They are both equally useful.
I enjoy them both.
I play all 8 Professions. I uploaded a youtube video recently that shows you how they all play in a short 6 minute video. Check it out and see what may interest you!
Here is the linK:
Also if you are new to the game, I highly recommend you to check out this guide I wrote regarding Combat and how the mechanics work:

If you are new to the game, I highly recommend you check out this Thread that explains GW2’s Combat mechanics, Armor/Traits/Upgrades system, and it also has a video to show you how all 8 professions play in a 6min video attached to it.
All new players should probably check this out:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/GW2-Combat-system-101-Guide/first
Thanks for the support guys!
I have just updated the Guide!
Check out the new Video link I uploaded regarding ALL 8 professions executing
Damage/Control/Support
I am currently working on making a Youtube Video on all 8 Professions in Combat to give players a nice point of view on how each class players.
It’s like going to be a short 6 min.
So once I finish Uploading it, I’ll let you know so you can check it out.
Also all classes are versatile. I have a guide that you can check up on later.
It will never, ever work quite like a keyboard and a mouse.
The day I can zoom my camera in/out while turning the camera left, while strafing right, walking forward, turning my character left (which causes a tight circle to be ran around a target you always face) use any of my ten skills, open and close my inventory, call a target and hover the cursor over party members at the same time with a controller, I’ll think otherwise.
With that said, here’s probably the best/most popular settup around these days: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/forum/showthread.php?25192-Guild-Wars-2&p=66670#post66670
My Controller layout is better. lol
And works better than K&M.
Hello Mechanico
If you get on game soon enough, I’ll be able to help you out on choosing classes that just might work for your main.
=) Just whisper me.
You can add me to your friends list since I jump on all 8 classes constantly.
(I’m Never usually on 1 char) lol
So the OP want’s to completely GIMP himself in combat?
This makes no sense!
Go read my guide in GW2 Combat system 101… Seriously.
You’ll need to learn the basics OP.
Some Great news everyone!
=) I’m making a video on how all 8 classes apply Damage/Control/Support in GW2.
I’ll link the Youtube video with this guide when I’m finished!
Hopefully they help you see how each class plays out!
Stay Tuned!
I use Xpadder for my xbox360 controller.
I dont mind sharing it with you.
Catch me when im Online. I’ll be on this weekend
Hmm, very informative and clear. It’s a good place to start playing the game . . . it’s not everything, it’s not “all you ever need to know”, but it’ll get you started. The comment about “defense can’t cover up lousy play” is correct, but having more defense will help you survive learning how to play tight.
Also, there’s no permanent choices for your build. So once you do get better at playing, feel free to eschew defensive statistics in favor of more offense-related ones. Just be aware you’ll likely fall into the “glass cannon” category if you drop your defense too far.
Anyway! Have a +1.
You never wana choose “Traits Lines” based on those “Stat-Bonus” though.
Traits are good for building your character’s playstyle that fits your style of playing.
Then you want to gear up on: Armor/Amulets/Jewls/Runes Upgrades to Balance out your character on those Stats you are missing & enhancing your playstyle so you can deal lots of damage and have good survivability while executing your skills in Damage/Control/Support effectivly.
For example: If you’re using Traits Lines that DONT give you Vitality and Toughness , Then those are probably what you really need, so Gearing up for those is important.
However,
If you’re using Traits Lines that DONT give you Power & Condition duration, then you want to Gear up for those Stats instead.
Choosing Stats you need to balance up your playstyle is important.
The moment you are called a “Glass Cannon” in my opinion, I assume you are Gimped in a sense of Not having Damage Stats to help contribute Damage in a team.
And that is a problem.
Thanks for the comments guys! ^-^ Im glad the guide is helping you all out in becoming better and more skillful in the game.
Keep up the good work! <3
You can take screenshots by pressing the “Print” key on your keyboard.
If you want to take picture on your character ONLY and Not take pictures on the UI, you need to hide the UI.
Press F11 key → Go to Control Config → Then see which keys you need to press to hide the UI so you can take pictures without it showing.
P.S: I keybinded my Hide UI settings differently so I dont remember the defualt.
Hope that instruction helps.
Also you can view your pics on GW2’s folder under picture!
Im sorry but Down-leveling in the area you visit is a MUST.
You are playing an MMORPG, you shouldnt just be able to 1 shot everything other players try to lvl with.
The entire point of leveling up isn’t to be MORE POWERFUL…
The point of leveling in PvE is to explore, and unlock new areas (The higher lvl areas) to experience harder challenges in harder, and bigger zones.
We dont need Power Creep in GW2. It’s not healthy for the game.
To be honest, I’m not exactly new here, I’ve own Guild Wars 2 for quite a while. I play it now and then, but I’m enjoying it more than ever after I reached lv 30. I did some research on leveling and builds. I’m playing a condition thief and he’s lv 43 now. A random guild invited me but it seems like no one is ever online, so I can’t ask them for help. So I’ve got a some questions that I’d like to ask.
1. Is the condition build a good choice for a thief? FYI I’m soloing ALOT.
2. I want to try out the first dungeon but there’s no one willing to help me. Is it too early for me to enter the dungeon?
3. What do I do in WvW?
4. Should I find another guild? If so, how? (I’m in Yak’s Bend)
5. I’m leveling by doing heart quests, dynamic events and gathering. Is that the best way?
6. What armor should i aim for?
7. Should I try to max out the level, or do it gradually and enjoy exploring first? (BTW I love exploring in this game, it’s very well designed.)Thank you in advance!
If you can get online now, I might be able to help u out =)
I get the feeling there is more to this story then we are led to believe. Could be intentional, or simply obliviousness. People have the right to revoke contact if they feel annoyed. There are some irritating people out there and quite frankly, we should be aloud to choose who we talk to. Perhaps you were a little overly aggressive in how you communicated with these people? If a good number of people choose to cut off contact with you, perhaps it isn’t them that is the problem, it’s you?
Perhaps, but wouldnt it be better to at least know?
I mean it would be a lot nicer to know exactly what the issue is in the 1st place.
Thanks for the reply.
I just re-specced the traits on my warrior (no toughness LOL) and chose the trait bonus Deep Strike.
This adds +40 pre for each unused signet that I have equipped.
Now, whenever I activate a signet, I have 2-3 seconds where I cannot control my character. Cannot attack, cannot move or if I am moving I cannot stop her. Everything else moves as normal and once the trait has activated, it’s party time.
Now, I went onto the Hero screen and noticed that when I activate e.g. Signet of Rage, my crit chance goes from 54% to 74%, waits a second, then drops to 72% (because the signet is in use, I lose the Deep Strike +40pre bonus).
So, is Deep Strike lagging my control feed or something? Has anyone else had this issue?
Wait… No Toughness?
Your character is Not balanced bro. You need to balance it out.
Any class you enjoy is my suggestion.
All Classes do well in different ways in solos and team plays. Including PvP.
I play all 8 classes. You want to play a class you truly enjoy.
If you dont know, You can do some training in “The Mists” and see what works for you.
We can also meet ingame if u want, and maybe I can show u some classes u might be interested in? who knows.
thank you all for the awesome answers.. I guess my next question would be.. What are some incentives to keep playing at 80?
The enjoyment of PvE, PvP, and WvW content. (Because it’s fun to play with friends)
The awesome looking Armor/Weapon skins you want to obtain!
Training to be better at your class to compete with your friends in PvP.
etc.
Getting to lvl80 isn’t the goal. The goal is the entire journy you experience. If you enjoy it, getting to lvl80 would be the same as being lvl30+.
Play and have fun! See what enjoyable contents come out every month! A lot is happening and the game will be changing a lot.
It shows you posted this 4minutes ago.
If you get on game I dont mind showing u some stuff on how the Gear system works in better details.
Because truly, you look for different gear based on different traits you choose.
I dont mind going it over if you can log online. =)
Not a bug. Some may just not want your “help”?
Honestly, I doubt that’s the case considering majority did ask for my help.
But there was times I also just offered.
Either way, if that’s the case, that’s extremely being RUDE.
Breaking a friendship to someone who put time and effort in helping out is wrong.
Truly people like me who help others DONT deserve being blocked or treated this way. Considering there was No conflicts established. Makes no sense.
Anyways, it’s hard to tell who’s a friend and who’s a backstabbing leach now a days.
Anyone else experience this? Im quite Social btw so not sure if that has to do with anything.
This has been going on for a while but here is the problem I am noticing.
I have been helping out new players and vet players a lot. I’ve made friends with them, check up on them, and even socialize with them from time-to-time.
Next thing that happens: An unexpected “This player is Not Online” appears when trying to contact some of them on whisper. I try to Mail them a message and then I get an Error saying “This player has blocked you”
Seriously?
Last time I checked, I have NOT had any conflicts with any of my friends.
Not only does this confuse me, but it makes me wonder if this could be an actual Bug that needs to be gone asap. If it’s Not, then people in this community just like to use/abuse others for no reason and that really pisses me off.
I’m tierd of this Bug OR People abusing the Block feature.
Block players who are being jerks to you, Not players who are putting time and effort into helping you out of kindness.
(edited by DreamyAbaddon.3265)
As for everyone who’s yelling at me for signets: Tell that difference to the people who are starting dungeon runs, not me. If you know what you’re doing, it’s fine; most of the people who run signets, don’t.
It’s pretty bad when you get into a dungeon group as a Mesmer and see a Mesmer with 3 signets. Our signets aren’t even THAT good.
Currently, however, I run 2 signets. The reason why is because I can give everyone in the party 6-8 boons with 10-40 sec duration each every 36 seconds.
I know how you feel about signets. I understand the pain you are going through on that subject, however, This thread that the OP posted has nothing to do with signets and the Rules he mentioned actually has valid points. So let’s stay in subject and just talk about the rules He presented instead and Not bash people who use signets.
I get it, lots of people who use signets dont understand what they are doing and can be a pain, but thats why I support Rule#1.
Personally:
Rule #1 Press v.
Rule #2 Press 6.
Rule #3 Don’t run signets.
There is absolutly Nothing wrong with running signets
As long as it’s NOT the only thing you use, you are good.
4) You will go down, and it will be frustrating.
You will go down, and it will be frustrating. This will happen to all of us, even the greatest of us. All it takes is one missed dodge, one moment where you freeze, and down you go. Think of that moment for a second: You can see your life slowly dwindling away, you can’t move, you’re 3 and 4 haven’t popped up yet, and you’re left staring at the one who knocked you down watching as he marches ever closer, the Grim Reaper coming to crush the last breath from you. Remember how much that sucked? How frustrating it is to be powerless, knowing your end is coming the certainty that the sun will rise? But what if? What if you weren’t so crushingly, bitterly, hopelessly alone?
Enter your savior: They leap to your side as others rush the kitten who downed you. As the others fight him off, he kneels beside you and pulls you back from oblivion.
YOU CAN BE THAT HERO.
Whenever you see a teammate go down, help him any way you can. If you’re fighting off four others, toss out a buff so the others can get him while you fend off the horde. Or, if you can, help him yourself. Either way, if one of your own goes down, never ever ever give up on trying to bring him back. Just be careful when you do it, as it will toss you up to the top of the aggro chart, such as they are.Rule #5: Death blows: learn from it.
Let’s assume your teammates can’t manage to save you. You’re dead. You can’t resurrect at a waypoint and run back. You’re stuck there, twidling your thumbs till the fight is over or the rest of your team wipes……
Except, you’re not stuck. You have a rare opportunity, one that doesn’t come along very often at all.
You are free. You may not be able to move or fight, but the threat that once consumed your thoughts is nothing. They cannot touch you now. But you can learn: watch your foe, examine his every flaw, learn his strengths, and ready your mind because when you come back, you’re not going to let the kitten do it again. You’re coming back, an Avenging Angel, ripped from his darkest fears. And you will destroy him with the knowledge you have gleaned while “Dead”.TL:DR
Rule #1: Don’t be a dick
Rule #2: They are your team, treat them like it.
Rule #3: If you don’t know, ask. If you do know, ask.
Rule #4: You will go down, and it will be frustrating.
Rule #5: Death blows: Learn from it.
I like the Rules!
+1
If you press V while alive, it makes it easier to resurrect yourself.
Since you don’t go down, hah…
… I beg to differ. In a 1v_, there always stands a chance of your player going down. In these frequent situations, dodge might not help. Therefore it would be beneficial to have a build that could get up fast when killed.
On the main note:
I believe by increasing your Healing stat , it should also increase the speed of how fast you may revive yourself if you are downed.
HOWEVER:
I do NOT recommend using Traits to increase that specific “Stat-Bonus”
You are better off using Traits for what they do, and later on getting Armor/Upgrades to make up for the missing “Stats” so you can balance your playstyle and make it work.
Not to say, some classes do have Traits that support you on downstate, (Depends) so you might wana go check it out and see if there are any traits for your liking in that department.
Hope that helps.
Please check out my Guide “GW2 Combat system 101”.
If you press V while alive, it makes it easier to resurrect yourself.
Since you don’t go down, hah…
May I also add:
Skill6 is also another way too! Fastest way to keep yourself alive if you are about to get downed.
And let’s not forget about all the Support & Control Skills as well. =)
@ Truefaith
Very nice information regarding Combo Fields and Finishers!
^-^ Thanks so much for adding it in. You really filled in that gab perfectly well.
I have recently helped Xour out.
He should be doing much better now! =D
It’s all the matter of training at this point.
Bumped Thread
Please Check out a new Thread I have Posted with better details the 3 combat mechanic and new info on Traits/Armor/Weapons.

((HOW-TO-BUILD-YOUR-CLASS))
Learn how to Specialize your Playstyle by making builds you want to play!
You can build your class to play anyway you want!
Think of Builds like as if you’re building a deck of cards in Magic The Gathering.
Building your class requires you to choose Skills, Traits, and Stats.
These 3 elements together creates a build which you play.
Note: You can only choose Traits after selecting what you want to specialize in. More on that later…
To unlock Skills & Traits you must spend [Hero Points].
Please go to:
[Hero Menu] —> [Training] --> [Skills] or [Specialization]
((Choosing Your Skills))
The 1st step you take when you start making your build is choosing your Core skills.
All Weapons & Utility Skills are 100% Useful. It’s how you use them that truly determines their usefulness. When choosing your Weapons & Utility skills, Ask yourself:
“Is this how I want to play? Do I have enough ways of dealing Damage/Control/Support? Do I enjoy using a Great-sword or Hammer? Can I use them both?”
Never look for Weapons based on “Damage” alone.
Always look for Weapons based on what Skill-sets it comes with.
Utility Skills are your slot skills from 6,7,8,9, and 0.
- You can choose any combination of skills you like.
It’s vital to choose the skills that synergizes well for how you want to play your class. There are no best weapon and utility choices, only favorite playstyle choices!
_______________________________________________________
((Choosing Your Specialization))
The 2nd step is to choose what to Specialize in.
By choosing what to specialize in, you can select Traits that will Enhance and Modify the way you play.
To access your Traits, go to: [Hero Menu] —> [Build] tab —> [Specialization]
Under [Specialization]:
- There are 5 Specialization Rows to choose from.
- You can only have 3 Rows active.
Choose the Specialization Rows that have the best Trait combinations available based on how you play with your Core Skills.
__________________________________________________
((Choosing your Stats))
Once you choose your Skills, and Traits that Specializes your playstyle , the next step is to choose the stats that best supplements your playstyle.
Depending on how you are playing with your Skills & Traits, choosing the right stats will be different for everyone.
Example:
Let’s say your playstyle as a Warrior involves you using a (Control) skill called “Fear me”.
This skill takes (Control) away from enemies around you by forcing them to flee.
Then you select a Specialization and choose a Trait that would Enhance your playstyle by (Supporting) you with a Heal, whenever you use the “Fear me” skill. In that case, the Stats that will suppliment your playstyle could be ((Healing Power Stat)) to increase the amount of healing you do and ((Condition Duration Stat)) to increase the “Flee” duration on your enemies whenever you use the “Fear Me” skill!
To choose stats that best supplements your playstyle, you need to first think about how you are playing.
((How Stats work:))
Power = Increase Direct DPS
Condition Damage = Increase damage per Condition
Condition Duration = Increase duration of Conditions
Vitality = Increase Health
Toughness = Reduces damage taken
Healing Power = Increased the amount you heal for.
Boon Duration = Increase the duration of Support/Buff skills.
Ferocity = Increases Critical Damage
Precision = Increase Critical hit chance
((Must Watch!!!)) [[For Visual Learners]]
This Video will give you an idea of how all 9 Professions play in Combat!
In Conclusion
GW2’s combat system is a fast paced, and action oriented game which allows you to customize your character’s playstyle in many different ways using Skill, Traits and Stat choices.
Step#1 – Choose Skills that Fits YOUR Playstyle
Step#2 – Choose Traits to Enhance YOUR Playstyle
Step#3 – Choose Stats that Supplements YOUR Playstyle
Damage/Control/Support
Congratulations!
Now all you have to do is apply what you learned and see what kind of builds and playstyles you can make!
There are no best builds!
For every great build out there, there’s always going to be a great Counter Build just for it! So be prepared and be creative and most importantly, have fun !
NOTE: Combo Fields & Combo Finishers are NOT Included in this Guide!
(edited by DreamyAbaddon.3265)
GW2’s Combat System is based on:
Damage/Control/Support
Every class must learn how to deal Damage while staying in Control and being able to Support themselves to stay self-efficient.
“Damage” is important for every class to help contribute in. It’s the very thing that helps you kill the enemy.
“Control” has many Factors. Every class has their own ways of staying in “Control” while in combat. There are 2 Basic primary ways of staying in “Control”:
[Movement] and [Dodge]
[Movement] alone can evade tons of attks, while [Dodge] can help you evade bigger attks, or even help you adjust your positioning while in combat.
Positioning is Key.
“What is Control?”
Control is when you take control of the Enemy.
Control is when you make it difficult for the enemy to attack you.
Control = Movement, Dodge, Stun, Daze, Chill, Cripple, Immobilize, Blind, Push, Pull, Knockdown, Knockback, BlowOut, Freeze, Weaken, Vulnerability, Evade, Break Stun, Teleport, Shrink, Stealth, Fear, Illusions, etc.
“What is Support?”
Support is when you support yourself by enhancing your combat abilities.
Support is when you use Heals, Boons, Blocks, or Condition Removals.
Support = Healing, Swiftness, Regen, Protect, Fury, Might, Vigor, Stability, Retaliation, Haste, Aegis, Revive, Condition Removals, Condition Conversions, Invulnrabality, Blocks, Endurance Refill, etc.
“What is Damage?”
There are 2 types of Damage.
Direct Damage & Condition Damage.
Direct Damage = Burst Damage
Condition Damage = Poison, Bleeding, Burns, Torment, Confusion etc.
That being said, this game is based on a Dynamic Combat System were skill rotations render useless. Every second the combat situation changes and you need to learn how to adapt to these changes by using skills you need, otherwise, you’ll just end up dead.
((MUST WATCH)) – [FOR VISUAL LEARNERS]
This Video Shows you how to apply Damage/Control/Support
during actual Combat! A nice breakdown on how each skills function
Team Play (Party Play)
Because all Classes are efficient and have their own ways of staying effective in Damage/Control/Support . You wont be looking for a specific Class you need to party with. Instead, you’ll be looking for good players who you can coordinate with as a Team.
In a 5 man Dungeon Party , you want to work as a team by
coordinating “Control” while “Supporting” each other and contributing in dealing “Damage”.
Keep this in mind:
Damage/Control/Support are NOT ROLES.
These are the 3 Basic Combat Mechanics based on GW2’s Combat System. The Combat system relies on these 3 mechanics for all classes.
This is to ensure every player who decides to play what ever class they enjoy, to be able to play effeciantly and effectivly in a 5 man Dungoen Party or Solo.
Because there are NO :
Tank Roles
Healer Roles
DPS Roles
The combat system drives for serious team play for these types of group Content.
In fact, it’s more challenging Now because of this, since you don’t have anyone to babysit you anymore.
There are NO BABYSITTERS!!!
You dont have a Babysitter to Heal you so you can Feel Safe spamming DPS skills.
You dont have a Babysitter to Tank for you so you can Feel Safe spamming DPS skills.
You are now responsible for yourself and for contributing in your team by
Coordinate “Control” while “Supporting” each other & contributing in dealing “Damage”.
(edited by DreamyAbaddon.3265)
If you want, I could show you those 2 classes, or all classes and how they work.
All you have to do is visit my Server as a guest.
My server is “Borlis Pass” and im playing right now. lol
Welcome to the Game GoneGuru!! =)
I play in Borlis Pass Server. Come right ahead and Join me for some gaming!
My Norn Ranger is REALLY FAT.
He looks like the character in the .hack//rootz Anime named “Tawalaya”.
Guess what I named him? “Tawalaya Miyake”. THe Last name I got from the japanese voice actor who played Tawalaya from .hack//rootz.
But yeah, My Norn is really Fat and that’s why I made him that way! =)
Anyone else losing track of their cursor in large scale combat scenarios? I read on some other forums other folks having this same issue in large zergs of spells.
Also tab targeting for me fails constantly. It never correctly cycles outwards, always line of sight or whatever might be hitting me at the moment in the distance; even thought what I want to kill is closest. Someone suggested using the UI enhancement Combat Mode, but I don’t think I should have to use some enhancement like this just to play the game properly.
Another issue I have is the loot particle effects. I brought this up once before but I’m gonna post about it again just to get it out there. It’s hard to see what needs to be looted when it’s just small little gold pixie dust particles up against the shimmer of the sun off water, or whatever environment you are in. I don’t know, could these effect be bigger, different color perhaps?
I know exactly how you feel. xD
But I got used to it I guess… =/ would be nice if they fix it
Actually, They made the monsters a bit harder to kill but NOT by that much.
If anything, the fights just seem to last longer in my opinion. (Which I like)
If you are dying too fast and your lvl80 in a down scale zone, then there is something wrong with you. You need to learn to MOVE and DODGE.
I see to many people standing still and spamming their Skills without moving.
Yes you’ll die as a result.
If you guys check out my Thread regarding “GW2’s Combat system 101”
You wouldn’t be having this issue. That’s why I wrote the guide in the 1st place, to help people improve to not have these troubles all the time.
Anyways, I like this new build much better. Hopefully it teaches people to learn Not to rely on Armor and be more skill dependent and move more offten to avoid death.
Take care.
You are missing the point.
This game isnt designed for the Holy Trinity: Tank/healer/Dps roles.ArenaNet literarly made it clear about that.
You can costumize ur character how you want to play. However, The moment people start looking for Healers, is the moment you start excluding certain classes, bringing back the Holy Trinity is not the asnwer.
Are you even reading what you are typing? I’m asking this as a genuine question.
The holy trinity is still there, however not in a classic sense (classic meaning it is essential). ANet made it clear that you can play however you want and still be helpful to your team. We have dps builds, we have bunker builds, so why is it a crime to want to play as a healer? It is impossible to just stand there and heal (which I don’t think you quite grasp). The whole idea behind cleric gear is to maximize the healing you give yourself and allies. Its more of a survivability build than anything else, and one that takes finesse to pull off effectively too.
What you and most people still dont understand is, Tank Build doesnt make you play a Tank Role. Support Build doesnt make you play a Healer role. You dont benefit the party as effeciantly playing it that way because that’s forcing the Holy trinity into a game not designed for the Holy Trinity.
Yes, Play it how you want but that doesnt mean force other mmorpg holy trinity methods into a game that isnt designed for it. Then suddenly complain about it.
I’ve played with tons of players who think this way and dungoens usually turn out sloppy. But I played with players who knew what they where doing and usually things where running way smoother without Tank/support players who claim the holy tinity is there…
The Holy Trinity is gone. I assure you.
If you have a support build, then that’s fine, but note that you’ll be gimping yourself in other areas.
You’ll be more benifit to the team by working with Damage/Control/Support mechanics and creating your own Personal Build that works for you. Not some Online guide of what builds work for others.
There are people who claim Engineer is weak or broken, Yet, My Engineer is one of the greatest class that does excellent in combat. The problem isn’t the Combat mechanics or Armor/gear. It’s the player’s lacking the knowledge in not understanding them.
Here is a quote:
“It’s underpowered and broken if you dont understand it”
“Anything is Overpowered if you keep losing to it”
You dont have to destory your Support Build, but adding different stats to help for parts you lack will deffinantly make u a better and more useful player. That’s for sure.
(edited by DreamyAbaddon.3265)
So Nobody is interested in this suggestion or idea?
Nobody other than myself and my friends actually enjoy 1v1 PvPing?
-_- If anyone is interested at least to the slightest bit, it be helpful if you posted something or else I doubt any changes like this would ever be made.
Why are you complaining? Once you hit lvl80 each time you level you get skill points which you need for various Mystic Forge uses. Also lv80 is where most of the good looking armors are found…
For some people it’s not about the destination. It’s about the journey.
The Journey continues after the destination. So why complain about the journey?
The exp is fine. This game isnt about prepairing to have fun. You’ll suppose to have fun and get tons of rewards out of them for doing what you like. I personally feel they could add more exp quality for jumping puzzles completion. That would encourage jummpers like me to level that way if we so choose =)
Here’s a fun idea: Play without your UI.
:D
We’ll call it… “GW2 – Expert mode”
I’m surprized you didnt know there is an “Expert Mode”.
You can Hide all the UI ingame…
Problem is, it hides EVERYTHING.
Press F11 → and it should be somewhere under “Controls”.
=) There is your expert mode. That should get rid of your UI and all the junk on the Right! hehe
I’m not sure if the devs or other players will even notice my post here.
This is kinda a topic that’s about sPVP. Why couldn’t it be there?
Anyways I do hope devs and others will Notice this post =/
Hello ArenaNet!
& The Guild Wars2 Community!
Recently, I have been going into “Hearts of the Mists” to get into PvP Browser to pick an Empty Server that nobody is playing on so I could PvP with one of my friends doing 1vs1
My friends and I found this to be extremely fun!!!
However, there are Pros and Cons, But I also have some Suggestions that can help make this work!
The Pros:
What I enjoy about sPVP is when Im going 1vs1 with my friends, we get boosted to lvl80, Access to ALL Traits, Maxed Armor stats, ALL SKILLS Available and Unlocked! The only thing left is who is better? That’s where your PvP is Skill based and that’s what I Truly LOVE about it! It brings in the competitive mode in me and my friends!
The Cons:
The downside is, random players would join our Server when we are dualing 1v1 which can inturrupt our fun. This isn’t their fualt of course, since sPVP was designed for capturing points in a team based playstyle. But my friends and I enjoy the 1v1 style in the sPVP maps and competitive plays.
The Suggestion:
Instead of making a dual system from scratch to balance out Classes in PvE world,
I would suggestion you guys to add a (Private Server) feature, in sPVP Mode which would allow us to create our OWN Passwords so ONLY our friends can Join the match
The Benifits:
(A) This allows a Team of players to Train against another team of their choice
(B) This allows players like me, to invite friends for 1v1 PvP without random players interrruption.
What does the community think about that?
Do you think it’s difficult for ArenaNet to add a feature that allows us to create our own (Private Servers)?
Will ArenaNet consider this suggestion?
Discuss! =)
You dont have to trash your entire build.
Traits can be mixed and matched to suit your own playstyle, the way you like it.
The way ANet likes it FIXED
So its perfectly fine for them to buff damage outputs via power and crit damage but when we want to increase our ability to negate this effect its seen as unbalanced? If I recall, healing power still scales pretty terribly compared to all other stats.
Play the game for the way it’s ment to be played.
DO you have a Healer/support class in Call of Duty?
What if I want a gun that heals people? SO when someone gets shot, I can heal my team with my gun?
No… You. You are Not a healer in GW2 because that role doesnt transulate in GW2’s combat system.
Other games like WoW use the Tank/Healer/DPS roles which makes it 100% fine since that’s the core design of the game’s mechanics is to work with those 3 roles, But GW2 is designed with Damage/Control/Support in mind where all classes must use to Solo effectivly and coordinate with team effeciantly. It’s a new kind of combat system.
By adding a healer type class or stats that makes certain class valid for Healers, will destory the game design and that’s when people start asking for Healers Elementalist or Guardian healers/tanks…. No thanks -_-
I would say because people like Costumizing their characters and making their own balance and traits. You can’t have an RPG game without having something to costumize skills and such.
That’s right. And we want our Healing Power gear so that we can customize and balance our own characters the way we want to.
You are missing the point.
This game isnt designed for the Holy Trinity: Tank/healer/Dps roles.
ArenaNet literarly made it clear about that.
You can costumize ur character how you want to play.
However, The moment people start looking for Healers, is the moment you start excluding certain classes, bringing back the Holy Trinity is not the asnwer.
I’m not interested in playing a generic vitality and toughness stacking build. I have always and would rather continue to play my Healway build. I’d also rather not be forced to trash an entire build just because they’re releasing more and more “superior” gear that does not have anything resembling Cleric’s in its selections.
You dont have to trash your entire build.
It’s not all about Tank Build or DPS Build or Healer Build.
Traits can be mixed and matched to suit your own playstyle, the way you like it.
There are really no specifics to it. Armor/stats help you in department u lack since Traits give u some bonuses.
What ever build works for you, I recommend u stick with.
It’s not generic. But I believe there is a good reason for healing stats Not going any higher than what it is.
If they do, they have a lot of re-balancing to do as far as the damage and defense the enemies we fight do. As well as other classes to follow up with it.
They can Add it but hopefully not by much.
I feel like people who want to have healing gear are being shoehorned away from being able to play how we want to play because its easier to not include healing gear than it is to fix its viability.
Whats the point in me even doing my dailies if there is no way for me to progress? It seriously makes no sense when it could probably be created and added to the vendor in less than a-few hours. Same goes for the ascended rings. There are plenty of side grades for everyone but healing.
I’m just going to assume ArenaNet’s intention:
(This is my Guess and opinion)It’s probably because they don’t want there to be a (Healer Role) and by adding more and powerful healing stats, it can create a start of the Holy Trinity that ArenaNet worked hard to break. That could cause a lot of problems as well since certain classes have other healing skills than others and it could exclude specific classes for another, thus, bringing back the old school (Need a healer) shouts.
Again, That’s my opinion and guess.
If it was Arenanet’s intention to not have a healing role at all, then they wouldn’t have introduced healing gear in the first place, nor would they have included entire trait lines dedicated to healing and utilities/elites to healing others. I know it’s an opinion and a guess, I’m just stating that it’s more an issue of them missing/being lazy to include it rather than a sway of intentions.
I would say because people like Costumizing their characters and making their own balance and traits. You can’t have an RPG game without having something to costumize skills and such.
And you dont need a healer and a tank for the game to be an RPG either. Look at Fallout3 as an example.
Btw, is “Guesting” available from this Update? If so, I’ll love to show you some stuff in combat if possible.
Really hurting in the Guardian department here as well. My go-to build for WvW is being killed on piece of Ascended gear at a time currently. It’s a little depressing really. Been posting about this since rings were introduced as well.
Guardians are just fine!
Just as long as they dont try to “Tank/support”.
I seen many guardians die because they play it like a Tank Class from WoW.
But I play Guardian and I can say that It’s really a powerful class and doesn’t need that extra healing stat to be any better. I actually think Guardians are Over Powered in a lot of departments but that’s my opinion and experience since I play the class.
Love it though, won’t lie.

Because this game isn’t about Tank/Healer/DPS roles.
This game’s combat system is based on Damage/Control/Support.Being a Support character isn’t encouraged exactly.
You’d only be gimping yourself if you only focus on 1 /3.In GW2, You need to know how play with your team properly by dealing “Damage” while coordinating “Control” and Supporting each other in the party.
I play all 8 classes and I can tell you that you want to fully focus on knowing how to take advantage of your class and it’s capabilities for combat to be as useful as possible in your team.
An Elementalist who focuses on Water Attunment for support isnt useful compaired to an Elementalist who helps the team by coordinating “Control” and “Support” while contributing “Damage”.
Your playstyle is based on Weapons + Utility Choices with costumizable traits/stats but the combat system is still Damage/Control/Support.
(Those are Not roles but Mechanics)Are you serious? Of course I focus on control, support, and damage. I don’t just stand in water attunement, I know exactly how to play my class. I chose to emphasize support by picking up Cleric’s Gear (mind you which exists and gives you Healing Power/Toughness/Power) but that doesn’t mean I just stand in water attunement. I switch to fire to blast fire fields for aoe might and do area damage, air for area swiftness/blind/control, and earth to immobolize and finish my combo fields. Player skill isn’t the problem here…it’s the fact that gear nomenclature that was previously added to exotics has suddenly gone missing.
Holy cow! Relax dude.
I’m Not accusing you for that. I was only stating an example with an Elementalist.
I seen a lot of bad players, specially elementalist who stick with 1 attunment and do 1 thing, that always end up dying because of lack of Support or Control.I only posted that as a reply to inform, because I don’t want people to get the wrong idea.
You can setup ur character’s stats/traits anyway you want. I just dont want people to be mis-informed and think that Healer/support roles apply in GW2.
But I do Agree with you that it’s important to have different stats available for the costumization part. But I don’t think it’s something you should be angry about since having stats on different areas is important to help you do better in Damage/Control/Support.
I apologize. I kind of vented off you…sorry. Bad day mixed with this…I know, I edited my former post above to give off a somewhat more neutral/calmer side of me. :p I’m sorry.
No Worries. =) Hopefully ur entire day turns out good.
I’m sure it’ll work out.
