Guild Wars 2 on Xbox One?

I personally think the real reason why Anet has said MANY times that GW2 will never come to consoles is because they want to maintain 100% control over the game.

If they release GW2 on the PS4 and Xbox One, they would first have to get Sony’s and Microsoft’s approval before they can do anything to the game. Which means if they want to release a bug fix patch or release a new LW episode they would have to first submit it to Sony and Microsoft and wait for them to approve it. This could mean console players could be 1, 2 or 3 LW episodes behind PC players.

I don’t think Microsoft would try to control it at all. They really only get power hungry with games they are developing/publishing. The only thing they would want probably would be a cut of the money coming in from the Xbox side of things. And Microsoft is a lot easier on the rules for updating now a days (At least I think). My friend had a little Indy game that Microsoft had nothing to do with, other than it being sold on the Xbox. It updated like every day for a week or two straight. So I’m pretty sure they are more laid back with things like that now. That being said, I don’t know how Sony is with stuff like that. Like I said, they seem a lot more strict now.

Thus if Anet has 100% control over GW2 they won’t have to give anyone a cut of the profit. Nor will they have to go through a middle man like Microsoft or Sony in order to do anything with their game.

I think it has nothing to do with which console has the least amount of restrictions or how much work it would take to port GW2 to consoles. It all comes down to having full ownership over the profit, full ownership over creative control and full control over the game where they can do what they like. Such as releasing a patch or new content when they want to and not having to wait for someone to approve it first.

I’m pretty sure they would always have full control of their game. Microsoft would never touch their profit, they would probably just want a little of the top from the initial sell of something on Xbox. If you are making $10 selling something. Then someone offers to sell it for you in a different town, they won’t change the product at all but they want $5 from the sell. You are getting $15 now and they are getting $5. Why wouldn’t you do it?

If you are selling something yourself for $10 and it’s working out really well and your making a good amount of income why would you risk investing a large amount of time and money to translate it over to something new (bringing GW2 to consoles), have someone else try to sell it, charging more for it and all you are doing is just hoping to remake the money spent in order to start making a profit again?

In the end, if someone can get onto Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network that means they have the internet and 99% chance also has a computer and/or laptop meaning if the really want to play GW2, they can just buy it for PC.

I agree with you 100%. Not only that but everyone already has a PC in one way or form for either school or work. GW2 works fine even without a graphics card. I can run it on my Tablet PC smoothly on low really well.

I soloed Personal Story, Season 2, Season 3, and HoT with all my classes and not once did I have any problems with the bosses and mobs. The first time was a kittenallenging trying to figure out the mechanics but that is the fun part.

If you’re struggling then you really need to learn 2 play cause the game is already easy as it is.

Here are my tips:
Use your Control/Support/Damage skills while moving and dodging from incoming attacks. Change your build based to approach different situations easier and have fun.
Remember practice makes you better in this game.

Dont forget to swap weapons in mid-combat!!! Very important!

My main reason for purchasing PoF immediately is so I can continue my character’s storyline and see what happens next in my story. I want to explore new maps, and kick the kitten out of Balthazar and beat another Elder Dragon and I’m hoping this expansion’s story will have a good ending with a satisfying conclusion before we start LS4 story.

Ok, I kinda get no trading…..even though mailing is riskier

I get no mount…….well tbh I dont necessarily care if they are here or not

But why no dueling? like there is no aspect unless if in a random made up situation this is bad. I have not gotten WoW to lvl 80 so there might be some random thing idk about

But the only thing I can see that might be annoying, is if ur defeating a pve boss and random dude ask for duel………but its no different from asking for party

If you want a fair, PvP Duel, go to Heart of the Mists where you and your opponent would have access to all the skills, traits and stats available and have fun.

I dont want people spamming me dual messages in PvE.
If we want PvP, we go to PvP areas, not play PvE content.

Guild Wars on Consoles??

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

DreamyAbaddon.3265

Not everyone owns a dedicated gaming device (A console) to play video games.
Most people have laptops and smartphones. People need their laptops for work, school, productivity, creativity and entertainment.

To put simple: It is more convenient to play games on a laptop and a smartphone since these are devices many people have and thus it makes said games more accessible.

For example:
If you want to play overwatch with a friend on a PS4, your friend has to also own a PS4. If your friend does not own a PS4, but owns an XboxOne or NintendoSwitch, then you wont be able to play the same game with your friend unless you or your friend buys the other console. Keep in mind, buying a gaming device like a console in addition to the game’s price cost money and not everyone can afford to pay the price of owning multiple dedicated gaming device to play said games with certain friends.

However, since we live in a digital era, where almost everyone owns a laptop these days, if you wish to play Overwatch with a friend, all you have to do is ask them to buy and download the game and play with you. Again most people have laptops for school and work. Most people have smart phones, so making games for PC and SmartPhones means you’ll have more people who can play your games since these are platforms people use to do other things. If someone is bored, they can download a game and just play it. No additional cost is necessary. A lot of modern games, like GW2 can play and perform well without a graphics card.

Also you can play PC games on your TV with a wireless controller. It would give the same console experience. GW2 doesn’t support controller but you can play on a controller like I do using xpadder. So making a console version doesn’t add anything to the game itself. We need more content not money and time spent on making a console version.

Thx for the input, i went over the tutorials and they were simple enough so i got the gist of it.
I guess i’ll have to try the classes out myself to see which one suits me better. At least i can rule out a few professions already like thief and ranger

Just another quick question before i go, i started a warrior when i first started but got turned off due to me reading you need to swap weapons mid-combat all the time. Can you swap weapons efficiently and smoothly or do you always need to open the inventory and select it making it feel incredilibly clunky?

Thanks alot

I forgot what the swap weapon key is by default but if you press F11 key to open the Option Menu, and go to Control Options, you can change the keybind for swap weapons at anytime. =)

If you’ve seen my first 5min video link, were I demonstrated all 9 classes fighting the bear, you should have noticed me swapping weapons in mid-combat all the time. Whenever I swap weapons my skills from 1-5 changes. You want to swap weapons in mid-combat all the time no matter what class you play so that you can have access to the next set of skills that are not on cool down.

The only class that does NOT swap weapons are: Elementalist and Engineer.

With Elementalist, instead of swapping weapons, you will be swapping attunments. There are 4 attunments you’d want to swap to in mid-combat depending on the skills you need at the given time. The skills for swapping attunments would be your F1, F2, F3, and F4 keys.

With Engineer, instead of swapping weapons, you will be using weapon-kits. These are your utility skills from Skills 6,7,8, and 9 which will give you additional skill-sets like attunments.

With Thief, You can swap weapons, however, you won’t need to swap in mid-combat because Theif does not have skill cool downs for their skill 2,3,4 and 5. Instead of cool downs, you consume skill points. Each skill consumes a certain amount and will regen during the fight (slowly) so be sure not to spam your skills. Gotta be more strategic while being mobile.

All other classes you want to swap your weapons in mid-combat so that you can actually use skills that are NOT on cool down and so that you can adapt to the situation better. Nothing is worst than having to wait on cool downs and being stuck in a situation where you need to use a skill that’s currently not available that could save your life.

Granted, core tyria content is super easy, but learning now would help prepare you for stuff like HoT maps and PoF maps which have harder enemies and PvP and Raids and even Fractles which tend to be were the real challenge is.

Anyways if you have more questions feel free to ask me in game or on here.

If you want to play GW2 on the TV… then simply connect your PC to your TV and play the game on your controller using xpadder… Seriously it’s that easy.

I game on my PC using a 4k 65inch TV with bluetooth XboxOne controller.
You wont be able to play GW2 on 4k though because the UI is tiny… but you can play it at 2k or 1080p resolution just fine! That’s what I do.

Seriously, if your reason is “I wanna play on TV with controller” then console is irrelevant. You can already do this on PC just fine and it runs better on PC anyways so it’s a waste of money, time, and resources. I would rather ArenaNet focus on giving us more amazing content.

Yes. They are easy.
I soloed Personal Story, Season 2, HoT, Season 3 and they are really fun!
It’s more fun solo because you get to enjoy the story at your own pace, while also figuring out the boss mechanics on your own (Super rewarding). If you play with someone in my opinion it ruins the fun of discovering the boss mechanics and map mechanics.

I would play it with you for fun but I wouldn’t tell you what to do because I wouldn’t want to ruin your fun. =) Add me in game if you like a hand.

It is soloable and easy trust me.

Regarding Builds:

There are 3 steps in how to make a proper viable build of your own:

Step #1 – Choose Skills that fits your playstyle.

Look at what kinds of Damage/Control/Support skills your class provides and pick the combinations that work best for how you want to play your class.

Step#2 – Choose Traits that Modifies your playstyle.

Once you have picked the skills you enjoy playing with, you can choose traits that will modify and enhance the way you’re playing.

Step#3 – Choose Stats that Optimizes your playstyle.

This is the FINAL STEP! Now that you know what skills and traits you are using, you will have a better idea what Stats are needed to optimize the way you are playing!

I made a video tutorial that explains and goes over the details and gives in depth examples if you’re interested. Here is the link:

Okay where to begin.
First you should be aware GW2 doesn’t have traditional class roles. So this means you shouldn’t try to play the game pretending it has one otherwise you’re missing the point.

GW2 has 3 combat mechanics: Damage/Control/Support.
Each class has it’s own ways of dealing Damage, while taking Control away from the enemy, and Supporting themselves. You should always move and dodge while fighting and never intentionally allow enemies to hit you or you will be taking damage.

You can make Tanky builds, but you’re NOT a tank.
You can make Supporty builds, but you’re NOT a healer.
You can make Damage oriented builds, but you’re NOT a damage dealer.

Usually if you’re good at moving and dodging and feel confident with your ability to support yourself and take control of battle while dishing Damage, then making a more Damage oriented build is a good idea However, if you are struggling in staying alive and are not that good at moving and dodging from attacks then it would be a better idea to make a more Tanky/support build until you get better. It’s up to how well you play and what your playstyle is, you can make a build however you want, but that doesn’t mean you can play the same way as a traditional MMO due to the lack of traditional roles. Keep in mind, if you die in this game, it’s because you did NOT use control skills and Support skills when you needed it and you did not move and dodge enough from incoming attacks. You will be responsible for your own death.

*When it comes to Soloing: *
You want to take Control of the enemies, while Supporting yourself when you need too, and dishing out as much as Damage possible while moving and dodging from incoming attacks.

*When you are playing with a group: *
You want to coordinate Control with your team, while Supporting each other and help contributing in dealing Damage to kill the enemy while moving and dodging from incoming attacks.

All the classes are Ice cream, and each class has it’s own flavor, it’s own ways of utilizing Damage/Control/Support skills. Some class will have more of of one mechanic than the other in the name of Balance.

Again you can build you class to play anyway you want.
Here is a video link that shows you one way of playing each class to help you get an idea what each class is capable of:

This is not the console game and hopefully will never be. That would be damaging.

It works fine in FF14 tbh. But then, that game was built from day 1 with controller support in mind, including the UI and all. Changing it retroactively would be a massive undertaking and feels like a colossal waste of time considering how tiny the target audience probably is.

I agree. I rather they focus on more content…

Sure, the point is, 3rd party stuff needs always to be looked over by Anet, if players don’t find with them ways with that they can gain maybe somehow advantages over other players which just play with mouse/keyboard..

Thats why I think an official own selfmade controler support is neccessary, because only this way is Anet able to ensure, that everyone will use the exact same support, which allows also only the same functions, so that everyone can be truly equal to ensure, that everythign happens in a fair manner, so that nobody can eventualy get somehow advantages over others, which ANet would have to investigate first, if some kind of 3rd party controler support vialted against certain game rules/ code of conduct ect. pp.

Thats my reason why I think anet is long overdue with it to provide an own self made controler support.
However, my hopes for this to become a real thign, are very long ..
As logn anet has no intentions at all to port the game also onto consoles, I guess we will never see any official controler support by Anet, when its most likely just easier/ and more cost efficient just to ensure through investigations ect. that nobody absuses these 3rd party programs, than to work on an own official controler support and port the game over to consoles as well, even if this woudl mean for anet also as well additional new sources of incomign money, if they would spread the playerbase out onto the consoles as well, so that sales doesn’t come then only from PC sales anymore of the game, but also from consoles and their Online plattforms (PSn/XboxLive) through DLCs as replacement for the gemstore.

Maybe we will see this as a feature for the 3rd expansion in x years. when Naet is eventually doign again a Feature Expansion and not like PoF a Content Expansion, who knows ^^

Keep in mind PC gaming has never been about playing on equal playing field. Not everyone owns the same hardware, so not everyone will get the same performance, this includes control inputs. For example: A Mouse & Keyboard is superior for First person shooters, and playing with a controller leaves you a huge disadvantage in competitive game mode, while using a keyboard and mouse for fighting games or a platformer would leave you a huge disadvantage over someone who uses a controller. Either way people play on hardware and control input they prefer as long as they are not in any way cheating during online play. Cheating would be trying to make a bot play for you or pressing one key that does multiple actions. Luckily on a controller, you’d be pressing 2 buttons to perform one action with the amount of skills available so using 3rd party software to play GW2 on a controller won’t be cheating in this case.

Either way if they do add Controller support, I hope you can DISABLE it on the Options Menu. I dont like built in controller support in MMOs because of it’s limitations.
TERA’s controller support for example sucks and I always try to turn it off while playing using xpadder but the game is stubborn and forces me to unbind their default settings for each new character I made. If this is what will happen then No thanks lol

Its about time, that Anet starts to implement finalyl some kind of selfmade official controler support into the game…

players shouldnt be required in a game like this to be dependent on 3rd party programms from outside of the game just to be able to play the game also with controlers like the XBox or PS4 controler… or any kind of 3rd party producer controler that doesn’t come from consoles…

A game like this should provide own official controler support. Period
Shouldnt be too hard for ANet to make an own support for controlers as part of the ingame options menu to let the players decide over it, if they weant to play the game with mouse and keyboard, or if they want to shift over by one mouse click to Controler Gameplay instead, without that I have to start outside of the game for that some kinmd of 3rd party program or anything else for that, just to be able to play with a contrler the game and be able to configurate my setting for it, which buttons should be for which function of the game controls, just like we can change this also for the keyboard already from begin on…

Lets all hope, that Anet will announce somewhen in the futre after the release of Path of Fire, that they will release the game also as console ports onto X1/ PS4, then this problem has finally an end, and we can play the game then also finalyl on our nice and big TV screens with controlers, instead of in front of our PCs with mouse/keyboard n much smaler screens…

That would be so great for GW2, if they could make this somewhen finally happen in the future.
I’d be immediately one of the people, who’d completely switch over to play the game on console on my big TV with controler then.

The only issue that anet would have to work on ist, that players would need to have a way to connect from console also onto the acccounts from the PC version to continue their accounts…
If by playing on console it would end up in beign forced to make completely new fresh accounts – so no crossplay feature – then would make the whole work and effort for this make no sense and would be just a waste of time/money…

So if Anet ever intends to spread the game over to consoles to increase the community this way, then they have to do it right with crossplay between all platforms in mind, so that players aren’t forced to start fresh with a new account just to be able to play the game on consoles on TV.
We would have to be able just to login on our existing accounts that have been created on the Pc version on consoles, just like we would login in the game for the PC version…
So when I start the game on console and login , that I can just use the same account data to login, which I’d use for login into the game on my PC.

Thats the only issue that needs to be solved to make it possible to play the game also on consoles and when Anet won#t have for this issue a solution, then they should just stay on PC only directly and make no efforts on porting the game to consoles…

Because who really wants to switch over to console and TV, if you are then forced to make a completely new account, instead of being able to continue with your already existign account??
It wouldnt be worth for me to lose thousands of hours that ive invested already in my current account, just to be able to play the game later on console, if it would end up like this… then I rather keep on playing on PC, if the price for playing on consoles would be in the end losing your PC’s game progress therefore, due to eventually having no crossplay function between all platforms.

If they do add controller support, I hope they let us disable it in favor of letting us use 3rd party support like Xpadder… I would HATE having the ingame controller support interfer with how my controller layout works since I’ve been playing with this layout since the beta of the original GW2… I need my xpadder! I hate controller support ingame usually because of how limited it is. Would ruin my gaming experience if you cant turn off controller support in the menu.

I agree with the OP… Please let us shut off glider or remap the key to deploy glider. This is really annoying. Give us the option plz

[SPOILERS] Season 2 is still better

I actually agree with you on this OP.
My favorite is Season 2 because I love how coherent it was and immersive it was because it had a clear focus. Season 3 was a mess. Everything was all over the place. I rather we get no new maps and more new content with new stories from existing maps for new Seasons while Expansion packs provide both new maps and larger story. But hey that’s just my opinion.

The only things Season 3 did better was giving us the player character our voice back And improving the map mechanics tied with masteries. Boss fights where done better too, specially the last episode which had puzzle element too it.
Hope ArenaNet reads this.

Congratulations to Mike Zadorojny for being the Lead Designer for GW2 second expansion pack!

I’m looking forward to seeing what you and the ArenaNet team have been working on for the upcoming expansion pack!

I think it’s awesome that you’re going to be helping Mike O’Brien a lot by representing us the players so that he can focus more on the business aspect of the game. Being a CEO can be stressful so thank you Mike O’Brien and Mike Zadorojny.

Let’s make Guild Wars 2 great again! =)

Question for any Rangers out there. How do I use the 3rd great sword ability to run away from foes as apposed to leaping towards them.

I’m not sure what you mean. But I have a video of my Ranger going melee with GreatSowrd and Sword/Dagger.

It’s not 200+ episodes though.

Not all anime has 200+ episodes.
For example some have 13 episodes and 1 season only.

Witchblade doesn’t have 200+ episodes.
Figure17 doesn’t have 200+ episodes.
etc.
And those 2 examples above are my top favorite Anime shows! =D

Not all Anime has to be like Naruto or DragonBall

Hey guys.
So I really wanted to say I love and enjoy GW2 story. I enjoy the personal story, My season 1 movie, Season 2, Heart of Thorns and Season 3 story. I’m not sure about you guys but for some reason the voice acting and narrative makes it feel like I’m playing in an Anime world. Yeah I know the art style of the characters in game is not anime, but it feels like it is and to me that’s a good thing cause I love Anime. If it felt like Lord of the Rings then I would be less attracted to the game personally. The game to me feels more like an Anime voice acting wise and in game art / character model feels light and not too dark which anime strives on even with serious story. GW2 doesnt have a too serious story but it is a good story in my opinon nevertheless and when I play my character I feel like I wanna know more about my char and what adventures he will experience with his friends next episode.

The Living Story Seasons remind me of TV shows while Expansion Packs remind me of The Movie based on the TV show. I can’t wait for the last Episode of Season 3 and to see what the conclusion is, and where it will lead next and I am excited too see how the story developes in the next expansion pack. I hope we have a lot more story chapters for the next expansion. The Story instances are fun but the Heart of Thorns story was too short and felt rushed. I hope the next expansion learns from the previous. =)

How does my character know Mordremoth?

in Living World

Posted by: DreamyAbaddon.3265

DreamyAbaddon.3265

May I suggest re-recording the scene in Season 2 where the player character does NOT know an elder dragon named Mordermoth exists, and Timia explains the possibility of another elder dragon that these vines are based on so that people new and returning can have that sense of discovery when we build up to attacking Mordermoth?

The player character should not magically know what the player does not so to keep the story feel consistent it would help if you took my suggestion. Barely anybody remembers season 1 so it shouldn’t matter, and the new players never got to experience it anyways.

These days I’ve noticed a lot of new and returning players are watching my Guild Wars 2 – The Complete Season 1 Movie and even my movie doesn’t mention mordermoth or his name anyways. So it would cause no harm to re-record the dialogues for Season 2 for that scene. It would make it more consistent

Btw if anyone is wondering, my Season 1 complete movie is found here:

Can my computer run Guild Wars 2?

So Macbooks suck for the price then?

I wouldn’t go that far, but they’re certainly not a good performance per dollar value compared to what you can find in non-Apple systems. Macbooks seem to be pretty well-built, and are definitely nice to look at, but metal bodies and aesthetic-focused designs are more common now in higher end Windows notebooks. Premium machines that still seem to be generally cheaper than Apple’s comparable offerings.

A Mac is something you should probably only get for OSX. Whether that be just a strong preference for OSX itself or for software available only on Macs. I know they are popular, for good reason, among audio/video creators and editors. But for general use, and especially for gaming, you can get a lot more for your money elsewhere if you can live without an Apple logo on your computer.

Video/audio creators and editors like me prefer Windows PC over Macs because the price for the performance on a windows PC is much greater for such task. Specially in 3D animations. Also you have the option to upgrade over time which is much cheaper. So yeah, a PC does better for any task than a Mac. A person who buys a Mac is really paying for the OSX and maybe some software exclusive but… professionals left Final Cut long time ago. It used to be King back in the days though.

Everytime I read a title: “Can my PC run GW2?” then I see them list
“Intel i7”
“GTX”
Freakin “16GB RAM!!!” Like COME ON! Of COURSE IT CAN! LOL

You’re Not running a potato and even a potato can run GW2 just fine with an intel HD integrated graphics and YOU GOT a GTX Card which blows that out of the water!

Anyways for future reference you can play any game just fine with your specs at high settings with GTX1070, 16gb of Ram with Intel i7 7700k! No more asking if you can run games, just trust me your PC can handle ANY Game! =) You got a beast of a PC and you don’t even know it!!! Well you do now I hope. haha

I accidentally purchased 2 of the same skins from the Gem Store called Menzies’s Agony. I went to Support and make a ticket. I dont want my money back, I just want my gems back from the 2nd duplicate purchase I accidentally made. I did not claim the items from my ingame mail just in case.

I’m not sure what to do. Any idea when this will be resolved? When I requested a Refund on my ticket I don’t want them to give me my money back, I just want the gems back so I can buy something else from the Gem store. =( I’m so dumb. Someone please help!

I don’t like your friends request idea…
I like how it currently is. I think the UI is fine to be honest. It doesn’t need to be re-organized otherwise it would mess with the people who are currently used to the UI as it is now.

Yep, you’ve got that right, DreamyAbaddon. The Aura nerf in particular actually hurt PvP, which makes these changes even more ludicrous.

Luckily, we /totally/ don’t have visual clutter nowadays, right?

I loved the Aura effects. They were amazing!

Here is a 30 second video of my Elementalist fighting with big fire effects And some awesome Aura effects before the visual nerf update:

Wow, that was amazing! I didn’t realize how bad it is now.

There is more! Trust me! This is why it’s a big deal and I hope Mike Obrien decides to restore all the visual effects because kitten it’s worth it.

Remember when Colin promised our FX would come back? I still do. Too bad he left the company towards Amazon Game Studios.

I’m still largely inactive in GW2 until our skills can look good again.

This thread deserves to be bumped again. Heck, a GM suggested I should so anet know we want beautiful combat FX back, especially now that Effect LoD is improved and lets everyone see beautiful visuals or muted visuals on other player skills as much as they want.

And Jan, you weren’t asking for the stars. That’s exactly how Effect LoD works nowadays, for Ele Fireballs at least.

Wait… So does this mean we already have the visual fx back but it’s currently in the menu option? Or is that still being worked on? I really want my aura effects back and other awesome visual combat effects restored. =(
