Tara Strong, ponybow, MLPrelated Helloween quest at GW1 and so on. Well-well-well, will we hear other pony voices in-game? I hope so, huh.
And btw – Tara Strong, Steve Blum – more of them, please!

You also didn’t catch the April Fool’s update for GW1 that mentioned "All the elementalist’s Attributes have been rolled into the single “Friendship” Attribute"?

So using the physical features of a woman is sexist, giving them all cooking equipment is progressive?

I officially don’t understand feminism anymore.

I don’t think anyone does, not even the feminists. I mean, I know what it used to be about and I was all for that . It’s not about that anymore. It’s about this . This is a step backwards.

Why can’t people just label themselves ‘humanists’ and be done with it? Or better yet, ‘humans’ ?

Personally, I think the Watchnights are fine. I think the Crystal Giant is fine. I think depictions of the human form, whether nude or not, are fine. I also believe one should be far more concerned about the concepts of hate, oppression, violence, etc., rather than worrying about nudity. I mean, all of you play a game in which you continuously kill everything around you with reckless abandon; other players included. Yet, you are worried about mechanical nipples?!?

If the Asura are gonna be all ‘sci-fi’, I may as well make some movies. ‘Skelknado’ , the sequel ‘Hurriskale’ , yet other sequels ‘Skelknado vs Hurriskale’ , ‘Son of Skelknado’ , ‘Bride of Hurriskale’ , ‘Destroy All Writers!’ and the ever controversial venture into the dangers of artificial intelligence, ‘Blue Waypoints’.

Another good idea, harvest every node you come across…cooking ingredients, wood, ore, etc. Don’t pass any of them up. Deposit all of it into your bank and use it for crafting or sell it for gold to buy gear at level 80.

Salvage everything blue quality and lower. Save greens and yellows for the mystic forge in Lion’s Arch or sell them on the trading post.

Again, I can’t stress enough…bank everything…all of your crafting materials. Save those for level 80.

Doc Holliday: That’s the rumor.

Johnny Ringo: You retired too?

Doc Holliday: Not me. I’m in my prime.

Johnny Ringo: Yeah, you look it.

Doc Holliday: And you must be Ringo. Look, darling, Johnny Ringo. The deadliest pistoleer since Wild Bill, they say. What do you think, darling? Should I hate him?

Kate: You don’t even know him.

Doc Holliday: Yes, but there’s just something about him. Something around the eyes, I don’t know, reminds me of… me. No. I’m sure of it, I hate him.

Wyatt Earp: [to Ringo] He’s drunk.

Doc Holliday: In vino veritas.

Johnny Ringo: Age quod agis.
[“Do what you do” meaning: “Do what you do best”]

Doc Holliday: Credat Judaeus apella, non ego.
[“The Jew Apella may believe it, not I” meaning: “I don’t believe drinking is what I do best.”]

Johnny Ringo: [pats his gun] Eventus stultorum magister.
[“Events are the teachers of fools” meaning: “Fools have to learn by experience”]

Doc Holliday: [gives a Cheshire cat smile] In pace requiescat.
[“Rest in peace” meaning: “It’s your funeral!”]

Tombstone Marshal Fred White: Come on boys. We don’t want any trouble in here. Not in any language.

Doc Holliday: Evidently Mr. Ringo’s an educated man. Now I really hate him.

Divinity’s Reach has book carts scattered about. Seems a good way to convey some written lore to the player base.

I don’t know, maybe I’m crazy but they should also sell, at the Gem Store (and possibly give a very rare chance for a world drop), virtual, in-game versions of the book store novels by Ree Soesbee. Add them to the readable materials at the book carts perhaps.

They could also add various bits of texts to the open world for explorers to find, unlock and add to their personal book cart material.

To me, they’re modelled after Amazonians. Would you prefer if she surrounded herself with hulky half dressed man bots?

They’re not sex bots. They’re dangerous warriors intended to defend the realm. Why is it a bad thing that these defenders were modelled after women? Is Xena a bad example too, should she have been Male?

Amazonians didn’t wear high heels nor did they have such a tiny waist. If anything they’d be far larger, more muscle-y, and definitely be flat footed.

They also physically removed the breast on the side of their dominant arm so as to better their aim in combat. Peter Weller said it so I am inclined to believe it.

Glad you enjoyed the story—thanks very much!

As for Rox’s, she’s unusually superstitious for a charr (or anyone else, really). A lot of soldiers are superstitious, but Rox was ahead of the curve before she survived the accident that killed her warband. Since she survived on almost pure luck (she was out of the mine when the disaster happened), she’s become even moreso.

Cheers, and thanks again,

I saw that cutscene. Destiny’s Edge was on a, uh…um…skyship to Cantha and Logan Thackeray had a dream that it was going to crash and kill everyone. They got off the, um, skyship and as they were freaking out inside the lob..er…at the waypoint, the skyship crashed…killing Rox’s old warband and all else onboard.

Do the daily and monthly quests. Save all of your Laurels. Do not waste them on crafting boxes or dye packs.

Save your gold. Use gear from drops until you reach level 80. At level 80, work on getting a full exotic (orange quality gear) set.

Deposit all of your crafting materials into the bank. Save them until you need them. Do not vendor them or sell them on the trading post…at least until you know what materials you will need for your crafting professions.

If you really want a ‘Living World’ , let’s get it on, ArenaNet.

Add land for players to purchase, build keeps/farms and to upgrade.

Add Hunting, Fishing and Farming. Let us grow, tend and harvest crops.

Add the ability to add NPCs to your property…guards, farmers, blacksmiths, etc.

Add guild halls and player owned shops.

Add player driven events that reward other players for participating. For example, I could send my wheat out on Pack Dolyaks, from my farm to market, through a GUI drop-down menu. If they make it alive, I get gold for grain. If other players step in to guard my dynamic event, they get a share of the profit in the form of gold, karma, etc.

GIVE US SEASONS! The world’s look is beautiful but all too stagnant. Better weather effects and a night that is actually dark would be nice, too. Give us a reason to use our new found torches.

More focus on zone by zone storytelling through progressive dynamic events and less focus on world/player base-funneling, one-time events. It’s nice to have large things happen in the world, on occasion, but temporary content is better suited to holidays than cohesive story lines.

It would also be nice to have a concise, in-game calendar to clarify what is considered to be annual/recurring ‘holiday’ content. It seems that it would be much less confusing and easier to follow the Living Story content with such an event calendar.

You do realize that Asura and all their floaty awesome technology… occurred in Guild Wars 1, right? They had golems, they had Asura Gates, they had force shields… The technology leap isn’t that great. We saw some of their over ground settlements and they were pretty awesome.

Also, don’t forget that Polymock existed in GW1. Polymock was a HOLOGRAM game.

And that Dragon Bash was like… 90% holograms?

And that Norn are too proud to EVER use froofy Asura tech?

And that Charr steam-tech makes them equivalent to Asura, just in a different way? Asura excel at the insides, but most of their creations lack the durability or usability of Charr steam tech. So they don’t need to pay Asura exorbitant prices?

And that Sylvari don’t give a flying frond?

And that humans actively use all of the tech because, like real life humans, they have little care about riding on the laurels of others?

In other words, I don’t see your issue. In fact, I’d be more perturbed by the GIANT LASERS THEY ARE MAKING if you are so annoyed about how different it is from Guild Wars 1.

So ya, sounds like you didn’t play Eye of the North if holograms are the thing that are bugging you.

I played EotN but I seem to remember the Asura being much more rooted in magical/alchemical experiments with magical/alchemical explanations behind their technology. I have seen none of that explained in GW2. With the Asura in GW2, all I see are a science fiction plot mechanic….lasers, droids, transporters, experiments, laboratories (yes, I remember Oola. I know, I know.), stargates, Borg cubes, time travel, etc.

Have you ever been to Rata Sum?

Yes and I have complained about the Sci-Fi Asura as well as the Steampunk Charr/Dredge.

This isn’t the Guild Wars that I knew and loved. ArenaNet may as well remove all melee weapons and replace them with blaster rifles. Mesmers could use holography rather than magic. It’s so sad.

And those dragons, as it turns out, are mechanical and filled with Asura. They would have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for those meddling kids and their crazy dog.

And, lo and behold, over two hundred years later, we are no longer using horse drawn carriages, using muzzle loading muskets and sailing on galleons. Hell, we even managed to go to the moon and send probes out that are on the cusp of leaving the solar system.

Seems you are just sad there wasn’t stagnation.

But, if that were the direction, why did they not commit? I believe I would have had a better experience had Guild Wars 2 went full on 21st Century rather than a bizarre magic, sci-fi, cryptozoology, paranormal, J.R.R. Tolkien, 18th Century, 2nd Century, Jurassic, Medieval, 37th Century, 1950s era M.A.S.H.-up. If they wanted to explore the idea of Elder Dragons, it seems they should have kept firmly rooted in Medieval fantasy.

This isn’t the Guild Wars that I knew and loved.

Thank god!
This odd dichotomy between magic and techno-magic/sharp sticks and boom-sticks is one of the main selling points of this game

If you can´t stomach this (or that Evon lost :P ) then you should go back to GW1 or another of the myriad medieval high-fantasy games.

All hail to the 50-foot tall see-through woman!

Firstly, I didn’t cast a single vote for either candidate. I don’t do politics and I especially don’t do politics in a video game.

Secondly, the game was hyped as being Guild Wars but with a persistent game world. Instead, it feels more like a reskinned World of Warcraft with a few familiar Guild Wars names/terms thrown in to connect it to it’s namesake. Nothing about this new ‘Guild Wars 2’ story even remotely reminds me of the original Guild Wars. It’s like comparing the film ‘Highlander’ to ‘Highlander 2’. Same characters, same lore, but part two presents a completely alternate and confusing storyline that does not mesh at all with the first film. It’s almost as if the writers for ‘Highlander 2’ were completely unaware that it was a sequel to a previous film.

Whenever I see an Asuran wearing flight goggles and holding a blaster rifle, I can’t help but think that we are actually in some galaxy far, far away and that we have discovered the planet-of-origin for Yoda’s species. Was Yoda Asuran?

You don’t realize a lot of things…like the gating involved in the living story…you know, the gating that draws everyone away from the world events and funnels them into very specific areas. On my realm, I’ve seen lone players solo pre-events only to leave the bosses up because there aren’t enough people in the zone to kill them.

The living story is acting like a vampire, sucking the life out of the open world and the core game content.

There is something wrong with your perception of the game and the players. The game cannot act like a vampire, sucking life (players) out of the open world. It is the free decision of people (like me) who prefer to do the new content for whatever reason they have. In my case it was the wish to get the achievements and now it is because I like to zerg in the pavilion. You don’t. I do. According to your complains a lot of people do.

The consequence of freedom is that other people tend to do what they like, not what you think they should like.

But can’t you see how that is detrimental to the new player experience? And the ‘choice’ (or illusion thereof) you speak of is utterly facilitated by ArenaNet’s current game design. So, they are to be held just as responsible, if not more-so, than the player.

If the content were not on such a stringent schedule, players may be more inclined to take their time and, as a result, may not congregate to a single map location every two weeks, to the exclusion of all other content.

May I please use my tickets?

in Queen's Jubilee

Posted by: Elbegast.6970

Elbegast.6970

It’s because people were creating characters, logging in and sending their free tickets to their main character. They would repeat this and get hundreds of tickets for little effort. I imagine it also caused problems for the game engine.

Well technology advances with the times, you can hardly expect them to continue using obsolete crap of 250 years ago in the modern world. We don’t use pinhole cameras when we can just pull out a smartphone and insta-snap now do we?

Yes, of course, pinholes become charged-coupled devices. Wagons become Motor homes. Rafts become luxury yachts. Why, then, in this age of seemingly-miraculous Asuran technology, do we still use cudgels, cleavers, axes and bulwarks? Why are so many forced to cart Dolyaks when there are skyships, teleportation pads, Asura Gates and hot-air balloons?

This doesn’t feel like technological advancement, It feels more like ‘Land of the Lost’ . We have ‘fire good’, chest-thumping cave people living right alongside dinosaurs, zombies, talking plants and Professors of Temporal Mechanics.

Elbegast.6970

Thanks for the feedback everyone and please keep it coming. Personally, I find that one of the hardest parts of being a desginer on GW2 Live is coming to terms with the fact that not every update will please every player. We do our best to deliver appealing content with enough variety to keep as many people as satisfied as possible. And If there’s one thing we can do consistently, it’s improving the experience of said content each time. I think we made some great strides with the Jubilee. I think we have a lot of room to keep growing. But our team isn’t done yet. We’ve got some exciting things coming later this month. Things you’ve never seen in this game before.

But in the mean time, please keep telling us what you’re thinking. We are listening. Not only to what you’re saying but also to what you’re not. The very first living world team actually did the thing some of you have called for. Some 40 or so permanent events were added around the game in our very first content update. They were met with little interest or fanfare. Granted, Halloween may have stolen the show. But those events are still in the game today. I’ve seen very little reaction to them, however, positive or negative. Despite this, there are many events I would still like to add. Many zones and bosses I would love to revisit. As we get better at the living world, I strongly suspect we’ll have room to get around to them as well. Assuming that’s what our players really want. You are all the second half of the collaborative process, so thanks for helping!

I find that I am much less vocal about the areas of the game that I enjoy. Coming to the forums to post compliments seems a frivolous waste of time for all involved. If I am enjoying the game, I am playing it rather than posting here. As a result, when I post my concerns, I am marked as a ‘forum troll’ or a ‘hater’.

The reality is, I love this game. I have played Guild Wars 1 for years and I don’t think I have ever posted a complaint on those forums. My love for the franchise is why I come here and complain. If I didn’t love it, I would say nothing about the aspects that annoy me and I would move on to another game. I see potential here. I also see potential that is being wasted. I see, repeated here, mistakes that other mmos have made a thousand times over. I want Guild Wars to step out and take the lead in innovation. It seems, though, there are currently ‘too many cooks in the kitchen’ .

The ‘Living Story’ storyline is disjointed and incomprehensible. It lacks focus and a clear plot theme. It seems to be completely unrelated to the game’s core content. It seems as if the Living Story writers are attempting to create a virtual, living novel. However, the way a story is conveyed in a novel does not translate well to a mmorpg. By the time the in-game plot is fully revealed, the players will have forgotten most of it and will lose interest.

Many of the living story characters are unremarkable and entirely forgettable. I wasn’t here for the first appearance of Canach and his second appearance did nothing to explain anything surrounding the character, whatsoever. Canach was just some cold, random plot mechanic, akin to the ‘swing away’ Louisville Slugger as was presented in M. Night Shyamalan’s 2002 film ‘Signs’ .
Evon Gnashwho?
Ellen Kiel…oh, that crazy, angry woman from Southsun?
Marjory…evil Mae West?!?! Kitana from Mortal Kombat? Who knows and who cares? She is generic as all get-out.
Lord Kaswhat? Lady Farsomething? Did they even do anything in Southsun?

I don’t like how the entire story isn’t told, exclusively, in-game. I don’t do 3rd party websites, digital short stories or book store novels. I want the entire story to be conveyed entirely in-game. If you want Ree Soesbee to write novels, that’s fine. But make those novels available and readable, in-game.

Currencies are, indeed, out of control. Gold, Laurels, Honor Tokens, Karma…it’s almost overwhelming before even listing any of the Living Story currencies. I would suggest leaving Gold, Laurels, Honor Tokens and Karma as-is and normalizing all Living Story currencies into a single currency. Call it ‘Black Lion Claim Tickets’ or whatever you like but use them as the sole currency for every future living story update; one currency that players can save up throughout the course of any number of content updates and use to purchase any current or previous living story rewards.

Dailies…I hate dailies. I’ve hated dailies since Netherwing Ledge all those years ago. Dailies do nothing to add immersion and seem to be more of a mechanic to lead players out into a game world…a game world they would have no need to venture into otherwise.

Idk, those are just a few of my complaints.

It seems to be a bit brutal, but hey, at the first glance I thought she had actually imprisoned sentient being just for them to be slaughtered by adventurers. When I realized they were just robots, it was a relief.
Still, yes, I would have never expected gladiatorial combat from Jennah.

I’m more concerned with the fact that Anise almost killed Logan. She sure has a cruel sense of humor. What was she trying to prove anyway? I know it wasn’t her fault that the robot stopped obeying her commands, but still, Logan lowered his guard when he saw Rytlock. He hesitated, and that could have killed him even if the robot had not have been tampered with. I’m sure someone as smart and cunning as Anise would know that seeing Rytlock wouldn’t be good for Logan.

The robot stopped following her commands, only when it was destroyed. Until then, it was performing as intended. FYI, Anise is working for the bad guys. It’s blatantly obvious and a terrible use of cliche at that.

EDIT: Oh…and the bad guys are going to wind up being the good guys. It’s another tired cliche that ArenaNet isn’t disguising very well.

It’s lame beyond comparison. Holograms have no place in the Guild Wars universe.

ArenaNet, if you wanted holograms, perhaps you should have created a science fiction game? Instead, you choose to kiel…er…kill the immersion in my fantasy mmorpg.

I’m so sick of sci-fi/steampunk. Guild Wars 2 doesn’t deserve to use the ‘Guild Wars’ name.

We’re cold slither
You’ll be joining us soon
A band of vipers
playing our tune

With an iron fist
and a reptile hiss
we shall rule!

We’re tired of words
We’ve heard it before
We’re not gonna play the game no more

Don’t tell us what’s right
Don’t tell us what’s wrong
Too late to resist
Cause Cobra is strong

We’re cold slither
Heavy metal machine
Through the eyes of a lizard
In you will dream

When the venom stings
A new order brings
Our control

She is already responsible for the genocide of adventures entering the gauntlet and then forces them to walk all the way back up to the gauntlet to die again.

It’s like being a prisoner of war and ascending the steps of the Templo Mayor at Tenochtitlan. You venture up the ramp, knowing that your head will make a hastier retreat than will your body. At least with the Aztecs, you were forced to complete that climb only once.

I for one would love to see something dealing with the Nightmare Court.
Twilight Arbor left it rather open on what happened to the Duchess.

Is it wrong that all three of my characters are Sylvari and I have no clue as to what you are referring. I’ve done the entire personal story, save the last dungeon. I don’t remember ‘Twilight Arbor’ nor this ‘Duchess’ (person?).

Possibly, but I’m not here to judge
I am referring to the story dungeon called Twilight Arbor. Which is basically where a lot of the Nightmare Court reside. The Court is ruled by, or at least influenced by, the Grand Duchess of the Nightmare Court named Faolain.

Oh…Caithe’s girlfriend, right?

“Water 20 trees. Tier 1/4.”
“Prune 20 trees. Tier 1/4.”
“Till 20 mounds of dirt. Tier 1/4.”
“Plant 20 Seeds of the Pale Tree. Tier 1/4.”
“Ask 20 questions. Tier 1/4.”

Better than:

Kill 1/100 enemies x6 times representing different factions…

Ignorance apart, if you have ever bother to read Sylvari’s lore you will realize we have got a lot going on despite being so new;

example of a reward; Caladbog, a beautiful GS sword that has blue and yellow butterflies, mesmers would kill for it.

As for the activities, Anet can get creative and make a minigame sylvari themed, liek they have done with many other minis. Right now most people dont bother with sylvari’s because they have not gotten enough attention. We have so much potential yet most people prefer to play guardian/mesmer humans because thats what they most see in pretty much al the important stories in the game.

Also we gotta do something about the Treaherme Hate, even I playing sylvari dont like how he stole my spotlight

All of my characters are Sylvari, lol. And I’m not sure how I did it, but on my ranger, Treahearne was a nobody in the storyline. He was always in the background. On my thief, however, he was the main character. I wanted to punch him so many times.
