I dislike Macs because …
I think we are missing the point here. Liking or disliking Macs is irrelevant. The issue at hand is:
- Anet sells Guild Wars 2 as working on Macs
- Guild Wars 2 does not work on Macs (performance was pretty poor leading up to HoT and nearly unplayable since HoT (which was known before launch, but they sold it anyway))Therefore, they need to either fix the Mac client as a priority or end support for it and compensate those who purchased for Mac use.
I hope they make a native client, but one may think they should end support rather than devote time to fixing the issue, and that is valid either way. However, opinions about whether people like Macs or not just does not matter relative to the situation and one would think, as a fellow customer, even those who don’t like Macs could get behind this situation having a resolution.
Did you even read my post or just read that one line and that’s it?
I hate it when people don’t even read a well thought out post…
But you are right. They need to either fix the mac client or end support to focus on more important issues and I hope they choose to end support not because I dislike macs, but because I want to see ArenaNet put more resources in new content since we are in need of it. Maybe resume the Mac client later? Idk… I just don’t think the mac client should be priority since PC gamers majority use Windows and that’s where the market is.
I feel I can safely most of the people e who takes PC gaming as a serious hobby are still not buying Mac products as their gaming rig …
I think it is safe to say that most people who play games are not serious gamers with a “gaming rig” in the first place. Most people have a home computer that serves several needs with gaming likely not being a priority. Yet, these same people still comprise the majority of computer users.
A typical person who plays games probably has a family, a job, and many other considerations. The gaming such a person does is probably a couple of hours on a few evenings or whatever during the week. The computer they have is most likely not optimised for gaming.
You are almost certainly right, however, that a serious game hobbiest, as you put it, has a special gaming computer. However, these people are not a majority.
Whether Anet finally decides to get serious about tapping the Mac user market is another question. I am sure they have all of the statistics about the market. And, it is obvious that they are interested (hence the so-called Mac Beta for the last couple of years). We are still yet to see, however, if they can manage to make it work. So far, it has been a poor effort, but maybe they will finally come through with a native client since the wrapper is on lifesupport. In the end, despite wanting the Mac market, they may have to let it go for lack of resources to deliver. Time, I suppose, will tell.
I do agree with you. However, Macs are luxary computer due to the price tag unlike Windows based PC which are pretty much for everyone since a PC can go as low as $100. People who usually tend to just need a PC for everyday task and not care much about gaming generally play on Consoles because it just works. However GW2 is a PC exclusive so you can’t really play the game on console… Let’s just see what happens. Though I personally prefer they use the resources on making new content instead cause GW2 does need new content after all.
OSX has hardware limitations and thus not viable option as a gaming platform because PCs evolves every year with newer and more powerful hardware that gets released every year.
I rather ArenaNet put their resources in adding new content instead of making OSX or Linux support. Content is what keeps players and brings new players in. Sure adding another platform could help business sales but right now content is what we need. The rest can wait. Windows has always been dominant in gaming for a reason, and that reason is Windows doesn’t have hardware limitations. It just works with all the latest hardware that come out each year.
OSX doesn’t have any hardware limitations… It runs on the exact same hardware that any Windows PC runs on. Just like with Windows there are low end macs and high end macs. And in fact most OSX computers have better specs that what a lot of mainstream consumers have with their PCs… The only limitations are software, and primarily DirectX vs OpenGL.
OSX has hardware limitations. If it did not have any hardware limitations then any hardware would be compatible with OSX but that’s not the case. Go build a Hackintosh and you’ll know how limited OSX can truly be in regarding the hardware it supports. If you go to an Apple store they don’t sell you a Mac with a dedicated latest gaming Graphics card… or even CPUs… Seriously, DirextX is not the only reason why more game devs stick to Windows platform, the openess to hardware is a big part of PC gaming and innovation. OSX is currently more popular as a general PC than Linux is however, Linux has a higher chance of success for gaming because it’s like Windows in most cases in regarding to being open to hardware choices which matters in PC gaming.
I dislike Macs because their hardware choices are pretty bad, but I do like OSX and Windows. In fact my very first PC is a Hackintosh that runs OSX and Windows so I know how a mac works and how OSX functions much better than you. OSX has hardware limitations because it doesn’t support all the latest hardware. If it did any hardware would run on a Hackintosh but it doesn’t because Apple doesn’t support certain hardware. PC gaming has always been a platform of choice which Macs are limited in. What I say is 100% accurate and considered a fact. Macs today do not come with dedicated GPUs such as GTX 980 Ti or TITAN GPUs…etc Go to an apple store and see for yourself. They give you crap hardware because they don’t support dedicated GPUs and latest tech for the price you pay for. The cheapest mac is equivalent to a $300 windows PC. Yes a Mac is a PC… but a PC that’s limited unlike Windows or Linux in terms of hardware choices which PC gaming depends on for future innovation. DirextX is another reason why Windows is a better choice for gaming but that’s not what we are talking about here. There is a reason why Windows is so successful. You can use Bootcamp to run Windows effeciantly on a Mac because Windows OS supports all sorts of Hardware while OSX lacks supports on most hardware.
Anet probably ditched the new legendaries to finish SAB.
I really hope this is the case. SAB has lots of things to do and it’s a fun content.
GTX TITAN Z!
Trust me… You want it.. You need it… You gotta get it in SLI… =D
I also use Nvidia ShadowPlay and it works flawlessly for me when recording GW2 footage. I’m not sure why it wouldn’t work for you. =(
Are you trolling??? Or is this a serious question?
You specs are Freakin Outstanding!!! How could you ask such questions!?
But yeah, like others said, GW2 isn’t optimized that great but your hardware is pretty kitten good. Btw your Processor is quad-core not 1 core…
Apple makes Overpriced and terrible computers (Hardware wise) and game developers prefer windows because Windows just works with all kinds of hardware. Nvidia, AMD, and Intel make tons of innovative and powerful hardware that Windows supports while Macs lack these kinds of support because of OSX has hardware restrictions. A game developer wants to be able to design and create games without limits, they tend to enjoy innovating where they can while a real PC gamer would rather upgrade their hardware for their PC to take full advantage for the latest tech that the developers made for them.
Apple doesn’t want their users to upgrade their computers to the latest tech. They don’t play nice with other hardware manufacturer so they lack innovation for the future of computing. A Mac user would have to buy a brand new computer for more money with less power since OSX again, doesn’t support the latest hardware. You can only use the hardware Apple wants you to use and you’re stuck with that hardware for good. The main hardware that gets upgraded for gaming is the CPU and GPU which you can’t do on the new Macs anyways.
Linux is just like Windows that the OS supports pretty much any hardware from what I read. While OSX is more popular than Linux as a general OS, I believe Linux would be more successful for GW2 and GW2 should be released on Steam to open up a more broad audiance interested in gaming. OSX has never been for gaming because hardware limitations on the OS… It’s like trying to develop a game for a console instead of a real PC. A Mac can’t even run Oculus Rift VR gaming because Apple’s computers lack raw power in the GPU department.
I hope OSX users like you would realize Windows and Linux is the future for gaming on computers. If you don’t like it blame Apple and tell them to be open to other hardware manufacturer. Tell Apple to be more open like Linux and Microsoft regarding their OS. Don’t blame the game developers. They don’t make Apple computer… Apple makes Apple computers and those computers are not a viable option for gaming for reason I stated above. I say Apple is the blame for the lack of game developer support in Macs.

Anet, please give us back our auras! I heard that it is possible that we will get our auras back by April 2016. Any truth to this or just rumor?
Any news on who is replacing Colin and that person’s design ideologies?
Yeah I’m with you on this. I’m getting annoyed with the visual nerfs =(
1- Bring back SAB
2- Restore the VisualFX back to the original before the Visual nerf bat.
3 – Living Story Season 3
That’s correct. This game is buy to play.. There are no subscription fees to play so it needs some kind of source of income so they can support the game and ArenaNet doesn’t like pay-to-win concept and neither do the players so they go with cosmetic and convinient items.
I always buy gems when I can to support the game.
I want more content so this is my way of getting what I want while showing my love and support for the devs.
Now if only they bring back SAB and the visual effects they nerfed. =) I’ll pay for the portable SAB from gem store if they just sell it.
I true challenging content can be achieved in a party of 3 man instance, where all 3 players must coordinate Control while contributing in dealing Damage while Supporting each other while moving and dodging from incoming attacks.
Bosses and enemies are should NOT be imnuned to control effects and they should not have a LARGE Health pool that takes forever to chip. I feel the boss fights generally from Season 2 was the right direction to take bosses but they the bosses should not be immuned to knockbacks and such with a 3 man instance content I’m thinking of.
I think it’s best to be creative with bosses and be inspired from single player games like from Metriod prime boss fights or something.
When there are more people, it’s easier to mess up and be carried but when you got only 3 people in these challenging group content, these “Assaults” then you can’t mess up otherwise you all die. Team work becomes more essential than a 10 man raid because you have higher chance of failure when you don’t have a lot of people to back you up.
alternate solution: stop holding down space bar to try and jump higher (your jump is the same height no matter what)
This is not a solution.
The way I do jumping puzzles since beta of this game I push down the space button to do long jumps and sometimes I double tap the space bar to jump rappidly on smaller platforms and both of those methods cause me to accidently glide which is a pain.
This issue never occured until they added the glider ability which broke the core game for me during Jumping Puzzles, which btw, are my favorite content in GW2. A real solution would be to give us an ability to unequip the glider or to toggle it off so it doesn’t interfere during these moments. Telling me to adopt to a broken mechanic like this is not a solution.
Can you give us the ability to disable our own glider?
Sometimes when I do Jumping Puzzles, I accidentally glide and it causes me to mess up..
It annoys me so much. =(
Solution:
Maybe let us unequipped our gliders in the glider menu so it would prevent us from gliding accidentally?
Thanks! =)
I just read the AMA by Mike O’Brien and nobody asked about the visuals? or did i miss something? I think i’ll remain sceptic just like Zoltar, i’m hoping for an ETA from A-net
Nobody asked about the Visual Nerfs…
I wont lie, it sounds like this is your first PC…
Open Start menu then just type “Guild Wars” and it should show up on the list. Right click it and pin to task bar again and ur done. If you have trouble feel free to call me on skype and show me the problem and I’ll try to help.

Hi everyone.
I’ve decided to buy a laptop to play gw2 when i’m not at home, but I’m not sure which one should I choose. I don’t want very powerfull and expensive one, but also I don’t want to have 10 fps and 5 minutes loading screens in gw2. Unfortunately, I never had any laptops before, so I have no idea about this.
My budget is 500-600 euros, I don’t mind playing on minimum graphics (max performance setting) and I don’t plan doing WvW on it. Just some casual fractals, sw, map exploring and etc. Please give me some advice. Thanks!
I guess if you want I dont mind helping you pick a laptop. I build PCs.
My skype is: DreamyAbaddon
Yeah I would like the ability to turn off speedboost in town and gliders when doing jumping puzzles from masteries because it does make it terrible at times.. =(
Jumping puzzles. Do all the jumping puzzles. Do them again and again until you know them by heart. That’s where the action is.
I find it difficult to get to some of the vistas lol.
Alright do you have skype for voice chat?
If so add me. My Skype is: DreamyAbaddon
I’m online now if you’re up for it.
Got one of my characters to 80 a while ago and stopped playing after that. Mainly because I didn’t know what to do. I also have the Heart Of Thorns expansion but I really didn’t get far into it. This game looks really cool and I want to keep playing it. So any ideas on what I can do would be great.
Well if you want we can play together and I can help you learn how to improve in combat, make builds, and we can do other things in game in HoT maps and such. I can show you how Mastery system works.
Are you in NA or EU server?
The smaller events that just happen, that have no relation to the meta is what I am talking about.
I see lots of dynamic events in HoT…
Maybe I’m not seeing something you are? Or you’re not seeing something I am?
As an Asian player who came to GW2 in order to escape from Korean MMOs, these comments makes me giggle.
Maybe the grass of your neighbor is always greener. And those who say that Anet treat their customers wrong have no idea how east Asia game companies treat their player lol.
Oh I know how Asian game companies treat their players.
I played FFXI for 7 years before I quit and I hate Squar Enix as a company more than ever. They milk their franchise and try to get you to grind only so you play longer to pay them monthly rather making content fun, easily playable and accessible. I’ll never go back to that god awful game again.
Oh and any feedback they get from the West they ignore in favor for their Japanese player base… Yeah it’s terrible lol
Is BnS PvP really that great? The “combos” and knocking people into the air looks cool and all that but what specifically makes it so much more fun and rewarding than Gw2 PvP?
Yes. For starters you can actually see your target, even in a mob of people.
The way the combat works makes it more fun than GW2 PvP in my opinion because there is no messy tab targeting and it’s very skill based, if you are bad you will lose regardless of class. Balance is better than GW2 due to not having an overabundance of build diversity that just ends up negating most traits/skills, which is super important in PvP. Also, if you actually like fighting your opponent this game is better because there are 1v1 and 3v3 arena matches, no point capture or stronghold BS just plain and simple fighting. Then there’s open world PvP, no zerging BS or tower capture – you actually get to fight the enemy! Although for those who do like PvE in their PvP there are faction quests where your faction must defeat NPCs or bosses, so there’s something for everyone and you aren’t forced into doing anything you don’t want to do.
The only downside is you want to reach max level first and in the case of open world PvP gear up first. You don’t have to, its still possible to win if you are good enough but if you want an equal playing field you’ll want to. I guess WvW has that problem too though, so GW2 doesn’t beat it on that front either.
Skill based eh?
Tell me if you delete your lvl cap Assassin and remake a new Assasin that’s level 1 and you fight someone who is maxed level, who will win? If it’s skill based then naturally the winner with better skill execution and strategy should win but if you lose against a maxed level player because you are level 1 then it’s not skill based. Specially in PvP.
In GW2 level doesn’t matter. Player’s skill execution and strategy does since everyone has access to everything and are boosted to level cap in the first place.
Here are my problems with Blades & Souls:
1. After combat, your character’s health doesn’t get full quickly like GW2 (You need potions/foods)
2. During Combat, Not all classes can dodge. (Like wtf?)
3. All classes can’t heal themselves, (At least in GW2 we have a healing skill)
4. Classes are locked under character race… (This is dumb)
5. No Dynamic Events with voice acting. (Are we really going back to questing?)
6. Silent Protagonist – (I want to hear my character talk during combat & in cutscenes!)
7. Combat is Not skill based – (At least in GW2 you can try all classes in Heart of the Mists which would boosted your level up to lvl80 with all skills, traits and stats unlocked for you to experiment with before deciding if you like the class to continue leveling in PvE or taking it out for PvP. )
While B&S combat is unique with combos and all, I would like it so much better if I didn’t have these issues above. If those issues where not present then I would say “Yes… B&S is somewhat a threat to GW2 for me” but I said “Somewhat” because B&S would still be different from GW2 in combat and story that it would be a nice change to play both.
(edited by DreamyAbaddon.3265)
I do not think they can turn it on till they finish working on it, it is not quite so simple as flicking a switch. We just have to be patient DreamyAbaddon.
A free to play player was able to get into it with no problems a few months ago.
Yeah he was the chosen one and yet he wanted out remember? lol
I honestly don’t care that SAB is broken right now, I just want to play it… Plz turn it on so we can just play it! T_T I miss it so much…
Adding my two bits to this. I haven’t had time to play a whole lot for a while but I finally decided to play my old, first toon love tonight – my fire elemental. Imagine my surprise (all of you know, duh…I know ;o) when I found I was no longer lobbing what was a fairly decent fiery ball of testosterone but a little flame-spitting pebble. One of the things that makes this game fun is to actually feel like you’re entertaining your alter ego.
I am usually fairly satisfied with directions the devs take this game (and I really only play solo PvE, so I know there is a ton of stuff I am completely ignorant of) but this actually causes me consternation…I don’t want to play my ele because of this. Argh!
The rest seems fine. ;o)
Have you gotten the chance to see how terrible the Aura Nerf was?
It looks like you are inside an egg and it’s barely visible. See it for yourself. I Guarantee you will cry if you remembered how it looked originally. =)
Don’t forget to add the magic carpet.
I made a separate post on that one =D
Probably your best option is to join a guild that will help you learn, since it’s much easier to learn as you’re going along. But here’s a few things which might be useful to know however, based on your post:
Gear Levels
I have no idea what those are, but there are two factors which determine how good equipment is in this game: the level requirement (which is the level your character has to be to use it) and the rarity/tier (text colour).
There are 6 tiers which, in order, are:
- Common (White)
- Fine (Blue)
- Masterwork (Green)
- Rare (Yellow)
- Exotic (Orange)
- Ascended (Pink)
All equipment with the same rarity and level requirement is equally good, if you craft a level 80 exotic staff (for example) it will be just as good as any level 80 exotic staff you could get from enemies or as a story reward or from dungeons etc.
Useful equipment
A good choice when you first get to level 80 is to get a full set of exotic equipment, because those are widely available and ascended (the next and final tier) is intended to be a difficult, long-term goal.
Exotic equipment can come from a variety of places: you can trade dungeon tokens for it at a vendor in LA, buy it with karma from the temples in Orr, get it as drops and story rewards, craft it or buy it from the Trading Post for gold.
The tricky part is working out what stats you want on it, as although they’re all equally strong they’re not all equally useful for you. Although elementalists are more easily able to use all the stats than many professions, and several people choose to use Celestial gear (which spreads the points equally between all stats, whereas most level 80 gear has just 3 stats). It might be worth having a look at the elementalist section of the forum to get some ideas.
Dungeon & level scaling
One thing which is very different between this game and most of them is that your level scales to the area you’re in. Which means its quite common to see level 80 characters everywhere, even in starting areas. The same applies to dungeons. (In fact some people have complained that it’s hard to find a party before level 80.)
This is an important thing to bear in mind because whilst it has a lot of upsides in that it means you can do content in almost any order and get useful rewards and fun gameplay anywhere in the game it also has a downside because it means you can’t ever assume reaching the max level means you’re safe. You won’t be able to 1-shot everything in low level zones, or ignore them because they’ll never do enough damage to kill you.
Oh wow, thank you your post is really helpful! I guess my best bet is really finding a nice guild who would be willing to help me a little.
I dont have a guild to offer but I’d be happy to help you learn everything you need to know regarding making builds and improving in combat through skype?
My Skype is: DreamyAbaddon
feel free to add me and give me a call! ^-^ I’m available right now if you’re on.
A whole new world in Tyria!
We already have a Magic Flying Carpet toy where we can move around standing on a Carpet but can we PLEASE have it as a glider skin too so we can glide around on our carpet? It would be so epic! Please ArenaNet consider it if you havn’t! ^-^

I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did

Take you wonder by wonder

A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming+1 to this definitely. love the outfit. its perfect
The guy below the pic looks like Jeffar and the guy riding the carpet looks like Alladin! ^-^
I guess ArenaNet doesn’t care… =(
I was thinking we should have a new feature for new players where they can click on a “Mentor Search” icon which would open up a Menu that lists of all the Mentors in the current map so they can whisper them at anytime with questions they may have.
I was thinking when a new player is lvl2 after the tutorial zone, there should be a pop-up style tutorial showing newbies how to click on “Mentor Search” icon if they need help or have questions about the game from veteran players who are volunteering to help them out if needed.
This proposal is to make it easier for new players to seek mentors when they need help and for mentors to seek newbies who need help.
Please allow us to use our Flying Broom Sticks as a glider skin like HarryPotter!!! Oh GOD PLEASE!!! It would be soo Epic!

Got a reply from Bobby:
Hi Konig,
I’m glad that you and others are passionate about the game and interested in seeing Season 1 restored in some form or fashion, but that’s not something I can comment on. I’ve stated in the past a personal desire to work on such a project but ultimately that decision is out of my hands, as is the outward messaging. I know it’s not the answer you and others were looking for but I wanted to reply, just the same.
Thanks,
Bobby
So basically “cannot comment on it” – but what’s odd, to me, is that he commented on it 2 months ago. Which implies to me (tinfoil hat time) that there was a change on the subject matter.
Whether there was or not, however, I feel that 2016 with its focus on improving content over making new content, reworking Season 1 into a permanent format would be more than fitting.
Thanks for the Update.
So you think they are working on it but not saying it or you think they are not saying it because they are not working on it?
Edit: I sent Bobby Stein a PM hoping for a new update given a few months passed and we got that plans for 2016 blog post out. So hopefully we’ll get a dev’s word on the matter.
I just want to confirm this:
When you PMed Bobby, did you ask him to update us regarding Season 1 remake in season 2 format for 2016? And did he say to you he has the plans regarding season 1 remake in the future 2016 blog post which will be released later?I asked him if he could post here to denote whether or not there’s been an update in the plans for Season 1’s return, figuring there might be one worth mentioning because 2 months have passed since last update on the matter and the blog post was released.
He did not reply to my PM.
Thanks for clarifying that =)
While it’s interesting to see that other side perspective…
I think in my opinion going silent on a project during development is not the way to go.
Sure the devs dont want to over promise and under deliver, and sure they dont want to promise something they may not be able to achieve, however, the players will understand if they just communicate with us and let us know: “Hey we tried but due to this issue (Reason) we discovered we are unable to solve the problem to make this feature possible so for that reason we are putting this project at hold until we discover another solution.” - I feel this kind of communication is important. Early stage development should be communicated with players in MMO and so should an update on near release if it’s just about to get ready.
Again this is my opinion since I want to hear about SAB which they went silence, I want to hear about restoring Visual effects and adding visual noise slider, I want to hear about these matters but when they dont communicate it feels they are doing nothing. This is why I oppose the idea of “We are being silence because we are working on it and dont want to promise something we may be unable to achieve” bs….

I was so happy to read today that SAB is back on track!
Yayyyy!!!!
Wait did they mentioned SAB?
Did I miss this?
I have a feeling we’ll get some word about this next tuesday. Just feeling…
You’re getting me hyped…
Regarding Inspection:
The reason why there are no Gear/Build Inspecting is so players are encouraged to make their own builds rather than copy other people’s build. Also it prevents other players from cheating in PvP by looking at someone else’s build then making a counter build before the match even begins. Also Gear/Build inspecting prevents Elite Noobs from judging you before seeing you in action in raids, dungeons, and fractals. Player skills outweighs exotic builds after all.
Regarding Dueling
MMOs with Dueling is known to have increadibly terrible community. If you want to PvP then do it in Heart of Mists where your level can be maxed out, with access to all skills, traits, and stats you need so that you can show off your skills against your friends in a proper PvP match. People who play in PvE want to enjoy PvE without other players trolling them around by spamming Duel request or random killing of afk players.
So do you guys think this will be restored like the Personal Story was when that was once butchered?
I had a dream 2 nights ago that I woke up, check GW2 website and SAB was live permanently! I got excited and got into the game and played it with friends… Then I woke up and realized it was a dream… DARN IT!!! I Want SAB So bad! T_T
kitten I still can’t believe they havn’t fixed this issue yet…
ArenaNet you broke your game’s visual effects… people hate it… fix it..
Just play the game man. Enjoy it.
Explore the world, talk to NPCs, listen to NPCs chatting to each other, do Dynamic Events, Vista challenge, Hero Challenge, unlock new waypoints and POI, do Jumping Puzzles and mini-Dungeons. Enjoy the Personal Story, do some Dungeons, Fractals and enjoy some PvP and WvW and gather everything you see and craft as much as you can.
Ultimatly just have fun.
Once you’re level80 and you buy HoT there is more fun to do with planety of new content and minigames you can enjoy like Adventures…
Do what you enjoy and try everything the game offers.
I PMed Colin in Reddit and he never got back to me. I’m either being ignored or his busy. I don’t know which one but I’m worried about the future of the game more than ever now…
I’m playing Blades and Soul Beta this weekend and I love it.
The visual effects are way more impressive than GW2’s since the visual nerf bat.
The fact that I’m enjoying it better than GW2 is a bad sign.
Also Blades & Soul is E-sport in Asia…
