Sword/Torch Build. What will work best?

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

I play my ranger casually from time to time, but have noticed I’ve been giving him more time than usual, and I think it’s time to get a little serious about it.

Let me start off: I love Sword/Torch. It’s fun, its fluid, and the sword is just great. So with that parameter set, I would like to try making a build for him around that.

I will WvW with him, and I mainly roam. I would LIKE to try the condi route, but if it doesn’t work, that is ok. What do you guys think, I was hoping the collective ranger community could help me round out this problem.

Thanks!

My suggestion would be run a Rampagers set with sharpened edges and maybe even sharpening stones, grab companions might, Sigil of earth, and then put 20pts in WS, and 20 in BM (take vigorous training)

For your pet build, drop the 10pts in WS, out them in skirmishing, take companions might, you’re running 30 BM with Magi gear, take advantage of your crit chance.

greatsword vs sword/warhorn

The sword attacks are fast enough that as long as you aren’t button mashing you can attack as fast as possible and still be able to dodge. You just have to know the rhythm.

Then there is the fact that most dungeon bosses won’t one shot you. I often get drunk, button mash and just eat the hits because there really isn’t much danger (like CoF1, the slaver and effigy can’t kill you even as a full zerker.)

Drunk pve is significantly more fun. Also another thing I think people should consider is that sword builds will get significantly more might onto your pet. Between sword auto and Companion’s Might your pet should ideally have max might stacks most of the time (including what they get from Fortifying Bond). Everyone has seen videos of ranger pets (jaguar especially) hitting like a truck. Just saying this is something to consider in the sword vs. gs debate.

Sword can only keep 3-5 stacks of might up from auto attack alone, so you’ll need outside help to boost your pets might

Also, Guardian GS autoattack deals 2333 dps with the same power and weapon strength calculations as I used above. Warrior’s does 1916 dps. Mesmer’s does 2363 when at maximum range, meaning, guardian definitely wins.

Well, a guardian, warrior, or mesmer who does nothing but autoattack is barely tapping the potential DPS of their greatsword.

And, a Ranger isn’t…why?

Ranger too. I’m saying that calculating just the straight autoattack DPS of GS isn’t really a good way to compare to sword’s DPS. Unlike GS, sword’s DPS is maximized by autoattack (well, you can throw in secondary weapon attacks too).

And while we’re on the topic, the Oct 15 patch notes say they increased Maul’s damage by 7%.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-October-15-2013/first#post3079024

The wiki updated its damage from 406 to 434. This would correspond to its skill coefficient increasing from 1.5 to 1.6. But the wiki still lists the coefficient as 1.5.

Has anyone tested this to see if the wiki is in error, or if we never got the damage increase?

Oh, we got the damage increase it’s been pretty apparent, however the wiki is often outdate (or even flat out wrong) when it comes to ranger abilities, ESPECIALLY if they deal with the pet!

Please STOP USING EMPATHIC BOND
it is a terrible trait. It hurts YOU more then it helps you. Anyone saying anything else is a fool.

How? I know its not great, but its one of the best traits we’ve got.

It destroys your pet, which is a large portion of your damage, it doesn’t matter if the pet isn’t DYING from the trait, if it’s taking cripple, chill, and weakness the thing may as well be dead.

It does matter if the pet isn’t dieing from the trait. It can still deal damage.
You completely missed the fact that the pet will barely have any problems if there are points in BM, but if not; the ranger has CC, Evade and other kind of crap which can be used for a much greater benefit than some animal that would otherwise only be used for damage.

The fight isn’t lost when the pet dies, it is lost when the ranger dies. That is why it is better if the pet has the cripple

How is your pet gonna deal damage when it’s crippled or chilled? It will literally never be able to attack your target unless they are standing still or the pet is ranged, this will cut the balls off your pet rendering any CC or damage it WOULD bring useless and leave it nothing more than a condi sponge. That’s a HUGE chunk of damage, and if you’re a BM ranger that is 50% of your damage your just removing.

And as you said, we have plenty of CC and Evades so use those instead of gutting your pet and you’ll be amazed how much better you’ll do.

I saw the post in the morning (in EU) and was surprised that this was still on page 1 on the ranger forums. I wonder if this is a general GW2 population thing or a ranger one.

Anyhoo, it was interesting to hear on the zerker longbow tpvp experience. I think that zerker longbow is not far away from being a decent point cap build. I would also love to see some poison mastery thing, but at the same time – as someone in the CDI pointed out correctly – even though rangers have a lot of access to poison, a lot of those come from pets. So the poison trait (if it gets introduced) would either need to have no ICD so we could capitalize on our poison fields, or it should apply to pet poison as well. S/d, sb might just be more interesting with a twist to it. Whatever that poison trait would be, it would be hard to capitalize on it on LB.

Actually LB would be very easy to capitalize on it with if you’re running a pet with a poison field because you have 2 100% finishers for 4s of poison, + Rapid Fire which would net you a pretty good amount of poison.

Then there’s always runes and sigils to gain access to it, so if you WANTED it on LB it’d be doable.

That being said I do think that any “Poison Mastery” traits/buffs or w/e they are should also apply to our pet.

And as for Zerker LB ranger in tPvP, i feel like it’s already competitive, it’s just not used because people aren’t playing it right, most zerker LB rangers i see charge into like 900 range and start fighting and don’t really kite or utilize the stealth or KB very well.

Why can’t they work on both at once? And whose to say they ARENT working on an expansion? I mean we kinda just found out that Mordremoth was woken up by scarlet so clearly something big is coming!

Is healing power on rangers viable?

in Ranger

Durzlla.6295

The trait does not benefit from healing power in the slightest. It is deadlocked at 125/3 seconds for player and 125/second for pets.

This is false, it’s deadlocked for the player, NOT the pet.

@OP: ranger may be THE best prof (other than maybe a staff ele) to use healing power on due to how well our heals scale off of the stat, and due to the absolutely ridiculous amount of regen uptime we have, and then if you go BM you do get 10% of it as power which isn’t GREAT, but it helps balance you out a little.

Sorry durrz, but so far, i cannot see any proof of the pet gaining any bonus, the healing stays 125/tick and atm i run my clerics gear, which means i got 1725 Healing power with 25 life stacks.
Build, full clerics 0/0/10/30/30, ascended trinkets (mostly) ascended longbow, ascended helm, chest, legs – all cleric. Mango ice-cream food.

Trait; me – ticks 125/3 seconds, and 125/second for pet. If you want i can record it.
Signet of the Wild is the one where pet benefits the most, whereas players get 62+0.06*Healing Power, and pet gets 125+0.25*healing power.

PS; im ingame now, and actually my bear doesnt get any ticks from the trait at all. I get 133/3 seconds, bear – nothing, nix, nada….
Seems weird, cuz that trait worked perfectly fine a few days ago when i ran my regen ranger… Maybe i didnt notice, but it may be broken for some reason that is completely unknown to me.
It should heal me for 125/3 sec and pet 125/sec if infocard/internal skill info is correct…. but it doesnt….

Edit; yes the pet was damaged, i deliberately told it to eat a hammerswing from the LA assault knight. Took 70% of its HP in one swing. So yes, it should have ticked. Only time it got any ticks was when it activated its own regen skill (bite). Other then that, no healing. I made sure to only run the trait and not use shout regen or SotW

Hmmm, i got on to check it myself and i’m not seeing it ticking at all either, i had tested this a few months ago and there WAS an increase (pretty minor increase, but it was there).

More ranger stealth nerfs (a bug granted) yaaaaaaaaay!!

~100 extra damage * 50 players * 15 minutes is a rather large damage increase and probably enough to fill in the gap caused by low dps players. Of course there’s no way you’re going to get them to do it however.

It probably wouldn’t be quite that high because most DPS players generally are among the crowd that want to do as much damage as physically possible, and as such are already using the buffs, but I do see what you’re getting at.

Putting players in a situation where “you need to play Zerker/full DPS otherwise you can forget about beating this content” is NOT a good idea.

But that’s wrong. All you need to do is come prepared, bring your best geared character, get the damage buff from the mystic plaza merchant, use the scarlect tonic and maybe even eat some buff food and suddenly you are way more effective.

No, he’s right, I’ve tried that thinking “oh that’ll actually help my damage right?” And all it does is boost me from ~700-900 a hit to ~850-1050 a hit, nota huge DPS increase and not worth the gold.

I don’t know why you’re spreading your traits so thin, It looks like you’d be weakening yourself way too much by doing so.

Also, it looks like you’ve done most of your planning on paper, which really doesn’t work out since Cross Fire has to hit from behind, which is much harder to do than before, ALSO, your crit chance is abysmal, if you want to take advantage of that bleeds on crit trait you’re going to want to drop your poison oil, take up a potent master oil (increases crit chance by 3%), drop the rabid gear for Rampager, and have some perma fury of somesort.

Personally, I thought you were going to go with a build similar to mine (idk why i thought that since i’m the only one mad enough to run Magi), where you run Magi armor (full set other than trinkets, that stuff is clerics), 20 (or maybe it was 25…) in skirmishing taking the 30% pet crit trait and might on crit, 20 in WS, 20 in BM, and the rest in NM, sure most of my damage was locked up in my pet, but i was tanky, i was able to boost my pet, and i brought enough CC from my weapons and utilities i could kite for days.

Don’t remember what my rune set was, I think it was like Eagle or something like that (crit chance and crit damage).

TL/DR:

Your points are too spread, your focus is lacking both utility and gear/pet wise, I see what you’re TRYING to get at, but you’re going to need to make quite a few changes to get there.

If you want a Survivable condi dealer there are PLENTY of builds that do this nicely already, I’m pretty sure they normally go like 10/0/30/0/30 or something like that (i’m sure you can find one of them on this forum really easily)

According to the Wiki, the Attack of Opportunity doesn’t trigger on any interrupt your pet deals, but from what people say here, the lengthened stun/daze duration is applied to what pets deal?

It’s really a shame that they couldn’t just have this apply to the pet 100%. I think it could potentially make a viable sPvP build if you used something like a S/A and longbow while using Wolf/Hyena or something.

No, the trait doesn’t affect your pets interrupts in ANY way, the only reason it works with Boars F2 is because all pigs F2 spawns 1 of 3 environmental weapons (varies on which pig), all the boars weapons apply a CC that benefits from MoC, and since you are picking up the weapon and using the skill it gives you the bonus.

Ahh, ok. That makes sense.

@ Forzani: Yea, the Boar has those, but the Warthog also has the Fear as a possible Forage: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Forage

No, the Warthog only has Scale, Venom Sack, Gunk

The Boar only has Rock, Bone, Skull

The pig only has Seed, Egg, Rum

And Siamoth only has feathers, fur (same as feathers), and Ectoplasm.

The wiki is highly inaccurate with environmental weapons, for example: it states that throw rock is a knockdown which is wrong, that’s Throw Boulders effect, throw rock is a very very very rare “natural” environmental item which is a very fast projectile and a daze instead of a slow moving lob that KD and is literally everywhere.

Boar pet for the forage skills. Iirc you can get the item (bone i think) that lets you stun (or was it daze) that gets increased duration from MoC.

All 3 of the items get increased by MoC, so you’ve got a boosted AoE fear, a boosted long range daze, and a boosted Melee range (idk if it cleaves) stun.

I know the stun is 6s with MoC, and I think the daze is like 8s and the fear is like 6s (when like right next to someone)

I find it rather insulting that people who main ranger do not experiment. I have spent over 400 gold transmuting, 1000s of dungeon tokens and have 2 legendaries on my ranger. I have tried everything from trapper, BM, spirit, dps, hell even bearbow for shts and giggles.

The ranger can work, but it works badly and is not reliable in some content like WVW and Living story.

I experiment endlessly, just not in PvE cause that kittens expensive and I’ve already found a gear + Rune set that fits my style of play.

That being said, we have A LOT of viable options they’re just not used very often and harder to play, that and this game has a pet system that is more “reactive” IE: I see my pet doing X so I do Y for synergy, than most games (like WoW) where you demand your pet does X, when you want it to do X, so you can do Y.

They both work very well, one is just not nearly as common as the other, and I feel is harder to use.

That being said I’m very disappointed in the CDI, because 1) Wild Wannabe Developers appeared and flooded the forum with HORRIBLE ideas. 2) when Anet finally gave some info they got yelled at for literally no reason 3) very few seasoned rangers are in that thread, and the most vocal rangers in there tend to be very unskilled and unfamiliar with anything ranger.

Well traps aren’t classified as traps because they trigger when an enemy walks over them, it’s just “they’re triggered when a viable target walks over them” and healing spring targeting allies would trigger as soon as you cast it at your feet, just like it did as a trap in GW1, if it were thrown I doubt it’d trigger the spring unless an ally triggered it though.

Spirits aren’t classified as having a % chance, they’re classified as being a summoned creature that buffs allies, which can be destroyed to end their effect early.

The way you’re describing skills would be like me saying “shouts buff allies, therefore Fear Me! And On My Mark! And Sick’Em need to be changed.”

Pet damage for non beastmaster builds?
Shortbow range?
Shortbow “animation fix” mega nerf?

Key word is bolded, when SB had same range as longbow there was literally 0 reason to use the longbow, pet damage was nerfed because you could go bunker with literally 0 drawback, and SB animation fix was to make the weapon not ungodly OP, after that “mega nerf” it continued to be, and still is, one of our best weapons.

The most important piece of information mentioned by any dev post in the CDI so far was actually the post about the intent to give rangers more options for condition removal outside of Empathic Bond, which is happening “soon.”

I guess you’re specifically referring to the “soon” part because it’s been said on at least one STOG months ago that I remember (pretty sure it was by a Mr. Sharp) that they were “working” on getting more active condition removal into the Ranger’s line up.

Yeah but we’re also talking about a balance team that only releases big changes quarterly, if we’re that lucky. The fact is, it’s finally a red post confirming information that will make most ranger players who do any sort of playing outside of PvE sigh with relief. at least until we see the patch notes to confirm whether any implemented change is actually a decently viable one.

All I gotta say is if the new condi removal is another “slap em on your pet!” Ability I’m going to flip every table in Anets HQ…

Especially when there’s this really potentially amazing trait called “Evasive Purity” that could be very easily altered lol.

A lot of you seem to be assuming by me saying “we don’t need burst” and “burst isn’t as useful as sustain” as “our damage is totally fine and doesn’t need to be fixed”.

Our direct damage is absolutely kitten poor compared to everyone else’s, sustained or not, ESPECIALLY in WvW, that being said I think it’s more that everyone else’s damage (for the most part) is too high for the game.

As someone said, some burst builds deal 15k damage and it’s quite literally “dodge or die” that’s a problem, that needs to be toned down, not is being out up to the point where our sustain matches their burst over the same time frame.

Also, we DO have burst options, we have ways to make maul hit for 37k in sPvP god knows how high that gets in WvW and PvE. Also, pets have ample access to burst as well, we’ve got ravens and the double F2 (gonna be a lot better once they fix the F2 responsiveness), we’ve got drakes, we’ve got Canine KD + SotH, we’ve got the jaguar+ stealth + Sick’Em, we have options, they’re just not used very often.

@Bri, PvE I’d say is where damage needs to be nerfed the most, it’s quite literally zerker or gtfo because with going full glass you can completely trivialize encounters. That shouldn’t happen, EVER. Granted the wurm and maybe tea kettle may need their DPS requirements dropped to compensate, but the other bosses in the game are FAR from needing that.

That works well while roaming, but in a zerg single target sustained damage is nearly useless. No one can time any cooldown vs burst cooldowns when you don’t know where the damage is coming from.

The only profession capable of bursting you from range atm is a warrior using kill shot, or a staff ele hitting you with their “The world is splitting open, hey let’s throw in some more obvious tells to these damage skills” abilities being chained together, other than that you’re either going to 1) see the warrior/thief/guardian/ranger/engi/Mesmer clone brigade/ele/necro either pounding your face in or running in for the burst or 2) you’ll get hit by a kill shot and die from the warrior hiding in the Zerg or 3) you’re completely oblivious, or chain CCed, and got nuked by the eles stuff crashing down on your face at the right time.

In WvW zergs, and anywhere else really, if you’re being bursted, you know kitten well where it’s coming from. And if you don’t that’s YOUR fault for not paying attention.

Also, how is single target sustain nearly useless? If you’re planning on zergling you’ve for piercing arrows, that or you need to really rethink your build choice, so you’re not gonna do single target, you’ll be causing some collateral damage as well.

Not to mention MOST zerglings tend to run full glass with no defensive CDs because there’s safety in the Zerg, so your single target sustain is going to absolutely shred them because they have absolutely no way to mitigate it. Burst in this game is ALWAYS easy to mitigate due to the dodge role, sustained is just as hard to mitigate as always, I mean sure, you can dodge, but evading for 2s isn’t going to affect a rangers constant arrows thumping into you.

I think that we all agree that right now, considering all the gap-closers, escape habilities, teleports and stealths, the game rewards powerful bursts and Hit’n Run tactics.
That’s why sustained damage is not very effective.

It would be nice to see the Devs opinion on this matter.

Well they seem to have already given their opinion which, unfortunately, involves nerfing the DPS of the other classes in an attempt to make Rangers’ sustained damage relatively more viable. The much more logical option would instead be to bring the Ranger’s burst capabilities up to par with the other classes’. This would not only require less work but it would also appease the Ranger community and avoid kittening off the other classes.

I have a feeling our lack of burst capabilities is the primary reason (though of course there are others) that we have always been ‘bottom of the pile’.

Actually, the logical thing is doing exactly what they want to do and nerf everyone else’s damage.

Damage in GW2 is too kitten high atm, ESPECIALLY in PvE content, it’s to the point where you just take high burst and just burst bosses down so fast that you completely ignore the mechanics of the fights.

Not to mention burst isn’t NEARLY as useful as sustain is, burst can be completely nullified by a good player with relative ease thanks to the dodge mechanic, sustain can not. If you want to weaken sustain damage you’ve gotta run a defensive build, and if you’re running a defensive build you’re good vs burst damage too.

For example, if the enemy pops a CD to go invuln for 6s as someone’s bursting, all their damage is gone, where if they popped it vs us sustained damage dealers it’s hardly an issue because we deal the same damage at a constant rate overtime.

I am afraid to say that the devs have no concept for the ranger. They are throwing random changes out without any vision what so ever and then change the supposed philosophy to match the random changes.

have you even read the CDI? Or even looked at the changes that have happened to ranger? They’ve all fit the same theme…

Theorycrafting on Scarlet

Durzlla.6295

Hey where did Scarlet go?

That’s the question I’ve been asking, but most seem to think she’s hiding inside the giant drill.

I tend to believe she’s not in LA, at all. Based on the fact that Taimi, who seems to know more about Scarlet than she should, is stating that she’s not in LA. Plus the fact that in all previous encounters with Scarlet, she could barely keep her mouth shut for 5 minutes without taunting us. Now, she doesn’t say a word during the whole 45 minutes we are in LA each hour.

But while I believe Scarlet is not in LA, I have absolutely no idea where she would be, then.

We got to see her in LA…on the drill, in the cutscene that plays when you log in, i’m willing to bet she is legitimately on the drill right now, with her rifle (something we hadn’t seen her even use since Queens Jubilee), she’s in LA, and she means kittening business.

You want to use it? I guess you should go to currently running CDI topic about Ranger then, because now it’s a laughable “weapon” mostly used as utility for RNG stealth or knockback.

The stealth is hardly RNG, and it’s totally a useable weapon, you’ve just gotta know how to use it.

I think they are trying to green line removing the pet in lieu of that aspect idea.
Basically test the waters with the stow and a few patches later…pets gone. Though that would be trading time spent on reworking the AI on pet to time redesigning most of the trait lines, the signets, the shouts and so on. Kind of scary that that might just be less work.

It sounds more like they want to rework the mechanic so you dance in and out of having the aspect AND having the pet out to have max effectiveness, which I approve of, however you should be able to trait into specializing into either one so you could play primarily one way or the other instead of following in the footsteps of the ele where it’s “use them all equally or suck”.

I like the idea of the ranger gaining the “Aspect” of their pet, however i do think it should be an actual part of the ranger, not a sort of “Choose the pet or choose the aspect” sort of feature.

Essentially, the mechanic should be changed so instead of cycling through 2 pets, the F4 instead “Stows” our pet, giving us their aspect and then hitting kittenain could resummong the pet, removing the access and allowing us to fight alongside them again.

Preferably i’d LOVE to see us have our pet skills (such as shouts, signets, weapon skills that give the pet a boost like Hunter’s Shot, Winter’s Bite, Pounce etc.) have an altered effect if we were using our pets aspect instead of the pet themselves. Also, if while the pet was stowed our F2 became a sort of “Become the Beast” skill which amplified the effect and maybe added another one in addition that’d be AMAZING, and i’d be absolutely in love with ranger (and i love my pets to begin with).

EX: Bird Aspect: Movement Speed increased, Enhanced Aspect= Movement Speed further enhanced and attacks now have a 50% chance to blind with an ICD for a time limit, maybe play a spirity version of the pet around you when you activate this plus a sound effect.

No good ranger uses LB in roaming wvw or Spvp, in PvE they are pathetic as well

There have been tons of threads on how to properly use a LB against other players. Just because you’re pathetic with it, don’t lump all of the rest of us in.

This is what I’m scared of, people who have no idea how to use the skills we’ve already been given yelling for changes to skills that are really well balanced. If they want to buff anything on the LB, I’m fine with that, but I hope they don’t listen to people who play ele and think that 3 and 4 are bad skills.

This, I’ve used longbow in sPvP, PvE, WvW you name it for a LONG time because it has been, and still is, my favorite weapon rangers have access to, it has so much utility it’s ridiculous.

The 3 gives you the ability to juke, open up distance, set up burst etc, 5 gets you a nice area to kite the enemy through while uping your damage.

I’d go on with it but this is not the time, nor place for Longbow 101.

"Guard" Ranger shout

Thanks for that. It helps all of us to understand that our opinions are “invalid”

Glad I could help! Maybe next time, you can come up with a better argument than “Its clunky!”, becuase by that logic, every skill in the game with a cast time is "clunky’

Also, bad opinions, and bad arguments are two totally different things. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how good or bad. But, if your argument sucks, I am going to say something!

lol, yes, like the argument that the pet having stealth and protection is so powerful that it warrants a nerf to get rid of the cast time? Will we suddenly become OP if it’s an instant? Will that 1 less second of casting catapult the regen-tank to god-like status? Will the pet become too OP? Will all the non-existent people who kill the pet first rage quit forever because it has 1 second less to wait for protection and stealth?

There needs to be a real, clear consequence to buffing it with no counter, not just some vague claim that it’s “already good”.

The problem you need to look at is, what if all skills were suddenly instant?

(example)Hey, I want Heal as One to be instant cast. Don’t mind that I can stack that healing to over 10,000 using several methods. Its not like giving you a telegraph that I’m about to use a massive heal skill means anything. Its not going to suddenly make me more powerful (despite the extremely high healing I get for no risk at all).

This argument is so bad I think it’s giving the entire forum community cancer…

We are asking for a skill, which gives stealth and protection TO A SINGLE, NON PLAYER CHARACTER, to be instant instead of a 1s cast time, and you think that it’d be the same as making a HEALING SKILL have no cast time? Seriously? Do you not realize how poor of a comparison that is?

Whelp, Fear Me! Is an instant cast, therefore Kill Shot should be too, is essentially the logic you’re using.

Guard is a SHOUT shouts are trademarked to “have no cast time” Therefore guard is an anomaly, Guard is also THE lowest CD, and THE worst shout in the game since the only thing it brings only benefits the pet, and they are two things that are very lack luster.

The stated Ranger Design Philosophy scares me to death.

Ranger Design Philosophy: Please keep this in mind when posting feedback.
The Ranger is a resilient profession that excels at skirmishing by drawing from nature to support themselves as well as their allies. Alongside their pet, they have some of the best single target and sustained damage that will whittle their opponents down.

I noticed they worded it very carefully to avoid mentioning bows and ranged.

Also, they seem to still be trying to find quick fixes to ranger problems, and not too fond of making core changes.

I have a bad feeling we won’t come out of this any better than before.

There’s nothing wrong with the ranger at it’s core, and they’re already fixing our pets responsiveness, what we need are utilities that don’t absolutely suck without 30pts in them, and more build diversity instead of forcing us 30 into WS, if we’re supposed to be resilient give us some kittening utilities that make us resilient instead of having to rely on 30 in WS.

Also, they didn’t change their view on ranger, ranger has never been about burst (sure we have some builds that CAN be) but the ranger in GW2, just like in GW1, was all about constantly plucking away at your health and that’s A LOT harder to deal with than burst, especially in a game like this one where you can dodge and mitigate an entire burst combo to nothing.

They took the “unparalleled archers” thing out of there because people kept grasping at straws for why their bow should deal more damage than a warriors great sword, and why no one should be able to beat us in 1v1 ranged duels ever. Rangers aren’t purely ranged, and it’s about time they kill that stupid though process. Either way the way this, and almost every other balanced game, works is Melee does more damage than ranged, but ranged is safer and has 100% (or nearly 100%) uptime.

Would you take this trait?

in Ranger

Posted by: Durzlla.6295

Durzlla.6295

If there was a BM trait that would cause your pet to cast an AoE fear (similar to the wolf F2) whenever you used “Search and Rescue” to start reviving an ally, would you take it?

If you would, how many points in BM would you be willing to invest for this? (10, 20, or 30)

*This is primarily from a PvP perspective

**Also, this would only trigger if/when the pet actually started reviving an ally.

If that’s ALL it did? No, if it also buffed up other shouts? Absolutely, EX: All Shouts have an added effect. Protect Me! Could be prot + retal on you and your pet, Sick’Em could give AoE fury and might, Guard could give Aegis to all allies in the radius, maybe slap and ICD on that one per ally shrugs

I like it, except for the aegis on guard. Aegis on a 12s CD would be pretty powerful.

that’s why i said to put an ICD on it, so Guard could only apply Aegis to a unique ally once every, lets say 30s? So in WvW it’d be more useful than in 5man stuff because every time you cast it it could apply on 5 people who aren’t under the effects of the ICD yet, make sense? Kinda like how spirits work, the spirit will apply the buff to players who aren’t under the ICD of the buffs effect.

IE: If you can’t proc the Aegis, the skill will try to apply the Aegis to someone who can.
