Season 3 start date?

There’s been some info released about a panel at PAX South in which they’ll be addressing future plans for GW2, so I imagine anything related to LS Season 3 would be talked about at that point.

Today's Daily in Record Time

I prefer to craft the “tool sets” needed for the exotic back items when Daily Crafter comes up.

The 2nd-highest level of the tool set requires just 5 T5 refined crafting materials (mithril ingots, elder wood planks, ect), which is both relatively cheap AND something that most people should have lying around at any given time. With the leatherworker set being the cheapest.

Luck is cheaper (by which I mean its essentially free), but you probably need to do a bit of salvaging to get enough unless you have a stockpile of luck you haven’t refined recently.

Game of gold sellers

I haven’t gotten a gold seller spam in weeks. Maybe even months.

I’m kind of disappointed. Reporting those idiots is one of my great joys in GW2. OK, maybe not GREAT joys, but I do get a bit of satisfaction from it.

Suggestion: Custom Class Particle effects

Electro.4173

I wouldn’t mind different shades of the primary colors each class uses.

But I wouldn’t want them to completely change the base color of each class (like your suggestion of Guardians getting gold). I feel that the colors play into part of the identity of each class, and they should remain somewhat consistent to keep that identity in-tact.

Crafted Backpacks: what to slot?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

The crafted ‘packs are level 78, not level 80. So you can’t slot in the usual “best” jewels into them (Exquisite), as those require a level 80 base item to be placed into.

The “best in slot” upgrades for the crafted backpacks are Embellished Brilliant Jewels, which only require level 65.

And for what its worth, the crafted back items have higher base stats than a normal back item despite being only level 78. So a crafted back item + an Embellished Brilliant Jewel is actually BETTER than a standard level 80 back item with an Exquisite Jewel. So you don’t lose anything (in fact, you gain a very small amount), its just set up in an odd way that makes it slightly odd to figure out.

Snowfall Superior Runes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

If you could swap out Runes freely without losing them, I could see them being fun occasionally. But since Runes are a bit more permanent than that (you CAN swap them out, of course, but losing them in the process is an issue… not so much for these runes as you can get them for basically nothing, but for your “real” runes) I can’t see myself ever using them, even just for fun. To do so would mean either buying a separate set of armor to throw these Runes in, or sacrificing my normal runes.

Even though some of the Runes I do use aren’t that expensive anyway, the idea of wasting extra money to slot in Snowfall runes for a bit of fun then swapping back… yah, I’ll pass. Even if its only 50s worth of money to replace my normal runes.

Mysterious Vine Parts - Can I reobtain them?

You can get every part for the Mysterious Vine back again if you delete them, yes.

Some require you to replay the instance you originally got the piece from and talk to the NPC at the end, who will then offer you the part via dialogue. Some can be bought from the gardener centaur NPC in Dry Top for a laurel.

There are too many chests

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

I don’t have a problem with the log-ins and dailies, since those are once a day and thus you don’t really get overloaded with them all at once (generally). Nor do I have a problem with the ones for achievements or collections, as those are also relatively infrequent.

However, If regular PvP / WvW stuff is anything like activities such as Bell Choir or Toypocolypse, then I agree that part is a bit silly (I don’t do WvW and PvP so I don’t know if its that bad, though).

Do I really need to see a glowing chest pop up EVERY SINGLE SONG I play? Or every single round of Toypoc that goes by? Why can’t it just go into my inventory automatically? If I play a few rounds without obsessively claiming every chest that comes up as they come, then I have to sit there for a minute slowly clicking every chest, watching the animation, and clicking it away just so that the next one in line can immediately pop up, rinse and repeat. What purpose does it serve, just so the game makes sure I darn well know its giving me that 1 present each round? I can see the little pop-up when I get an item above my mini-map, I don’t need a big glowing chest to make sure I don’t “miss it”.

Boy, Anet must be really taking a vacation...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

I have no problem with Anet taking a vacation over the holidays, regardless of what “other” companies or employees do. If anything, I think more companies need to take more time off around the holidays, especially if they’re a non-essential service (Obviously we can’t have all the grocery stores take a week off or have the airlines shut down and strand everyone travelling for the holidays, but for game design? Absolutely, we can live without that!).

But I too noticed how odd it was that we didn’t get a Gem Store update this week. First time in… honestly, as long as I can remember, where we’ve gotten nothing on a Tuesday. Even when they’re on vacation we usually get small stuff every single week, pretty much without fail. Its very strange.

Of course, as people have mentioned and I myself have also noticed, a bunch of things are going out of the Gem Store tonight (and a few went out last night). So that could be clearing the way for some stuff to go live tonight or tomorrow, perhaps. Maybe its not a case of “not getting anything this week” but we’re just getting it a couple days late to make it a proper New Years addition.

Hmm. Well, color me interested. As people have said, you don’t rent out a main auditorium for a major presentation at a game conference for the usual vague “we are working on stuff but we can’t share anything yet” type promises like we’ve tended to get in the past. Certainly interested to see where this goes, sounds like maybe they’re finally going to pull back the curtain on all of that aforementioned “stuff” they’ve been unwilling to share about.

Bandit Skeleton Chests Farm?

in Living World

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

Seems like every time I go to the Silverwastes recently, the first map I come across is a “farm map” and I have to LFG out to find ones actually doing the breach.

Yesterday, for instance, first map I got into was a farm map. Actually decided to join the farm for a bit since I had some spare crests and need a bit of gold. Crashed out, logged back in, still ended up in a farm map (the same one, in fact). I went for about 2-3 hours personally, and from what I hear the farm had been ongoing for at least 5 hours when I started.

Maybe that’s just something to do with my home server and what shard / map the game is deciding to put me into based on that, though.

Still, farming maps are out there. This was on the US servers, as well, so its not just EU that has them as some seem to be suggesting.

Where is the real Ho-ho-tron?

in Living World

Electro.4173

He hasn’t appeared since the end of Season 1. Perhaps they’re giving him a “break” so he doesn’t become overplayed (I know I saw a few complaints about him appearing too often when he was showing up all the time in S1).

Hopefully they haven’t abandoned him completely, though I’m not too worried since even though the character himself hasn’t shown up, he’s gotten plenty of attention in the form of product placement (backpack + harvesting tools). Maybe he’s sitting on a pile of gold and gems reaped from the royalties.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

Yah, the double-fractal today… not good.

I’m not throwing a fit about it or claiming its the end of the world or anything. I’ve missed dailies before (though usually because I didn’t have time,) and its definitely not some great tragedy or anything. But having 2 basically identical Daily categories, much less ones tied to a very specific activity which not all players enjoy, when they’re already limited to just 4 already is rather lousy. Not just Fractals specifically, but anything. It would be bad to have 2 jumping puzzles or 2 dungeons or 2 world bosses, whatever. With only 4 slots for dailies, there NEEDS to be variety.

If its all RNG that determines the dailies and these two just happened to come up together, then it should be made so that can’t happen. Either put them in the same “slot” or add a secondary check to make sure the two don’t appear at the same time. If its a set rotation and each day has specific dailies, then you just need to swap out one of the fractal ones for this particular day.

Or just give us more than 4 choices in general, and then it wouldn’t really be that big a deal if we “doubled up” now and then.

Chooseable weapon skills are a nice idea and something I’d support, but I wouldn’t want them tied to traits.

To use your example, what if I love the current Mesmer Greatsword just the way it is (I do, one of my favorite skill sets in the game) but also want to trait into Duelling for useful stuff like Deceptive Evasion. My choices in that scenario would be to either ditch the Duelling line in order to keep my Greatsword as-is, or keep those useful traits and get stuck with a changed skillset I don’t really want.

Skritt Mercenary Hire?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

You need to give them a total of 3 scraps to hire them, via a dialogue option that shows up when you’re carrying a scrap.

However, they seem bugged to some degree, in the fact that it seems sometimes they’ll see you have scraps and accept them, and other times you can be holding a scrap and the dialogue option to actually give it to them doesn’t appear at all, you just get the standard option asking what you need to give them even when you’re clearly holding a scrap.

Gift-exchange vendor after event?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

They never keep the vendor in past years, but there also hasn’t been actual sources of more presents in past years either. The supply has always been cut right along with the vendor (minus buying them off the TP and stuff, but that’s not generating new supply, just shifting it around).

Will they change that and keep the vendor now that there IS an actual way to create more supply? Who knows. They kind of did with Candy Corn / ToT bags, but only certain items. Maybe they’ll do that here too, leave certain items on the festival vendor year-round but remove others.

Something like the Harvesting Tools would be nice to have access to year-round.

All that said, I’m not really counting on it. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if it does happen, though.

Shoulder Scarf Pricing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

Pretty much all single armor items are significantly more expensive than full armor sets or outfits. That’s the way its always been. The earmuffs and hat are actually the exceptions to that, not the norm.

People have complained about the single-item prices before, but nothing ever comes of it really. So Anet is apparently getting enough sales at the high prices that they don’t see the need to lower them.

A new vine just sprouted in the Silverwastes

in Living World

Additional vines sprouting up is nothing new (though I suppose its somewhat surprising that its still happening even during Wintersday).

The fact that its actually animated and they don’t just “poof” into the world whenever the timer deems its time for a new one to show up is pretty neat, though. Though the animation itself is kind of underwhelming, something that big moving that fast ought to throw up a bit of debris or something at least.

Idea: Tonic Tab for the Hero Panel

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

I would love a tonic tab. I’m saving so many tonics in my bank because I’m a sucker for that sort of fun little thing, but my bank space is getting scarce and I’m getting pretty tempted to start dumping some of them (particularly the ones that serve no purpose, like the elemental potions… why don’t all tonics have costume brawl skills?).

Not to mention it would be much more convenient to have them available for any character any time. If I come across a bunch of players messing around with tonics out in the open world, I generally can’t participate since I don’t carry them around on me, but leave them in the bank.

Seems like pretty much a straight port of the finisher interface complete with either multiple or infinite uses depending on which tonics you have and how you got them would be perfect.

Electro.4173

It was a nice change. Putting them in the wallet would be better and I hope they still do that one day, at least with the dedicated currencies like Geodes and Bandit Crests, but in the mean time this helps a little at least. At least now you can just dump them in the bank and spend them on whatever character you want. Mind you, you still need to dump them in the bank in the first place, but at least you don’t have to move them multiple times.

Diminishing Returns w/Gifts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

The reason for the “silly stack splits” is because it takes the amount each individual player sells you and keeps them in a chunk.

For example, if you have a standing order for 250 gifts and then one player sells 10 gifts, one player sells 140, and one sells 100, you’ll end up with stacks of 10, 140, and 100 in the TP window.

All kinds of bugs in Wintersday JP

Electro.4173

The candy canes disappearing might just be an intended change to the puzzle.

From what I’ve read, the blue rectangular boxes only spawn if no one has jumped on the other boxes, and a lot of people jump early now, so that prevents them from showing up a lot of the time.

The exploding boxes, too, seem to be tied to players. Once a player jumps on any box they all start exploding (randomly, of course).

Mesmer can use it decently if you run a Sharpened Images condition build, since the GS clones hit multiple times and are thus pretty good at proc’ing bleeds from Sharpened Images if you have enough crit chance.

Guardian and Ranger definitely don’t really fit a condition GS build. Not sure about Warrior as I don’t have one of those.

I think you’re most likely right on the whole “test periods” thing Wanze.

But I don’t see why Anet would possibly need to test whether clicking a billion different containers would get a bad reception from players. I mean, seriously, I’ve been seeing consistent complaints about the amount of clicking required for loot stuff for ages. At the very least for the last few months with Dry Top and to a greater extent Silverwastes, and possibly as far back as the introduction of champ bags. Did Anet really think to themselves “Hmm, if we triple the amount of clicking do you think the complaints will stop?” Testing is all well and good, but there are some things that you ought to be able to draw a conclusion on WITHOUT a test.

Also, totally not jealous of all your rare loot (especially ‘dem Ho-Ho Trons). Nope, not at all planning to mug you on the streets of Lion’s Arch and steal your stuff, noooo. Pay no attention to the swarm of armed skritt behind me with suspicious looks on their faces.

The real problem with the Bell choir game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

How do you find the “easy” part?
I’ve tried 2 times for the bell choir, only option was for southeast arena, nortwest arena or something like that, no Iower or upper, and the notes came fast (for me) and a lot of them.
If thats for beginners I probably never get the daily

The “beginner songs” are the first couple played in each round.

If you’re already getting full groups and stages when you join and seeing people with scores, you’re probably joining rounds that are already partway completed and already on the harder songs.

Stay until the end of the round so that you get into a fresh round, and the easy songs will be at the start.

As for the TC’s suggestion, I personally think the first couple songs are fine for an introduction, but I wouldn’t mind an even slower “introduction mode” for new players IF it was a separate thing from the main game.

However, the first songs are already relatively slow for people who do know what they’re doing, so I would not agree with making the first songs even easier in terms of the main game. I don’t want to sit through a couple of “training wheel” songs with only 2 notes every round when I’m trying to enjoy playing Bell Choir.

unless you want to let it use the poison field ability to keep it from teleporting for a while.

Not exactly. It’s basically a substitution. There’s some RNG involved, but basically, if it uses that AoE, it would have done the projectile spin instead if you would have prevented it. It will teleport when it wants to, even with 5 stacks.

Both the AoE and the projectile spin have the same duration also, so it really doesn’t matter either way.

Yah, looks like I misread. I saw “substitute for its other abilities” and missed the “except for the teleport” bit, and assumed you could let it use the AoE to keep it in place for a while longer. Whoops.

Large Wintersday Gifts.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

You actually needed to get the other sizes last year because each size only contained certain kinds of snowflakes. EG small boxes gave you T1 and T2 snowflakes, Giant gave you T5 and T6.

This year it seems they’ve done away with that idea, and all boxes can now give you any kind of snowflake.

So its not really necessary to allow you to buy different sizes any more, since the only thing size seems to affect now is how much loot you can get and the chances at rarer items.

1st Daily Log-in Roll out is unfair

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

1 Day means nothing now, but on day 28, when other devout players have their gold find bonus, then it matters. And what about next month, or after that? What if log in bonus for month 12 is some sort of game breaking bonus gun that on that first day can be used to farm who knows what. Sure, probably a bannable offense but what if its like the maize farm? People made over 200g/day the first few days. FIRST means EVERYTHING in this game’s over inflated economy.

I really don’t think 2% gold find is going to make a difference, especially one day early. The amount of gold you find as raw currency (rather than items to sell) is miniscule, you’d have to farm for a loooong time to see any sort of significant increase from a 2% boost.

And there are not going to be different bonuses for each month. These aren’t monthlies with different rewards, its simply a cycle. When you get to the end of the 28-day logon period, you just go back to day 1 again. So there will never be anything major given, its always going to be the same set of rewards on a loop.

It does seem somewhat individual store-dependent, though. My local Target doesn’t carry them any more, but a Target I went to a little further out the other day had them.

Another case where the shouts of “ZOMG you horrible noobs stop AoE’ing” is downright incorrect. In fact, with the poison vent thing it seems AoE is actually GOOD in this fight, unless you want to let it use the poison field ability to keep it from teleporting for a while. Lovely.

Though good luck convincing the masses of that when they’ve had the “No AoE” rule hammered into their brains. In fact, I suspect if I went in and started telling people not to worry about AoE I’d probably end up being yelled at.

A few of the new daily achievements are actually achievements. Mostly the ones dealing with stuff like bosses or dungeons. Though even the boss achieves mostly just involve getting to the right spot at the right time and joining the zerg for a couple minutes.

But I fail to see how “Harvest 4 trees in Queensdale” or “Do events in Silverwastes” are any better than the old dailies. Unless you think being forced into a certain location makes it challenging and not just annoying.

Just ignore the blue chest that pops up and then you can view it whenever you want. Its distinctive from any other reward chest, so it should be easy enough to leave there. Sure, its midly annoying sitting there bouncing around on the bottom of your screen and that’s a Band-Aid fix at best (it should 100% be viewable whenever you want through the normal interface menus) but its an option if you’re busy at the time.

Electro.4173

Yah, I definitely agree that the amount of clicky things in the Gifts this year is WAY out of hand. Its like every box you open requires another 4-8 clicks after that to open or use all the stuff inside it. Open boxes of wintersday apparel, use luck, open boxes / bags of sigils and runes, open boxes of harvesting tools, salvage the salvageable wintersday items, open boxes of random skins, open the “books” to get finishers THEN double click those to use them… its just insane. Its like every wintersday box you get is one of those Russian egg capsule dolls with layers of containers inside.

Some of them make sense, don’t get me wrong in thinking they’re all terrible. The bags that contain a choice of sigil or rune, those are good. The salvageable items, even though it is extra clicking, gets you appreciated materials in the process, so those are all good.

But stuff like the finishers, skins, and the random sigil / rune boxes, that’s just clicking for the sake of clicking. The original box itself is already RNG, just throw the random item in there and don’t make me open a second box for even more RNG.

Why are quartz missing from gifts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

I think it might be because we now have more permanent ways to get more Quartz so giving them away in gifts is no longer needed. In addition to the rather meager offerings of the home instance, we now have them scattered around Dry Top, including a Rich Node in the Skritt lair.

Mind you, we do also have more USES for the quartz as well, as both recent stat combinations use it as well as some other stuff like Mawdrey. So its not like it would have been completely redundant to put them in the gifts, but I still think the higher supply has a lot to do with it.
