Technically, every character in the game has the exact same hitbox, no matter if you’re the smallest Asura or the largest Norn. So every character of every race can make that jump without “hitting their head” so to speak. All shrinking does is make the camera a little bit more manageable.

That’s not to say that a tonic doesn’t help for larger characters just due to that, though.

Electro.4173

Well, no, I’m sure they wouldn’t reject the proposal of Rox joining based on the PC’s recommendation. I just think it’d be a bit odd for the PC to come back, say “Hey, she’s in the warband now” and then both the PC and Rox leave again. Adding more members to the warband would seem to be more of a thing you’d do when you’re on active duty in the Citadel or with the Legion, not while you’re out on Pact business.

I’d have to go and play the Camp Resolve instance again to be sure as I don’t 100% remember the details, but I don’t believe that Charr giving Rox a hard time had anything to do with her failing to kill Scarlet. From what I remember, it was more related to the incident with her previous warband and her being a gladium, as I believe she called him an old acquaintance. So I don’t really think you can claim Rytlock made her a “target” based on that. Though I could be mistaken.

And gladium all get treated that way, so I’d actually expect any Charr PC to be used to that and even potentially have some of that bias themselves. If anything, maybe it’d be the other races who didn’t understand the dynamic who would speak up about it more.

Favorite pets in the game and why?

In general, drakes are my favorite pets in the game. They’re aesthetically and thematically interesting (not just real world animals, have some fantasy flavor), and they’re very solid in combat to boot. Only pets with cleave basic attacks, fairly good at taking hits, F2 abilities tend to pack quite a punch (though some are a bit iffy on actually hitting).

As far as which drakes I like best, aesthetically the Ice Drake looks the coolest (pun intended :p), but combat-wise I prefer the River Drake (which sadly has the least interesting model, though).

Second place for pet families probably goes to Devourers, since they also have a bit of fantasy flare to their design. Favorite of that bunch is…. uh… whichever one has a rocky appearance and the 6x tail needle special attack. Lashtail maybe? I can never remember the individual names of the devourers.

I also really like the Snow Owl, despite not being fantasy-related at all. I think its because it gives me Legend of the Guardians vibes and the sheer hilarity of having a little owl murder things.

If its optional, then sure.

I think some combinations would look super cluttered, though (like, say, using 2 of the really huge greatswords or 4 larger 1H weapons) so I’d definitely give it a no-go if its going to be forced.

The lack of reset nodes during the last couple LS events did indeed suck, and I’m not sure why they didn’t put them in when they get a hugely positive response when they added them to Glint’s Lair.

Thankfully this recent update does have them again, so hopefully they’ll stick around for future story missions as well.

The way the PC stands up for Rox...

Electro.4173

As far as getting Rox into your warband, nah. Offering her a spot in your warband would actually make less sense to me. Basically from the start of her introduction (and certainly from the point where you know her enough to where you’d offer her a spot) she’s already trying to get into Rytlock’s warband. I don’t think stepping in and “stealing” one of Rytlock’s potential recruits would be a very good idea. I’m not 100% sure that sort of thing is looked down on in Charr society or not, but it seems like it could be. And Rox probably wouldn’t be interested in the offer anyway, since she seems quite determined to get into Rytlock’s warband specifically, not just any warband that’ll take her (not that the players’ warband would be “just some random warband”, but still).

Plus, its somewhat unclear how much of an active connection your Charr has to their warband at this point anyway. Far as the storyline is concerned, you’re basically on an extended leave of absence from your warband while you attend to Order and Pact business. The story never really mentions you going back to active warband service even after Zhaitan’s death, so its conceivable you’re still on leave, in which case waltzing in and saying “Hey, here’s a new recruit for the warband” would be somewhat odd.

As for standing up for Rox in terms of Rytlock’s scolding of her… I don’t really see how the PC needed to step in and defend her.

Rytlock yelled at her for a few seconds for disobeying a direct order (which she did, since her orders were to kill Scarlet in no uncertain terms and whatever the cost). Not exactly the end of the world. He could have done much, much worse if he actually felt she was in the wrong. Heck, even Rox herself at some point says he would have been within his rights to kill her on the spot for it, I believe. To me, he clearly felt it was the right choice to make, but all the same he’s not just going to let the disobedience slide without at the very least calling her out on it and giving her a bit of grief.

Rox is a big girl, I’m sure she can handle a bit of scolding.

They actually said when you were talking to Ogden the first time. Wynne had a golden seal that allowed her to open the door.

Duh, I must have missed this, though I tried to really pay attention.

Although all this does is change the question to, why on earth would a member of then an infantile race have an (presumably) ancient seal of a lost race predominantly tied to human gods.

The cave itself as a setting seems somewhat out of place, I mean it is an interesting setting but it has no clear connection or significance to the events themselves.

My guess would be that she got it from the centaurs. She was there researching history with the centaurs after all.

As to why the centaurs had it… found it somewhere near the cave? Ancient treasure passed down through the tribe? Who knows.

My personal prediction of what its going to be is an expansions worth of content broken up “ala-carte” style into individual gem store purchases. New zones, new profession, new race, new traits and skills, all individually purchased. Get what you want, and only what you want. Hopefully totaling up to a price comparable to a normal expansion if you buy everything.

That would fit the bill of something huge to announce while also being different enough from a standard MMO expansion to warrant hyping it up as something unique.

Plus, that sort of thing is all the rage nowadays anyway.

But yah, I’m trying not to get TOO hyped. Its not really working, mind you, but I’m trying darnit >.>

I love Largos, they’re my second favorite non-playable race and also the race that I want to become playable most after Tengu. Neat lore and awesome appearance. But its not the right time for them to show up.

I could maybe see Largos happening at some time in the future when if / when we venture south to confront the Deep Sea Dragon. Since once we do that, we’ll be in the Largos’ homeland, which means encountering more of them (which gets rid of the whole “they need to be mysterious!” problem), and they’ll actually have a valid reason to join with the other races.

Right now it would be completely out of left field for the Largos to suddenly show up en-mass, which is what making them playable would do.

Conversely, the Tengu area shares a border with the Maguuma region, so it would fit much better for the Tengu to join now.

Mawdrey 1-time story rewards vendor?

in Living World

Electro.4173

You can get every single item for Mawdrey back in some way or another, none can ever be lost permanently.

Some can be purchased from the Centaur Gardener in the Oasis in Dry Top for laurels.

Others can be gotten by running through the story steps that originally gave them and talking to some of the NPCs at the end of the story. That applies even if you’ve already completed the story steps before, you just have to talk to the NPCs rather than getting the item rewarded automatically in the mission rewards. For example, if you talk to Rox after Rytlock goes AWOL into the portal she’ll offer you the item normally gotten from that story step.

Narrative Lessons From 8 Releases of Season 2

Electro.4173

The first 6 are good points. The last ones, though… yah, I don’t agree with those.

Like Zaxares, I like the biconics. I enjoy their interactions, the character building each one gets, and so on. Yes, you do have a point that they aren’t of grand importance to every event, but I actually like that about them as well. It gives you a nice contrast to see not only the big important Pact leaders staging grand assaults, but also the smaller people who just want to help in whatever way they can. I think having some side characters in there helps balance the overall experience, and having them tied to you specifically makes for a nice team dynamic.

And boy oh boy do I ever disagree on point #8. Integration of story and multiplayer aspects is good when applicable, but not when it involves locking the core storyline behind them. Saying “well, if you want to see where the story goes then go do fractals, join a guild, ect” is actually locking the storyline behind those things. Requiring you to partake in those aspects or miss out. And that’s a bad thing, IMO.

There can be multiplayer aspects that happen alongside the storyline and that tie into it, for sure. Those are nice. But I think they’re doing fine on that front anyway. During the part of the story where you first got into the labyrinth, then they opened the labyrinth up for the open world multiplayer aspect as well. The Pact base gets attacked, showing that Mordremoth is more active in the area, and at the same time the Vinewrath event opens up. Those are events that tie in to the LS release without locking story behind them. That’s a good way to integrate them, not literally holding the story hostage while saying “You’ll do fractals and like it, darnit!”.

What do you keep in your inventory?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

What don’t I keep in my inventory? Seriously, my inventories are so darn cluttered its ridiculous.

The whole 20 slots of my “starter bag” is usually full of random stuff. Salvage kits, spare gathering tools, random consumables from around the world (stuff like turret seeds, pet summons, foods leftover from festivals, ect).

Then I have 3 bags that I try to keep somewhat clear for drops, although on some of my characters the above “random stuff” overflows even into those.

Then I have 3-4 invisible bags on the bottom of my inventory that I use for spare weapons and armor (I have or will eventually have 2-3 different sets of armor per character, and 3-4 different weapons of each type per character, all just for different skins… I love using different weapon skins, but I keep them all on separate weapons so I don’t have to use trans charges all the itme), combat consumables, stacks of quartz for my daily charged quartz acquisitions, and various “fun stuff” like tonics / kites.

All said and done, I usually only have 40 or so slots for drops at any given time. Not helped by the fact that most of my characters don’t even have 20-slot bags, as they’re rather expensive when crafted and I don’t do fractals so I can’t get them that way. I have been slowly upgrading them with Halloween Pails, though, so most characters have 2 20-slot bags at least.

2 human races, 1 fully animalistic race, one sort of animistic one, and one plant race. I’m not seeing how that’s excessive to the point where they couldn’t add more.

And really, what else would they add instead? Even bigger humans? Midget humans? Elves? None of those even exist in GW lore, so you’d rather just have them make up a human race just to not have another “animal race”?

Yah, I’m not sure “waking up the dragon with your giant energy drill” qualifies as trying to break free. The sleeping dragon had very little control over Sylvari, but awake, well, look where we are now.

Unless she meant to destroy the dragon, but based on the design of the machine and what the panels showed after her death, I don’t think that was the case. Plus, I seem to remember her mentioning a “new master” at some point, which also wouldn’t suggest she was trying to kill Mordy.

More gem store armor sets?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

Outfits are being prioritized because they’re easier to make (since you can’t mix and match, they don’t need to check for clipping issues with other armors) and can be made individually, rather than needing to release them in sets of 3 so that every player can get something.

I do hope they start balancing them out a little better in the future, thou8gh. I mean, its been, what, half a year since the gem store armor set? Something like that anyway, I believe. I get that outfits are easier to make and all, but there should be a mix of the two, not all outfits all the time.

That said, there have been some new armor sets in-game, so its not like we’ve gotten nothing at all. And in-game stuff is better anyway.

Also, something worth mentioning for the Vinewrath specifically is that the lack of a waypoint anywhere remotely close to the event itself sucks.

I’m usually one who waypoints the instant I die in most any event. But even I’ll wait around if I die during the Vinewrath, because the alternative is having to run the entire length of the map past some rather annoying enemies to get back to the fight (unless the skritt tunnels happen to be open). Its not a huge map, but its still a hassle to have to run all the way back if you die.

It’d help a lot if there was a WP near where the battle takes place. They could just have it contested at all times except during the Vinewrath battle if they wanted to make sure and keep the limited waypoint aspect of the map.

Way too easily abuseable, I think. Even if its restricted to commanders, there are still plenty of people with lots of money and commander tags who would be thrilled at the chance to go around griefing other players by sending them back to waypoints just for fun.

Oh, you slipped off a ledge in a jumping puzzle and are hoping someone will come by and revive you so you don’t have to restart all over? Sorry, commander Mckittenpants found you first, back to the start you go.

Standing around in a hostile area fighting agro mobs when someone runs by with another 3-4 mobs following them and gets them to attack and kill you? Yay, now they can go ahead and finish the deed by forcing you to WP to boot.

Yah, I’m not a fan of the non-combat idle stance the preview window shows you when using weapons. I’d definitely be in favor of the preview window being adapted to show the normal combat stance for the weapon equipped, if its possible to do.

Kidney/Eye Extractors

I’m inclined to believe there will NOT be dedicated extractors for the last 2 sets of parts, if only because of that special Mordrem Part Bag you get from the achieve for completing the LS episode. Which gives you a specific choice of one Kidney or Eye. Why would they even need to add something like that if getting those parts would be as easy as “Get special extractor, kill boss”? Seems to me that the special bag is meant to “patch up” some bad RNG luck without removing it from the picture entirely.

But hey, I’ll welcome being proven wrong.

What profession for your Tengu?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

I have 2 spare character slots waiting for a new race to be added, and 2 professions I don’t yet have a character for, Warrior and Thief. So putting the two together, if Tengu do happen in HoT, I’d be making a Tengu for each of those two professions.

Even if a new profession were added as well, I’d probably still go Warrior / Thief for my Tengu, and use the new profession on another race (probably Asura, since I only have 1 Asura right now along with 3 Charr and 2 Sylvari). Since I expect a lot of people would go for Tengu “newclass” combinations, and I’d want to be a bit different.

There is one small caveat to making a Tengu thief, though. Both of my current Medium Armor classes right now are Charr. And the Charr medium armor pool is… well, lets just say its not exactly amazing. Coats on Charr are (mostly) bad looking IMO, what with the massive tail clipping as well as the fact that a big coat would seem to impair a Charr’s ability to run on 4 legs, so the pool for usable medium armor skins for Charr is pretty slim. And if Tengu end up using the same armor models due to similarities in body structure, that would mean a 3rd character drawing from that same armor set. Not sure if I’d want that, I already regret having 2 of them at times, though I’m far too attached to them to delete either of them.

Mystery cave constant knockdowns

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

The shield DOES give stability.

But, stability only protects you from one of the dragons two attacks. The double claw swipes. They’re a normal knockdown and are completely blocked by stability.

The other attack the dragon has that can interrupt you is a bite / head attack. That attack throws you into the air, and stability won’t prevent that since its not really a control effect, its just the game moving you up. It does also knock you down after you go into the air, but that should be blocked by stability. Still, just the act of moving you into the air puts you out of range of the fire spot, which cancels your channel, stability or not.

The dragon seems to have a pattern of 2 claw swipes, a rock attack, then a bite. So if you’re having trouble with the bite hitting through stability, you could try waiting a bit until he’s not using that attack.

No one in their right mind is going to do any of those things with a precursor anyway, the only things you’d ever need to do with one is sell it on the TP or

What will happen to Sylvari PCs?

in Living World

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

It could be that the Pale Tree protects Dream sylvari BUT the combination of the Pact being right on top of Mordremoth’s doorstep combined with the fact that the Pale Tree is currently damaged meant that Mordremoth was able to overpower the Pale Trees protection, since his influence was at his strongest (that’s the way dragons seem to work, their influence is the most powerful at their location) and the Pale Tree is weakened.

Which would mean that Dream sylvari ought to be safe from Mordremoth as long as they don’t get any closer than the Silverwastes. Though as Mordremoth wakes up and gains power, his influence may grow even beyond that point.

Once the Pale Tree heals, then she may be able to protect Sylvari even if they get closer to Mordremoth. Which may be the method they use to eventually allow Sylvari to participate in the final battle against Mordremoth, unless they go for magical protection from another source (the old gods or something, perhaps).

Even without the Pale Tree recovering or additional magic, the PC may already be immune to Mordremoth’s influence just due to sheer force of will, or perhaps some of their past exploits. Perhaps something the PC did while fighting Zhaitan was able to “dragon-proof” them, for instance. Or maybe even the purification ritual of this most recent episode.

what will happen to Trahearne ?

in Living World

Posted by: Electro.4173

Electro.4173

Between the Pale Tree’s protection and Caladbolg, Trehearne is probably extremely resistant if not outright immune to Mordremoth’s influence. At least that’d be my guess. So I certainly don’t expect him to become corrupted.

And I honestly hope Anet doesn’t go that route, as I feel it would probably just be caving in to all the people who “hate him” and want him dead for “taking over” the personal story. “Well, OK, he’s corrupted now, kill away!”.

As for the leadership of the Pact… no idea there. At the moment he’s likely stranded with whatever other characters survived the failed Mordremoth assault, so at the very least he’ll likely be “replaced” temporarily. Though with who, I don’t know. I suppose maybe the player could be given temporary command.

In the long-term, could Trehearne get removed from the Pact for either his failed attack on Mordremoth or growing suspicions of Sylvari? Perhaps. Or he could be kept on for the same reason as he was initially given the leadership position to begin with, because after the attack he might have great insight into Modremoth and how he works.

The whole dialogue scene in Fort Mariner is weird. The way the conversation goes, it seems like the people are supposed to be moving around during certain parts of the conversation instead of all being planted there in one place. Like, when the woman complains to Magnus, it seems like she should walk up, complain, and then walk away before Kiel asks “who was that”, since “was” implies she’s not there any more.

And I’m sure Evon isn’t supposed to be talking to Hero-Tron about his little spy plan while standing right in front of them, either.

Not sure if its bugged, or something that was changed partway but the dialogue wasn’t altered to reflect the changes (like, they originally were going to have people moving around but decided everyone standing in one place would make it easier to hear or something).

It’s possible to continue to work with her without forgiving her.

Correction. It might be possible if she actually tried to cooperate, instead of just fleeing with stolen goods. As it is now, she simply cannot be trusted with anything important, because she might get ideas, or abandon allies in the hour of need. And the trust, once lost, is not easily regained (not that she even tries to regain it).

If Mordremoth getting the egg would really be that disastrous (which is what we’ve been led to believe at least, and I’d be inclined to believe, who knows what a dragon might do if given the chance to corrupt an unborn dragon) then Caithe taking the egg and fleeing is the best course of action when confronted by the Shadow of the Dragon, really.

If Caithe had stayed to fight alongside you, then sure, she might be helpful during the battle and raised the chances of it being defeated. However, had the battle been lost then it’d be game over. The Shadow would have the egg, and there wouldn’t even really be anyone left to try and retrieve it at that point either, since Trehearne and the rest of Destiny’s Edge are busy with the attack on Mordy himself and obviously the player and the biconics would all be dead. And no one else knows about the egg other than perhaps Canach, who may or may not have also gone with the Pact on their assault, and the Pale Tree, whose somewhat indisposed at the moment.

On the other hand, Caithe fleeing with the egg has a 100% chance of keeping it out of Mordremoth’s hands, at least for the time being. And its not like she’s leaving the player completely alone or anything, they still have the biconics for backup.

Does Braham’s bubble even do anything? It didn’t protect me or give me any stability. Is it supposed to?

it claims to, but didnt seem to help me much. I check buffs and such when figureing out an encounter. I enter his bubble, I see stability and protection ticking away. I figure, good, as long as I get in a bubble I should be able to channel unless I get downed. Well, that didnt happen. His stability worked about 25% of the time for me.

I am curious if this is intended behavior, as in some of the attacks ignore stability, or if I was getting some kind of bug.

Far as I can tell, the Dragon has 2 key attacks that it can use to interrupt you from lighting the fires. The claw swipes (come in pairs of 2), and the attack where it pops its head out of the ground.

The claw swipes are a normal knockdown. Stability stops those perfectly fine.

The head attack, on the other hand, is… weird. Far as I can tell, it doesn’t actually knock you down or even knock you back. What it does seem to do, however, is toss you into the air. Which puts you out of range of the fire prompt, effectively interrupting your channel. And since its not really a knockback or anything, just basically forcing you up into the air for a bit, stability does absolutely nothing to stop it from doing so.

The twin claw attacks were the most common attack the dragon would try to use on me when I was doing my runs, so stability worked most of the time for me (though not all the time). However, I’m not sure if its RNG that determines which attacks the dragon uses, and if so, I suppose its possible for RNG to make it use the head attack repeatedly and make it seem like stability isn’t doing anything.

EDIT: Actually, after finishing up the achievements for this instance I’ll go ahead and correct myself. The bite / head attack DOES knock you down (on the second hit, after throwing you into the air) if you don’t have stability. I just didn’t think it did because I must have had stability every time I got hit by it. Not that it makes too much difference either way, knockdown or no it does screw up your channel no matter if you have stability or not anyway.

It might be fun and interesting (to some people at least, of which I am not one) to have something like what you describe, IF the race was billed as that from the beginning and it was made perfectly clear that you would be treated with hostility and / or outright attacked at any time. I mean, I think it’d be better if it was a faction and not a race, as with a race you have some people who might want to play the race based on aesthetics or something but not want to be constantly hated on, where a faction is more of a neutral choice, but either way, the point is that it would need to be something introduced completely up-front.

However, taking a normal race and then suddenly changing the rules and saying “Hey, you’re going to be stomped on by other players now because the story says so, sucks for you” would be a terrible thing to do. Sure, it’d be “realistic”, you don’t always get to choose your lot in life and sometimes life thrusts you into unfair and unpleasant circumstances. But this is a game, not real life, and in a game that people play for enjoyment and to escape real life, people shouldn’t be punished for making a decision long before they even knew it was a decision beyond “I want to look like a tree person”.

Also, some enemies (like Risen) will almost always go after players and not pets, and there’s little you can do about it.

Stop Unisexing Charr and Asura

Yah, no. The reason they don’t use the female version is because neither the Asura nor Charr have breasts, so they’d have to change the model to use the female version anyway. And if they were going to change the model like that, then they should just make a custom set for those races rather than just slapping the human version on with little to no adjustments.

Which would be great, don’t get me wrong. I’d love to see more effort put into the armor models for Charr and Asura. But just saying “use the female model instead” is silly.

[Suggestion] Toxic Events

I’m fine with them still being there since they give you more Pristine Toxic Spres, but they could stand to be dropped down from group events to solo events just due to how many they are and where they’re placed, I think.

I’m not seeing the problem with Anet “advertising” news for the game you’re currently playing inside the game itself. Isn’t that by far the most appropriate place for it? “Gee, you like this game enough to finish this living story chapter, so maybe you’ll also be interested in this upcoming content?”. Seems perfectly reasonable to me. Its not like we’re getting an advertisement for NCSoft’s next big MMO or something unrelated like that.

And much better to have it in-game where everyone playing can see it than post it on Twitter or even here on the forum where plenty of people will miss it.

Turai Ossa's weapons?

They modeled them in-game, when they could have just slapped on a similar weapon and been done with it. So it definitely seems like there’s a chance they’ll appear as acquirable weapons at some point, Anet does love using every asset they make to the fullest.

New rune and sigil recipe

Sigil of Blight: 60% chance on critical to deal AoE poison. 2 second duration, 8 second cooldown.

Rune of the Defender isn’t on the wiki yet.

EDIT: Rune of the Defender.

1,3, and 5 are Healing Power.
2 grants 1 second of Regeneration when you block an attack (no cooldown listed).
4 grants 5 seconds of Aegis when you use your heal skill (10 second cooldown).
6 heals you when you block an attack, 30 second cooldown.

Decent guardian tanking set. Maybe for Engineers, too. Nobody else really has enough blocks to make it worthwhile.

Does Aegis count as a block? It shows “Block” on screen when it triggers, so I assume it does? In which case it would basically trigger itself every time you used your heal skill and give you some extra healing, at least for the #6 skill.

The #2 skill probably wouldn’t be very useful without profession-specific blocks, though.

The Sigil seems pretty meh. Duration on the poison is way too low. 2 seconds? I mean, I know its AoE and all, but that’s pretty pathetic compared to Sigil of Doom as far as poison application goes.

New BT Weapon Skins

I think they’re pretty decent. Using Modrem parts to make weapons fits nicely with the LS and they have a very unique look to them. Not a look that will appeal to everyone, certainly, but unique stuff is good regardless. When I saw the name (before seeing them in-game) I thought to myself “More plant weapons? Meh” but I think they did pretty well in making them quite different from any of the current plant weapons, and in fact many of them are barely plant-like at all.

I am a bit annoyed they basically reused the same blue glow / particle effect from the Dreamthistle weapons, though. The blue glow fit the Dreamthistle weapons because they were a fusion of Sylvari (plant) and Krait (water), and the blue glow is very water reminiscent. Here, though, it seems a bit out of place. We haven’t seen Modremoth itself yet so I suppose its possible Mordy will glow blue like that, but all the Modrem stuff we have seen (like the Cultivated Vine and that huge flower Modrem, not to mention all the vines that have been sprouting up all over the silverwastes) have been purple, not blue. So its kind of odd that these weapons glow blue, IMO.

Still, I’ll probably pick up one or two. I really like the torch in particular, has a really interesting flame with orange mixed with blue.

very few people in silverwaste

in Living World

Electro.4173

There are plenty of people in the Silverwastes as a whole.

Its just that most people don’t stick around in one instance to actually do the events for an hour and build up the breach. Everyone just goes on LFG and looks for one already close to breach once one finishes up. After all, there’s really nothing in the way the events are set up that actually encourages people to stick around. You get a few bandit crests, sure, but you get crests for trading parts from the breaches as well. You get bags of loot, but its 95% blues and greens anyway. Why stay in the same instance doing defense events and one breach an hour (rough estimate, I’ve never actually timed how long a decent map can go from 0% to breach) when you can instance-hop and get 3x that many.

I’m one of the people who actually would like to stick around and do the defense. I actually enjoy the coordination and everything. I enjoy the feeling of taking the forts and holding them against the hoardes of mordrem, feeling like an actual assault. But at this point even I spend 90% of the time instance-hopping, because its just not reasonable to do anything else. The alternative is to stick around in the same instance with a small handful of people, capturing and subsequently losing forts (and dying int t he process)due to lack of people while sloooowly building up the progress bar. Not particularly fun at all, lacks any coordination and just feels like one failure after another. And for what, so I can taxi people in once it hits 50%+ and have all the instance hoppers taking advantage of my work? No thanks. As they say, if I can’t beat ’em, join ’em.

What did you get from the final daily reward?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Electro.4173

I have absolutely no use for Legendary mats since I have no intention of making a legendary any time soon. And the Tomes option just seems like the “joke” option to me. I mean, a few days ago we got 4 of them for a normal daily, and if you choose them here you only get 6? Not very impressive for what’s supposed to be a special reward. I have little use for the Tomes anyway even if they did give you a lot of them, for that matter. So the only 2 I even considered were the Laurels and the Ascended Mats.

I went for the Ascended Materials because I’ve already got over 250 laurels just sitting around doing nothing anyway, and I because I figure you already get laurels from the daily login rewards anyway, where Ascended Materials is something a bit more “special”. Mind you, I don’t exactly use ascended materials either, as I’ve got far too many characters and sets of gear to really consider replacing everything with Ascended, but I do make the odd back item here and there, and there are a couple weapons I’d like to craft just for the skins. So I figured what the heck.

Got 2 Damask out of it, so that turned out pretty well for me. Decided to sell them since I’m a bit short on gold after picking up a couple of the Wintersday weapons.

Although after reading through this thread, I may go for Laurels in the future. I guess I haven’t looked into the uses for laurels much (I’m basically stockpiling them “just in case” at this point) and didn’t realize you could get so much gold for them.

Do you find the Tomes of Knowledge useful?

I have a growing stack of them in the bank that I don’t really expect to ever use.

I DO plan on making at least 2 more characters at some point. Holding off until they add another race to the game, which I expect that will happen at some point, and even if it doesn’t I’ll probably get tired of waiting and create characters of the last 2 professions I don’t have (Thief and Warrior) eventually. I’ve already got the character slots bought.

But I’m one of those crazy people who actually ENJOY leveling. I like going around various zones, doing zone completion and having my character get better as I go. I like the feeling of progression. So I won’t use my Tomes for that.

I mean, like you said, I guess I could use them for skill points, but I have more than enough skill points lying around as it is. I’m not one of those people who have hundreds upon hundreds of them on every character, but most characters have a good stockpile of 50+ at this point (and that’s on 6 characters). And most of the time I can’t really be bothered to do all the research and clicking required for turning SP into Gold (unless I’m really low on gold and in dire need of more). So more skill points aren’t really something I’m particularly interested in either.

I guess there’s black lion key runs, which the tomes would probably prove very handy for. But I’m not really into that sort of thing either, too much repetitive grind, and my crap luck would probably mean it wouldn’t be worthwhile anyway.

Not really sure what they could do to make them more appealing, though. Maybe they could allow conversion of multiple tomes into a trait unlock or something, that might be handy for players with alts and such in the new trait system. I could certainly see myself using something like that a lot more than using them for levels, at least. But that still doesn’t do much for people who have all the alts they want and no interest in more.

PVP and exotic water breather

I agree 100% TC. Having the only (reliable) way to get the Rebreather as PvP was incredibly silly.

The people who only do PvP won’t have any use for it. The people who don’t want to do PvP but could use a rebreather in PvE are forced into something they don’t want to do, and not just for a skin in this case as is the case with many other rewards, but something which actually has a tangible effect on gameplay.

I have no problem with PvP’ers getting rewards, certainly not. Everyone in any game mode needs to get good rewards. Even unique rewards, assuming they’re at least just aesthetics, are fine. But the rewards should actually be useful for the PvP’ers themselves, and they shouldn’t be anything which actually gives a gameplay advantage.
