower the damage on heartseeker when hitting targets above 25% Hp.
-Increase revealed debuff to 5s duration.
-Add 2s revealed debuff when leaving stealth without attacking.
Fix culling, obviously.
-Increase clusterbomb initiative cost to 4, give it 50% extra projectile speed to compensate.I hope any future nerfs will be coupled with buffs in other areas, to compensate.
I hope Arenanet will be careful with nerfs, thieves are currently very strong against new players and mediocre against experienced players.
IMO, CnD should remain the same if the other stealth changes are implemented.
Lets all leave our servers and join Kaimeng and dominate T1.

How about we actually fix culling issues before complaining? As it is that adds 1-2 seconds on thief stealth, and you all know it. So instead of jumping the bandwagon about nerfs how about we fix something that is literally broken that probably has the biggest effect on stealth?

There are other thief builds that are more deadly, and less prone to easy counters. Backstab thief is…horribly inefficient….

In fact because of culling he can get me down to 4k health before I even see him.
If you’ve seen 99% of the thief videos, and this is coming from myself as a FORMER backstab thief, thieves rarely approach people form behind in stealth. They just walk up, yet people have horrible situational awareness. Thieves don’t approach in stealth simply because it ruins their chain. If you attack in stealth your cnd will interrupt your stealth giving you revealed and not allowing backstab. You can approach in stealth, but you’d have to make an educated guess because you can’t control when you leave stealth, otherwise you get revealed. With backstab it’s all about timing.
People, you need to look behind yourself when alone in WvW. I’ve seen too many videos where a thief stalks a player for too long by just walking behind them.

Question, so why are thieves the only class that is “allowed” to be able to use full zerker gear with little to no risk?
Why does everyone else have to use a tank build, and boost hp as high as possible, just to stand a chance versus a thief?
This is what I’m getting from your post, you must mean something a bit different I’m sure. Can’t say its a compelling argument. Pretty sure that not every class can burst 10875 hp in the time it takes them to pop shadow leap, or heal ability. At which point, fight is basically reset.
If you run a glass cannon your victims are players just like yourself. Glass cannon. Its a cesspit of dquishies trying to kill each other fast. Thief is not the only class. Have you seen a shatter mesmer? Ill show you one if you want. A glass cannon thief caught by a bull rush 100B or killshot, shatter, engi grenade burst, ele burst will die just as easily. Its all about who gets first shot. There just happens to be a lot more thieves. My point is that if you run ANY glass cannon build, you’re vulnerable to builds like your own, from any glass. First shot wins. There is no “fight” when glass cannons meet.

So basically your argument is “can’t kill anyone”. This is based on what exactly? Do you want me to show you some bunker guardians I know that have kicked the royal kitten out of my 20K hp P/D thief? Heck, I’ll give you their name so you can 1v1 these “can’t kill anyone” bunkers and they will wipe the floor with you. Mentality like “bunkers can’t kill anyone” is why you people are getting killed by backstab thieves.
Your only logical argument is the one regarding engineer. The thief escapes much more easily than an engineer. That is the point of a thief. Engineer has it’s own pluses, especially in WvW against groups where a BS thief would get destroyed.

Check it out: 21715 damage on a 1681 toughness/2032 hp from a thief in 2 seconds.
3 armor pieces vitality and 3 pieces toughness all exotics with 300 toughness from the defense line. No..quickness wasn’t up..didn’t get a chance to =D
Are we supposed to go all toughness /vitality to survive a 2 second burst? Not really..toughness won’t protect you from over the top damage -unless you can buff protection in time-.
I wouldn’t mind this damage if I could see someone coming instead of them blinking instantly towards me and being able to get away whenever they wanted.
Sheesh..I can’t imagine what the other classes have to do with their lower base toughness and vitality.

Equip a shield. You’re welcome. It’s probably 100% likely that the damage received from that happened in quick sucession. Endure pain, or a shield would have blocked. Use a one handed hammer, and daze/knockdown, switch to greatsword, 100B. You’re welcome.

I don’t like how I can never find some small battles anymore, especially against BG. 1v1 in the jumping puzzle? Nope. Next second, 1v10. 1v2 in the middle of nowhere? Nope. Get zerged.

Usually the enemy only thinks it’s one of us, not 3. It was probably a lot more than you realize.
Prob because Rangers/necros are getting a 25% passive speed increase(I think eles too) sometime in the future, making signet of shadows obsolete against those classes. Let’s see how it plays out before we jump to conclusions.
Anet is making small changes. Small changes are always better than radical ones. Radical ones tend to throw off one part of the community. Adjusting a small tad at a time is an extremely intelligent thing to do. This isn’t the end of it, pistol changes will happen, just not on a radical scale. Small changes gives people time to adjust.

I know that D/D ele. Usually it’s two D/D eles, so I don’t bother. When I catch one of them alone I usually get them though. Fun times.
I would trade my stealth in for Burning, Confusion, Retaliation, Protection, Stability on my weapon bars any day of the week. I love it when Elementalists complain about Thieves. If only you could buy a clue in the gem store.
IMO, D/D tank elementalists more or less are just as good as thieves. I also know of a guardian who can kick any thief’s kitten (I tried, could not get her under 80% HP, full P/D build Wild Bill style).
Tab targetting. I play a thief, but I still play against other thieves. Tab targetting is my best friend. After that, I would say try to apply some sort of condition to him such like poison or bleed. The numbers will appear before he does. The numbers render but he doesn’t. It still tells you his exact location though. This is almost foolproof unless they use hide in shadows(the healing skill), which cures both poison and bleed/burning. Also great for identifying mesmers. In fact, sometimes I think have any condition on you will give you a huge advantage over mesmers.
If stealth gets nerfed, signet of shadows better get buffed. If stealth stays the same. I won’t mind. Either give us stealth or give us superior mobility/evasion.
You can try beryl gear plus 100% chance of crit in stealth + all the healing a normal tank thief would have. But your main attack will only be backstab.
LOL. So apparently in some SOR eyes, minority as it maybe, the only reason why BG is now winning is cause of finals in NA… Please enough with the excuses, and realize the fact that BG will continue to win in this bracket, finals or not. If I was SOR I would be more worried about IOJ out shining you again.
BG has better full time coverage. We don’t. Everytime an event of some sort takes place, we get hit harder. Thought that was common sense?
Dodging CnD isn’t that hard and it’s obvious. I have no trouble denying an enemy P/D user such as myself stealth ability because I know how to dodge CnD. It takes a thief to know how to beat a thief. Play the class, get familiar with it, then you’ll stand a bigger chance.

I second the ebonhawke daggers. Those are beautiful. Also checkout AC daggers. They look plain in the day, but glow at night. Corrupted Shard is pretty nice, as well.
Full carrion. Also, if you utilize stealth alot, the healing in stealth trait is invaluable.

I remember reading a developer post where he specifically mentions thieves are supposed to be the slippery, swirmy ones you can never catch…I should dig it up. It’s a good read and is somewhat relevant.
The one thing I don’t understand is how people can’t counter a backstab thief. That’s by far, one of the easiest builds to counter if you know how to do it.
Guardian’s Aegis should help with the initial burst, then use “2” GS, when he enters stealth, do the pull, add some burning, do yo thing.
Warriors should pack endure pain against backstab thief. Absorb attacks, knockdown(preferably with two handed hammer), kill. People don’t realize how squishy backstab thieves are. I run P/D and 5 stacks of bleed is enough to destroy a backstab thief in seconds. These guys are running a little under 11K HP pools and almost zero toughness, remember that…
Using Tab will target 80% of the time despite culling issues. As a thief, I’ve also noticed ranger arrows will continue to target and hit me a second or two into stealth. Don’t stop firing!
Put in 6x Ruby gems instead of runes.

So you want to up the revealed debuff to one minute? Do you realize how asinine that sounds? That’s more than enough to down a thief. I can’t believe people still have problems with backstab thieves. It’s so easily counterable it’s laughable for those who have still yet to figure it out. This is coming from someone who doesn’t use backstab.
Finishing and reviving in stealth is obvious. Don’t be fooled. Just because it’s invisible doesn’t make him invulnerable. If he goes stealth and the feet of a downed ally, guess what he’s doing? You could absolutely destroy him. See the health of a downed/defeated enemy slowly going up? Repeat the process. You make it sound so much more complicated as it is.
Hint: Immobilizations, blinds, daze, stuns, aoes, and most importantly, dodging CnD is a thief killer. CnD costs 5 initiative. If you see a P/D thief moving up close to melee range, he’s going to use CnD. Dodge, then boom, 5 ini down the drain. You can’t recover from that. CnD IS the main stealth skill of thieves. It’s a shame so many uninformed players have no clue about it.
Was messing around in spvp, my question – is there a way to make an “infinite dodge” build?
My tests in spvp were quite lulzy, I used 2X shortbows with 50% endurance gain sigils on switch along with the rune set that refills 50% upon healing, with traits that would allow vigor upon healing, and gain endurace everytime you dodge. I found that I could evade almost indefinitely. 2X dodges, switch, 2x dodge, healing, 2x dodge, SB “3” skill, switch, 2x dodge, signet of agility, 2X dodge, heal(withdraw, which is evade in itself with 15s CD), 2x dodge, ect. It would continue until eventually it hit a point where a small delay in endurance regeneration would give enemies enough time to daze and kill me. However, if I were to bring this build into WvW, where I could use foods..I could utilize the 50% faster endurance gain nourishment, then quite possibly make a build that’s sole purpose is to infinitely dodge and hold up supply camps.
Any thoughts on how to improve this “lulz” build?
