Kill the phantasms if its a PU phantasm mesmer, walk away if its a condi PU mesmer, if its a PU shatter mesmer you can probably kill it. They easy way to balance PU would be it can’t repeat the same boon back to back.

But yes, engie is kittened and has been since around launch. Most were just too dumb to realize how strong their condi burst was.

Its sad that we’ve had to come up with a new name to describe the exact same thing as the previous one so that when you get called a zerg you don’t feel as bad.

If a zerg is coordinated and performing well in open field, its ok if you’re a zerg. However most zergs aren’t like this, they are full of mindless zerglings that will chase and chase and allow themselves to get picked apart. Last time I heard people didn’t call RG trashcan zerglings

Zergs have:
Advantage of numbers
Advantage of downed state
Advantage of AOE cap
Advantage of readily available swiftness
Advantage of small maps
Advantage of zerg rezzing
Advantage of rezzing stomped players
AOE damage is very close to single target damage

Its insanely poor design when you give this many advantages to the larger group.

Tactical Spacing in the real world: When in maneuvers attempt to stay 10 feet away from the person next to you. That way if a grenade lands either on you or between you and the person next to you only one will die or both will be wounded.

Tactical Spacing in GW2: Stack as close to everyone so that the AOE damage will bounce around within the group mitigating damage.

I don’t want to sound like I’m glorifying any class here but I feel like this has to be mentioned. Thieves, backstab thieves specifically, are almost no threat outside of stealth. Factor in CC’s, revealed and general running around and on average you spend more time out of stealth. Crazy right? If stealth based thieves were revealed so much, they’d be such a laughing stock. In fact, I would think backstab, arguably the most notorious skill in the game, would need a buff just to compensate for the decrease in the amount of times available to use it, only pouring more oil into the fire. As it is now I personally think it’s fine. And that’s the necromancer me talking, although to be fair, it’s funny how a necromancer can defeat a thief purely being on the defense the entire fight. That and they are thieves, who said they had to play fair?

Actually I use valk armor with zerk weapons zerk trinkets and beryl orbs. That is not full glass. I hate glasscannons as much as the next person. Not to mention in WvW I go 30 in Shadow Arts, our toughness tree. Thieves just don’t have the health to compensate.

I play a damage/tank guard, I know about having no health but I don’t have the escapability/blind spam/stealth/condi clearing/healing that you do. If it gets rough, stealth house shadow step and you’re gone. The problem is if the current state of thief had less stealth it wouldn’t work hardly at all, so to fix stealth mechanics the mesmer/thief would have to be redesigned from the ground up.

I remember back in the day when we were busting zergs we had two guards running JI+hammer with SYG and WoR. The reflect was like a riot shield dropping it right in front of their ranged or using it to cordon off an area to get stomps or revives. But in sub 5 its not really that great.

2 useless trait lines, trait lines without any clear direction to them, weapons being jacked up on all but 2, low hp, lack luster class mechanic, constant pigeon holing.

Just because they can focus shield/JI burst into someone thats not paying attention, and hang with the hammer warriors on the hammer train when they run full PVT doesn’t mean they don’t have a lot of kitten wrong with them.

Heh, it’s already over, Guardians lost.
Ranger has been chosen as that first to be looked at and discussed, likely followed by the ele.
There will probably be more voting in the future.

Yea, I went back to look at the forums and found it. A lot of Ranger’s problems exist not within the class itself, but the rest of the game. This game has a LOT of gap closers and ranger don’t have many devices to kite that well. LB has 1 knockback on a decently long timer, SB has an evade on a decently long timer. Their melee weapons are pretty kitten good with lots of evade/leaps built into them that works well with their water field.

I basically wrote a thesis on how Guard weapons seriously need improvements to what they do as well as CD issues…but these issues have been in the game since launch and instead of fixing them we get things like 6.5 months of buffs/reworks/improvements to 1 class that hardly needed some slight tweaking. Its…an interesting production schedule they have there

Healing signet:

Passive: heals 200hp/sec
Active: heals 400hp/sec for 15 seconds.

Cooldown: 20 second

Great, so the Warrior then traits for reduced signet cooldowns and activates the signet at every opportunity because he has a 2 second window where he isn’t recieving double the health regen of the passive (effectively, he loses 1.5 seconds of the active effect). Bad idea.

The passive, 200hp/sec is worthless.

From beta to buff, Healing signet was always 200hp/sec. No one carried Healing signet except 5 signet leveling warriors, why? Because it sucked, it does not have the sustain to heal them.

People are complaining that healing signet is uninterruptable. Now here is a healing signet version that makes healing signet interruptable.

What do you want? Do you want to delete healing signet and make warriors a free kill?

No, I want a version where the sustain isn’t higher than other skills that actually take effort to maintain the healing on (mainly Signet of Ether and Blood Fiend, being the two most comparable and both, even post 8% HS nerf, still heal for less) while at the same time having an active that is worth using.

Healing Signet could actually take a 33% nerf in its current passive and it would still be higher healing than Blood Fiend, but unlike the Fiend takes absolutely no effort at all to get that healing. Yeah, the Blood Fiend could probably use a buff, but the point remains the same.

At the same time, it needs an active that is worth using. The passive doesn’t need as much of a nerf if the active were ever going to get used, but as it is right now, that’s not going to happen. The active just doesn’t compare with the passive, so there is really no tradeoff. This is a problem with a number of signets in the game: either the active is really good, so the passive doesn’t matter, or the passive far outstrips the active.

What you want:

  • You want to nerf healing signet passive, on a class with very few spammable active defense and very telegraphable CC, to equal to other classes, with much higher spammable active defense and mostly unnoticable CC.
  • You want a active worth using which is basically my healing signet version.

Their CC isn’t that telegraphed and the CC that is telegraphed can be used very often.
Shield stance is a low cd, endure pain is a low cooldown for what it is, then theres….ya know what kitten it. If you can’t see the ridiculous position warriors are in right now after 6.5 months of nothing but buffs/reworks/improvements your arguments are invalid.

If you increase the difficulty or boss mechanics of the dungeons the casuals will not touch it. Look at Marionette/tequatl/wurm, possible to be beaten, but the casual/carebear community could not handle it and they gave up.

The mentality of the easy goer casual or pve carebear is this. " If I want something and the content is too hard, I will just go and champ train until I farmed enough gold to buy it off the TP".

I truly do not think you understand the meaning of casual. I suggest you research that word a bit more before adding into any statement you make.

Casual simply means a player whose time investment is not substantial. It is no indication of skill level by any means.

Also, there is not a single difficult encounter(in terms of mechanics) in this game including Marionette, Teq or the Wurm. All of those fights at best have raid mechanics that would be considered entry level in most other games.

What we currently have in GW2 is VERY VERY VERY poor content design. The only difficulty in any of the above mentioned encounters is getting 60-100 people who have never met to try and work together. That by definition is a human resource management sim – not difficult content.

We will use Wow for example – love them or hate them they at least got it right in terms of designing content for large groups of pug players.

The only way Anet could ever design challenging content in terms of mechanics that would be enjoyable to play is if they started instancing them and making them guild only. But, the player base apparently is against that so we are stuck with the half baked attempts at content we have now.

It’s my opinion Anet tries to hard to sway from the norm and ends up doing more harm then good.

Being a casual has ZERO to do with time investment. There are casual facebook gamers that spend 50-60 hours a week playing facebook games out there. There are also casual gamers here that spend the same amount of time doing next to nothing in game. They aren’t pushing themselves or game mechanics, they are just being casual.

Also casuals tend to have a mentality of ‘Its just a game bro’ and don’t min-max. Which doesn’t really work with the time investment they usually put into a game. They are in it for the fun and if their ‘game-style’ happens to waste your time then so be it.

Me personally I feel like a complete kitten when I screw up in pve or wvw because I know there are other people there relying on me to not kitten up. Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of casual gamer friends. Luckily they know when they are out of their depth and pass on doing things like sub-5 man roaming, fractals >40, etc.

Guard/Ranger/Ele are paper

Scissors beat paper, Paper beats rock, Rock beats scissors. Until Rock hits 80 and discover healing signet. Then rock also beats paper, and would beat scissors but he can’t find scissors because scissors are invisible or waypoint. So scissors beats paper and avoids rock…and that is called balance!

Rofl, warrior is a “B Student” and just “OK” kitten you casuals…

A warrior with war-horn and 20 traits can out cleanse a guardian (who apparently has a ton of condi clear) with 30 trait points, pigeon holed utilities, and soldier runes. They can also easily out heal with shouts.
They have an insane amount of CC and a lot of damage thats really bursty.
Highest HP, highest sustained self healing, 2nd to an engie for invuln up-time per minute.
Can put more bleeds/burning on targets than any other class at an insanely high rate.
Highest mobility which works amazingly well with healing signet/adrenal heal
etc.
etc.
etc.

3 out of 4 players is either war or gaurd

Oh heavens. I don’t doubt that heavies are popular, but making up ratios isn’t useful. You could focus on builds/playstyles that make them popular, though.

Warrior: HAMBOW, condi warrior, Ham-Holla, running man, CC-Axe burst, M-Sh/GS, etc, etc…

Guard: Healaway (which was nerfed hard), Support/Condi clear (which was nerfed hard)

The only reason you see Guards out there more than warriors is because people hate re-rolling, wvw exp, and they are still ok on hammer trains.

Depends on the profession you’re fighting as. Professions with good aoe or lots of cleave aren’t effected as much as single target ranged attacks. It’s harder to deal with in larger open areas (WvW) than smaller nodes (PvP).

While 5,2 doesn’t take a lot of skill to perform… I counter bp->hs every single day. A lot of of thieves freak out and don’t seem to know what to do when you deny stealth and have just ripped away 9 Ini (heavy price to pay when it is countered). Some classes have a much harder time Vs it… while others have an easier time. Overall I find it pretty well balanced on thief.

Having a knockback on block would reward the player for bad play. They had their opportunity to stop the thief from entering stealth. They had the opportunity to reposition to make it harder/impossible to backstab. Why should they get another easier way of countering it at that point with a block that cc’s the thief?

Yes, its nice to have a spamable root/interrupt…but most of us don’t have that. We get one chance and thats it for 15+ seconds on most other classes. Thats assuming any of that hits with the stupid amount of kittening blind spam coming from d/p thieves. Pistol 5 pulses blind every second (completely kittening kittened idea btw), stealth pulses blind every 3 seconds (also dumb kittening trait), and black powder shot itself blinds since its a 100% projectile finisher (GJ there anet). I mean, I’ve never balanced an MMO in my life, but stuff like D/P thieves and healing signet are pretty obvious they need to be changed.

There are about 12-15 other things wrong with the Guardian and thats just with weapons. Trait lines are FUBAR, Symbols and Consecration aren’t that good in wvw and are OK in spvp, spirit weapons are a joke, mediocre condi removal, ZERO soft CC, long cooldowns on hard CC, stupidly low HP pool, etc, etc, etc…

When you see the group composition of wvw population go from about 10% warriors to about 30% warriors you’re doing something wrong balance wise (this probably has something to do with the 6.5 months of buffing they got)
When you see 95% of your class population start using one specific heal you’re doing something wrong balance wise.

I got full ascended celestial and berzerker on my Guard…these past few months have been a complete cluster kitten for me in GW2. Nerfing a 30 point shout trait, nerfing purging flames, further pigeon holing with vigor nerf, retal damage nerf, etc, etc, etc…seriously the biggest charlie foxtrot I’ve seen in development cycles.

Hello Guardians,

So I wanted to talk about the bigger discussion topics for the Dec changes for you as well.

Shattered Aegis
As soon as I get in on Monday, I’ll post the damage #s on this and the power scaling. I think a meaning ful discussion about this change is going to require that. One danger here is that big WvW zergs using this could be really powerful, but I will say that the numbers are decent.

Supreme Justice and Kindled Zeal
I feel like there is a build here, but TBH I haven’t gotten it to work in our internal testing yet. This is as good a place as any to talk about stat conversion traits.

Currently they do not convert 100% of a stat because certain stat bonuses such as those from signets do not get converted. For that reason we are being conservative but normalizing all of our conversions to the follow #s for now.
Minor: 5%,7%, and 10% respectively for adept, master and grandmaster.
Major: 7%,10%, and 13% respectively for adept, master, and grandmaster.

I’m not sure this will be enough, but I do not want these traits to be overpowered as I feel they are fairly passive. That being said, I think they are good simple traits and with 12 traits per line it is absolutely fine to have some passive simple to understand traits.

Another thing about this build is that you do not have all of the information you need about this power guardian right now, but I can’t reveal more without spoilers. /tease

Symbol of Swiftness
To clarify the new Symbol of Swiftness will give you 4 seconds of Swiftness every single pulse regardless of if you have swiftness or not. This is a improvement in many situations and a slight loss in the situation where you were using the Symbol as just a one time buff. I think this makes it feel more like a Symbol, which is good. We are still discussing the idea of it being 5 seconds, but there is some danger of that going pretty high with boon duration.

Power guardian vs Condition guardian
I think Dec 10th will see the emergence of the power guardian, but I think that the condition based guardian still has a ways to go. Ultimately this is because it is hard to cover the burning and frankly you need a good reliable second or even third condition that guardians simply do not have right now. I think for those professions lacking that 3rd damage condition we are looking at supplementing them via runes and sigils rather than skills/traits right now but that won’t be something we attempt until the build that follows the Dec 10th build.

Stealth is really strong as theres no risk vs reward tied to it, its all reward. Its just even amplified to ridiculousness when its a d/p thief, p/d condi, or PU condi mesmer.

Except for the last point of the “Players X? Anet Y.” list, they all came from demands of the general forums playerbase. Not the testers.
Testers comments were aimed at making the map tools more convenient. They did asked for more central WP, a third way to leave the spawn that would go direclty to the lower map. Testers asked for desert bonus to be more passive, to be balanced with the others, and for the kodan’s part to also give some travel boon.
A map with no objectives would be a dead map. Just leaving everything open, no ppt, no other action than players being there would not make for an attractive map for most players. Plus, it’s a WvW map, even if different. System of WvW is PPT and take structure.
Fight is my thing, and nice fights, even more strategical than regular WvW can take place there.
Once again, general comments are not constructive. Do share vision of what this map should be. Empty, with no PNJ or structures to be taken? Well, the problem is that it just wouldn’t be WvW, but a new game mode…

Weird, I dont remember much of Anet ever asking our opinion on anything and then using that. But if that is true, then whatever moron suggested automatic turrets on a 5 second CD with fast projectiles and a 2 second knockdown should go back to simcity or something.

I would like to see links on where Anet said they wanted this for a specific reason. People say “Anet wanted EotM for X or Y reason” and I don’t remember them saying any of that

I read a post once from the dev’s that left me with the impression that the reason they added the map as because they wanted to open the game up to new markets. They anticipated a ton of Chinese players and wanted a way to deal with them (I.e. Endless maps).

I’d still like to see “We wanted this for a specific reason” instead of guessing =P

It’s pretty easy to dodge the turret attacks or bring stability.

Yes, but not so easy mid fight.

Go back to your borderlands, fight for your server instead of dying to NPC turrets for no reason =)

Its only killed me twice, and saved enemy players from getting stomped dozens of times. Which is why its so frustrating.
