what I find worse is this message isn’t even in game, you have to go to this website to read it. What should of happened is firstly it should of been in game, and a cutscene to nicely wrap up this chapter.

Personally I would’ve liked to of received a message in the mail to visit the queen at her throne room (even better another room in her palace we haven’t seen yet) There you see all the representatives from each of the races to discuss these attacks. And we discover something new to help drive the story into the next chapter, doesn’t have to be much – just a hint.

I can’t agree enough with the message being conveyed in-game. I hate being forced to go to websites to learn about the game’s story.

We’re currently working on a system that will better direct players through Living World content. Eventually, it will also provide story context for LW and other content types. The first phase of the system should be ready before the end of the year.

That should have shipped with the initial release of the living story. That system should have been designed before the living story content was even written.

Are you skrittin kidding me? That’s it?!?!

So, Queen Jennah hypes up a speech which is given, not by her, but, by a Mesmer’s clone. Then, when the dust settles, she says that she has said all she needed to say?!?!

I really can’t comprehend what people’s problem is here. I’m failing to understand why in the world you would want to go discover every single recipe if you know for a fact that you know the recipe and can produce the weapon/armor/etc at any given time. He stated that he doesn’t care about the XP, then why go through all the trouble of doing it?

If it’s not on my list, then I don’t know the recipe. If it’s on my list, then I know the recipe and I don’t have to worry about it. It’s as simple as that.

I don’t care about XP either. I do care about my crafting list being ripped away without my permission. I care about my gold and materials being wasted and not returned. I would rather have no crafting professions at all than to have my work, gold and materials negated at the whim of development team.

To the people complaining that the rewards for fighting Tequatl is likely to be insufficient if he’s too hard, if the revamped Dragon encounters instead gave guaranteed EXOTICS instead of Rares, would you consider it worth the effort?

I wouldn’t consider it worth the effort even if it dropped a guaranteed precurser along with an ascended item. I’m not swayed by rewards.

You dont know that people will never kill Tequatl because nobody exept for 60 People fought the new Version with a hard handicap. ( They all had Cleric Gear and other handicaps ) In fact they fought the real hard mode of the new Tequatl and for us, it will be easier because we wont have handicaps.
Just admit it. All you want is free loot, nothing more.

I don’t care about loot. You could give me a guaranteed ascended item at the end of every fractal and I still would not run the fractal. I chased those carrots on sticks for 8 years in WoW. I am done with the chase.

I know human nature and I know that people who scream for a challenge don’t really mean what they say. Humans, if given a choice, will always take the path of least resistance. If they fail at Tequatl, they will rapidly move on to something else. I hate being right about these things, I really do.

Be happy then, because you are wrong. Thinking that everyone acts the same is foolish. Why would anyone play Dark Souls if nobody really wants a challenge?

BOOM!

Well, hello there Dargo. Long time, no see. =D

I do hope I am wrong about Tequatl but my track record is impeccable. I have a 6th sense for failed content.

The so called next generation mmo uses an old generation 32bit client. So it doesn’t matter if you have 32gb of ram because Gw2 will only use 2gb max.

You do realize the limitation for 32-bit is 4GB, right?

Operating systems take 1-2 gigabytes by itself, therefore increasing the consumed ram would actually break a large group of computers that run under 32 bit.

I honestly don’t even know why Microsoft continues to produce 32-bit operating systems. Most modern processors are 64-bit compatible and everyone should be running 64-bit anyway.

Also I have been increasing in framerate, especially when they removed culling. They’ve done a fantastic job on performance updates for one year.

[/quote]

Many new mobile devices and netbooks still only have single core, 32-bit processors.

Why 80 players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Elbegast.6970

Elbegast.6970

I’m willing to bet someday when people get really good at him, less than 80 people will be able to pull it off, that tends to be how anything works in an MMO. It’s balanced for 80 average players though though and scales up into the hundreds because we want to make epic, large scale encounters available to players out in the open world. We’ll have a mix of a lot of different types of encounters as we continue to update our boss and world encounters, but Tequatl specifically is intended to go for the epic scale.

The idea is we’re going to make him hard, and require a lot of players, he needs to have rewards that make that time worthwhile. In the next update the same philosophy will apply to the karka queen, who will get a bump to her rewards as well given her difficulty; her base line player number is much lower than 80.

Extra bonus info: The highest chance of having a rare chance ascended weapon for you is on Tequatl’s daily bonus chest if you defeat him: game on.

You are aware that with this change, Tequatl will go the way of the Karka Queen. People will attempt Tequatl a time or two, fail the event and will never go back to that encounter again. It doesn’t matter what quality of loot he drops. People don’t want to bang their heads against their desks. People want to succeed. WoW tried something very similar with ‘Oondasta’. It was a colossal failure.

So wait, the problem here seems to be everyone likes to have a full list of every exotic craftable in their little tab? You’re complaining because of your Uber-OCD? Sounds like your problem. You can still craft them in the discovery tab, so all this really does is not make them show up.

No, we are complaining because it cost us a Metrica ton of gold to discover those recipes (more gold than the exotics were worth) and now we have to spend even more gold (because inflation sucks) to relearn them.

What’s making you “relearn them”? You can still craft them via the discovery tab, what’s the big deal about having them discovered? OCD?

Nothing is forcing me to ‘relearn them’. As a matter of fact, I choose not to relearn them. My largest complaint is that the gold and materials I’ve wasted, to learn them initially, is not being refunded. You can say ‘you got the exotic from learning them, that’s your reward’ but the exotic was worth far, far less than the components required to make it. I feel cheated, violated and extremely disappointed.

Yea, they should remove them sometime in the future. If they do, I would assume lost orrian jewelry boxes would just give a random amount of karma once opened.

It would be a prime opportunity to revamp the rewards from the Lost Orrian Jewelry boxes….more random minis, chances at exotics or even a very rare chance for an ascended item.

I’m laughing so hard at this. I can barely get 20 people for Teq on a good day. How can Anet expect me to gather 80 people on a server that barely has that many? Please Anet, for the love of all that is good in this game, think when you come up with new ideas for raids/dungeons/pve! Think about the servers with a low population that probably don’t even have 80 people on them.

They expect people from lower activity servers to guest to higher activity servers, so they can shove some of the server “residents” into overflow.

‘Guesting’ is more of a band-aid than a solution. I guested, only once, to another realm to complete Flame & Frost when the secret messages weren’t spawning on my realm. Guesting was horrible and felt more like a cheat code or exploit than an intended game mechanic. I WILL NEVER GUEST TO ANOTHER REALM AGAIN!

If you don’t look forward to what they are going to put out, you’re whole life is just going to be disappointment. Get happy about what’s coming not down about how it isn’t exactly what you would like just yet. Very few times will anything ever be exactly how you would like it to be fellers, come to terms with that and you’ll do just fine little butterflies.

There was a time when I looked forward to new content. I was excited when I would see that launcher downloading new data. However, after being disappointed by the Living Story releases time and time and time again, I have learned to loathe the content before it’s even released. And it’s not that I had some high expectations for the content releases. I merely took ArenaNet at their word and was sadly let down when they failed to deliver on their own stated design goals.

People don’t want a challenge. They want to succeed. It’s human nature to take the path of least resistance. I left World of Warcraft because of this raid-mentality nonsense and now it’s invading Guild Wars 2.

I haven’t read a bigger pile of nonsense since my days in L2 forums. The fact you dont like a challenge and want just item to be given because you went somewhere, or just log in perhaps is sad itself, but that you claim people dont want it? Dude it’s one of best revamps, and one really needed and anticipated, in the entire game. Exactly what we want. Challenging, tactical, requiring lots of cooperation and special things being done. You want to go and use autoattack on afk for 10min to kill boss? Yea, really pro game. It’s just what everyone is lookin for. It’s like playing quake only your enemy don’t have weapon and is stationary. I cannot believe people are actually whining about this game becoming more challenging in proper ways…… incredible…

You will understand when you are standing in Lion’s Arch, spamming for a Tequatl group and getting nothing but trolls and crickets for responses. Just you wait and see. It will be the least farmed world boss in Guild Wars 2.

This endeavor, by ArenaNet, is doomed to fail. After the change, many realms will never stand a chance of defeating Tequatl. People don’t want a challenge. They want to succeed. Revamping old bosses is not my idea of compelling content. I will not be participating in killing Tequatl the Sunless any longer. I remember another game that spent a lot of resources to revamp it’s old content. As a result, it cost that gaming company 2 million+ subscriptions in less than 3 months.

I would much prefer ArenaNet spent those resources designing completely new and permanent content.

I would like to step in and offer a compromise for all the Completionists. The main reason for this complaint is that you’ll no longer have a crafting screen that’s full, am I correct? If this is the case, there’s a solution that can save you from having to repurchase all the materials from the TP – Screencaps!

A lot of the players who are complaining have nothing to gain from filling their crafting screens, save for the feeling of knowing you did it. So by taking a screencap of your achievements of perfect crafting discoveries, you’ll be able to still enjoy that feeling, even after the discoveries are reset.

My complaint isn’t that my crafting screen is no longer full. My complaint is that we have spent a ton of gold and materials to learn those recipes. Those recipes are being taken away and our gold and materials are not being refunded.

How can you not understand why we are upset? We are out gold, time and materials.

Okay, I have an idea, Mr. Penguin. Give me your gold and your T6 crafting materials. You can take a screencap of them before you send them, so you will still be able to enjoy them after they are gone.

No, you still have the crafted item. That’s what you dumped your gold on.

I paid far more for the materials needed to discover the recipe than the exotic would sell for on the Trading Post. That recipe is now being ripped away and I will be forced to spend even more gold to relearn it. Do you understand that? The ‘crafted item’, as you put it, means far less to me than having the recipe in my crafting tab.

That seems like a compulsion. An unhealthy one. The words do nothing for you, contribute nothing to a title or achievement points. No one will ever know except for you, and it seems a bit silly to get that worked up over those words on the screen. Bottom line is this is beneficial for everyone involved, and outside of people with weird compulsions, there is no negative.

There is a negative…a huge one. I have lost gold and I have lost a lot of it. I wouldn’t be so upset if ArenaNet would reimburse my material expenses for my soon-to-be-missing discoveries.

So here is what I want to know: You know what the recipe is, and you can re-combine things if you ever need it again. So what do you actually lose? The words on your screen saying the recipe name? What is actually lost?

I lost gold, lots of gold, to purchase those words on my screen. Those words are now being taken away and I have nothing to show for it. If I want those words back, I have to pay much more gold than before, due to this horrible Clockwork Chaos zergfest inflated economy.

I also feel violated. ArenaNet is taking away something that I worked for and was proud to have accomplished. Instead of taking something away (which makes me feel like I’ve been robbed) they could have just left the discoveries intact and retroactively given me the experience (which, psychologically speaking, would make me feel that I was being rewarded rather than punished).

If you guys go through with this change, you need to reimburse your players with a ton of gold or T6 crafting mats. No one enjoys having their hard work and progression wiped away at the whim of a game developer. This is a great example of how to turn loyal customers away from the game.

Queen's Jeenah Speech: Major Revelation?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: Elbegast.6970

Elbegast.6970

I’m a little surprised at how many of these threads are popping up so I’ll answer this one for those who don’t get it. Note that it’s not as interesting when you have to explain it.

The Queen’s Speech was a ruse. Anet vandalized and defaced the Queen’s Speech page over time, ultimately revealing the actual content release to be Clockwork Chaos. There is no speech. In-game, Jennah was going to give a speech, but it gets interrupted right at the start, in the cutscene with Lord Faren. So the speech was effectively canceled by Scarlet’s attack on the Pavilion, as hinted at by the vandalizing of the release page.

So, what was the ‘big revelation’?

The identaty of Scarlet and her being behind most of what has happened in the living story so far I assume
Which isn’t really much of revelation since we’ve never meet her before anyway…as far as I know. I did miss some of the LS.

That’s not much of a revelation. It was like being handed a huge carton of ‘Moose Tracks Ice Cream’ and opening it to reveal that the contents were nothing but overcooked brussel sprouts.

Oh, it gets better. Read this:

See my signature for a preview.

After reading that article, I’m not sure that Mike O’Brien is playing the same game that I am. Everything he describes is completely foreign to my gaming experience with Guild Wars 2. It feels as if he is completely disregarding all negative feedback and is trying to put a media spin on the game in order to sugar-coat the current ‘Living World/Story’ model.

“The Living World isn’t changing anything or adding anything of permanence to the game. The game feels the same as the day it shipped” – The Player

“Oh it’s added plenty of permanent things. It’s added so much that players are asking us to slow down content releases. Players don’t say that about other mmos. Trust me, the game is super awesome and ever changing. You just didn’t notice all of the changes because you are playing rather than thinking. You just keep on mashing buttons and let us do the thinking, okay?” – Mike O’Brien (not his words, mind you. Just my personal interpretation of the above interview)

Those interviews just feel rather condescending to the players. It’s as if ArenaNet is telling us that we aren’t enjoying the game because we are playing it wrong.

Queen's Jeenah Speech: Major Revelation?

in Clockwork Chaos

Almost nothing said in that article is true. The Living Story has added virtually nothing to the game. I, as a player, do not feel that my choices have any permanent impact on the gameworld whatsoever.

After reading that article, I am angry, disappointed, confused and very uneasy about the future direction of the game. I probably shouldn’t have read that article. I would be much happier right now.

The pink ‘YOLO’ hat had better not make it’s way to the Gem Store.

I wonder if we could, maybe, get a ‘good’ dragon? One that would help us battle against the others? Of course, players will say that it’s just playing us in order to wipe out the competition so it could be THE alpha dragon. However, it could make for a very interesting boss mechanic….ride on it’s back for an aerial showdown against another dragon.
