I agree wholeheartedly, It’s the gameplay of the queen’s jubilee, combined with story that matters <3

I do that too zypher, it’s nice for small groups, fighting the elites and saving people away from the zerg, though you have to not mind about missing out on the loot. I guess it’s true heroism

I saw no story at all with this update. Is there an instance somewhere that I am missing?

Three attempts are my limit. If I can’t kill a new boss in three attempts, I turn my focus to preventing others from completing the content. A single player with a proper strategy can shut down an entire group on Tequatl, Marionette and Wurm. Going by your example I could simply state that I am forcing those players to become better by making their event far more difficult than need be. It’s a win for everyone, right?

Wow.

This just made every statement in every forum you ever made invalid.

You are just plainly: a horrible person.

I take it you missed the entire reason I posted this on the public forums for everyone to see? I am trying to get ArenaNet to look long and hard at their exploitable mechanics so that they do not repeat the same mistakes in the future. An event should never be designed so that one person can completely ruin it for hundreds of others.

And for the record, I’m actually a very nice person once you get to know me. I don’t like seeing others suffer, needlessly, to preventable causes. The griefing on Marionette could have been prevented had the developers simply looked at the mechanics from a griefer’s point of view…..a point of view which I am attempting to provide them through my forum posts.

May I ask what you gain from that behaviour?

Are you so bad a loser that if you cannot gain a lead in a board game right away, you’ll just try to ruin it for everyone else, too?

It’s fun. There isn’t very much solo content this update so I have to create my own. And this isn’t a turn based board game. That’s a very poor example. I’m just bringing a little sandbox love into the world of Tyria. Player-created content and what have you.

If you think what I do is bad, I would shudder to see you in a real sandbox mmo, such as Eve Online. A game where taking players hostage, extortion, exploiting, joining corporations (guilds) in order to tear them apart from the inside through lies and deceit are all considered valid PvP play styles.

My only hope is that while making us strive to be just a little better, ANet takes into consideration that there are players such as we see here among us. And I must thank you for letting yourself be know so as the developers can see that there are some that will go to such lengths to diminish the enjoyment of others.

I actually agree with you and many others who share the same sentiment. The mechanics of future events need to be closely scrutinized in order to diminish the chances of someone like me disrupting the game play of hundreds of other players. I will always look for weaknesses in the mechanics and strategies of new events. It’s just something I do. I never use hacks or anything but if ArenaNet gives me a way…a mechanic that allows me to disrupt an event, I will take full advantage.

or Role-Playing a villain.

I like to role-play an evil Sylvari employed by Scarlet Briar. I often attempt to disrupt events such as Marionette and Tequatl. I never revive downed players but rather laugh at them and mock them. Sometimes, I even kite aoe mobs to downed players just to kill them. If anyone asks me about events or spawn timers, I often intentionally lead them astray by giving them misinformation. I’ve stolen countless Siege Golems and Repair Hammers on the Marionette event. Though I tend to warn the Marionette group well in advance of my intentions, they are rarely able to stop me. Another one of my favorite ways to spread misery is to intentionally start dynamic events which disrupt other events and player actions in the immediate area….such as starting the event at Mabon Market in Caledon Forest which renders the crafting tables completely useless.

And above all, in map chat, I am very vocal about my evil intentions. I am very keen to inform my enemies of their impending doom at mine own hands.

So, does anyone else role-play a bad guy? How do you do it?

Team members here already monitor those subforums that are relevant to their work, the suggestions subforum required them to look in multiple places and comb through unrelated suggestions to find those that were relevant to them. We feel that focusing suggestions into the relevant places, team members are more likely to read suggestions that they may be able to act upon.

You should tell the mods to actually read the posts they move. Just the other day, a post dealing with Living World zerg events was moved to the WvW forum. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with WvW.

And if there are any mods who do not play the game, they should be let go from ArenaNet in favor of those who actually do know what is going on with the game.

Elbegast.6970

I have never really understood “issues” like these.
I have yet to use dulfy or other sites a single time, and yet I have completed the meta events for every single Living Story, so clearly it is fully possible to do so.

The main issue is that todays gamers seems to be under the illusion that they should guided through every single step of the way rather than figure it out themselves.

Back in the days before the internet (or at least before it was not widespread) people still managed to complete games (which were often much harder than todays games for that matter) without having someone tell them exactly what to do.

I’m all for exploring and putting the clues together yourself. I never go to 3rd party websites for anything. I despise them.

That being said, this type of ‘trial-and-error’ exploration does not mesh well with the fleeting, temporary content of the living story. You may have no trouble finding the time to figure things out but not everyone can be so fortunate.

I don’t like having to beg others to carry me through content. If I can’t do it alone, then I just won’t do it.

Then quit the game. This is a team or guild based game, very little of the game is by yourself. You need to quit your ego and join a group.

Feel free to PM me and I’ll walk you through some of the common group content and why people find it fun. Otherwise, you may be in the wrong game.

Forgive me but I don’t believe I will take you up on that offer, based on your first paragraph.

GW2 marketed itself as a game casual players could enjoy. A game where you didn’t have to form a party to complete content. You could just jump right in to an event and get rewarded at the end. Somewhere along the line they began steering away from that model and now this game may as well be WoW. It feels the same to me.

Instances will Reduce World Event Overflow

in Living World

Posted by: Elbegast.6970

Elbegast.6970

I think we can all agree that the overflow system needs to be reworked in the near future, whether it be a system akin to GW1’s districts or (as suggested) a private overflow for large groups.

However, locking these events in instances would really hurt the casual players. (For the most part) Casuals just turn up at these events, get carried or maybe are invited into groups, possibly a teamspeak server, and can just play.
By instancing this content they have to specifically seek out large groups/guilds to play which for a lot of people is just a hassle.
And this will mean, a raidfinder and instant group invite systems are not far away.

Except that ‘casuals’ (whatever that means) are hurting the players who want to complete this content. The content isn’t tuned for low level stragglers. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard commanders say in map chat “If you are low level or aren’t serious about beating this boss, please consider a map change so that others who want the AP can come in.”

Now, for the record, I loathe this content. I absolutely despise everything about it. So, I say that low level players should swarm to Lornar’s very early and give those Commanders the good ol’ comeuppance they deserve.

You might be the worst sort of person. Based on your comment, that’s the idea I’m getting. Spiteful for the sake of spite.

Commanders are doing this because it’s a frustrating enough event as it is. The comeuppance they deserve? For what? For trying to coordinate a a blob (comprised of probably 30-40% terribad players) to victory?

Without these commanders or skilled players there, trash players would never stand a chance at this content. Not everyone has 4-6 hours to spend here daily.

The fault is with Arena Net for not making content like this instanced. They should stop trying to force us to play with people who are not going to be on board with the conditions for victory. It’s like forcing a basketball team to draft 50% of the team from people that don’t want to practice and will only play with their eyes shut the whole game.

The fact that it’s necessary to kick out low levels and non-contributors means there is something very wrong with these events, not the commanders. It should either be accessible and a joke, like all open world content, or difficult and instanced so that people can properly coordinate and strategize independently.

I don’t want my success in this event to be contingent on a lv 50 first time player who doesn’t know what the dodge roll is.

First off, I’m not the one asking the low level players to get lost from a low level map that they are perfectly entitled to be in. The Commanders are. You can call me whatever you like but being asked to leave a zone by a higher level player cannot feel very good to the new players. And that rests squarely on the hands of the aforementioned Commanders.

Secondly, I agree with you. This content should have been instanced. I loathe seeing open world raid bosses, especially of this difficulty. I left WoW to get away from that type of content. At least in WoW most of that type of content was instanced.

So, what shall we name our new wurm? :)

But you don’t have to beg.
It is an mmo, not a solo game.

Going on to main map, and saying, ~want to x dungeon, first time in it~ Is not begging, you’ll often get a couple of other who, it’s also first time for. And maybe one or two, that like the idea of running through it with noobs, who will often take it easy and take their time or what not.

I think by not involving other players….you’re missing the point of an mmo.

If I have to engage other players to help me do content that I’m too weak to complete, that is, essentially, begging for a handout. It doesn’t matter how neutral the request is worded, it’s still begging. I would rather endlessly fail or not even participate in the content than to kiss the boots of four other players. I like seeing other players in the game world. I just don’t like grouping with them.

Scarlet was a huge success

Posted by: Elbegast.6970

Elbegast.6970

The Living Story is a huge succes. Scarlet as a character still sucks beans. But at least the rest is now good enough to compensate the still totally unbelievable unrealistic villan.

I do believe everyone here is excited to see her story put to an end; which is exactly what the goal was.

I am, though not because I love the character.

How’s she unbelievable and unrealistic? She’s the only Villain i’ve ever seen who doesn’t tell everyone and their grandma her kittening motives AND her plan, nor does she have an obvious secret layer everyone seems to know the location of for some reason…

Apparently she’s also the richest and most influential person in all of Tyria. Why, her industrial parks alone must stretch for hundreds of miles in all directions. The only way to keep something like that hidden is on a rather large moon or perhaps in a parallel pocket universe.
