Too much PvE to be considered an spvp’er, I’d like to see a rank and tourney wins before that title is bestowed. :P But the firm grasp of realistic class relative balance is SPOT ON. Seriously, you see it for what it is. Cant say that about everyone here, lol.

Exactly, that’s actually a really good point. This game isn’t half a year old, and people are attacking it, putting it down based on comparisons to well developed mmo’s. As a fresh MMO it has a lot to offer.

Theres nothing wrong with the tournament system imo, everything ever can be improved once Sprawl nit-picks it, and according to anet in the state of the game adress they are working on improving it.

I like how you stated ‘they havent said anything to make anyone think otherwise’ when you can go to the front page and read articles that address this, albeit briefly, and then reference the current state of the game. They have said things to make people think differently about this, but they arent implemented yet. So saying they havent said anything about it yet and pointing to what is right now in the game is kind of..oh idk backwards.

Thanks Hammerheart, I love sPvP too. I guess I got distracted by Sprawl justifying points that were irrelevant to the subject that no one disputed in the first place. I think he thinks hes right versus me, or something that people on the jersey shore think.

Casuals care about content, elitists care about quality and enjoy it knowing content will be released though it might not be 4 months after release(these people are also often referred to as adults, which isnt necessarily true but often the case). I love the sPvP, the archetypes are great, the classes themselves are great and present diversity amongst the archetypes, the maps are fluent and feel relevant to the surroundings(instead of random blacksmith shops, farms, lumber yards, stables and mines surrounded by impossible-to-scale mountains).

Well this is about pvp not pve, so im not sure where you are going with this. You dont seem to ever have any real solid points and your opinion doesnt seem worth while either. If there was any legitimacy to what you are saying other than you stating your opinion as fact I might actually care.

Yeah ctf or something other than the age old Capture and Hold would be a great way to spice up the game. But Im still find with what we have now.

I love the change up of heart of the mists too for the holidays. The wintersday one got kind of old, but it could be a lot worse. The halloween one was amazingly cool.

A lot of people seem to complain about hotjoins but I think its their attitude getting in the way. Hotjoins are a lot of fun, they’re a great way to relax and casually play your class. The fact that free tournaments pop so much is great too. There’s a healthy mix of teams and pug’s which helps bridge the gap to Paid Tournametns, shows people how its done and what to expect while giving them a chance against other pugs and a break from hot joins(if they popped more haha, they will eventually).

Yeaaaah!!! Love all the sPvP love we’re getting here.

My favorite thing about the sPvP besides the PvP is the fact that I get to play any class whenever I want to and if I havent poured gold into dyes on a character I can just re-make any of them if I decide I want them to look different. Love it.

First of all this is a thread for people who love sPvP. Please stay on topic, go to the swtor forums or somewhere where your attitude is popular, like runescape, 4chan, reddit or 8th grade.

Im not sure what you mean, I never made the obvious mistake of playing swtor. I did play gw1 however, which you clearly didnt. You should take a look at the content release record of gw1.

Unlike SWTOR, you can look back at gw1 and have an educated idea as to what to expect. So, yeah…patience has actually been proven to be rewarding with anet.

I love sPvP.

Im not a try hard, I’m not a no-lifer, I’m only ranked in the mid 30’s because I mistakenly got a character to 80. We are only called these names because people are jealous.

Some of us are just born better, some of us start off at a higher level of skill and understanding than others. I see, talk with, and play with/against these people every day in sPvP. We are a niche community, and a lot of wvw/pve fanboys have a lot to complain about us, and with good reason. We make it hard.

I LOVE gw2 sPvP, and yeah its lacking in certain aspects and you would kind of expect more from the hype, but the quality of the pvp that is available is better than anywhere else I could go. Its not about the rewards, or the options, or diverse pvp content, what is already there promises an amazing future. That stuff comes in time.

Every single MMO that has tried to accomplish a solid pvp component has started off basic and expanded from there. I can wait, I’m patient. Patience is one of those things that makes US better.

My friends and I rolled on Jade Quarry when the game was released and I’ve been heavily spvp’ing over the last 4 months. During this time a lot more teams have transferred off than have come to Jade Quarry and through the grape vine I’ve heard that Anvil Rock is the cool place to be right now for sPvP’ers. Any legitimacy to this?

I know right, I saw this and said to myself “highly-skilled” lol. I rolled a thief about a month ago, got it into full orrian and have half the mistwalker set for him as well. How did I do it? I rolled a thief. Didnt have to try, no learning involved, no skill curve. I just rolled a thief and played it. Its the easiest most mindless thing in the entire world, its easier than any OP class Ive ever played or have seen in any other MMO ever.

But hey, if it makes this guy feel good he should keep it up, if he played any other class he would quit the game.

If you play a Mesmer for a little while you wont have nearly as many problems once you revert back to whatever class you are playing now. Seeing a couple Mesmer’s and saying, well im out, will never get you anywhere. People think Guardians, Mesmer, Thieves and Ele’s are these GODS AMONGST MERE MORTALS…they arent, you just need to understand their class, you need to be able to read their build and know what they’re doing.

Its not hard and its what you should be doing if you aim to establish yourself in spvp.

Its harder to play against a Mesmer and come out on top by hitting the right buttons in response to the buttons the Mesmer is hitting. You actually have to out-play the Mesmer. Here’s a few tips from a long time Mesmer: pay attention, dodge roll.

How about revitalizing the paid tournament scene? Theres a lot of interest from the general spvp public now, less so from the hardcore pvp’ers, but something is halting all tpvp.

Its taking a lot longer to deliver spvp than it did to woo all of us into it with pretty promises. Guess its back to the waiting game.

Whats bunker dominated about it? It’s EXTREMELY EASY to kill a bunker. l2p

You don’t run paid tourneys without bunkers. Everything else is negotiable (you can try a little of this, a little of that, etc), but you absolutely need bunkers to have a chance at winning against an equally skilled team.

Correct, but that doesnt make it bunker dominated. If that makes it bunker dominated then you might as well say its DPS dominated because theres a lot less bunkers than everything else and you need to take classes other than bunkers just as much as you need to take bunkers. Using your own logic here.

have you played a single tpvp game in the last month? every team brings at least one bunker. guild mates even run with two. there’s specs that are too strong on their own and can outlast too much damage. bring a bunker or go home.

That leaves..what…4 other classes that arent bunker if every team brings 1 bunker? I fail to see how 20% of the tpvp population is “dominating” the other 80%

If you stealth to stomp, and are stealthed the entire time, you are reserving something like shadows refuge, or are combo’ing CnD and the steal from a thief.

Basically, if someone is stomping you and stealthed the entire time, they are going out of their way to do it. Otherwise every other single stealth source cant keep them stealthed long enough, which should give you time to react.

I dont see a single glass cannon thief in tpvp, and in spvp half are death blossom scrubs, aka not glassy. ANet has stated that spike builds are meant to be doing what they are doing, and honestly the players need to l2p if they want to survive the spike trend.

I dont understand how the game has been out since August and so many people still dont understand why down state is necessary. I mean seriously, it is NOT a hard concept to grasp.

What is the point of downed state? To supplement the essential mechanic of rezzing that is usually left to healing archetypes which do not exist in this game.

Im talking about spvp, which you clearly know nothing about. I suppose I should’ve clarified this in my original post but this is in concern to spvp. Also, my “burst build” isnt a burst build in the sense that you are referencing it to. You really should do some research, 17k damage is unnatural for an AUTO ATTACK. Yes. Auto-attack. You know, that skill in the number 1 slot?

Anyone have some real feedback here? Is this a bug? Exploit? Is there a Thief build I have overlooked in my research that allows their autoattack to do damage that would one shot ele’s and support/hybrid guardians?

Is this normal? Because honestly this seems VERY ridiculous. My main is a Mesmer, my favorite build is a shatter build, which is notorious for burst, but its NOTHING compared to this one shot….This guy hit me with every single of one these skills at once, literally insta-killing me because of the 17k~ damage from Backstab alone.

I kill Guardians without boon stripping, as a Mesmer, Ranger, and Necro. The trick is understanding your class.

Crap DPS? Cant tell you, I only PvP. We have the best burst, though.
