1. Yes you can… Gems are only used for cosmetic purposes of convenient items. It’s not a pay-to-win game. Also you can convert gold into Gems that you earn ingame.

2. Why would you want to level up to 80 fast? There should be No reason. The only reason you level up in PvE is because you want to unlock other zones to explore to experience contents you enjoy as well as experiencing your personal story if you are into it.

3. Wait 1 week unfortunately.

4. The Real fun begins at lvl1 and beyond. But if you are speaking about dungoens in general, that starts at lvl30 beyond.

This game has a lot to offer so take your time and enjoy each content you come across. The entire game is endgame. There are no raid-like endgames in GW2 that you may think otherwise from games like WoW.

Good luck

See, That’s the problem… If you read the written guide you would know the answer regarding that!

I DONT recommend copy & paste someone elses build online since it’s really bad anyways. To many people judge a profession based on online builds and that’s an issue when it comes to learning your profession and playing the way you want. Since really, you are only playing the way other players want instead which is wrong.

Follow these Steps:
1. First, choose weapons that works for your playstyle on the profession you like.

2. Next, Choose Traits to build your characters playstyle. Do NOT choose Traits for stat-bonuses…

3. Choose Armor/upgrades for Stats you need to balance out your playstyle so you can do well in both damage/survivability.

4. Test run it at (Heart of the Mists) and kill Svanir to see if that’s what you want. If so, you can work on getting that build and style of playing by lvling up during PvE, if not, keep experimenting to see what you like since (Heart of the Mists) is Free.

Watch my 2nd Video on “Combat Demos”. That’s “Svanir” I’m fighting located in
(Heart of the Mists). You can test out your builds on him and see how effective they are and how well you can fight. It helps to know what your style is during the test runs.

I Highly recommend you Quit GW2 before you realize the game wasn’t built for your kind.

Honestly, if you do NOT enjoy GW2 now, you won’t enjoy it at lvl80.
The point of leveling is to unlock new areas to explore for the contents you enjoy.

Either play the game and have fun or quit. But do NOT Grind your way up.

Grinding is NOT playing
Grinding is Rushing

Play the game if you are having fun…. seriously… That’s what games are for! -_-

This game’s combat system doesn’t have Tanks/Support/Healers/DPS/Tanks roles of any kind. By choosing a role, you are gimping yourself and your potentials of combat.

I highly recommend you both to check out this Video to learn how the Combat System and mechanics function within GW2:

Next, I recomend you to watch this Video to get an idea of how each Profession plays in Combat. You may also use this as a (Guide) to choosing which Combat styles you might be into trying out when selecting a Profession to meet your needs:

Also when you are done watching those videos above, I recommend you to read this Written (Guide) below to get a better details on how Combat works as well as choosing Armor/Traits/Weapons:

I would’ve just looked up a character guide but i know how to create my own personalized traits according to what i enjoy in my character. Thanks for the Help

Wow, thanks everyone! I have been reading the stickies and looking through all of your materials. I really haven’t been this excited to play a game since WoW, so I want to take advantage of everything it has to offer.

Don’t be too excited! lol
Playing this game like WoW might ruin it for you.

You got a lot to digest and get used to for PvE and PvP.
My advice is to Not play this game like an MMO but as a single player RPG in an MMO environment where u can play with ur friends and guilds.

Think of it like skyrim in a way. =)

Im confused towards the End Game of GW2?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

The purpose to play the game is because it’s fun…

[…]

However, if you are one of those who just grind stuff, this game has nothing to offer to keep you interested because it’s NOT that kind of game.

I agree with the having fun part (game is fun, just play, to have fun). About the grinding, there is plenty of it:

- Grind for coins
- Grind materials
- Grind badges (for armor, accessories, etc.) of all types [dungeons, over and over]
- Grind laurels (for armor, accessories, etc.) [dailies, etc.]
- Grind events, over and over (for karma, loot, etc)

If you are into grinding, this game is just for you as well. It has a bit of everything, for everyone.

When I say “There are no grinding” I mean every content you do for fun, rewards you for it.

What you listed above are just reward types you get from contents you play. And you can play any contents you like and still be rewarded.

(Example:)

You are NOT grinding when you are just exploring and gathering materials when you see them. It’s part of exploring and it helps you be able to craft or sell stuff during the journey. (Part of the game)

You are NOT grinding when you are doing different dungeons with your friends that you enjoy. This will also give you rewards.

You are NOT grinding if you get to choose your dailies because they are
(Content you like to play for the day) which you can change up and get rewarded for them.

You are NOT grinding if you are exploring the Open World PvE and enjoying events as they happen with friends or even solo. You get rewarded for it just by participating and having fun during the journey. Exploring different places while events change it up is what makes events fun in my opinion.

Of course there is MORE… etc

But my point is, you DONT have to grind.
Grinding isn’t playing…
Grinding is Rushing…

Just play the game and enjoy the contents you love and you will get rewarded for it!

This guy is probably the best tutor I have ever had. Just four hours ago I was an awful Necro who kited everything and had no idea how to use certain abilities, now I am a decent thief who actually knows how to use her abilities in a fight.

You REALLY need to balance damage, control and support out. If you don’t balance those things out you are doing everyone and yourself a disservice. Its like an elementalist never switching out of the water element and calling themselves a “support”. When in fact you’re not supporting anyone by doing that, you’re leaving others to burn. By mastering balancing damage, control, and support everyone in a team brings everything to the table. There does not need to be a trinity in a group when you have the potential within all of you to embody every aspect of that trinity. By mastering these you also help yourself in solo play. I mean think about it, when have you ever seen people who focus directly on one aspect of the trinity succeed in solo play?

The key to this game is balancing damage, control, and support. All professions are designed to do them all. Great guide, and amazing teacher. +1

I’m really glad this guide is helping you improve in a lot of areas in Combat.
=) Keep up the good work, You’ll keep getting better overtime just by practicing.

How to see other players' stats?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

The Main Reason I believe you CANNOT check other people’s stats is because you really don’t need to…

(For Example)

Player (A) and Player (B) are both playing Warrior Classes, However, they both have different playstyles. This means they will both be looking for different (Traits), which as a result, they will both have different NEEDS when looking for Armor/Stats.

If Player (A) has Traits that give him tons of Power+Condition dmg, then why does he need more Armor/stats for what he already doesn’t lack?

Maybe Player (A) lacks Vitality and Toughness since he didnt choose (Traits) that give him those stat-bonuses. Which in that case, Player (A) who is playing warrior is most likely going after those stats for his armor.

Meanwhile.
Player (B) Lacks Power+Condition dmg, But has traits that covers him for Vitaility & Toughness. This means Player (B) will be more interested going after Power+Condition dmg Armor/stats to help him during combat.

So in theory:
Player (A) or Player (B) checking each other’s stats WONT help them in any way or form since both players have different NEEDS based on the traits and playstyle they have.

=) You can check out my (Guide) for more details on Combat/Armor/Traits/Weapons if you like Here:

How does aggro work?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

To be honest, We dont quite know 100% about how Agro works so just consider it a “Random factor”.

I dont know if you havn’t noticed but: There are No Tanks in this game.
So most likely Shared aggro. You want to coordinate "Control’ and “Support” with your team while contributing “Damage”. All professions are self-effeciant and do well in combat.

SO I wouldnt worry much about it. ArenaNet is tinkering with agro a lot so no one knows 100% how or where it goes. Again, consider it as “Random Shared Agro” as a factor for now and you’ll be fine.

DreamyAbaddon.3265

Thanks for the video links, they were interesting. Yep thats my problem, i consider myself to be more than capable on my thief, but finding a group is much harder than it seems for other classes. sighs

The reason why is because many players still play GW2 with the same mindset of WoW or games with the Tank/Healer/DPS roles in mind which is a problem in GW2 since those roles dont exist.

Also, I wouldn’t do PUG dungoens with people who claim to be Support or DPS roles since they are purposly handicapping themselves in other aspects of fights. I do however, highly recommend you party up with friends from guild you are good at playing with and learn how to coordinate with good friends in any team given situation, but avoid PUGs if you can. Problem with playing with Random players is the fact that you’ll be dealing with majority and majority still dont know how to play this game or take advantage of this game’s combat.

It’s one thing to know the dungoens well, but it’s Another thing to actually know how the combat works and becoming an asset to a team.

For my runs, I generally avoid playing with Guardians, Warriors, and sometimes Elementalist due to the fact that players tend to go back to old school mindset and make themselves handicapped in party play.

If you found my 2 videos helpful, why dont you check out my Written (Guide) which explains it in better details? A friend of mine also posted Combo Fields and finishers u might be interested to look into:

DreamyAbaddon.3265

That’s the problem, ALL professions are 100% useful and valuable.
The issue isn’t that some professions are better than others for group or solo plays, the issue is there are too many bad players, and ignorant players who think that this game still follows the old formula of other mmorpgs combat system with Roles such as “Tanks/Healers/DPS”.

This video will give you an idea of how each professions play and their values in combat:

Another Video I highly recommend you check out that will show you exactly how the combat system works in such a way where playing all professions are useful.

I hope these videos will help you understand the basic core mechanics of the combat system and realize that it’s Not the professions but the player playing them.

You also should Note: Even if you are a great player, you’ll be teaming up with people who are really poor at playing and might blame you for their stupid mistakes that gets them killed in the first place… Just avoid those types of players if you can and play with friends.

I play all 8 professions. =)

First of all, NOBODY should tell you HOW to play your profession.

Except your party.
Being flexible, knowing which traits and utilities you can swap to cover different roles is KEY to group play, and you’re a selfish being if you refuse to comply because you don’t want to.
Now there is a limit to that of course, no one should ask you to go buy specific gear (unless you’re doing speedruns) to be effective, and probably the line should be drawn of asking for a trait respec (meaning it’s a heavy request, you might or might not comply).

Remember that your freedom of enjoyment ends where someone else’s start. Sure, you can sometime lie, or refuse to bring specific weapons/utilities and get away with it, but thats basically being a duche to your team.

Being nice, flexible, talkative and available to bring or discuss what your team needs is what a GOOD teammate does.

This is 100% incorrect.
You choose Traits/Weapons/Utilities based on what works for you as a player.
It’s NOT someone’s job to babysit you for your lack of skills.

Everyone is self-effeciant in combat and the way the combat works is -
You and your team should coordinate “Control” and “Support” each other while contributing “Damage”. aka Damage/Control/Support

There are No roles. These are basic combat Mechanics which all professions have and must use to stay self-effeciant. You are no good to the team if you end up dying.

I’ve done enough dungeons to know how players who try to focus on a role, end up making me and some of my friends doing all the work since they lack of “Control” or “Support” or “Damage” (depending on what “role” they claim they play)

I do not mislead a player thinking there is a specific way to play or a specific role to fill. If you end up dying, it’s your fault and not your teams. If the group ends up failing, it’s the entire teams fault and not just yours.

You become an asset to the team if you are the one not dying.
