Actually, the CD doesn’t display properly with the trait, it’s actually 144s or so (still god awful).

They need to make it so S&R has the pet rez FASTER than an actual player to make it useful, not kittening slower, especialy if they want to justify how they nerfed it into the kittening ground, i mean seriously if my pet rezzed 20% faster than the average player (same as i do due to speccing for it) i would have NO issue with this skill.

Another thing i’d like would be if it was a ground target like “Guard” it boosts the rezzing speed of all allies in that range and the pet will run around and rez downed allies until he’s killed, i’d say make the pet bigger and glowy with blue and black (just copy paste RaO effects on all allies in the range for simplicities sake) so that there’s counter play to it.

Spirit needs buff

Come try out the elementalist.

To have spirits up almost all the time, even after someone kills them was over the top.

Elementalist do not have spirits.

And you are wrong. If a enemy kills spirits after they are up, they will be defenseless for 50 seconds. Pity that an elementalist did not know this weakness.

No Elementalists have elementals (with super fun AI built in, just like your pests), are generally not targeted like thieves pests or rangers pests because they don’t do as much (Wish my elementals gave me buffs, or even had activate able abilities.) And when they die … they then start their cooldown.

Yes I did know the rangers weakness is to take out its spirits and the time without said spirit, but good luck finding one who just summoned them. Now you can enjoy a 25 second cool down instead, and some counter play perhaps. I used to play spirits when it was not the “in” thing, then I played traps, again before they were super popular, still my current ranger build

Elite eles DO give buffs, fire gives AoE Might (i think 3 stacks) from his little dive bomb AoE blast, Earth apply AoE prot with his stomp and Cleaving Weakness on enemies with his FALCON…PUNCH! The ice one brings an ice field (exact copy of the staff ice field, except with a shorter CD) and has an AoE heal, and supposedly condi removal (have never noticed this one so im not counting this), and air has aoe swiftness and some nasty burst.

I love my Conjurer of cheap tricks ele lol.

But yeah, spirits aren’t nearly as bad off as most people seem to think they are, they’re just trying to play them how they used to… AKA doing it wrong.

I feel like the HP of summons in this game is way too low to have lengthy resummon cooldowns of any kind. So I don’t know if this was the right change.

25 isn’t lengthy, and the reason they have that is because summon builds tend to be REALLY tanky by default, but still have damage due to the summons. If the summons could be brought up super easily (phantasm mesmers say “Hi”) then it sort of forces your hand to try to cut off the head as quickly as possible because taking out their minions is simply too difficult.

In the morning I killed every single assassin in the level. Including one behind a secret wall. Including every single one on those platforms with teleporters. Got no achievement. Thought that I must have been missing some assassin and ignored it. However right afterwards I tried doing the Tiptoe achievement and it did not work. Seeing how a lot of the achievements are bugged in general, I would like to know whether I missed one or whether this one is one of those bugged achievements.

Did you go in EVERY secret area in the zone? Have you played that fancy song to the ninja in the acid spring? Did you kill the ninja on the very top of the hill near the beginning (he’s in purple and me and my friends didn’t notice him for a while and still can’t get up to him), are there any on the secret short cut? Do you have the closed fist power up to break a few special walls?

The list goes on, i doubt you killed every one.

Oh no, the horrors, you can buy an infinite continue coin! Oh no!! It’s not like you can’t clear world 1 and end up with ~50 continue coins (that’s 250 lives mind you)….. And idk why everyone’s saying W2 Z2 is hard, it’s really not that bad, hardest one so far has been W2 Z1 and that was just before I learned the patterns, after I got that down its ridiculously easy.

I understand your reaction, but all the horses left the barn. There is nothing left, all the possible rangers builds have been systematically nerfed.

All that is left for the class are a bunch of mismatched traits, utilities and weapons skills. Good luck finding anything that is remotely effective in that mess.

Survival builds, trap builds (100% untouched by nerfs), BM bunker, Spirit (play it differently than you used to), long range harass, Melee ranger etc all work and are good in tPvP, just because you can’t come up with your own build that works and everyone else is refusing to share theirs doesn’t mean that ranger suddenly is useless.

So why do you think Anet stated that NOW spirits can be CC’d if they could have been earlier?

They weren’t being KD, Launched or KB, they were still being interrupted by those 3 effects but they were not taken out of the scene for as long as those effects (all very powerful CCs) should have, IE Nature Spirit is casting, you Launch it with say, Personal Battering Ram, the spirit stops his cast and returns to following ranger instead of being sent skipping across the ground and laying there for 2 or 3 seconds.

Stuns and Dazes though did keep the full effect IE a 2s stun took that spirit out of the fight for 2 seconds, they even stated it was a bug fix, which i figured would happen anyway.

In PvP it is a huge nerf. So i don’t know what are you talking about.

No it’s not, it’s only a nerf if all you did was maintain your spirits 100%, if you summon them as you need them (like I do because I find constantly summoning the stupid things annoying) its a buff, a pretty hefty one too I might add.

Obviously it is a nerf. If my spirits managed to live till their 60sec death I could recast them and have 100% uptime. And now I even can’t precast them, cause I’m losing precious seconds. So you will be without spirits for 25 secs ANYWAY. And that’s it. The earlier they die the less this nerf is obvious ( it can even turn into a buff ) but ONLY if your spirits die early in a mess. If they live longer then 35 secs that is a nerf, whether you accept it or not.

And even more – you forget that spirits can now be CC’d. That means that your elite spirit can be interrupted right before ressing you or your teammate going into full 30sec CD. Great news and not a nerf, ofcourse!

They could ALWAYS be CCed, Knock downs, knock backs, launches still interrupted the spirit they just didn’t move, and i know for a fact dazes and stuns worked on them as well seeing as how everytime i fought a spirit ranger i’d always interrupt the elite spirit because i’m not an oblivious idiot who only knows how to do DMGZ! like 95% of players seem to.

Wrong ranger spirits now act like every other pet summoning skill and goes on cd when the summon dies

Great! So our spirits will now follow us around without us needing to trait for it, and they’ll actively attack/defend on their own instead of just give a buff?

They’ve essentially turned ranger spirits into warrior banners with all the disadvantages of guardian spirit weapons, plus the disadvantage of having to devote trait points to get them to be mobile like guardian spirits.

You’ve clearly never played a spirit weapons build…

Spirits are a combination of banners, minions, and turrets really.

PS: the more I check this forum the more I realize the ranger community can’t adapt at all…. Oh the irony…

So, this was a buff, you can now bring spirits along without spending a single point in NM and not be boned by their kittenty survivability, I’m liking this “nerf” I see a lot if possibilities appearing because of this…

No way a nerf to stability unless we have some kind of CC immunity or diminshing returns. I could care less if they added something more visual most people still would just spam there cc and watch it fail.

You could totally nerf stability and make it still fill its role, EX: Stability prevents the next 3 CCs from taking effect for X seconds.

I like the change, it’s less of a passive rip off of necromancer and more of a summon a spirit as you need it sort of play style now, which worked VERY well before that meta caught on. It also rewards killing the spirits quickly instead if having that chance where the spirit ranger can just summon it back immediately, and also lessens the punishment to the ranger for having all his spirits killed when summoned.

I’ll probably try out spirits again now that it’s not mind numbingly stupid, but I may still stick with my Survival(utility type) build instead, it all depends.

Can anyone confirm if they still only last 60s? If so I’m very disappointed in this change, although I -can- go back to playing spirit ranger how I used to (summon the spirits as needed don’t leave them all up) which was a tad more fun…

On the bright side! If we spawn out spirits and they get instapwned by a heavy AoE build we aren’t forced into a 60s CD….

I’m not as disappointed with the change to spirits as I am about the lack of balance changes as a whole…

Tbh, what I would REALLY like to see is that 1) ICD increased 2) Effects are 100% (no trait needed) 3) Effects are stronger than currently 4) you get some aura thing while able to proc IE sun spirit is a redish orange glow, stone is a sandy brown etc 5) if you miss with your attack, the effect is wasted. 6) make natures vengeance reset your ICD.

Would allow for some skilled counter play and would make spirits very nice for their team support role without making their fairly minor passive effects terrible with the increased ICD.

Still sucks that the forage skills have their own CDs, 120 sec on skull fear is not cool.

I think they patched that. Can someone confirm?

I had no issue popping 2 Elixir of Heroes back to back(my god did the stars align on that one!!) so I’d have to assume they did.

Just wondering what fellow rangers opinions are the current meta state spirit ranger? In my honest opinion i dont know how this will avoid the nerf hammer and i cant even make a case of why they shouldnt when im asked lol. Do you think nerfing spirit rangers is justified if so why or why not? no class ever wants to be nerfed and i play spirit ranger in a couple of my teams so i have def enjoyed our rise but honestly when i think about it from another persons perspective it does need to be toned down. so leave comments with ur ideas of how A-net could balance this class either one way or the other.

No i don’t, there’s several ways to counter a spirit ranger 1) keep distance 2) AoE (specifically condis) 3) interrupts 4) CC of anyform (including cripples and freezes) 5) having sustain that doesn’t suck.

As a guard/thief, I hope they do not nerf spirit rangers in any way. This is the easiest ranger spec to fight against. Unfortunately most people can’t figure out the right moves.

As a Survival Ranger (not wilderness Survival) i hope for the same thing, spirit rangers are just easy picking, immob + some aoe, keep some distance, and GG. Not to mention i’ve noticed that immobs, cripples, rezzes, KDs condi removal and healing are better support than silly spirits (at least in sPvP).

But yeah, if spirits get nerfed in anyway i’m going to be kitten ED, they say they want spirits to be viable, they finally make them viable and all of a sudden they’re going to nerf them? The kitten? the ICD is already ridiculous if you ask me, and god knows it’s not going to be increased to anything less than 15.

We’re so tight for traits already because of our kitten poor Utility+Trait combo design.

This is a great idea but it just adds to the already overwhelming trait dependence we are plagued with.

Yeah this needs to end lol, everytime i play another prof i always look through all their trait lines and try to figure out how i’m going to buff a utility type as much as possible and use only that utility type… you know… like we need to…

That and i always hit F1 when i engage a fight lol…

Durzlla, seriously, how did you remember that? That’s incredible if you just rattled that off the top of your head.

The barrage one had the 3 rangers killing skrit then the pets ran up and finished them off.

The Serpents Strike video also showed off throwing the dagger.

The hawks was pretty straightforward against the Ogre.

Whirling Defense was showcasing the reflect on it against the grawl.

Watched those wayyyyy too many times during development. Man I used to be so excited to play this class…..

This right here is exactly why i remember those lol. It’s the same reason that Engineers don’t have the skill video for their old shield skill “Absorption” where it absorbed the next projectile thrown at them and they could throw it back i believe it was like 2 or 3 times.

So, the pigs are really strong in PvP now due to one major “nerf” to the pig, they changed the range from their charge from a 600 range, to a 300 range, now you guys are probably like “wtf hows this good?”

Well as any pig user knows, that thing takes a while to wind up and then at 600 (where the pet would always try to use it) they always missed by a simple side step. However now they can only use it at 300 where they’re pretty much ontop of the enemy anyway making their AoE 3s KD actually hit!

Was PvPing quite a bit today with my pig (more to dust off good ole Sir Oinks a Lot) and was quite pleased! Granted, Forage is still clunky as ever, but it didn’t seem like the enemies could pick up the item, i’m not sure on this though, a few ran over to it and stood there awkwardly for a few seconds but didn’t pick it up, so i assumed they were trying, haven’t tested it though.

The 60s CD would be fine IF we still had a way to Rez the pet without the swap, the 60s swap CD was balanced around that being an instant way to Rez our pet vs 3s of being vulnerable while rezzing them.

They need to either give us another way to get our pet back up, or should drop the CD to 30-40s instead.

I’m actually facepalming because you guys still expect your pets to remain alive during world bosses. I expect it to die, and I won’t even bother switching it out because it’s just that useless IMO. Learn to play without it for those fights, like I have.

I’d prefer a pet ‘level’ system, tyvm, with the pet gaining exp as long as he’s in battle with you. The pet has a level cap of 5, each equal to about 2 character levels. As the pet levels up, it gains its own series of ‘traits’ you can turn on, more skills, and more AI for your to have control over. For example, a jaguar could get a trait that allows it to share its stealth with the Ranger, a skill that knocks down an enemy before starting to bite at it 3-4 times which causes bleeding and large damage with each hit, and will give you control over which skill it will use with the F2.

I want to be able to use an Offensive bear =(, i don’t like “tank” pets, so stupid and worthless in PvP…

When i remember correctly there were Videos once .
i think there were
1. Serpent strike
2. Barrage
3. whirling defense
4. Hunters call
all skills that made it to game like they were in the vids

There was also one where the ranger shot multiple arrows and it seemed to be the auto-attack.

Not auto attack, this was back when GW2 was made where Auto = damage, other skills = utility, Volley, much like Gw1, has a TINY CD, it was like, what? 2-4s in alpha? Was also a 100% projectile finisher.

The reason for it was because they were significantly different than the ranger now, with the exception of serpents strike.

Barrage showed a Moa and a Bear who were using offensive skills (bear used Maul, no longer in game, and Moa used the vuln stacking thing back when it was offensive), not to mention barrage didn’t cripple then, just did raw damage.

Volley didn’t used to apply poison but every projectile it shot was a 100% finisher, and bonfire was a MUCH larger AoE.

Hunters call showed off the original sword combo where Kick (second skill) was a Knock Back instead of a cripple.

Whirling Defense (granted it wasn’t shown) blocked everything, reflected projectiles, and only dealt damage when it successfully reflected something (IE it worked similar to Gw1 where Melee only got hurt when a spell was reflected).

I suppose Serpent Strikes vid showed Hornet Sting back when it was a cripple + LR evade backwards but didn’t have Monarchs Leap, but no one woulda caught that since the changes were minor and you don’t see the skill bar.

What healing skill do you use?

I use Healing Spring for most of my sPvP points because I’m tanky and gonna be on point anyway, and because my builds tend to be support oriented so AoE condi removal and regen is just amazing.

However if I ever use a more selfish build I take that amazingly awesome Heal as One, because TU just kinda bums me out that it’s not as awesome as in GW1 xD.

It will not happen.
Simply because they care about pve economy more than they care about any aspect of pvp. And why would they even want to make pve people play pvp? They need pve playerbase to sit there and spend cash on gems – not sit in pvp, because its not profitable.

Uh…. They said a few times they want to give PvE rewards in PvP to get more people playing PvP (because it would), and if more people were playing PvP than PvE they’d make MORE money because they couldn’t convert gold into gems. Because all the PvP players are goldless

No it doesn’t, Fire Trap did for a day or two, but then a patch removed it again

It’s gotta be a bug with fire trap NOT the horn itself, because just a few minutes ago I comboed in my ele friends lava font with it.

For every time that happens, there’s another half dozen where the ghost house saves people and they run off giggling into the night. Lets face it, lots and lots of people lose the target and it might as well no longer exist in their minds.

Like yea, it’s not going to save anyone if the AE dump is just coming anyways, but what is outside of a long rez CD?

Uh… A ghost house = “Drop all AoE there!!” For half decent players, just scorch all the poor kittens all at once, because face it, the thief will either be trying to save themselves or their friend from dying/getting downed.

Don’t base the “Ghost House is an amazing downed saver!” Argument over idiots who don’t realize that stealth =/= can’t be harmed.

Actually Stun Wars can beat shatter mesmers so it’s more like;
Spirit Ranger > Shatter <> Stun Warrior > Spirit Ranger

Spirit rangers can still beat stun warriors though when they do it right (requires A LOT of kiting).

In my guild, you died, you run back. There is no rezzing because my guild focuses on wiping large zergs and doesn’t have the time to rez the fallen.

My rank on my Ranger in WvW is 125 which isn’t that high. My Guardian I leveled in late May is already rank 55 and I hardly play it. The Guardian ranks 3 times faster than a Ranger in WvW because of all the tagging and survivability the profession has.

Every zerg I’ve run with has had the general rule of spike rez downed, but double downs run back or wait for rally at waypoint.

Either way, a Thief and their ghost house is going to do that job better. Preventing the death spike is a pretty big deal in both large and small scale.

You know what that house does? Jack kitten against most half decent players, staff ele and necro just laugh and throw their kitten down anyway, same goes with trap rangers, and burst warriors (don’t need a target) and guardians, if I had a dollar for every thief I’ve slaughtered mercilessly while they tried to shadow home themselves, and/or others to safety, I’d be a rich rich man.

We need more interplay between “Combo Fields”
The Pets also need to create more of them. So do Spirits…

Our Horn blast finisher needs to work on Fire fields again.

  • It worked initially when they changed it to a Blast finisher, but then somehow got patched right back out even though it DOES work on Ice field/trap.
  • I don’t know if it was supposed to work with Poison fields, …but it should just for consistency.

We also need the shields generated by combos to not just last longer, but utilize the Buff-Duration & Condition-Duration stat modifier in their time calculation.

We need the BONUS damage dealt by combos to be modified by the condition stat so that people finally have a reason to use Carrion set in PvE.

We need the Healing stat to not just increase our Spring, but also healing it provide when sloshing through it with Combo & Blast finishers…. (triple it for lunges esp.)

We need our gear stats in general, to be shared with the pet so that it also gains these increases with the Combo system.

What are you rambling about? The horn DOES work as a blast in ALL fields, fire gives AoE 3stacks of like 20s Might, Poison gives AoE weakness, and the healing stat DOES buff our finishers in a water field.

i think normal pets will never work properly. we need something else. example invulnerable pets whats not dealing or receiving damage, just buff us or the party passively and do some effect for f2

That may just be a bad example, because there are thieves out there (particularly jumper I think, maybe) who dedicate their entire build at times to solo contesting and holding far point all game (d/p s/d build), and are fairly good at forcing the teamfight off of mid and back to their home node in order to deal with the thief.

But my friend is a point holding thief and he’s very good at holding it….

I wish more people would have this kind of confidence in the Ranger..

Have you never read any of my posts? I’m the guy whose always trying to push some off the wall “kitten the meta!” Build… Keep in mind, I think ranger only needs a tiny few tweaks to be in a good spot in sPvP (mostly F2 needs to go off WHEN I PRESS IT, not when the pet kittening feels like it), and our utilities need some love, in PvE we aren’t bad, but no one is, and in WvW were just second rate, which doesn’t mean we can’t do anything but that everyone can do it better.

I don’t mean to be harsh, so sorry if I come off as that.

Lol I was being kind of sarcastic; ayden’s a big boy, I’m sure he can handle it. Those are things we can all learn from, really, Kasama. Thanks for all the wisdom. Honestly, if you filmed me, I’m sure I would make the same mistakes.

You’re not the first to think I’m harsh, when it comes to writing. So I wasn’t sure that you were being sarcastic =)

Well no one is perfect, I make mistakes when playing as well. But when you put up a video, and suggests someone to see it, you should be sure that what you show, is your best play possible.

But mostly, I just don’t understand why anyone would run into the middle of a zerg, as a Ranger. It seems like you have missed the point of the professions then. Kinda like taking a Thief, and using him as point defender in sPvP. It wouldn’t really work. You have to play to the professions strengths, or ells you’re going to have a tough time, and miss the advantage of the profession.

Also, current WvW meta favors zerg balls with Guardians/Warriors/Necros/Ele. Hopefully, that will change with the borderland updates in 2 weeks.

Maybe, but note that there is a difference between what the meta says and what really is. I don’t see enough experimentation in the field to truly believe rangers are as bad as l33t players think.

Yeah, we’re the worst in WvW (Zerg wars not solo) but were not USELESS, a lot of people blow it out of proportion, if our pet were fixed in WvW to not blow up instantly than we’d probably be in a happy medium which is fine because we make up for that in how good we are at roaming.

We are however REALLY good at defense because we can use traps, and we can command our pets while we’re on a siege machine, you know how much fun it is to immob people with a drake hound as a ballista bolt is hurtling towards their face? It’s amazing.

Ranger doesnt do what this class does…
No kidding. And guardians are slow at capping camps/killing yaks… scouting.
Necros have low mobility while we have great mobility and do they have a blast finisher?

2 sides to every coin really. Yes I understand these classes do some things better in areas of zerg lemming. There is nothing stopping us from playing those classes for that role.

If you want to homogenize the game more so every class is equal in all roles bleh, wait until you see the forums then.

Yes this class has some issues that will/can be worked on to improve it. The comparisons to other classes is getting old unless you show both sides.

Look, if ranger were THE BEST scout/soloer I’d be ok with us being THE WORST Zerg prof, but we aren’t, that role goes to the thief, they are THE BEST at mobility and have easy stealth making solo capping and scouting their role of choice. And know what? They’re still better than we are in a Zerg because of how easily they can Zerg surf with CnD and other stealths.

We are not asking to be THE SAME as every other prof we are asking to be BALANCED in large scale fights because we flat out aren’t.

I’ve played so many pet professions microing the pet is just second nature lol, it amazes me how well my pet -can- do in the zergs, but the second some kitten hole (such as myself) decides “that wolf is really kittening annoying!” And kills it instead of going for bags… Yeah there goes the pet…

I have noticed one thing about WvW though, people have never killed any of my pets faster than my flamingo, oh poor Senior Fabuloso… You just wanted to screech in their ears and give 3s AoE daze…. Seriously, he only gets off 2 screeches like EVER before they wise up and nuke him.

Last night me and 4 other rangers (stars aligned and we found one another lol) and we were going around wrecking anything and everything we found, minus the enemy Zerg, but that’s expected. It was interesting, was surprised to actually see another ranger in WvW let alone 4…

Are you sure healing power doesn’t affect rez speed? Without it, I rez a lot slower. Very informational post btw, thanks durz.

Everything I’ve done (in the mists granted, never had gear for it in PvE until now) showed there was no change.

EDIT: Oh, I wanted to add that both Warbanner AND Spirit DO NOT give any benefits of rezzing the player that would be applied if you did it yourself because for w/e reason it’s coded so that something else casts the spell to Rez, not you.

All other skills IE sig of mercy, glyph of renewal etc, will all give the benefit of rezzing someone.

You guys are more well versed in other professions than me. Does any other profession compare to things like “healer’s celerity” or “compassion training + search and rescue + stability training + bear”? Or zephyr’s speed rez? Not to mention the spirit.

Compassion training (and thus healing power in general) do not affect Rez speeds.

But yes, most profs are pretty good at it, but in different ways, guardians and mesmers have slower, but more guaranteed rezes, thieves prevent stomps and are good at rezzing unfocused targets, warrior has fast sturdy rezes (like the ranger) and can have THE BEST rezes in the game I believe due to mercy rune effects stacking(minus the toughness), however rangers have the fastest rezes, and can maneuver through the battle faster due to Healers Clarity, not to mention you help your allies get back into the fight, we’re also the only prof that can spike Rez someone with our easy access quickness + pet rezzing with quickness.

Ranger doesn’t have the biggest or most guaranteed rezes, but they can get A LOT of people up really really fast, and both trapper, and BM builds can become really good rezzers really quickly with just a messily 10 point investment into WS (which most do anyway), and mercy runes whereas warriors need to dump 25 in tactics to be in a good spot, and then mesmers/guardians have a long CD on how often they can become useful rezzers (AMAZING in small fights but becomes less, and less, and less useful as the size increases).

EDIT: completely blanked on my ele rezer, he may be -the- best option for what he does when he rezes, when he picks someone up (assuming he’s an aura buffer build which he should be) both him, the ally, and all nearby allies get an aura based on his Attunement. IE: Rez in air = AoE static aura. However eles are REALLY squishy when they stop moving (like in rezzing) so they’re HIGHLY vulnerable to actual attacks, so to counter an ele rezzer is to blow their face off while they try to devastate the flow of battle lol.

Has anyone tried playing a resurrection role in a zerg? Why or why not?

That’s usually what happens, no time to rez. But sometimes, say, during a long, drawn out garrison fight, being able to “spike rez” is super helpful. And there’s not much time to run back or else you lose Lord’s room. Right? Or no?

I -am- that battle medic lol, such a powerful asset to a Zerg, I end up with literal perma swiftness and just run through the area and Rez, because with 3.5k armor (not using buffs at all) while rezzing allows you to shrug off most things, that and rezzing people up to 50% health also greatly increases their chance of survival.

Leave no man behind! Until it turns out poorly and I need to flee…. But that’s an entirerly different story!
