GW1 was completely soloable. GW2 should be as well.
I say a hearty “Nay!” to grouped content. This isn’t 2004. It’s time MMOs moved on.
go play a single player game if you don’t like playing with others
You think in such small terms.
There are people who enjoy seeing other players in the game world but do not enjoy grouping with them. I am one such gamer and there are a great many others like me.
‘MMO’ and ‘Online’ do not automatically mean you are expected to group with others. Go see the first ‘Guild Wars’ for more information.
Yes, it was (and still is). You need to go read the definition of ‘mmo’.
I came to GW2 expecting gameplay similar to GW1 and not a WoW clone. 5 man dungeons are utter garbage. As I have stated many times, if I wanted to run a 5 man, I would have stuck with WoW.
And you need to look up the company that made the game is questions genre for said game.
They have been quite clear that GW1 is not a MMO, and so should everyone else that have actually played it. GW1 is a CORPG (Competitive online role-playing game).
There are no presistent world. All zones (other than the cities/outposts) are completely empty but for your own party. If you came to GW2 expecting GW1 with prettier graphics you clearly didn’t read up on the game before buying it.
I did read up on GW2. Nowhere did it mention that 5 man dungeons would be mandatory to complete the storylines.
I played GW1 for years and never joined a guild or had to group with anyone. I used my Heroes/Henchies for all dungeons.
MMO =/= Group up to complete content
MMO = Seeing other ‘real’ people in the gameworld and nothing more. But then again GW1 wasn’t a MMO either, so that really doesnt count, do it?

Forcing players to group for storyline content is a bad model. My ‘Personal Story’ and ‘Living Story’ are both finished (or rather permanently ‘unfinished’) as I will not group with other players.
I didn’t have to group for anything in GW1. Why should I have to group for content in GW2?
Hello! Thanks for starting this thread. :-)
As one of the designers for the Molten Weapons Facility, I would just like to say that one of our chief concerns throughout the development of Retribution was to address this very issue. We worked hard to ensure that the dungeon experience we have crafted is not simply possible to complete by groups of all different skill levels and compositions, but more importantly that it is lots of fun and rewarding for everyone. I understand the concerns about jumping into a 5-man instance if you’re more accustomed to solo play – in fact as a player I typically share those feelings, so rest assured that such concerns have been and continue to be addressed firsthand by our team!
Flame and Frost has so far made use of many of the different types of content available to players of Guild Wars 2. There have been open world dynamic events, solo instances, scavenger-hunts and achievements. In this case, with the culmination of Flame and Frost, given all the tools in our tool kit as developers, a 5-man instance was really the thing that made the most sense for us to pursue, as it enabled us to best tell the conclusion to this story arc in the way that we wanted.
We’re paying careful attention to this balance of content types, and the Living World teams will always strive to offer a variety of content to our players on a regular basis, and to make that content as compelling, and accessible, as possible.
Speaking personally, I hope you’ll join all of us on the Flame and Frost team and give the Molten Weapons Facility a try when it releases next week!
If I wanted to group for dungeons, I would still be playing WoW.
I never had to group for anything in GW1. I soloed every dungeon with heroes/henchies. Forcing players to group to complete storyline instances is a bad model.
I am seriously considering uninstalling the game and going back to GW1.
And, for the record, ‘MMO’ does not mean you are expected to group up to complete content. It only means that you will see other ‘real’ people in the game world.
GW1 was completely soloable. GW2 should be as well.
I say a hearty “Nay!” to grouped content. This isn’t 2004. It’s time MMOs moved on.
The Molten Weapons Facility is what killed this content for me. I don’t group with other players. I didn’t have to in GW1 and I shouldn’t have to in GW2. The ‘living story’ is now dead to me.
If I wanted to group with others to run dungeons, I would have stuck to playing WoW.
I give ‘Flame & Frost’ a 1/10…and, even then, I feel that I am being overly generous.
And don’t even get me started on those stupid knockback turrets….
The Asura are nothing more than steampunk garbage. They were much better in GW1. Now, they just annoy me with all the stupid technology that should never exist in a fantasy themed mmo.
I played GW1 for years and never joined a guild or had to group with anyone. I used my Heroes/Henchies for all dungeons.

Anet wants you to be an Achiever!
So deal with it.Actually no kidding.
Apparently it´s super complicated to rewrite the UI so it doesn´t annoy you.
It isn’t merely annoying; it blocks off an entire corner of my screen in an obnoxious way that no other UI elements can.
You can click on the title to shrink it.
Or uncheck the achievements that are displayed.
Shrinking it only minimizes it temporarily. It pops right back up whenever I zone or when a dynamic event happens near me.
It is displaying my daily progress, my storyline progress and the ‘Flame and Frost’ event. There is nothing to uncheck.
I just want it gone. It’s extremely annoying as I do not care about any of the information displayed on that Achievement HUD.
How do I remove the Achievement HUD on the top right side of my screen? It blocks my view and is very annoying.
I made a change in the upcoming content update that should make the cowapult much more accessible. We’re still trying to track down the bug causing the NPCs to stall after the event runs (but before the cowapult is usable) but the upcoming change should allow you to use the cowapult unless the event is actively running.
Cattlepult*
Forgive me but I am unable to put much confidence in your responses when you can’t even correctly name the object.
Cattlepult is bugged out on Northern Shiverpeaks realm as well. Stuck at 3/5 tests complete, 2 cows needed, 2 cows alive and the harpies just keep attacking. The Cattlepult is completely unresponsive.
I wish I didn’t have to do a dungeon to finish it, before that it was fun:)
Agreed. I will never run the dungeon so the story is over for me. It’s a terrible feeling not being able to finish the story. I would have liked to see how it all played out.
I don’t get it. I haven’t seen any sign of this ‘living story’ everyone keeps talking about. Everywhere I go it’s the same old world events…over and over again. Nothing changes.
So, where does this ‘living story’ start at?
I liked the idea of zone by zone down-leveling until I actually began to play the game. It seemed like a great mechanic on paper.
Now that I’ve tried it, zone by zone down-leveling has caused me to lose all motivation to progress. There is no sense of accomplishment or pride in my character. It feels like the game has thrown away all my hours of hard work when I pass through a lower level zone, constantly running because I don’t feel like struggling with or being killed by mobs that are half my (true) level.
It doesn’t matter what down-leveling was meant to correct on the technical side, the feeling (a sense of character pride, power, accomplishment) is what matters. And right now, at least to me, it feels absolutely horrible. My character feels weak. I may as well just park him in The Grove and pretend to be a commoner or a merchant.
I see my character gaining numbers (levels) but they don’t make me feel more powerful. The problem is that I am downgraded to the level of the area I am currently in.
Being level 20 and almost dying to two level 9 mobs is a terrible feeling. What is the point in leveling if all that work is negated by zone mechanics?
There are two options that would make the experience feel better.
1. Don’t downgrade my level and allow me to one-shot lower level mobs. In this way, I would actually feel more powerful as I leveled and would feel like my work is being rewarded.
or
2. Remove levels and leveling altogether. Don’t allow me to see that meaningless number that taunts me with every pull. I would rather not see any level number on my character at all than to see the green ‘down’ arrow next to an artificially deflated number.
They need to remove the vault transport altogether. You gamers are getting far too lazy in this day and age. QoL ‘improvements’ make for boring gameplay.
I would also like them to remove waypoints from the game entirely. In my day, there was a thing called ‘traveling’. We did it, on foot, when we needed to go somewhere. Rapid travel is a sick joke and more akin to a ‘cheat code’ than a gameplay feature.
I played GW for years and have never joined a guild. I will play GW2 for years and will, most likely, never join a guild.
I only wish there were a way to completely block all guild invite spam and whispers.
And the point of all this is?
