I think taking input from the people on this forums is a horrible idea. Especially since I believe thats what Anet has been doing since early into release causing a lot of imbalances. To me the game seems more unbalanced then it did at launch or shortly there after. What this game needs badly for almost all aspects of the game but especially PVP is a test server. Sure the feedback of the community is important but a test server where players can be invited to play in matches and tournaments to find bugs and issues with balance would allow for proper adjustments.

Sorry, i meant people that have a clue, not the 90% of the average joe player.

Exactly my point as to why a test server is needed! Not everyone would have access to it and constructive feedback would be required to keep you privileges on test server.

Do we need to put our PvP armor in our locker on 3/17 so it can get “converted” or can we leave it on our characters? I spent a lot of time getting my PvP characters armor the way I want and I would like to be able to bring that look over to PvE Land.

After watching the dev stream about glory it makes it sound like anything not in our lockers will not get the same benefits as what is in our lockers.

Also, why do I have to use up all my PvP crafting materials (again, referring to comments made on the dev stream)? Will I not be able to craft PvP related gear after 3/18? Or, is it because crafted gear after 3/18 was not in my locker during “the conversion” so I can’t bring it to PvE Land?

Would love to know the answer to this as well! I have worked very hard to collect everything I can. I also am holding off on many skins to convert because I am afraid I will lose them or not be able to use them in certain areas of the game!

Agree 100! This should be the top of the chart when it comes to fixes and PvP. But today I feel very negative about the state of this game and some resent comments from Dev’s.

Balance for every PVP game is a huge deal and there is always a class that is stronger then another. I would hate to be on the team responsible for balance in PVP because to me I feel that there is never a correct fix because the game evolves every time someone finds a spec that is good and posts it on the web for everyone else to copy and use.

Its not perfect but IMO its still the best out there at the moment! I can’t wait to see what is on the horizon with PVP I just hope it doesn’t come to late. I am dedicated to GW2 and PVP but there are some titles coming soon that will slow it down a bit I fear.

I have to disagree with most of what you said or maybe just the tone I hear you reading this before you hit “post reply”

I have played a MM necro since the launch of this game and we have seen our fare share of buffs but we have also seen our fare share of nerfs as well. Funny thing I hear all the time people crying about the MM necro doesn’t have to play or do anything because the pets do all the work. Thats wrong I get owned plenty of times. This class like many others have to be played correctly to win. The issue lies with many of the other classes and I have posted many suggestions probably much like you on ways to fix it. There are many ways to kill the MM Necro. You either have to burst them down quickly or if your a bit tanky you need to focus on some of the pets first. Crowd control and locking the MM Necro down in one spot is key to killing them. I will say that once a fight starts if you mess up and attack me first or the wrong pet and you give me time to start dodging around gaining momentum and time to lay down conditions and heals I will win every time but not because of my pets but because you either have the wrong build or you made a mistake. I have a lot of pvp experience in this game with almost every single class. I have 80s of each class and familiar with most of the classes mechanics. To play this game you can’t push buttons you have to time certain attacks and use them as I believe the mechanics of the game are intended. I get a few nasty tells in game from time to time about how I suck because I play MM Necro and its funny to me because most of the time they are very poor players or much lower rank then I am.

I do agree that the team in charge of pvp content for this game has done a poor job and there are some balances needed but to me its not the MM Necro that needs fixed because any player with a good spec that knows how to play their class can absolutely beat a MM Necro. MM Necro has no stability and if you are specced like me and most are you kill the healer pet and well no heals for the necro. Many disadvantages to playing the MM necro. Yes its nice to have the pets but lose the right one and your dead. It sucks too because you really have no control over what the pet does of goes.

That being said hopefully you didn’t take anything I said personal. I do hope there are some New and exciting changes for us in Pvp this year. I have a feeling there are some great ideas coming I just hope they don’t come to late.

Honestly I agree with “The Sober Ninja” I like this map. Yes there are better maps as in Foefire like Liewec mentioned. I even have some bad runs like everyone else in solo queue in Skyhammer. However that being said I don’t believe this map is a bad idea. This map is broken currently IMO because of balance issues and lack of Stability by some classes. As someone said above poor specs and play lead to horrible play on this map. Yes just like all the cry babies I hate being pulled, pushed or feared of the edge. But about half the time thats on my poor choice of positioning or sometimes its the lack of stability my class or spec has. Before all the classes that have these tricks to get you off side of the map it wasn’t as frustrating as it is now because no one specced for it, I don’t blame the map I blame some of the other issues mentioned above.

Personally I would like to see the map stay in the rotation its in but I would like to see some changes to the map.

1. I would increase the time a few seconds that the glass breaks on the floor. This would prevent every thief and Engineer from grabbing you and pulling you to that spot on the floor with no time to react. This increase in time would give everyone a chance to roll or move off the point before it breaks.

2. I also think that the cannon’s blast should be dodged. This I believe would eliminate peoples hate a bit for the map.

3. Finally I would like to see some of these balance issues we have seen in other posts on the forums. Not only will they make this map better but all the maps better.

Listen, there is a lot of pride in this map as you can see by the video a few weeks back about pvp maps. They spent the whole time talking about creating Skyhammer and how proud they where of the map. To me that means its not going anywhere. So I suggest that we talk about how we can help these guys improve the map instead of getting rid of it. Because face it this map isn’t not going anywhere.

Noobs ruined Hot-join Game-play Experience

Ideas:
1) Arena should segregate hot-join players in term of their range of levels.
Example, 0-15. 16-29,30-40,40-80
No fun for noobs either if all they get is being slaughtered by higher rank players in hot-join. Arena, you don’t put a cat with a bunch of huge raging fighting lions in the same cage don’t you?

2)Noobs can enter higher rank game as a viewer instead. To learn, if they wish to.

At the moment, yeah, noobs ruined hot-join pvp game play experience, either for themself, or for veteran players.

I agree with you that new players are a concern and I like your idea above. Especially when everyone is level 30-50 and each side has a low level 20 or even10. However Last night I was in several matches with low level players and in some cases the low level players where out playing the higher level players. That being said I think the two issues ruining any Pvp mode, is the lack or refreshing new ideas and balance. Nothing is worse then teams of HamBow Warriors and that Engi that just knocks you back over and over again. Sure there are 100 other things wrong Im sure but these are the two things IMO that are impacting not only the quality of matches in tournaments and Hot-Join but many players have grown tired and board moving on to other things or even back to other games buying time. I know a group of guys that played pvp everyday last year and have gone back to games far worse then GW2. GW2 is a good game to make it great we need some new ideas! Sometimes that may mean a change in employees or a shuffle of employees. Seems to have been a lack of comments from Dev’s in the pvp section of the forums but I can’t blame that at the same time. I don’t like to converse with people that are angry and mad. I pray everyday that new PvP content is just around the corner. Ill keep playing and praying!

We already have to wait to long for the next patch. March is it? Whats another month to wait for ESO to launch and kill pvp. There is what, 3 full NA teams that can get a constant 5 people to play with. Everyone else is just a pug group of 1-4 people and will very rarely win vs a set 5 who play together all the time.

March is the last month for “The Living World”. Recent post said that pvp content will be after “The Living World” events are over. My guess is in April or May for anything Pvp related.

There is two things we have seen on the forums.

1. “There are big things coming”
2. PvP has its own team.

If that is true why is there nothing till after living world? This game has been out over a year now and Nothing Big has come out. PvP guys must have vacation till after the living world stuff is over because they work on Pvp and there are separate teams for PvE content. Sure I know all these Dev’s are just the game content politicians and get directive from somewhere higher up. But stop feeding us lines about Big things coming and making excuses. Cause really I don’t care, What I care about are improvements and ground breaking changes. We have seen nothing but regression since launch on this game. Only thing Big that has come out in PVP was the leader boards and well I don’t need to express my concerns about that not do I?

I would be interested. I can play either of these classes your looking for. I can adjust builds for what ever your looking for. Guardian I have 190 wins with Thief I have around 90 wins. I play around 7pm MST each night till midnight or later and on the weekends I play pretty much most the day and night around 12 hours total play time. I play about 90% Pvp daily. I have wanted to get a serious team together to compete for some time just never found a group interested in putting in the time it requires. Again I can play what ever you would like and could practice as much as I can. I play mainly Neco the last several months and usually hold mid point well on most tournament maps. I just got my 300th win with necro. But again I would be willing to play what is needed and practice with said class to make sure our team would be the best. Ask any questions you would like. thanks

I have an 80 of each class and play them all. Happen to be playing Engi cause I wanted to try out this new spec I recall seeing called Static boom. Very fun and I did well however you can only do what you can when match ups are so unbalanced at the moment.

Some recent responses stated that some “big changes” where coming after “The Living World” stuff ends. So we should some some nerfs in April and by July we should see the new pvp booster! Joking of course but they have been saying “BIg Changes” are coming for months now and each months passes with little to nothing. So I guess we will have to wait to see what happens in April!

Well been at this game since launch and have been very supportive till late. I still cant believe the team is going to wait till after living world to come to work and do something. Played just over 50 matches this weekend and went from top 200 on the leaderboard to off the leader board. I have 15 4v5 matches this weekend and 5 matches where the other team was all warrior and 6 matches where the other team was all Engi. The balance is getting worse, Im sure whatever formula these guys have for this sort of thing is broken. Love GW2 but the PvP devs should be ashamed of them selves. The Mists have been a ghost town for the most part something less then 10 waiting. I have had queues over 20 mins this weekend. Skyhammer has become engi wars and the rest of the maps have been warrior beast mode. I can go on and on but really no one cares. Im sad about this and Im sure by the time something happens this game will be at a point where they will start merging servers. There are some great titles coming out in the next 90 days and I imagine that by day 91 the queues will be even worse. Below is a picture of my last match for the night. Another 4v5 and as you can see we where outranked a bit as well. Please Dev’s you need to jump on the ball and do something about the state of PvP. Stop giving gems to the guys promoting PvP and stream live garbage and clean it up. I mean really after “The Living World”!

Underpowered for month now – but thats not my point.
The point is, why does it take for ages until something is changed ?

Yeah, changes like altering all Sigils / Runes – or the reward system , they need time and thats okay.

But balance changes ( i dont mean changes that destroy or make some profession OP ) , i mean just some numbers to make certain unused traits / utils / Builds viable again.
Why does it take so long ?

All Iv seen for months now when a question like this is asked are excuses as to how passionate they are about this game and pvp and how BIG CHANGES are coming. Face it We won’t see anything till April after the living world is done. Till then the pvp team is on vacation.

Well in fairness, they did fix the gate issue on foefire and the treb issue on kyhlo. Those were definitely important.

I too like the finishers but that is hogwash when it comes to PVP. I am also glad they finally fixed these bugs. As stated above there is a group that creates those outside the pvp team. As far as future patches as mentions above we have to wait till April or May to see those. By then 2 other games focused on pvp come out. Not only do they offer Pvp they detail exciting and new things. Very frustrated with the lack of dedication this game has to its pvp. I know we have some guys who are on the pvp team that are very passionate but passion doesn’t create new content. PVP need huge changes and fast. I fear they will not come soon enough.

I have found recently that chat is pointless however I do get a much better response when I ping the map. I think people are so caught up in playing typing is not practical. Pinging the map is the new “I need help button”.

That being said. Only thing I liked about pvp in Neverwinter was the build in chat they have. Worked awesome in pvp.

I have to disagree with the main sentiment of this post. The Devs for PVE, Living world and dungeons have done a good job. Far better then 98% of the games out there currently. They are very creative and not afraid to try new things. Who ever is in charge of the PVP side of the game is failing. This will only become more visible as we get closer to some game releases in 2014. Many of which are promising PVP content and talking about creative new ideas for it. It sickens me that as stated in other post back in October, we as a community where told big things where coming and then again in November and then again in December. Followed with the news that there is nothing of significant value coming out till after living world (3 months from now). I want to share just a few points below as to what I think is wrong with the game and how I think they can fix it as it relates to PVP.

1. No test servers. This is the first game I have played with such large scale PVP without a test server. Create a test server!

2. Balances among all classes- again a test server would help this. Players could spend a few hours a month testing upcoming changes and provide feedback. There is no reason that with a dedicated PVP team there can’t be changes to balance each month. Sure there will be some lag at first but once you have a test server and start collecting data you should be able to pump out changes on a regular basis.

3. different game modes- Even if there is only Three people on this PVP team, one person working 40 hours a week should be able to add something new and exciting every quarter. A new arena or game mode 4 times a year. I know that the guys that work on GW2 PVP have creative ideas its time you guys start working on them.

You know this game is still my favorite game and I don’t wine or cry often on the forums. However lately I have found myself doing just a little more each month. I feel like there has been many examples this year of misguided promises about PVP from the Devs involved. I have played this game almost everyday after work since release, I spend at least $50 each month on gems to support not only my habits but this game. PVP a year later is still just an after thought. When I first started I hoped it would become a huge part of this game, a huge success. I still hold out hope and I sure hope the Devs do read the 100s of post the last two days. If I ran my business like this I would be preparing to explain the 40% decrease in business this year.

Its time guys to leap the the next level and soon. You need an outlined game plan and you need to do something creative soon otherwise you will be on the inside looking out saying " what next" When ncsoft cuts funding or jobs. You guys cannot afford to lose the percentage of people who play this game just to pvp. Sure they don’t pay the bills but they do keep the extra member on staff and those extra lights on in the office. My purpose is not to belittle or to draw any negative to the devs personally because well lets face it we don’t know what the directive is behind your doors. This player base has been scream and pleading with you for a year now to help them keep their needs alive here in GW2.

In 3 months I wont have time to play anymore.

Agreed, there are new games coming out in the next few months that I believe will impact this game by the second quarter. If Anet is paying for pvp devs to create and fix content for pvp I am not to sure what they have done that fills a 40 hour work week.

I can’t believe what I am hearing from you. Really after the living word garbage. You guys put all your efforts this year into that silly garbage over pvp updates and improvements. Now your telling me 3 months at least before we see anything new. Well sir I think that is a huge mistake. Sure me and a few others leaving cause we are tired of the same ole same ole isn’t going to close the game down. But listen there are two very good games coming out maybe more. Wildstar and the Skirim or what ever its called come out soon and before your pvp changes and balances are happening. At this point by the time you guys do something with your pvp many of your pvp player will be gone playing one of these games. Maybe your not worried about it but your player base will when its 45 mins for a queue in solo of team tournaments.

When you have 45 mins waits in queue players get board with they get board they troll other player. When they troll other players the grid goes out. When the grid goes out your dad gets punched for a can of soup. don’t let your dad get punched over a can of soup. You guys should do something much sooner. There are some big titles coming out and some good pvp material in other games coming out as well. Would hate to see this game die especially in pvp.

There are two things that can cause that sort of behavior.

  1. The concurrency at the time you play. As concurrency drops, so does the quality of matchmaking because we have to cast a wider net to find a match.
  2. Your MMR is on or near the default MMR. When you are near the default you are more likely to be paired with new players. It could be that your MMR dropped, or raised, just enough to put you near the peak of the curve on one day. The more you play the less your MMR deviation should fluctuate, so you should start to see less variance.

The fact you had low rank players on you team, and the other team did not is just dumb luck. Only MMR is used when deciding which team someone should be on, so any other pattern is just random coincidence.

That said, we are working on changes to matchmaking that I believe will help reduce the skill gap between players. This will improve the quality of games for both new and veteran players alike.

Three matches today. Three sweeps.

Your matches have been even. You are on the high skill side of the curve and haven’t been getting any new players on any of your recent rosters. Both you and the people you’ve played with have had a stable MMR.

I don’t know what to tell you.

Useless PvP Crafting Materials

Any advice from the Staff, pls?

I hope some clarification comes. I have 15 stacks of 250 dust among many other pvp materials gained by breaking down the rewards. I also own almost one of every armor and weapon skin and would hate to lose my stock pile. I think about this situation every night when I play and every time I break stuff down in pvp I fear its all a waste. I wish someone could shed some light on this matter!

Just a reminder, solo arena match making works by sorting players by their MMR and then putting them into teams based on that order. (Exact pattern: 0 3 4 7 8, 1 2 5 6 9)

Any particular arrangement of ranks or professions is completely coincidental.

Future match making will reduce the chances of getting a match like this by reducing the number of duplicate professions and preferring players close to your rank.

Justin can you confirm what I mentioned above? Also can you give us an idea when these new rules for matchmaking take effect.

Especially when 1 team gets 2-3 guards/bunkers and the other one has none.

Can’t the MM system give both teams one of each profession, if there’s 2 times the same prof?

This is a player problem. Players can easily switch to other characters before the match starts, but everyone wants to do their own thing.

I believe I read somewhere last patch or the one before that you cannot change. ONce you enter a match at all you cannot make character changes. Someone even told me yesterday that you can no long swap weapons or skills including elites before the match starts one you accept and log in to the match. Maybe someone can confirm this.

I agree, vendor value seems to be the best solution.

  • we get the “universal” curency – GOLD!
  • it should also be easy to implement
  • same can be done for all the other useless pvp items…, maybe also for the skins… so we can actually sell skins we already got

I really like the idea of selling skins- Maybe even a place to trade in ones you have for ones you don’t have.

These are all great points. I have so many items from the pvp armor that I have it adding up in my personal vault. I have maxed out the pvp locker and filling up space in my vault just as fast. I play about 70% TPvP and 20% pve stuff and I have a lot saved up from pvp and I don’t want all that hard work to go to waste. I sure do hope them allow us to gain some benefits from breaking down all those items of a year +. I think a vendor that would maybe trade you a special chest for your stacks of stuff. Like in each chest is a small amount of silver, luck, and some crafting items that spill over into pve. I don’t care really about the what as I do about my stuff i have farmed from hours of pvp tournaments and solo queues. I don’t want these items to just be gone one day. I would like to see some sort of value assigned so i can trade this stuff in before the deadline.

As a Twitch follower of yours I am a bit curious to see this in action. Seems like a good build but I wonder how effective it would be in pvp. Again I would like to see it in some tournament play of even just some hot joins.

This whole thing makes me sad. I had my main I use for farming those rare goods at 150% with armor and such. Now the changes where good but now after a month of causal play I find myself at 55% magic find. More grinding I guess.

Listen for the most part things are pretty balanced. I have played all 8 classes in pvp. I see myself as a good player, I don’t suck and I am usually top score because I cap point and defend with my team mates. I recently started a thief that I have been playing for 30 days of so now in pvp. At first I thought this class is horrible or I just suck that bad at playing one. but after 100 or so rounds I have become significantly much better at the class. Now most matches I dominate and score big. I have people all the time sending me tells that I cheat and that my class is the easiest to play and they can’t wait for me to get nerft.

Fist off this is true of all the classes I have played in pvp, at first I am figuring things out doing research on builds and in most cases changing them a bit to fit my style of play. Again I have 6 80s and above rank 40 in pvp. I am not hard core like some I work 10 hour days 5-6 days a week. Its taken my free time to get good in pvp. I have never cheated in the game in fact I’m not sure I have ever even figured out a cheat in an mmo.

Listen if you are struggling in pvp and calling for everything to be nerft all the time I think you should step back and re-think your play style. I have watched hundreds of matches and played in thousands and I can tell you from my experience that usually the ones that call foul or nerf are the ones that are running around aimlessly trying to kill players in the middle of no where instead on a capture point. There are tips, tricks and best positions on every map and you have to use them all to be a great player. I have played against some of the very best and I have won a few and lost a few more. You have to work kitten your style and your build to play at that level and until you do you will continue to beat up the forum crying foul every time a thief kills you. The thief stealth thing isn’t why you lost. You lost because of the style in which you play. From mashing keys to using the mouse to click spells there is something your doing to kitten your self. The great part of this game is that no one can just by the game and tomorrow be the best in pvp. You have to practice and practice almost daily to be great.

final word: if MMo’s where meant to be 100% balanced in pvp there would be one class type and one build. This game has much to offer and I think its only going to become more advanced as they add more builds, more traits, and hopefully more classes over time.

I see no need for the tokens, I hated that system in WoW. If you do it for tokens (or rep, shards, trophies, points, etc.) it feels like a grind. I hated doing the daily quests for things like that in WoW and in Neverwinter Online, so I vote against this one.

good point, I like neverwinter but there are so many types of currency that it makes the game less compelling to me. We have the right amount now in GW2 thats why I suggest making it so you can buy what you need with Gems.

Save Skyhammer! One of the more exciting maps. and I too love shoving people off the side of the map! This map is about strategy and if your falling off the edge all the time you have a poor strategy on this map. Unlike other maps you can run around aimlessly you have to worry about position.

I guess you failed to read the bit about the imbalance between classes for getting people off the edge. That’s fine and dandy if that is the route Anet wants to go but at the VERY least make it even. Overhauling the map sounds a lot easier of a task vs tweaking every single class for one map.

I didn’t miss the points you did. I don’t even play this map with an ability that knocks anyone anywhere. I just make sure Im think two steps ahead and position myself so Im not blasted off the edge. Again this map is the most strategic map of the bunch and you can’t run around aimlessly like you can on all the other or you will be blasted off the edge or fall through a floor. Play smart and always be thinking about position. I have found this think also prevents putting your self in harms way a lot less on other maps.

Matchmaking

@ Shadowraid- are you playing tournament Pvp or hot join?

Hot join is what it is. However PvP the matchmaking is not very good either in my opinion. I get group with a ton of low ranked team members. Last night I was on a team where I was 38 and everyone else was under rank 10. sucks for me cause I have to usually explain that it doesn’t take 3 people to cap a point or that hold points is key to winning. Last night the match I was in I scored 230 points. Capped 11 points and killed 10 or so foes. All the other members of my team where under 100 points. I also ended up in 2 matches where the whole team where thief’s. Honestly I don’t see the balance in match making at all. Below are two examples of what I would fix.

1. Even out the classes in each match. ( all the thief’s shouldn’t be on the same team if the other team has everything other then Thief.

2. make a cap so tournament play can’t be played till glory level 10 or 15. I hate being grouped with a bunch of sub level 10’.

Yeah dont nerf the thief anymore please. out stealth is only 3-4 seconds and thats why the design is the way it is. Stealth would be rendered useless if every class had a way to break stealth.
