Initially I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of another festival, but our team took that as a challenge to implement a festival that plays much differently than the others. I think we accomplished that.

So help me Balthazar, if even one achievement/mission/quest is to go smash/kill/find ‘x’ number of anything……..

Well they did post something on Friday saying Kiel was ahead of Evon by about 4%.

Of course they did. 52% to 48%…well within the margin of error for most polling which effectively renders the ‘results’ as dead even. This, in turn, may stimulate one to log more game hours than usual in an attempt to sway the results to the benefit of one’s beloved candidate. Marketing psychology is a fickle mistress.

The proof is in the Facebook tally. It doesn’t take a statistician to realize there is some major fudging of the numbers on that sight. If the election were legitimate, ArenaNet would allow vote counts to be viewable in-game in real time.

So, no proof then?

Having the vote count viewable in real-time would solve nothing, since they could still modify the result if they already decided a winner.
It would also create issues if they found people exploiting and having to remove a certain number of votes and such.

I have proof, Jonathan. I just can’t post it due to legal reasons.

It’s a million times better than GW2. Go for it.

1. GW1 is B2P (buy to play) just like GW2. No sub fees or anything.
2. Yes, you can link a brand new Guild Wars 1 account with a current GW2 account to unlock bonus items at the EotN.
3. Yes, most all of the lore in GW1 is conveyed extremely well within the game (unlike GW2).

Excellent point .. unfortunately I believe the results of the whole voting event was predetermined by Anet and it matters not what we vote. They will make sure that the “right” candidate wins for the fractal they already have built.

With ESO coming out, this game will become another WoW wannabe with some gear grind but no raid content (lol). Anet chose to please the PvE crowd, and they should pay for it dearly.

Some of us like this game, why do folks have to be actively malicious and want it to die?

Stop trying to mess with our fun, and go play a game that’s fun for you.

Also, to folks above, I am a guild wars 1 vet and I like guild wars 2. So do the other vets I know. A few disgruntled folks on the forums don’t speak for all GW1 vets.

I’m a GW1 vet and I absolutely loathe GW2. I loved GW2 until ‘Flame & Frost’. It’s been nothing but garbage ever since.

Why would anyone not like the game after F & F is beyond me, now if you’ve said you liked it until November (with the introduction of Ascended gear) I can understand it, but F & F? Really?

I don’t like being forced to adhere to a gaming schedule to complete temporary living story content. I game on my own time.

I don’t like content of the living story. Steampunk Mole people, Steampunk Charr, Walking Cabbages, Angry Crabs, Flying Pirates, Ballooning Merchants…all very bland and uninspired.

BTW, ascended gear means nothing to me. I don’t chase carrots on sticks, do dailies or group with others for instances/dungeons/fractals.

I loved the game until F&F. I now loathe it due to the ‘Living Story’.

If you dont chase carrots on sticks like you claim why you feel you’re being forced to play the game on a schedule exactly? I can understand to a point people who have to have the carrot thus feeling pressured to complete content in 2 week periods, but if you dont care about the carrot? just log on whenever you log on and play whatever is on offer then! its simple, its not like you’d be confused if you did sky pirates without doing F&F first right? Or just ignore all of the LS if you’re so inclined, do the content you like and thats it, its not like the not so secret jumping puzzle isnt fun unless you followed the sky pirates storyline.

I swear this is beyond puzzling to me. The same game you love is still entirely there. You’re loathing it simply because they’re giving you free stuff every 2 weeks!

They aren’t giving me ‘free stuff’ every two weeks. They are removing content every two weeks.

Just think about it…

52% / 48%…well within the margin of error for polling which essentially renders the results as 50% / 50%.

No in-game method (or any method for that matter) for viewing real-time vote counts.

Do you honestly believe the vote count is so close because of an even split in the player base? Or is it more likely that ArenaNet has produced those numbers out of thin air in order to spawn political debate on the forums and to cause players to log more game time to rally around their candidate?

It just seems like this thread is a magnet for the people who could not get into the game and who could not adapt to the innovation of Gw2. So they come here to vent. Sadly the opinion of those who are no longer playing does not matter because obviously they have moved onto better things.

However…why are they in Gw2 forums? Not all games are for everyones likes but it is pittyful to try bring down the game for people who like it because you do not like it.

Hell hath no fury like a GW1 veteran scorn. If they didn’t want GW1 vets to be upset about GW2, they shouldn’t have used the ‘Guild Wars’ name and they shouldn’t have marketed it as a sequel. ArenaNet brought this upon themselves.

At first I thought this was going to be an unbiased thread given the title and that it was created by a dev. As the OP of this thread shows, it is actually a dev-created thread to promote Evon Gnashblade…which confuses me as there is not a comparable dev-created pro-Kiel thread.

I request that you make your post in its own dev-created, pro-Kiel thread instead of as a sub-comment on a dev-created pro-Evon thread to give the fight for Kiel even footing in this forum.

Cant devs have opinions? On something that’s out of there hands and they’re put into the hands of the players, they are still players and want to see things in the game.

No, they can’t. They are to remain neutral in all matters lest risking the alienation of all or part of the player base. Just Google ‘Horde Favoritism’ for some popular examples of developer bias.

I don’t read your little short stories, ArenaNet, and there isn’t a chance in the Underworld that I will ever buy one of your novels. There was another very popular game that began selling novels to explain the lore and to reveal key plot lines. I don’t play that game anymore because of those cash-grabbing tactics.

As it stands, I haven’t a clue what is happening in-game, in regards to the plot/story and I blame you, ArenaNet.

why do I have a feeling 80% of the ppl voting for kiel only votes for her for the cheaper waypoints?

More likely, the majority of people voting don’t use the site and have no idea what either is actually offering, and simply like the person they know and view as the “good guy”.

Did you know if you talk to Kiel or Evon INGAME you can ask them what they promise?
If people can’t read, it’s their problem, but it’s not an excuse for why Kiel is winning.

Personally I think ppl vote for Kiel because it’s “against RNG boxes” and not really because of cheaper waypoints. On the other hand, most Evon supporters are voting for the fractal, which is more stupid imo, maybe Abaddon sounds better, but it doesn’t mean it will be actually better.

Since we don’t know the true numbers, Anet can chose whichever candidate they want. Maybe they’ll be honest with the election, maybe not. We will never know. The only thing I know for sure that whichever candidate wins, the other party’s biggest supporters will cry and whine about it and will accuse arenanet for cheating…

Of course ANet will cheat. You don’t honestly believe that the players have any real influence on the outcome of this election, do you? The outcome was decided weeks ago. That’s why Facebook’s vote count appears to be so close and why you cannot view the vote count in real time in-game. It’s all a sham meant to draw players into the game to grind for hours upon hours in hopes of deciding the fate of Tyria.

And you guys bought it…hook, link and sinker.

But merchants, crabs, politics, and pirates make for a great story.

How else did “Deadliest Catch” get so popular?

Because the viewers, not-so-secretly, were hoping that a regular cast member would fall overboard or that one of the featured vessels would meet an untimely end at the bottom of the Bering Sea. It had nothing to do with crabs and everything to do with commonplace voyeurism.

No, it’s sci-fi. They can say that ‘magic’ works the waypoints and portals and all that other Asuran technology but the fact is, it’s nothing more than sci-fi garbage. If the Asura used magic, they wouldn’t need laboratories, technological devices, portals and waypoints. Living Story going downhill again

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: Elbegast.6970

Elbegast.6970

Has the living story ever gone uphill? It was implemented and was fun for about 3 hours before I began to become disenchanted.

I stopped doing Flame & Frost because of the Sonic Periscopes and the 5-man Molten Facility ( I don’t group).

I stopped doing Southsun because of the uninspired story (I still don’t know what happened at Southsun or why) and the spawn frequency of over-tuned mobs.

I didn’t even log on for Sky Pirates. I hate pirates. When developers can’t create interesting antagonists, they resort to pirates.

I’ve done a few things at BotFW but nothing related to any story. I’ve mostly just jumped around trying to figure out how to get into places I’m not supposed to be.

Now we have politics. Politicians don’t even like politics. Why would ANet ever think that politics would be great addition to a fantasy video game? I refuse to do any and all of the ‘Cutthroat Politics’ content. I get enough of that crap from Fox News.

So…what’s next? A Canthan Arts District in DR? A personal ‘lazy boy’ instance that will inevitably depopulate the open world. Nobody goes to DR. If content is added to DR, I will not step foot inside.

This whole ‘Living Story’ content feels like a mash-up of poor ideas with no clear direction. It feels very fragmented. Guild Wars desperately needs to return to it’s roots….Magic, Swords, Wizards, DRAGONS, etc. and leave behind all this technomechanical/steampunk/sci-fi/political/pirate fluff.

Where is the story going?

in Living World

Posted by: Elbegast.6970

Elbegast.6970

The stories are connected. You’ll find out more later this year.

If you string out the plot lines for too long, players will lose interest.

What I’ve gotten from the ‘Living Story’ so far:

Some power hungry Charr teamed up with some underground mole people (seriously? mole people?!?! O.o) in order to wreck Kryta for some reason. A walking Cabbage (Canach- who is ‘Canach’ anyway? And why should I care?) went to some random resort island (seriously?!?! a resort island?!?! what happened to fantasy?) and got some crabs angry for some reason. Pirates showed up and killed someone for some reason. Then some random merchants came on a flying boat and sold us stuff for some reason.

I have no idea what is happening in this game. I could talk for hours about the lore and story of GW1 but this new GW2 ‘story’ is just page 6 tabloid filler.

I honestly don’t see how you are planning to tie the story together in any sort of coherent and meaningful fashion. It’s so utterly fragmented as to be nonexistent.

People who clearly haven’t paid any attention to the story shouldn’t complain about it.

It’s not that I haven’t paid attention to the story. It’s just that the story is not conveyed very well in-game. I don’t go to ANet blogs or 3rd party websites to read up on the Living Story. I don’t buy or read books based on the game. The story…the ENTIRE story should be told exclusively in-game and in a way that is easy for those unfamiliar to GW lore to comprehend.
