Crate drop rate nerfed?

One thing I don’t get is why Anet made the chance of getting a ticket so low, as well as made the crates so easy to farm. As long as a person knows how to farm crates they will get on average, around 1-5 crates an hour (along with a good amount of T6 mats). However, if you buy a crate using gems to gold each crate would be over 4g. Putting these two together I don’t understand why anyone would buy crates over just farming them unless they were pressed for time.

Anyway, so far I’ve opened 46 farmed crates and have only gotten a portable forge, a focus skin, and some karka slaying potions. But meh, I can’t really complain since all the farming has netted me about 80g in mats.

Farming gold is easy. I can easily farm 100+ gold per day by, literally, standing in one certain spot in a specific zone (a zone I will not name). However, in Southsun, I have yet to see even a single crate drop.

Averaging doesn’t work in the face of diminishing returns and RNG. It’s great that you have had so much success. Not everyone is as fortunate.

Does culling effect supply crates?

I assume you never played swtor. The personal storyline made you feel like you were the most powerful, most important being in all the known universe.

I must’ve been playing a different SWTOR, the story there made me feel like I was the Republic’s clean-up crew.

Maybe you should have gone Sith. The Inquisitor storyline was nothing short of masterpiece. It could have been the script to it’s very own high budget movie.

So, you are saying that a mmoRPG should make the player feel generic and unimportant in the storyline? Sorry, but that is what real life is for. In a fantasy RPG, your character should feel important and powerful. You should feel as if your decisions have a direct impact on the game world as well as the characters around you.

I’ve never met anyone interested in role-playing a plumber, janitor, ditch-digger, etc.

In swtor, everyone (npcs) bowed and begged and groveled at my feet. They feared my very presence. As the 1st part of the storyline ended, I was just about to hunt down and kill the emperor, himself, usurp the throne and become emperor of the galaxy.

Further, so you can become emperor in SWTOR? That sounds… silly, and it certainly wouldn’t help me feeling immersed into the story, because I never heard of emperor Elbegast or whatever. In a MMO I would rather have a story in which I help the heroes achieve something, because that means I can share this story with all other players. Of course, if you need to have people grovel before you…

No, you didn’t become the emperor. But the storyline had you believing that you were on the path to do so. It made you feel very important to the story and gave the impression that the plot line would collapse without your character’s direct involvement. (I played a Sith Inquisitor). It was a good feeling and one of the best storylines I have ever experienced in any game (not just in mmos).

I don’t want to help the heroes; I want to be the hero. Being a squire or a side-kick is no fun (for me anyway).

I’ve never seen a crate. I’m really starting to become disenchanted with this game. It seems that everything in the game is geared to get you into their cash shop. It’s a shame, really. This game has so much potential.

I will never spend so much as a dime in the cash shop. The $60, I dropped on the game, should have been more than enough. If it wasn’t, then maybe ArenaNet should consider a subscription based model?

If content, purchased at a cash shop, “defines the future of online roleplaying games” , then I want no part of it.

I just can’t understand how I have thoroughly enjoyed GW1 for years but am struggling to force myself to log on to GW2 after only two months.

No, I didn’t play SWTOR. But the personal storyline of GW2 allows you to do many heroic things too, but that’s just illusion created by the need for gameplay. It’s not you that formed the Pact, it’s Trahearne. I don’t know how it’s handled in SWTOR, but in the ongoing story of a MMO, no player can be the hero.
And the NPCs don’t need to beg and grovel, there are a thousand other guys ready to do that footwork. You are not alone in the world of Tyria and you’re not by far the most powerful. Deal with it.

I very much want to feel powerful and important in a place like Southsun. I don’t want to feel like I’m the lackey, grunt or henchman of the NPCs.

This is supposed to be a RPG. I don’t role-play a slave so, please, stop treating me like one.

You play what you play in every MMO: the guy who helps out in times of trouble. Just like 1000000 other people. Southsun cove is meant to be challenging, if it’s too hard, go somewhere else. And if you want to be the hero of the story, play a single-player RPG, because you can’t in a MMO.

I assume you never played swtor. The personal storyline made you feel like you were the most powerful, most important being in all the known universe.

WoW and GW2 make you feel like a subjugate of lesser beings. If I don’t feel important to the story, I don’t feel motivated to play.

And, please, stop telling people to play single player RPGs. I enjoy seeing other players in the game world. What I don’t enjoy is being assigned footwork by generic NPCs that are too lazy to leave camp and attempt it themselves.

If they want me to kill Karka for them, they should tell me that they are not powerful enough to defend themselves and should then proceed to beg and grovel for my assistance. I have had enough of Kiel’s lip. And those Asura….so arrogant yet so small and weak. I would kill them on sight for saying “Hey you, come here and listen!”, if only the game mechanics would allow it.

I spent half a day there to get my back pieces and haven’t been back since. I’m boycotting the island for the duration of the event.

There’s nothing fun about killing the same mobs over and over again.
There’s nothing fun about repeatedly banging your head against the wall to farm crates/skins.
There’s nothing fun about a story that reduces the player to lowly grunt work by poorly written, lazy, generic NPCs (Yes, Kiel, Canach, Noll, etc….all just generic lowlifes who don’t deserve the honor of licking the dust from my boots).

I very much want to feel powerful and important in a place like Southsun. I don’t want to feel like I’m the lackey, grunt or henchman of the NPCs.

Let me, for the record, state:

I am NOT against ‘group content’. Neither am I against 5 man dungeons.

I am against content which forces you to form an organized party when, and only when, it is presented as the conclusion to an (until now) entirely soloable (or unpartied dynamic group event) chain of ‘personal storyline’/‘living storyline’ content.

Guild Wars 2 offered a constantly changing ‘personal story’, updated frequently. It offered the ability to complete group content without the need to form a party.

Tell me, what is ‘personal’ about doing a long chain of solo content only to see the ‘wrap-up’ of the party leader’s story, and not your own, in a 5 man dungeon with 4 other strangers?

I’m not saying to remove 5 man content. If anything, add more and make it a completely separate story from the solo content; much like the ’Destiny’s Edge’ storyline. But please, don’t tack it onto the end of my soloable personal or living story content.

People also forget that you don’t have to do the dungeon to see the story wrap up on the 12th. That, and you get the achievement simply by setting foot in the dungeon. Getting the finale of the story is completely separate from doing the optional dungeon content.

Wait…I set foot in the dungeon, and as far as I know, I did not get the achievement—I thought you only got that for completing the dungeon?
Or has this something that’s been changed in the last few days that I haven’t been playing at all?

i got the achievement the moment i loaded into the dungeon.

I just tried and it didn’t work. You got lucky.

It gets grating when people keep staying “steampunk” over and over and over to describe something it doesn’t apply to. Nothing is steampowered and there is no Victorian aesthetic to the game. There is precisely zero “steampunk” in GW2.

That said, generic dragons + elves fantasy has been done to death. Yeah, its popular but its tired and developers shouldn’t be afraid to step up and take things in a different direction.. I’m glad GW2 is franchise that isn’t afraid to go against the regurgitated tropes and cliches of magic/Tolkein/elves/bland.

I guess you missed the smokestacks on the Charr Siege Cycles at the Black Citadel. It looks like they were taken straight off a Mississippi River Steamboat. Not to mention the ‘cow catcher’ present on many mobile Charr constructs.

Technology (lasers, tanks, teleport pads, guns, etc.) just kill the immersion for me. I want a return to the “bland” elves/magic/swords D&D cliche. This game is supposed to be a fantasy mmo; not science fiction.

All I can say is that I am glad that the non-dungeon people seem to be a distinct minority. If you want a game that you play by yourself, then by definition an MMO is not for you. Play a single-player game like the Witcher or something. I hope they have a dungeon in this storyline and all of the others….the more the merrier.

I never said I wanted a game that I play by myself. I like seeing other ‘real’ people in the game world. I like stopping by and helping others, when I am able.

What I do not like is being forced to group with 4 other people for the very last leg of an entire soloable chain of content. It feels like a ‘bait & switch’.

I enjoy group content (SB, Shatterer, Jormag, etc.). I don’t enjoy being forced into a party to see or complete that content. There is nothing fun or compelling or heroic about begging 4 others to run you through a dungeon so that you may have a chance of seeing the resolution to a soloable chain of content.

Group dungeons are fine. Just keep that content away from my personal and living storylines.

The F&F Dungeon was fun and unique. When it disappears in a week, it’ll leave us wanting more. That said, I’m am eager to return to Southsun for new content, whatever form it will take.

It left me wanting less. I can’t even bear to log in right now because I can’t finish my personal and F&F story due to the dungeons. They just sit there, on the top-right of my screen, mocking me. It’s destroyed all of my motivation to play.

Really? I don’t understand that. The dungeon isn’t extremely difficult if you’re well geared, (a prerequisite that is prettymuch assumed when you’re dealing with new endgame content) finding players isn’t particularly difficult (try your guild, friends list, lion’s arch map chat, or third party looking for group website), and the dungeon doesn’t take very long at all. You’ve still got a week to do it, too. This isn’t even mentioning the fact that it’s outright fun and features one of the coolest boss battles we’ve ever seen in guild wars 2.

Why are you unable to complete this content?

I had enough of 5 man dungeons in WoW. I came here to get away from that model. I played GW1 for years and never had to group to complete anything. Until the end of my personal and F&F storylines, I could solo the entire storylines. Now, my PERSONAL story will forever go uncompleted as well as the F&F storyline.

I don’t join guilds. I have no one on my friends list. I don’t beg and grovel others to carry me through content.

Don’t get me wrong; I like seeing other players in the game world. I like stopping in and helping them out, if I happen to pass by. I DO NOT like depending on them, begging them, hassling them, so that I may complete MY storylines.

If I wanted to party to run my dungeons, I would still be playing WoW.

Im glad as well. Its a chance for them to renew the zone, to polish it. It really needs a meta event or 2, and some more dynamic events. Or a dungeon. Karka dungeon????

Unless the dungeon is soloable, no. I’m sick of being forced to party to complete content.

Does it really take that much energy to type in map chat “LFG” or “LFxM dungeon” or just typing into the party invitation pane “character name” and clicking join to a person looking for more? Or is it because you just don’t like playing with other people, because if that’s the case it baffles me that you’re playing an MMO like GW2, where the entire world is based upon cooperation.

GW2 appealed to me because it allowed you to do group content without forming a party. I have no desire to beg 4 other people to run me through a dungeon because I am too weak to complete it on my own. I never had to party to complete dungeons in GW1. Why should I be forced to in GW2?

Forcing people to play with other people in an MMO is just wrong. Why is the game even online, jesus!

Playing with others is fine. I do it all the time.
For example,
I see Oakheart is up and I swing in to help someone down it. Or I see a player fighting for a skill point and I jump in and help them out. I see a group of players dying to the Krait Witch and I jump in and die right along with them.

What’s not fine is being forced to form a party with 4 others to complete a solo (Personal & F&F, for example) storyline.

I left WoW, after 7 years, because I was sick of grouping up to see instanced content. I loved Guild Wars 2 (until the end of the personal and F&F stories, at least) because I could specifically do group content without forming a party.

And NOTHING about the term ‘MMO’ implies that you are expected to form a party to complete content.

An hour for a measly 100g? Doesn’t seem worth it….unless there’s something I’m missing.

I suppose you have a faster way to make gold? ‘Cause I’d say this is a really good way to spend your karma.

Yeah, I have a faster way….go out and kill stuff. I got more gold and karma than I know what to do with. Gold is useless. Karma is useless. Only thing worth anything is Laurels and it’s just a headache farming those.

You are trolling right? There’s no way you can get more than (or close to) 100g for an hour of killing mobs.

Do you even craft? If you aren’t making 100g+/hour, you aren’t trying. I’m baffled by people who seem to be perpetually broke in a game that hands out copper and loot with every other kill.

You’re either trolling, or misunderstanding. They’re not talking about copper or silver, they’re talking about gold. 1g=100s=10 000c
You cannot make 100g an hour in GW2 by killing mobs, even if you farmed them so hard that you had blood shooting from your tearducts.

Yes you can. You just have to be smart. You don’t make gold by spending it. If you are trying to make gold but buying things on the Trading Co., you are doing it wrong. The Black Lion Trading Company is there to make you money at the expense of the players with questionable intelligence. Mobs are there to provide you with items to place on the Trading Co. If you want to make gold, get to killing/crafting and stop your spending.

So you make 100g per hour consistently, hour after hour, farming mobs and selling the resultant items you have looted/salvaged/crafted from the drops on the TP? I don’t think so.

No, not ‘hour after hour’. I make 100g or more in ~hour (more or less), only when I feel like farming. I don’t farm for gold 24/7 or anything like that.

Another tip: Sell Guild Bounty locations during your farming runs and questing forays. Some guilds will pay 10g or more for current GB locations.

Some people just have no business sense. Opportunities abound in GW2. You just have to learn to recognize them.

Lol. How do you farm 100g in one hour? Please tell me (don’t say ‘just kill stuff’ because that is just plainly untrue :P).

And 10g for a gb location? Lol there are websites (dulfy.com) that give you the locations for free. And even if you don’t know the location, finding the guy isn’t the hardest part of completing the guild bounty.

I believe I smell bullkitten ..

Kill stuff. Salvage stuff. Craft stuff. List stuff. The trick is it must be the right stuff. I’m not sharing that part. You will have to figure that out on your own. I don’t much cotten to competition.

And, only yesterday, I was offered 5g for the location of the GB in Diessa Plateau. A certain “Short-Fuse Felix” , if I remember correctly, who has a rather large patrol path.

What I’m wondering is why so many people hate it? :S

Because a) You can only have it on one character on your entire account, and
b) The only people allowed to get it are the dungeon-runners, since there isn’t any alternative way to get (or at least get credit for) the cutscenes that complete the achievement track.

I haven’t seen much complaint about the gloves otherwise. Kind of a shame really—if they looked horrible, I wouldn’t mind so much being locked out of getting them and having totally wasted my effort and participation for the last couple of months.

Why not do the dungeon?

Because it’s a dungeon and forces you into a group, instead of providing options for both group and solo players like the old GW1 storylines gave you?

Oh no, a group. Boo hiss, we hates the other people, yesss.

It’s a single story dungeon that takes far less than an hour to complete. If you somehow don’t know a guild/have friends who’ll run it with you, just pug it. You have a half or better chance of getting with a good group.

Dungeons are great and don’t get much love from Anet, this is a change for the better. You can’t expect something to be made a cakewalk because you’re scared of playing with others for half an hour on a massively multiplayer online game.

I had enough of the ‘5 man dungeon’ in WoW. I don’t want to be forced into one here. If I wanted to run dungeons, I would still be over there.

And it doesn’t matter how long it takes to complete, the fact is the whole storyline can be soloed and then they spring the 5 man on you at the very end. It’s wrong.

4 days ago, I loved this game. I couldn’t get enough of it. Now, because of the 5 mans at the end of F&F and Personal Story, I can’t stand to log in. Being mocked by that “Defeat Zhaitan” and “Flame & Frost: Retribution” in the top right of my screen makes me feel like complete and utter garbage.

There are no quests in skyrim that take multiple days to complete and have a bug that prevents completion, I’ve played skyim extensively

no, but NPCs you need to talk to can get stuck under the floor and stuff making you unable to even start a quest.

But in Skyrim, you can use console commands to reset those NPCs. You can’t do that here. Here, you have to wait for Mitch, in the tech department, to finish his refresher class on coding and debugging.

well if you could use console commands in an MMO what do you think it would turn into?

I never said that. If anything, I implied that Mitch needs to get off his kitten and fix the bugs in this game before I start making websites to tell people to stay away from GW2 as it is unplayable.

You are talking about one bugged thing in a game full of thousands of events, hearts, skill points…. and this ONE thing makes the game unplayable?

Your threats to start making websites telling people the game is unplayable because of one TEMPORARILY bugged thing does not make you sound adult or rational.

It’s been bugged for months and it’s not the only one. Much of the (temporary!) Flame & Frost content is bugged. It’s so bad that people are forced to guest onto other servers in hopes of completing the achievements.

Anet isn’t taking these game breaking bugs seriously. If they are having problems rooting out the causes, they need to hire more people; skilled people who actually know what they are doing.

I hope you didn’t actually buy all those keys from the cash shop. There are children, cold and starving, living on a street near your home. That cash would have went a long way in their frayed, worn pockets.

It’s his/her money – he/she can spend it whatever way he/she wanted.

You’re right. Digital pixels are way more awesome then helping starving children anyways.

It’s not his responsibility to help anyone..

Anyways..
Since that is your point – why not cut costs your own and help someone? Internet is digital pixels anyways – you can live without it. Oh, GW2 is also composed of digital pixels – that $60 could feed some 5-6 children.

I buy socks, underwear, blankets, jackets, gloves, hats, bottled water, toiletries and McDonald’s gift cards to hand out to the homeless, on a regular basis. I canceled my WoW sub and bought GW2 so I could use the subscription money to help more people.

You see, at one time I was homeless myself. I lived in an alley between a music store and a fire department. The music store owner took pity on me and gave me a job. It lifted me out of my state of destitution and put me on the right path. I now help others as often as I can.

What have you done?

I paid taxes.

Which accomplishes nothing. You honestly trust the government to divvy out that cash to those who actually need it? You should take more personal responsibility and rely less on the government to do your bidding.

Stealth has a counter. When it runs out, you come out of stealth.

I can’t believe people are complaining about the fake ‘stealth’ in this game. It’s useless as it only lasts a few seconds. Stealth, in this game, is a sad, sad joke.

Too bad I’ll never get them. Can’t get 4 other players to run MF. Oh well, at least TES Online is on the way. I just have to suffer, wandering about Tyria, pretending to be a glorified NPC until TES is released.

More magic/mysticism less technology

The Asura are nothing more than steampunk garbage. They were much better in GW1. Now, they just annoy me with all the stupid technology that should never exist in a fantasy themed mmo.

Bwah? How are you getting Steampunk from the Asura?? The Charr, I can see it easily (either steampunk or post-apocalyptic), but the Asura? They’re magitech pushing toward outright sci-fi levels (forcefields, glowy consoles, etc), definitely not steampunk.
Silvari are basic ‘Elven Organic’…and I keep wondering why in the heck humans are still ‘plain medival’, really.

The Charr are terrible, too, with their gigantic siege motorcycles and their ‘Black Citadel’ that looks like a reject from SWTOR.

The Asura have warpgates and wormhholes and laser cannons.

Why am I building arrow carts, ballistas and trebs in WvW when I should be riding around on a Charr Seige Cycle?

The whole thing is stupid. Magic, Dragons and Swords…..that’s all this game needs. The ‘technology’ just kills the immersion and makes me hate Asura and Charr. Heck, I won’t even help an Asura or Charr player because of it.

1. Wait until “A New Build Is Available.”
2. Immediately relaunch your client and log in.
3. Click on the Cattlepult and get the achievement.
4. (Optional) Start the event so that the Cattlepult will bug out again and others can’t get the Vista.

Maybe you couldn’t. Okay, the giant worm and explosive kegs was a bit challenging but I managed to complete it with some clever flagging. The Underworld was always fun.

No, it was actually IMPOSSIBLE to solo certain things in GW1. As in, couldn’t be done at all, no matter how good you where.

Strange, I never ran across any of that content and I had all expansions + heroes. I ran into some difficult mobs and dungeons, at times, but I always managed to complete them solo.

I would like to know what content was ‘impossible’ to solo?

I did read up on GW2. Nowhere did it mention that 5 man dungeons would be mandatory to complete the storylines.

And nowhere did it mention that you would be able to solo every single thing in the game either.

No, but you could solo everything in GW1. So…as stated previously….why should GW2 be any different in that regard?

I didn’t buy this game expecting a WoW clone but it seems Anet is turning it into one.

You are seriously asking why GW2 should be different than GW1? Really?

Different is fine. Forcing grouped content to complete ‘Personal’ and event storylines is not fine. I expect grouped content to be forced upon me by Blizzard but not by ArenaNet.
