I tried to get the tonic for both a Griff and Golem and it took my frame for both…both times it was unsuccessful. No tonics and no frames!
It should give you back a small present with the frame and some temporary tonics inside. Did you get a present?
Do you guys know how hard it is to get the endless griffon tonic? I’d love to craft it, but I don’t want to waste my frame
It seems to vary a lot. It took me three tries, some people get it on the first try, and some people have tried 50+ times with no success.
However, you always get the frame back if you don’t get the tonic. You also get some temporary tonics of that type.
The endless tonics are account bound. Not sure about the minis.
In my small sample of two people, it seems to be just as easy to get them. Took me three tries for griffin last night and my sister got it on the first try this morning.
Luck can be streaky, so I’d guess that the RNG is to blame rather than the numbers being tweaked.
I use the bell choir game. If you do well, you get 4 presents every time, and it takes about 10 mins. It’s very reliable for me, but some people have more trouble with it.
How many presents in about 10 mins can you get from farming the spawning ones?
Heh, at least you knew there was a chest at the end. I did the first two day’s events and didn’t realize until afterward that there was a reward other than the stuff that automatically pops on the screen.
me too- I laughed so hard when I found out!
Haha, that happened to me too on the first day.
I actually got an exotic longbow in the chest last night (more than 24 hours after previous chest).
So I’m usually a solo player. I don’t mind hopping in with people on events or chatting, but I don’t like to depend on other people to accomplish things.
So, I soloed the first Tixx dungeon (level 80 elementalist). It was difficult and took a while, but I did it. The second one I did with a friend and it was faster. Last night I wanted to do the fourth one quickly, so I found a PUG and did it in like 15-20 minutes. It didn’t require much teamwork at all, and was pretty easy to finish.
To those who like to solo, I’d suggest giving PUGs a chance for the holiday Tixx instance. It’s not difficult and a group makes it go a lot faster.
Just 3 tries and I got the endless Griffin. My first endless tonic.
It seems like Jeremy Soule created a GW2 “sound” that these composers are trying to continue.
Did you also do the two monthly Wintersday achievements? From what I understand, those count as well.
Can’t destroy this one, no matter how hard i try.
This piece is the one I needed to finish. I am on a warrior and I couldn’t destroy it with a weapon, I had to use Stomp to pop it.
So for all those people who said you don’t need it, I certainly did need it.
I couldn’t smash that one and I still got the achievement. The last remaining piece for me was a single plank sticking up out of the ground. I went around AOEing everything until I found it.
Haha, that is so cute!

Here’s the new Wintersday music:
https://soundcloud.com/arenanet/sets/guild-wars-2-wintersday-2012
Composers are Leif Chappelle, Maclaine Diemer, and Stan LePard.
If you follow the link I posted and then click on each individual song, you can see who composed them. The Great Toymaker was composed by Leif Chappelle:

Jeremy Soule didn’t compose any of the Wintersday songs. I read in another post that he left ANet.
ANet posted the music.

Yay!! Thanks, ANET! Thanks KniL for posting.
Top player is for the person with the highest score. It doesn’t give you anything special. I think you get 4 presents for any score over 500. You also don’t get anything special for a perfect score (600).
Oh, and there are achievements for hitting a certain number of correct notes in the game, so it may have been coincidence that you got it at the same time as the top player award.
1st time i got the 4 gifts i had scored 460. not sure whats the minimum you need, but certainly not 500.
Maybe it’s if you finish at least 4 rounds.
You get 4 presents if you make all 4 rounds without getting kicked for health dropping to 0.
But there are 6 rounds (6 songs)…. 100 points max for each round, giving a total max of 600 points.
I too wish the bell was a reward for getting 600 on all bell choir parts. It makes more sense than this random business.

So, I figured out how to record the music myself. I hook up my computer output to the microphone input, turn off all in game sounds except music, then open up audacity and record. The only problem is that I can’t hear it at the same time. Still, the main holiday song I was missing seems to start every time you exit one of the snow globe games into Lion’s Arch.
Tixx definitely sounds like Patton Oswalt to me too.
To me it sounds like Patton Oswalt.
The bells are my favorite part of the event. It’s so addicting and fun.
It would be awesome to see more musical instruments, and for them to not be super rare.
I finished the jumping puzzle once, but I’m not sure how often I would make it now. The bell choir gives me 4 presents every time… in 10 mins.
Awesome, thanks!!
Does anyone know if this can drop from the personalized presents you get from doing the bell choir game? I love the mini game and would love to have a personal choir bell. Or do they only come from the regular presents?
The bells are addicting and fun.
600 on lower, 596 (I think) on mid. High 500’s on upper, not sure exact score.
Oh, and the top player award doesn’t seem to give anything.
I found another one:

I thought I had done it, but no achievement. I scoured for a while, blasting AOEs everywhere, and finally found a single loan plank sticking up. Smashing it got me the achievement.
I don’t know what it’s called, but you can find just the audio on youtube here:

Perhaps the same computerized filter.
I want this music too!
I would love to be able to get the music too.
I was just talking about wanting this today. I miss being able to see what my character info looks like to other people.
I hope we get a new jump puzzle for wintersday, and I hope it will be even tougher.
Me too!
I made it on three characters, and they all got the same loot from the chest… the Mad King Slippers (soulbound), and two Halloween tonics (account bound).
I believe if you make it a second time with the same character, you only get trick or treat bags.
It took me 2.5 hours to beat the first time. At first I was very frustrated because it was hard, but now I’m glad it was such a challenge. It made it much more meaningful when I actually beat it. Learning the paths to take took practice and timing. I wish the puzzle was staying in game so I could play it some more!
Love it! Asura is my favorite race.
After I finished it with my main (Asura Elementalist), I completed it twice more.
Sylvari Ranger, no speed buffs – only 2 tries to finish!
Asura Thief, no speed buffs – 20 tries to finish
All my characters are the smallest models possible.
I loved the event. It was amazing. I just wish we had a little more time to enjoy it and finish everything.
I think what made this puzzle so frustrating for most people isn’t that it is hard, but that there was a very limited window in which to complete it. If we knew it was going to stay around after the event, there wouldn’t have been as much urgency to complete it. Some people may not have even had a chance to try it.
I loved the design and atmosphere of the tower. It was very difficult, but doable if you are very persistent!
At first, I just wanted to get the achievement. Then it just became an awesomely difficult challenge that I wanted to prove I could do. I knew I was making progress because I would start to get farther and farther in the puzzle (even with many setbacks) until finally I made it.
Then I proceeded to complete it on two more characters.
Asura (smallest model possible)
Elementalist – 10% air speed buff
Took about 2.5 hours.
I just wanted to mention that I received the Armorsmith version of the Superior Rune of the Mad King from a personal ToT bag from the kids in LA. It seems I was quite lucky since I only opened about 10 bags before it appeared. Then I proceeded to hand the kids about 400 more candy corn and only got food and crafting mats.
