The Gobbler gives you one or the other. Either a transformation or a buff. That’s intended.
If you’re saying you got nothing from any one use, then that would be a bug. But getting a transform instead is intended.
I’d rather just have them give the male version butterflies too, but I know that hoping for changes to existing armors (even ones newly introduced) is in vain.
You need to actually talk to the NPCs once you clear out the enemies. Doing that will make them leave the area and run towards the base, and once they’re running they’re pretty much home-free (I’ve never seen them die once they start going, anyway).
And there’s actually 4 spots where you need to save people.
Well, if he gets too annoying, you could always click to hide him, that should stop him from talking.
I guess ask yourself this. Do you get tired of your character giving his Swiftness or Retaliation line? If that hasn’t found a way to torment you over your playing time, you’ll probably be safe with Job-o-Tron.
That’s a good point. And yah, I don’t really get bothered by that kind of chatter at all, in fact I actually enjoy it to some degree. Although it seems the Job-o-Tron does have a dialogue pop-up which may get in the way during combat or jumping puzzles, but other than that, I guess it probably wouldn’t annoy me too much.
it’s pretty funny, but imagine a group of 20 or so players running around, each with incessant yakking backpacks.
My ears. (asura-pun intended
)
That’s the main thing I’m concerned with. Not even 20 players, just me personally using it. It seems awesome at first glance, but I can also see it getting really old. I’m so torn on whether I want it or not!
- I love killing rabbits, raccoons, and other helpless creatures with ice, fire, poison, and electricity just to watch the amusing death animations. Particularly fond of the rabbit fire death animation where it tries to put itself out with its paws, and all the ice animations where they just freeze in place and fall over.
- I have far, far too many weapons on most of my characters for no reason other than appearance. They all have the same stats, all will (eventually) have the same sigils, though because I do have so many it often takes me a while before I fully gear them up, its all literally just for different skins. Because I’d rather buy and carry around 2 dozen weapons (or more, my ranger is almost up to 3 dozen >.>) than waste transmutation charges.
~ Likewise with armor, though I haven’t quite reached the point where I have more than 2 sets on any character. Yet. My Guardian might be getting her 3rd set with the new heavy female Carapace, though…
~ Because of both of the above, I have maxed out every character’s bag slots (except my Engineer and Elementalist, since they have less weapons to choose) and have half of those slots taken up by invisible bags for all my excess gear. Only 15 slot bags, because I’m too cheap for higher capacity ones >.>
- I buy recipes for new food and other consumables when they’re first introduced (and thus “cheapest”) for no reason. Even if I never, ever see myself using them, I want them just for the sake of it. Though with that being said, I don’t and likely will never have all of them, so I’m not even a proper completionist. But if I can afford a new recipe, I’ll probably buy it. Recent example, I bought the recipes for Batwing Brew, Crystallized Nougat, and used my Mad King Chest on the recipe for Pumpkin Oil (skipped the Sharpening Skull because its too expensive). I will likely never craft any of them.
~ I keep my characters well-stocked on food and utilities, but almost never use them, since I don’t really do much of the tougher content which requires the added stats (I never WvW, don’t really do dungeons, ect). And if I am doing something tougher that I feel could benefit from a few bonus stats, I’m still hesistant to use them.
~ I’ve wanted to do dungeons since I first hit level 80 a year and a half ago. I have dungeon gear I’d like to get, and it’d be nice to work together with players in a controlled environment and not just a zerg. To this day, I have not done a single dungeon beyond the Living Story related ones. Every time I think I might want to actually bite the bullet and get into it, I read some hate-filled forum post or see some flame-inbued conversation in-game about stacking and meta-builds and terrible “noobs” and I decide its not worth the hassle. Who’s going to want to put up with my lame non-meta-build noob self at this point.
~ To tie into the above, I want to craft Arachnophobia and The Crossing. I even bought all the stuff I need to forge the recipes during Halloween while prices were low, and I’ve started saving the Lodestones. But I need dungeon tokens for the Gifts. Will I ever ACTUALLY craft them, given that fact? Who knows.
- I always think it would be nice to hold little giveaways for various items that I might have lying around, really make someone’s day, and yet I never feel like I have enough gold or stuff to justify giving anything much away. Most I’ve ever given was some of the various Wintersday skins and the like, and lets be honest, those are worth next to nothing. Not sure if that makes me greedy or generous.
- I am more than willing to spend real money to buy gem store items, but that is entirely restricted to cosmetic items (or more space, bank tabs and bag slots). Armor, weapons, minis. Which I buy and use on ONE character. Yet I will not buy endless harvesting tools or anything of the sort, despite the fact that unlike skins I’d actually get a tangible benefit of convenience from them, because they only apply to ONE character.
- Reading through this topic has, at times, kittened me off and reaffirmed the internet is full of terrible trolls.

The devs have said before that they don’t want seasonal / holiday currencies in the wallet because they don’t want to clutter it with stuff you won’t need and that serves no purpose 99% of the time. And I can kind of see their point there, although I’d still favor a separate tab or something just to get some of that out of the bank while still keeping it from cluttering the wallet. Just throw a tab on the side for “Holiday currency” so that it remains hidden.
Either way, however, I would definitely like any new non-seasonal currencies to be added to the wallet. I see no functional difference between dungeon tokens and something like geodes or the new bandit currency. Both are collected in a certain place and used at a certain vendor(s) to buy various things. So if dungeon tokens are in the wallet, then everything else with a similar function should be as well.
Stuff like lockpicks isn’t QUITE the same, but I’d still love to see those added to the wallet (or a keychain or something, as someone suggested once). If nothing else than for the convenience of being able to access them on all characters rather than having to shuttle them back and forth.
I seen another post. Brought up a good question.
Are these skins going to be account bound or tradable ?
Is there going to be a mad dash to the skritt to claim a prize?
Some people may be sleeping, working, or just not logged in at that time. I really hope they give a time of the draw of a fair chance to sell to the highest bidder
They’re going to be sellable, that’s been confirmed.
And no, there won’t be a mad dash to the skritt because the items are being mailed to the winners directly.
As for some people being busy when they’re first distributed and missing out on the “mad rush” to sell… yep. But that’s pretty much unavoidable given the nature of the game being worldwide and all. Impossible to do it at a time when EVERYONE will be around.
They’ve confirmed they will be sellable on the TP.
And yes, some people will get lucky and be around at “prime time” (which is to say, when they’re first given out) to be able to sell them ASAP before the price drops too much. But that’s the same with any item in the game, really. There’s no way to eliminate that effect, really, given the wide range of people and timezones who play.
cuz it has really awesome sound effects
feel free to contact me in game if you want to hear it and dont know someone w/ one of the skinsthe sab warhorn also has sound effects, i… do have access to it too (had to check lol 14 months too long without sab)
the rest of the blue sab skins are merely really awesome. those 2 are something special.
Actually. every single one of the Super weapons has a unique sound effect, the pistol / rifle / warhorn are just the most noticeable.
Oh nooo, that probably means my asura won’t get them, asura females nearly always get the male versions of everything
And they’d be so perfect for her as a necro, she could have the whole dark fairy thing going in, that was my first thought when I saw the datamined pics of the armour
Yep, Asura get the male version as usual. Sorry.
I’m assuming you’re talking about the new armor sets, and if so, I don’t understand the complaint seeing as all 3 sets DO have pants (well, the light one on females is a bit iffy, but the rest definitely do). Sure, they have a “skirt” cape type thing in the back (I’m sure there’s an actual term for this, but I don’t know what it is) but they have pants as well.
I see no problem with a Charr who supports the treaty using Ebonhawke weapons. Could view it as a symbol of support for said treaty.
I agree (and countered that post on Dulfy you mentioned with my own as well
). I want the butterflies on the male sets.
The female sets actually seem to have a distinct theme to them. Butterflies. You’ve got the butterfly wing pattern “skirts” and the butterflies themselves on the shoulders and legs as well as flowers and some generally insect-like patterns on the metalwork. It ties the whole set together and gives it a unique flair.
The male set? I don’t even know. There’s maybe a little bit of beetle in there perhaps, but on the whole it just seems much less interesting and thematic.
At the very least you could have given the male sets more of a bug theme. Fine, butterflies are “too feminine” or whatever (I’d argue against that all day, but regardless). Then make it a beetle or something instead. Don’t give the female sets a nice theme and then just say “Welp, butterflies don’t work so just do whatever with the male set”.
The gem store always tends to take a few hours past the patch to update. Seems the push the patch out first and then do the TP after. Patience, it’ll be there.
What I’d like to know is why the transformations have no costume brawl skills. I picked it up primarily for the purpose of the transformations, hoping I’d be able to toss all my Halloween tonics and free up some space, and yet no costume skills means I have to hold on to them now anyway.
I know the transformations are the “dud” in the bunch for many people who just want buffs, but I see no reason that has to mean the transformations themselves are literally useless.
I would love that staff so much. It doesn’t even fit any of the weapon themes for my characters, but darnit if it isn’t cool enough I’d buy it anyway. Sadly there were no new Halloween weapons at all this year.
The removal is happening for the Black Lion Tickets only. Special tickets should still work, as it happens via a special option from the Weapon Specialist which appears only if you have one of those tickets. Anet has said in the past they don’t want to invalidate special tickets, and the Winter’s weapon tickets still work even though those are gone from the weapon vendor.
He’s saying he posted the offer on the BLTC. Grey market trading is trying to directly trade via mail. So that doesn’t apply to his situation at all.
You can. Its the Hexad outfit, available right now from the Halloween vendor for 3 Candy Corn Cobs.
Though only the female version has the Asian hat. The male version has more of a specter mask with glowing eyes.
They shot themselves in the foot by not having the full sets ready to go when they first rolled out the achievements. If they had, the absolute best way to have handled it would have been a simple “1 piece per milestone until you have a full set” approach and only required 18000 AP, which, while high, is still reasonable in terms of being a long-term goal.
But because they only added the other pieces later on and some people had reached most of the previous milestones already, they needed to go with the rather silly milestones they have now, where you get 2 full sets of shoulders/gloves/helms before getting anything else. Just to be fair to those few who had reached those points already and would have missed out on a chance to get other pieces (for example, if someone had reached 15,000 before they added the other pieces, they would have missed out a chance to get the boots and leggings while instead getting a second helm / gloves / shoulder).
As for an alternate method… I can’t say I’d be onboard with that, honestly. As ludicrous as the requirements for a full set are, adding another method would only make eventually getting to those benchmarks completely pointless. So you grind out the leggings and chestpiece via whatever alternate method they devise, then 5 years down the line when you do hit those milestones for AP you get what? An item you already have? Something else entirely making it pure advantage to grind it out in advance because by doing that you get an exclusive item the people who just do the AP don’t get?

Last time I checked, the ingredients for the recipe werent requirement to craft the crossing.
well they arent optional are they
1 time investment diluted by multiple craftings
You could always buy the Gift of the TP or find someone to craft it for you, assuming you can find someone trustworthy.
Nooooo, they can’t reconcile. Then we’d lose all the priceless banter between them.
What transformations can you get from the Gobbler? Just Candy Corn Golem, or can you get all of the Halloween tonic transformations?
It runs a very specific path around the Labyrinth (around the outside “main” path), and the event pops up pretty early on your map, so if you’re watching out for it you can usually get out of the way before it gets to you. Most places in the Lab have plenty of spots to run off the main area and “hide”.
Mind you, that’s before its aggro’d you. It is true that once its locked on to you its extremely difficult to get away, what with the Horror’s charge attacks, the perma-torment it puts on you, and as you mentioned the tendency of the mobs to pull / cripple / ect.
I’m kind of torn on whether I like it or not, honestly. Having to run and hide from some giant chainsaw-wielding terror is certainly very Halloween-like, so in that way its fitting. But purely from a gameplay perspective, forcing the player to disengage whatever they’re doing to run off the main path and hide in a corner does get a bit annoying.
I believe the only way to get the Pet Seed again would be to go all the way through making the Cultivated Vine. You’re given a Pet Seed at the end of the process along with the Cultivated Vine backpiece.
You may have had to do that anyway. At some point there was a “lock” on Mawdrey where you could only make it if you’d completed the Cultivated Vine, even if you got the bug that gave you the Pet Seed early. Not sure if that was ever removed, but either way, now that you’ve traded in the Pet Seed I think that’s your only course of action.
Macro’s are against the ToS no matter what you’re using them for. 1 keyboard / mouse input = 1 action, that’s the rule of thumb for this game.
Best you can do in that situation is bind click to your mousewheel so you can just scroll to rapidly click. Not sure how you do that, mind you, I’m hardly familiar with that type of keybinding "sorcery’, but I’ve heard people mention it before.
The utility stations are indeed completely ridonculous price-wise. I don’t know how anyone came up with those as reasonable prices. Perhaps they looked at the cost of Feast recipes and used that as their baseline, but if so that was the wrong place to look as the recipe cost is a 1-time thing, and if you don’t want to pay for the Recipe you can just buy the feasts themselves.
Most of the Dry Top recipes aren’t bad. There are just a few that are pretty high. But given that many of them are reasonable, I’m not sure it was intentional that others be so costly. I still theorize that at least a couple of them are errors.
The Halloween ones actually aren’t that bad right now either. Comes out to about 85-90s for one batch if you buy everything off the TP (assuming I did my maths correct), and you get 5 when you make it just like other utilities. A bit more than normal utilities, but still reasonable enough. Of course, once Halloween is over that might be another story, especially if Candy Corn ever gets to 1s+ a piece like it did over the last year. Depends on just how much supply is created, but since the loot is flowing pretty freely I don’t really expect it to get quite that bad.
Of course, since the utility items themselves are dropping frequently as well, it’ll be a good while before the supply of the already-made items dries up and it becomes favorable to make them instead. Assuming anyone wants to use them anyway. I haven’t heard anything about whether they’re actually good to use or not, the item itself doesn’t really tell you what kind of stat boosts it gives you, and I’m not sure whether you get the buff all the time yourself or only for a short while after reviving someone.
Sadly, the Ghost, Zombie, and Skeleton tonics have always been kept somewhat limited for some reason. They don’t really drop from bags (I believe they might have in the first year, but not after that) and they aren’t craftable. Not really sure why that is.
With the new crazy high drop rate of Halloween materials, I think the costs for the various Halloween gift recipes are now reasonable, although still a bit of a grind if you were to farm it all yourself. Still, the price I feel is in line with other prestige skins now.
Yah, I suppose this year they aren’t TOO bad. I hadn’t realized just how much the price of the fine crafting materials for them had dropped. I still think the sheer numbers are rather insane (10k Candy Corn and Fine Materials just to craft the Gift recipe?) but the gold cost, while a bit high, isn’t ludicrous now.
I might be forgetting some, but off the top of my head there’s one single conversation in the Labyrinth between Thorn and Eddy that involves violence towards women specifically. And even then, its not ever implied they were killed BECAUSE they were women, they just become a few of hundreds of casualties to the pair of maniacs. I don’t see how its misogynistic at all given the circumstances of the characters. They’re both murdering psychopaths who kill any and all types.
Are these only for the BL tickets, or for the other tickets during LS1 as well?
I still have two Dragon Jade tickets lying around – will I be unable to use those? I believe these have a different weapon vendor.
Same vendor, different option. If you have old currency or tickets; you get to pick ‘I have a time-limited ticket’ and it opens the old LS1 claim menu.
And to further clarify, the fact that they use a different option from the vendor means they will not be removed, either. The only thing that’s getting removed is the weapons from the normal vendor window, the special option will still work (and should always work, Anet has said they don’t want to invalidate special tickets).
All of the recipes are craftable any time. The sigils, the gift, everything.
The only thing that gets removed after Halloween (or did last year, anyway, no telling if it will for sure this year) is the vendor that converts Candy Corn to Cobs and the special materials (Fangs, Nougat, Skulls) into their refined versions. Which interferes with creating the Gift recipe from the Forge, but nothing else.
The special claim tickets are handled through a separate dialogue option from the Weapon Specialists only seen if you actually have one of those tickets. Those aren’t getting removed, they’re only being removed from the normal vendor window which sells all the sets for Black Lion Tickets.
Anet has said they don’t want to invalidate any special claim items. And the Wintersday claim tickets are still viable even after they were removed from then normal claim ticket vendor window.
Special claim tickets will never be invalidated. Its never happened before, and Anet has specifically said they don’t want to do it. The only thing that’s being removed is the ability to buy those weapons using normal Black Lion Tickets.
What is that UFO in the first picture? Spooky!
That’s a Mad King door. (When Thorn is playing his usual tricks on the poor folk of Lion’s Arch.
Are those doors still around? I haven’t seen any this year.
For those who don’t know, during the first halloween event, there were ‘free-candy’ mad king doors in LA that would sometimes play tricks on you when you knocked, like putting you in a fake loading screen, forever. Or in one case, dropping you out of a door hundreds of feet in to the air…
They’re definitely still around. They only appear at certain times, though. They won’t appear during Mad King Says or when Thorn is walking around telling jokes, only during his downtime (when he’s basically warping around playing pranks, including the doors).
Also, which specific doors show up also seems to be random. There are quite a number of them (of the top of my head, at least 5, possibly 6), and sometimes they don’t all appear each round or are in different orders
Neat pictures. I really hope those are intentional, because it takes the designers’ work on the Halloween decorations to a whole other level (not that the normal décor isn’t great).
The max you can retrieve at any one time (or view) is 100, but all items are stored in there even if you exceed that. You just have to take them in batches of 100.
You don’t need to craft the Gift of Souls recipe during the 2 weeks. Its a permanent recipe in the Forge, always there.
But yes, the recipe for learning to craft the gifts is indeed completely insane in price, even with the increased drop rates this year. They adjusted a lot of the other rewards to be much more reasonable, was kind of hoping they’d adjust these too, but alas.
Just printscreen when you’re loading into LA and set is as a background.
That works to some degree, but then you don’t get a full screen desktop (you get the black boxes on the top and bottom as well as the icons for LA at the bottom). And if you were to try and cut the black and resize the image it would get distorted. If they actually released it as a proper desktop you’d get the full thing in good resolution.
Special claim tickets will always work, as they’re handled via a special option at the weapon vendors, not the normal one. And the devs have specifically stated they’ll never make claim tickets invalid.
Wintersday claim tickets still work, for instance, even though the Winters weapons are removed from the normal weapon specialist options.
Its almost certainly the reason they closed it off. Any time they close something off outright like this, it means there’s a major issue that they need to plug up immediately, even before they can put out a proper patch. Which usually means exploit or game-breaking bug.
Ah, neat. They’re quite nice.
Which again makes it questionable why they’re not being used. They’re already made and all, why not.
From what I’ve heard, there was some kind of exploit regarding the loot from the instance so they disabled it until they can put out a fix patch.
Seconded! I love the new loading screen for Lion’s Arch this year, its leaps and bounds better than last year’s wallpaper (and among one of the best they’ve done period, IMO). Please give us the LA loading screen as wallpaper for this year.
Same here. Wasn’t map-swapping, but I was in the labyrinth for 2 hours and only saw a handful of people running small door events while avoiding the legendary bosses (especially that darned Labyrinthine Horror which will run around and butcher individual players). And I never once got an invitation to leave the instance either, so the game apparently thinks that handful of people is populated enough.
I can’t believe its so empty already. I was expecting a few days of achievement hunters and such down there at least.
I am not positive but the person that I seen had it in LA told me when I asked that they got it from the Exotic Trick or Treat Champion bag from the Legendary Monsters.
You mean people are actually killing the champs? I’ve been in the Labyrinth for the past 2 hours and seen all of maybe 6 other people total, all just running around doing small door events while fleeing in terror every time the Labyrinthine Horror comes around. I’m rather surprised honestly, day 1 and already deserted? Figured people would be down doing achieves at the very least. Especially if there’s exclusive loot from the legendary bags.
The dev team typically takes a break around the holidays, so that might end up being a full month worth of Wintersday even if it doesn’t start until the 16th.
