You could not pay me enough to own a mini-pet named ‘Mr. Sparkles’. The name is completely lame, uninspired and is condescending to the game, the lore and everything the franchise stands for.
Why is it that a villain like Kefka can get away with being one-dimensional and still be appreciated, but Scarlet, guilty of far less, cannot?
It’s because ArenaNet put an entire year’s worth of content on Scarlet Briar’s shoulders. Unfortunately, her character is so thin as to buckle beneath the weight.
I don’t get it.
I think you guys are reading wayyyy too much into this. Scarlet is one-dimensional. She is a reflection of the writer who bore her ‘life’. Her entire story was conceived during the course of a single lunch break, over a slice of half-eaten pepperoni pizza and a watered-down grape soda. If the character’s writer doesn’t even care about Scarlet Briar, why should you?
And Sylvari do not have ‘saplings’.
I think my sylvari character has been called “sapling” many times in game by other sylvari. Or if my memory got mixed up, several sylvari definitely did call another sylvari “sapling”.
I only play Sylvari and have never heard a ‘sapling’ reference. I have 3 Sylvari, currently.
What are you rambling on about?
something it seems you are blind enough to grasp but dont worry, soon when you grow older you will remove your blindfold.
@OP if i were you id give up on Story writters it seems they are not payed enough and fanboys will white knight them saying its “lighthearted content”.
or … they were cast under a spell! booo Sorcery!!!!!
How old do I need to be? I, unlike most of my other contemporaries, remember the 1970s. And what is meant, exactly, by ‘blind enough to grasp’?
What are you rambling on about?
EDIT: And Sylvari do not have ‘saplings’.

Oh, wow. That’s a wonderful story! Scarlet is such an intriguing being. She reflects a desire in all of us… the desire to create, the desire to know, the desire to master. She is so utterly “human” in her visions and impressions, it makes her very relatable and yet starkly different at the same time. The whole story has, at least to me, a deep sort of spirituality which I find admirable. And in the end, I feel bad for Scarlet. She is so smart, but she’s let her pride drive her to think she’s above everything. Her view of the Pale Tree and destiny, while factually accurate, is deeply flawed. I think when she truly sees the light and the darkness she has readily scorned, she’ll come to realize her own folly.
I applaud you, Arenanet. Scarlet is a wonderful character! I love how you’ve twined her actions throughout the entirety of our stories, and I love how you’ve portrayed her as a person with flaws as deep as her intellect.
You have a very active imagination.
Something to consider is that this update is designed to be long lasting. The grind is getting old at this moment since everyone is busy doing it on repeat, after this next week and a half passes, the invasions will slow considerably.
Which is what people wanted – recurring, repeatable open world content. I consider a grand invasion to be a step up from adding just another claw, or SB.
No, that’s not what we wanted at all. We wanted more zone-by-zone storytelling through chained dynamic events….events that would have a permanent and visible impact on the zone and it’s surroundings.
What we got, instead, with this update was nothing more than a rolling zerg on an hourly schedule.

Haven’t read this yet, but I figured anyone who would post here likely cares a great deal about the lore so I figured I’d inform you of it.
I care a great deal about the lore but if it isn’t in-game, I’m not reading it. I’m don’t support this kitten poor extra-game storytelling.
We need this in game!!!!
It’s the motivation players need!!
I say this in every new LS chapter: You need to incorporate stories IN GAME.
Its the STORY part of the Living Story. We have the living, we need the story! This brings all the sense to the game.
I am even mad.
I completely agree. Every time I see a new short story on the GW2 website, I want to cut the tails off baby Skritt or drop some Asuran prodigy from a very tall cliff.
I hate that they publish these stories on the website and explain ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in-game.
No. She is in love with power.
I scrolled down through the pictures but I can’t be bothered to read the story. If it were in-game, I would read it.
I don’t understand what the big deal is. It’s just some silly Skritt, right? Let the Germans have their rats.
It’s not a skritt..

Have you played the game or did you just ignore Asura in general? How do you not know who Mr. Sparkles is…
I don’t play Asuran characters. I don’t much cotton to sci-fi in a medieval fantasy mmorpg. If it were up to me, the Asura would have gone extinct in the 250 years since Guild Wars 1.
Who’s Scarlet and why should I care?
That’s my take on the one-dimensional character.
I just want to remind folks again, the features and content you’d traditionally find in an expansion will absolutely be added to Gw2. The thing we haven’t decided is what form the release of that content would be presented in, be it a traditional expansion, living world, or some other form.
No…not through the Living World! The Living World needs to DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE!
I feel insulted when they mail me stuff. Like the WvW experience booster, for example. 50% for 15 minutes?!!? Absolutely useless. I would feel less insulted if they just came out and called me ‘stupid’ to my face.
Elbegast, I so hope you’re trolling..
Unfortunately, no, I’m not. I only wish there were a ‘report’ option on that mail. I didn’t ask for charity and if I were to, I surely would not be asking for such a useless item.
im afraid to look up the name of the voice actress since maybe it doesnt relate her voice
I see things like Squirrel Girl in MH (looking forward to that), but I don’t see anything specific for Guild Wars 2?
The page just hasn’t been updated. Scarlet is, indeed, voiced by Tara Strong.
Check near the bottom of the page for her GW2 credit as Scarlet Briar:

EDIT: She also voices ‘Harley Quinn’ in ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’. Coincidence?
(edited by Elbegast.6970)
It’s useless junk. ArenaNet slaps us in the face with such insults.

Sylvari do not have a ‘childhood’.
You cant access the event after ten minutes.
I join the battle at the beginning of every hour and I’ve only been able to access the event 3 times in the past 3 days. Out of those 3 times, a new build booted me early, a disconnect booted me early and the third time was a Scarlet kill but no progress was credited on the meta achievement.
If it’s still labeled as “Suggested: 5 players”, I won’t be running it.
im afraid to look up the name of the voice actress since maybe it doesnt relate her voice
nope, not clicking
Your loss. She’s really cute.
No,lol. Do people still do Orr?
It’s hard to spread out the marbles when the developers keep tilting the box to one corner every couple weeks.
It takes a strong person to admit they were wrong. I only wish ArenaNet would do it as well. I loved this game until the Living Story reared it’s ugly head. Now, I have learned to loathe the new content before it’s even released. ‘Fool me twice, shame on me’ and what not.
What I love about this event is that failure is a possibility.
You must have a different definition of ‘failure’ than my own.
Do the zones stay populated with pirates and steam mechs after the event fails?
Do enemy reinforcements arrive with materials to build a forward base of operations if the event fails?
Do players go unrewarded if the event fails?
This is a VERY important point. Something like this should be clarified in the patch notes. In bold.
Actual release note:
All overflow maps created within 10 minutes of the start of the invasion will host a concurrent version of that hour’s event.
Except that the player has no way of telling when an overflow was created. They join within the 10 minute time limit, get into an overflow and…..nothing…..“return to your home world”, etc.
So, what do you have to say about that?
im afraid to look up the name of the voice actress since maybe it doesnt relate her voice
IRL = Pepperidge
In-Game = None of them. Farming is terrible. I won’t be a part of it.
It’s not exactly ‘infinite’ if it has a duration.
I don’t understand what the big deal is. It’s just some silly Skritt, right? Let the Germans have their rats.

Mr. Sparkles? Is that a Skritt or something? Sounds lame.
Oblivion portals caused me to completely skip the main storyline in TES IV. They were stupid, pointless and extremely annoying.
Portal spawns during the Elemental Invasion caused me to take a very, very long break from World of Warcraft. I skipped the entirety of the Cataclysm expansion.
Dwayna help me, if I see even one Clockwork portal spawn after this Living Story chapter is over…
patience young tyrian. we will get our answers soon
I somehow doubt that. I see no possible way to tie these disjointed living story ‘chapters’ together…unless ‘time travel’ and that’s just tired.
If you are downed, it counts against you. I agree, the tooltip is stupid and misleading.
How about a Hobo-tron plushie in the BLTP?
No, how about a Hob-o-tron Finisher move?
He could jump on a player and then say something like:
You-had-better-find-a-new-job.
Hobo-Tron took his job?

I’ve loved it so far – the only complaint I have is NPCs referring to Divinity’s Reach as “DR” in dialogue…. that’s extremely immersion breaking, to be honest. Otherwise fantastic event!
Why? We use initials like that in real life e.g. LA and KL. I don’t see why Tyrians wouldn’t do the same.
Mostly because it’s all of the sudden. Never in the history of the game until now has an NPC referred to Lion’s Arch as LA, for example, (though players do) – or BC, or RS – it’s the same with Divinity’s Reach; never before now has it happened in game (or in the fiction as far as I’ve read). And it wasn’t just Scarlet, I’m pretty sure I heard Rox and/or our new asura sidekick do it too.
It just felt like poor editing on the scripts before they got to the voice actors is all. (i.e. it was meant to be Divinity’s Reach, but was shorthanded while writing, and never got changed in editing – pure conjecture, but that’s what it feels like.)There actually is a precedent here: Lord Faren referred to Divinity’s Reach as “ol’ DR” several times while he was on Southsun Cove.
And as everyone knows, he’s a trend-setter.
Who?
I’m sorry. I must have missed that part of the story, whilst in Southsun. I remember people standing around, crabs and something about getting a back piece but this “Faren” guy doesn’t ring a bell.
Aetherblade Dragon anyone?
Aetherdrakes? Sounds familiar for some reason.
she’s a bitt chubby for a silvari
maybe she binges on candies to balance the stress of trying to so hard to be evil
and u guys calling her a villain sue aint helpin her relax!
She is the worst kind of Sylvari….a vegetarian. I shudder to think about it.
The portal device is a gold sink. Enjoy being broke.
Clones. That is all. Good day.
It’s funny how people assume we’ll know everything about the villain in the first chapter, and when we naturally don’t, they call it weak writing. Some people have no patience for storytelling.
Grab a book. Read one sentence every two weeks and then, once read, promptly rip that sentence from the book and throw it into a fire. That’s the problem with storytelling in the Living Story. By the time we have a resolution to a story, we have lost interest or have completely missed key plot points due to their removal from the game.
Well, that and the poor writing. I haven’t seen writing this bad since the Star Wars prequels.
More whining ….
sigh
I see from your previous posts that your are pretty good at it, yourself. Is it hard for you to come up with additional characters so that you will exceed the 15 character requirement for posting?
The forums are here so that we may ‘whine’ to our heart’s content. If you don’t enjoy it, I would suggest avoiding the forums. I, for one, enjoy reading the posted complaints. It’s good to see consumerism in action.
The first appearance of DC’s ‘Joker’ was in Detective Comics #168 from 1951. Rather than being named ‘Joker’, he instead appeared as the first incarnation of the ‘Red Hood’.
And?
I’m sorry. If you can’t see the connection then I can’t help you. Perhaps you should read more comics?
I tried it in LA jumping puzzle in the dark room and it did not light up any surroundings, they remained completely dark. So this item is apparently useless, pretty disappointing.
The odd thing is that it DOES light up surroundings when I’m in LA in the town area that is bright anyway. Then I can clearly see it making the floor a little bit brighter.
My ‘Flames of Kryta’ works just fine in the dark room. It lights up all my surroundings. I can now grie…er…fight people in the dark room without stumbling all the way back in the dark.
