Tested this with my engi and rifle. This doesn’t seem to work. Is it only some classes? I would be interested to see a warrior of similar build but human and see if its just Asuran.
There has always been a PvP team working on features! (I know because I’ve been on it forevs)
Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I don’t believe you. I was so excited several months ago on a ready up where you guys showed map creation and some of the cool stuff. But I haven’t seen anything yet! Nothing!
I always read all the speculation and we all get excited, especially when you think a new race or class will be added. Tengu, Koden, Druids, Wardens, Paragon’s, Devish and much more could be added and make a bunch of us go super nerd. But so far the last 2 years plus I have played this game I have been disappointed most updates/ patches. Living world was ok but not great for me. The Changes in April were good and I was thankful for most of them. I Cant wait till Tuesday! but at the same time I am geared for disappointment.
no. they would have to make new personal story missions for levels 1-30 and record new voice acting for all of them from 1 to 80. they would also have to refit ALL of the existing armor skins for the new race, unless they cheap out and the race uses a model that’s mostly identical to existing races. they would also have to add in new racial abilities, three new racial armor tiers(9 new skin sets), racial weapon skins. never mind the fact that each race in this game has their own city.
this isn’t something that can be added in a content patch of this size. it’s just too big of a change.
These may all be things in progress for the last year! Maybe thats why we have seen very little other then the living story. Just saying, never know!
Tumblr is horrible! IMO but I joined anyway cause its GW2!
Mordremoth! I say this because a few days ago the wiki was updated with some info about Scarlet and her plans of waking Mordremoth. Hopefully an epic season unlike last years.
This is either going to be the most Epic day (July 1st) or a huge let down. All this speculating and theory makes me so excited. So Excited I started spending a lot of time reading lore. Cant wait!

*Edit
I think there’s something off with the numbers. Checking on the PvP area, it’s
Rifle Turret: 476
Flame Turret: 127
Rocket Turret: 1429
Thumper Turret: 635base damage without RTB on Heavy armored golems.
I think I pretty much just used the numbers in the wiki to run the math, rather than actually testing per-shot damage on the golems (due to then having to qualify what armor level the damage is calculated against, or calculate against all three armor types), so some inaccuracy wouldn’t be terribly unexpected. What is kind of unexpected is Rocket Turret dealing more damage, given most of these numbers being lower; which armor type were these showing up against?
These numbers were appearing on Heavy armor golems per shot. The wiki is terribly off in terms of base damage for some of the turrets.
260% increase from the wiki for the rifle, rocket, and thumper turret.
The damage per shot of the auto attack for the Rifle’s Hip shot is an average of 460, while the Pistol’s auto attack is 220ish without bleeding damage. These numbers were taken on heavy armor, traited into the vitality and toughness line and using celestial gear.
I hate to say it but the numbers are really way off on your post.
Just looking at these numbers isn’t going to give you an accurate count. You are forgetting several factors.
1. Cast time
2. turrets fire rate/ Cast time. Each turret has slower or faster casting time
3. if destroyed each turret has a slow reset time
Rocket turret fires at a slower rate then rife turret for example. Nothing wrong with the damage, Each turret is different from casting time to duration. Turrets are really not that strong.
This is a learn-to-play issue, compounded by a particularly limited game mode wherein holding a point is a major objective.
Looking at the sPvP’s wiki page, I notice that holding a point for ten seconds is worth as much as getting a kill; thus, if it takes longer than ten seconds to find, and kill, an enemy, it’s time that would have been better spent holding a point.Learn-to-play aspect: Why are they ignoring the Turrets, and why should Turrets be nerfed because they don’t bother to destroy them? They aren’t that tough, even traited, and a full complement of them can raise the Engineer’s DPS by a fair amount, as well as providing boons and CC, depending on traits. The cooldowns are also substantial, and if the Turrets are destroyed, they won’t be reduced by 25% like they would if they were picked up. AoE erases them.
Game mode aspect:
When a combat is immobile, and based on survival, Turrets will naturally be well-suited, due to their own immobile natures and the fact that Turret grandmasters are exclusively found in survivability-boosting traitlines. Turrets are designed to hold a point, to create area-denial. Of course that’s what they’re going to be good at. Fighting a Turret Engineer in a box is not supposed to work out well.If the fight is mobile, as most in every other game type are, a Turret Engineer with all their turrets deployed is essentially half a character outside of Turret range, which maxes at 1500 with RTB. Can an sPvP fight be mobile? Sure, but if it takes more than ten seconds to secure a kill, that is, again, time that could have been spent holding point instead.
In short:
- People need to learn to destroy the Turrets.
- The game-mode rewards holding points more than killing foes.
- Turrets are designed to be good at holding points, and their users tend to be tanks.
Nerfing Turrets because they’re good at what they’re designed to do, in a gamemode designed to disproportionately reward exactly what Turrets are designed to do, is absurd, and would pretty much kill the skillset in every other game-mode.
I agree, I have played turret engineer since the game came out (finally good enough to play in TPvP). Kill the turrets kill the engineer. I play Turret Engineer every night and every night people run straight at me basically standing on my flame turret or thumper turret trying to smash me down. However I don’t stand around long and tracking me down is tough because you have decided to run in on my turrets and try to spam some sort of control on me. There are several strategies to killing the turret engineer, running straight in is not one of them!
They need to add a shotgun legendary, or some sort of huge cannon, like scarlets kiss, but with non-ugly colors.
Agree! I use Scarlets Kiss and love the look on my asuran engi. I wish you could at least dye your weapons other colors.
Seems spot on to what I have manually tracked for the last 2 weeks. Thanks guys!
Saw a link the other day where I was able to pull up my stats in TPvP and SoloQ. I can’t seem to find it now. It was very cool showed me my highest rank and win loss totals for each day. Anyone know this site?
I think its a great idea. But I think increasing it to 10 points a kill would be a safe level.
Well as much as I understand that rolling a new toon is an option, I rolled norn guardian because of reasons which I cant remember anymore. I’ve got alot of stuff on him and dont want it all to go to waste…
Then sell the stuff that can be sold, delete the character, and make a new one.
I can sell the stuff, but I have no interest in exploring the whole world again…
My point exactly. I wish this was an option I would pay for it.
I don’t find managing turrets hard what so ever. Managing 3 kits and all of their cooldowns to be able to properly combo fields at the right time is what I’m used to on my eng though. Turret eng is to eng as minion necro is to necro.
AI and passives have been buffed, actives have been nerfed. This has lead to very poor balancing in terms of skill. Boring.
I dont agree, Turrets like minions are AI dumb. They have delays and pathing is always an issue. I use the word AI dumb because there are times where I die because my turrets didn’t respond like they should. Turrets and minions have cool downs as well that effect you in many different situations. Trust me I own my fair share of fellow turret engi’s because the play like you suggest. If you stand there and pray your turrets and minions take care of the situation for you then you have no skill and trust me you will die to most all the come at you. If you manage your turrets by picking them up when needed and destroying them when the situation calls or planning a head and setting off the overcharges you will dominate. That can be said of every class in this game for the most part.
I agree with Dahkeus, This meta is the best yet in my opinion.
Yes I play a turret engi and have done so since the game launched. I remember the good times and the bad times. I see a vast diversity of engi’s running around. Turrets to bombs and even grenades. Everyone screams that we are this op class but let me tell you we are not. Managing those turrets is more difficult then you think. I could go into details but that could take some time.
What I really wanted to say is instead of being frustrated with the current meta lets brain storm some ideas on how to make what we currently have. Everyone is quick to complain but few ever sit back and provide constructive feedback that the dev team can use. Sure there are a lot of other posts that outline things everyone wants but want and need for this games meta are two completely different things.
So I ask if you have only 2 things to fix the current meta and they can’t involve removing a current meta build what would it be?
Regardless its hot join. If your looking for a even match up or something close hot join is not the place to get it.
Second this whole thing could be fixed if they remove those extra servers they created when hot join was overran by all the pve players after patch.
I don’t feel its dead. It is very normal for things to slow down a bit this time of year. Kids are preparing for the end of school, mom and dad are busy preparing for graduations and summer vacations. Also when the patch in April came out there as a flood of PvE players that came to play, I would venture to say there where a few who decided to stop playing with us in PvP for what ever reason. It also maybe depends of time of day. I play mostly evenings and SoloQ and TeamQ are popping with very little wait especially in TeamQ. Hot joins are busy too however matches are unbalanced most of the time because of the extra servers added. Its time to take some of those added hot join servers away. Overall I don’t see it being dead.
On topic you are accurate. This issue got worse when Anet added more hot join servers for those who complained there wasn’t enough servers to play on. What this really meant was that some players wanted to play 2v2 and 3v3 and some of the high servers you will see this happening. When there where less servers the teams where as about even as they will get in HotJoin. Anet need to remove some of the servers they added.
This to me is more the players fault. Rank is more then likely similar and matchmaking trys to balance players out by performance or MMR not class. Balancing by class in this situation would have caused a lopsided team as well. Honestly too many players play thief and warrior in soloQ. Only way to fix it I believe would be to add a few additional classes for more would roll other classes. These are the two most popular classes in this game and in many other games. Warriors are always tops in most games.
I enjoy this build. Engi has always been my fav class but I hated that turrets where useless. I love this build and have so much fun playing it.
Real problem here started when they added more servers because a handful of people complained about it. The ones that complained where the ones that wanted to farm hotjoins instead of playing them for fun. Or these are the people you see in the high servers playing 1v1 or 2v2.
Anet needs to delete servers that where added to balance it back out. Hotjoin was at its best right after the patch came out because they where full and people where waiting to join and play and every match was 5v5 and ver competitive. I would rather sit out a match to get 5 balanced matches and have fun playing.
Please fix it Anet! All will be vain if you don’t!
hotjoin means nothing so it doesn?t matter.
what does soloQ or tQueue “mean”? all of this is a game.
and hotjoin does matter, among others that is supposed to be the place to test and practice builds.
I have to agree its becoming a huge problem in hot join. I am starting to have way less fun because its always unbalanced (4v5 90% of the time). People trying to even it out is even worse. This issue stated when more servers where added. Now there are to many servers and many with people playing 1v1. Hotjoin should be 5v5 with some people watching and waiting to get in the action. Adding more servers was a huge error and one made for those who want to pick a server no one plays in so they can 1v1 or something else. If you want to play something else you should create your own server for that instead of adding more servers. Anet needs to remove some servers. I would rather sit a match out then have all the imbalance created when more servers where added.
I have played this map a lot recently and I haven’t noticed this happening. I will keep an eye open now that you have mentioned it.
Call me crazy, but I do believe some info about the next update, even if it’s just “hey, we’ll give you a potato in 4 weeks” would calm down the people impatience… such is the gw2 community hunger.
While we’d love to give you a time and date of when we’re sending out the potato, remember that during the development process we may discover that a baked potato would be even better. So instead of getting the potato of your dreams you end up with something completely unexpected.
It often happens that a mashed potato with gravy is even better still, unfortunately gravy requires more dev time. So we end up shipping a mashed potato without gravy to meet our promise of ship time or we push back the time and date of when we are shipping again and again. You get your mashed potato with gravy but it is delivered much later than it was expected.
Worst of all that is when we realize that potatoes are way too mainstream and that yams are where it’s at now. And I think we all know how reactions seem to go when we ship yams instead of potatoes.
So in a lot of cases the best we can do is tell you that we are still in the kitchen cooking things up, we’re reading your feedback, and that we’re excited to get the meal out to you soon™.
best response ever!
All 8 of my toons are my mains! (one of each) Especially in pvp where I can play what ever the team needs. I do have my favorites I play more then others but that changes from month to month. Or as balance shifts.
I really like your ideas especially the ones about different game types or modes. That being said it sounds like you need a break and thats ok. Most games of this caliber require a break. Post like this make me laugh because its obvious you don’t pay attention to all the communications between Anet and the player base. Do you watch the “ready ups”? I ask because a few months ago they showed us different maps and modes being created and they hinted that these would be available sometime this year. MY second points is the Dev’s have communicated that there has been a lack of communication because they where preparing for their launch in China. Thats a huge player base and a lot of money for them to use to develop more content.
I believe that by the end of summer we will see some more great content much like the the last one. These guys have big plans and GW2 is not going anywhere. I have been very critical of Anet this last year but this last patch was a huge step in the right direction. I believe there are more of these coming and there was hint last year of an expansion and can see a ton of new content coming from that.
So take a break and we will see you soon!
All is not Vain!
I wouldn’t say no one likes it. We just need a change.
If you pick the right track in Pvp you get more then enough dragonite ore. I play 2-3 hours each night and have over 2k dragonite just since the patch on the 15th. If I had focused on the track’s that say they drop dragonite the whole time I would have 3 times more then I do. Not all track’s have dragonite ore drops.
good idea! I hadn’t thought of this. I usually play my other glasses in hot join for a few hours before I queue up for solo or team. But I would bet many don’t. Great suggestion!.
The team queue is also broken. Yesterday I saw a matchup of a premade “outplayed by children” (one of the top 4 NA teams) vs 5 pugs.
How can that even happen???
I have been in a pug group and done this many times. Just cause your a top team doesn’t mean you never lose. When I play teams like this me and my friend sit on there home point adding pressure to the pre made they didn’t expect. but this had nothing to do with the topic they got paired with people there own MMR.
I would be happy if matchmaking stopped putting all the same classes on the same team. I think the current system is working just needs a tweak. My suggestions is to balance out the classes as well. Not sure its possible to make the current system check class and balance it out the best it can but I think this would fix most of the issue here. usually when I get a lopsided match its because I am on the team with 4 thief’s or a team of all mesmers. Class balance in these games is essential for a balanced game.
Rewards are the same, same reward track. However like Flumek said you can only complete 25% each day in hot join. Its worth doing some hot join each day especially if your losing more games then you are winning.
Nope! Only with the ability to ridicule a game that, 2 years in, still hasn’t put up basic pvp infrastructure and multiple pvp modes, yet ‘aspired’ for espawts before it was even released!
That will definitely suffice!
… And I’d like to utilize that ability =P
I have watched the “Ready ups” the Anet team is doing each week on Twich. There are episodes where they talk about the new game types and maps they are working on. In one episode they even show some of these maps. Just be patient or take a break and check back in later in the summer.
Don’t forget Moa! lol
What I really think the issue is here is balance. The matchmaking system doesn’t balance the game very well even with the increase of players. Any time the other team is more balanced then you they have better odds at wining. When you have 2 thief’s you can usually rack up 5 points per kill but 99% of Thief players regardless of experience don’t hold points or assist in holding points. Lets face it the mode in pvp right now is about holding those points.
Considering that matchmaker hasn’t changed in months, the influx of new players isn’t going to suddenly make it better. Right now the equation doesn’t take into account classes etc.
It seems we wont be getting any changes until possibly when Anet starts up content patches.
You have a good point, however I have been apart of many discussions with Dev’s about the reasons matchmaking seems to not be work. One of those was the lack of players the system has to match against each other. But your right the system doesn’t account for class and it should.
If you have more than 2 thieves the only way you will win is if you are simply much better than the enemy team (or if their team comp is just as bad).
Multiple mesmers usually same story. Ele’s however can do really well now, and 2 eles on a team is not a bad thing anymore.
I agree with you. Thats why balance is so important. Almost every situation calls for a balanced team. The team with the most balance wins I bet 60% of the time. Then the team with the most experience wins 30% of the time leaving 10% to bad luck. My point with these numbers of nonsense is that we need matchmaking balance out classes when matching people up. I find it worse when i get all guardians on my team then when I get two thief’s. But that being said If just one of those thief’s is terrible and runs around aimlessly trying to kill people off point and not succeeding then you almost always win. If you have two thief’s on your time they mush communicate with each other and back cap and assist in holding points especially home point. Cycling back around from mid or far to assist with the home point is very helpful.
The goes for all classes but especially thiefs because basically the team with the most thiefs loses atm.
Wrong. The Team with most PvE guys loses.
I don’t think most pve players play thief, I could be wrong but i bet I’m not. I belong to a very large guild that does tons of dungeons and fractals every night and I never once saw a thief. Maybe a few in WvW but not doing much else.
I have asked this questions as well. Maybe just a better spec. Not sure but I use to have no issues with mesmer but now if Im not careful the burst is crazy.
You guys didn’t get a single point? No reward seems appropriate then. The point should be to win not earn rewards. If you want rewards play something else. We play to win here in GW2! Just my opinion however.
No offense but if your unhappy take a break from the game. When you buy a bad game for your Xbox or Playstation do you keep playing it? NO! You move on to a new game or take a break. MMO’s especially I think its very healthy to take a break when the game is effecting you. Complaining and writing posts about how stuff sucks especially without any constructive feedback is just damaging to the community. Its great to read posts that have feedback and good suggestions for solving the issues and then engaging others to talk about it with a constructive and open mind. Problem is we don’t do that here on the forums very often. Mainly all I read is how I hate this and remove this. All is not vain and if you feel it is “take a break”
I understand the need to punish leavers and afkers, but anet you need to tweak this system. First, it doesnt work. No one “leaves” a match because theyre losing. People that leave usually have conection issues, actual players that want to leave the match just afk at spawn.
Second, people are being punished for your server inestability. People that crash or cant enter a tourney are the ones getting the debuff. Ive been around for a while and remember the good ol days of the loading screen boss; just imagine the amount of dishonorable i wouldve got back then.
There are 3 simple solutions for this. The best way would be to actually respond to reports on afkers, and have a human being judge if the leaver is deserving on the dishonorable debuff. I know this would require too many resources, so the second solution would be a smaller penalty, you leave one match you get 1hr timeout. People can /spit at you and know youre a leaver for that hour and your head can cool off from wtv reason it was you left. I think the best solution would be to remove the dishonorable debuff alltogether. Leavers are not that big of a problem, and a lost match wont kill anyone. Its not like this game will ever be esports anyways.
I have to disagree with most of your statement and ideas. Most of the 4v5 and leavers are people who don’t like the map of the team structure. I believe Anet knows this info and has determined that its an issue but not a huge problem. You get several dishonors before your locked out and thats great because if for some reason you do crash you still get to play. At the same time if you run crap internet or computer and your crashing all the time you are effecting others trying to play and don’t deserve to play. The dishonor system seems to be working for the most part I am sure there are exceptions. If you feel that your disconnects because of the server are causing you dishonor and lock outs you should submit a ticket. Im sure Anet can see what happened and correct it. Not saying your ticket will be top priority or that it will get answered but thats a different topic. I have only crashed once since the patch and that was last tuesday when the patch came out. I have top of the line internet tho but an average computer. If your having issues I suggest looking at your set up.
However I so wish that when you report someone there was an option for AFKers. I dislike quitters and hate when someone goes AFK because the match isn’t going there way. Many times just yesterday my team didn’t give up after being down 100-200 points in a match and we won!
Good luck and I hope this issue clears up for you.
I like the new rewards, except when I get “Rock”. Great update and love the reward track. I play about 90% PvP but being able to get those items need to craft ascended gear is great because I do run some dungeons and WvW with my guild each week and its neat that I have a opportunity to gear up like they do with my work in PvP.
I noticed this many months ago Spazz. I now use my #1 skill and suck some life from them then fear. Works 90% of the time in that rotation.
I would be happy if i just didn’t get it every match! or 3 in a row.
biggest waste of developer resources imo. oh and capricorn.
Made me so happy when they came out and said they removed Capricorn!
Agreed. I’m not sure why these are still in solo queue.
because as stated in the past we are not the majority of players. lol
I play 90% PvP every week and Since the patch I have noticed more newcomers being toxic then the guys that have been around. In matches the same. I know this because I pop out and back in to servers and watch that player who is usually below rank 20. I am sure there are some vets that are causing someone grief but listen the experienced player isn’t going to hear from a sub level 20 about how to win! I have spent a few hours this week watching some matches and seen this behavior more then a few times. I have seen guys crying foul at experienced players and calling them names or cheats. Funny thing is some of these players don’t swap weapons and has the default build. All in all I don’t thing the blame here is on the experienced players because I see far less of these types of behaviors from the vets.
Example of this happened to me last night. I was helping by directing traffic to open points on the map for capture and one guy said " Who are you our boss" and then proceeded to tell me that I sucked. Keep in mind I was very pleasant and not once was belittling or trying to point anyone out. After the match I popped out of the server and back in to watch said player and he was level 11. lol
