Season 1 WvW reward Question

I suspect this is just a false rumor. Here’s why. The first, second, and third place servers in each league will get a trophy finisher. It is a trophy that looks like it has a dolyak on it:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/world-vs-world-midseasonreport/

I believe people have been referring to it as a dolyak finisher, when it is not the same as the sPvP dolyak finisher.

I'm sick of fighting the camera

I think a first person mode might help a little with this. I’m not sure if making walls transparent is a good solution because that can lead to exploits. However, with a first person camera mode (basically being able to zoom in all the way to first person), if your back is to a wall, at least you could go into first person mode to be able to see everything in front of you.

Obviously if you walk up to a huge building wall you shouldn’t see through the entire building. Why should my foward view be obstructed or changed if I back up to something? That is simply nonsensical.

A lot of the time the obstruction is a simple terrain item like a boulder or overhanging braches. Those should clearly go transparent.

I don’t think the camera angle should ever move unless I move it. However, if it does move, it should move to make my view better not worse. I can’t tell you how many times there’s been a small terrain change (like a small incline) and the camera readjusts to make look at the ground.

Why would I ever want to be looking at the ground? If it readjusts it should be to keep things at eye level.

I agree that smaller objects could safely be made transparent. The example given was for “objects”, and I assumed this applied to things like walls as well. This could be problematic, especially in WvW, for example. However, I think that the code to make objects transparent and not move the camera based on the terrain will be much more involved than adding a first person camera mode. That’s why I suggested it. I think it has a much higher likelihood of actually happening.

I..don't really care.

I don’t like krait. They are one of the more annoying mobs to fight. So I was not very excited about the last update and don’t care much about the upcoming one. That’s fine, as it leaves me more time to do other stuff I haven’t had time for.

What I am looking forward to is Wintersday, and I really hope the devs learned from Halloween that they can’t just repeat a bunch of old content for us to be satisfied. They need to add new stuff. And no ridiculous grinds please.

Clock tower not accepting last jump

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: ElenaDragon.8401

ElenaDragon.8401

PS – the 2-3 wasted minutes at the end of a “round” are incredibly irritating when I just want to get back into the puzzle. I don’t remember this happening last year (though maybe this is just bad memory).

This didn’t happen last year because it wasn’t a PvP activity last year. There weren’t any rounds, it just continued. I’m guessing they made it a PvP activity to be able to disable any passives, such as speed buffs. If it’s under about 1.5 mins at the end, it just ticks down because I guess there isn’t enough time to get to the top again.

If you’re eager to get back in and don’t care about activity credit, then you can leave the instance and enter a new one.

Extreme RNG on Toxic Dye Kits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ElenaDragon.8401

ElenaDragon.8401

The price could be higher because maybe less people are buying the dye packs. Personally I don’t buy any RNG items from the gem store (except a mini pack once in a while). Others have been getting burned by these RNG items and maybe that means less sales. Less sales means fewer dyes on the TP, which usually leads to higher prices.

Another possibility is that these colors are more highly desired than the flame and frost colors.

Was tempted to make a thread myself but I guess replying in here will have the same effect. I really do hope ANET read this post.

Ive been playing since launch and the one event I can always remember was Halloween 2012. The content was varied but not too much as to tie you down for long periods of time. After 4.5hrs I finally completed the Clocktower and I can honestly say it was the most worthwhile thing ive done in GW2.

Fast forward to two weeks ago and im all excited! The thought of new content gets my heart racing! Maybe a new Clocktower? Maybe a new/revamped dungeon? Maybe some more mini games to play and a whole new story? Well Halloween comes around and im thinking “okay….this is a little lackluster… but in a couple of weeks time maybe more Halloween content will be released!”. I was wrong.

Last Halloween was the best time ive had in GW2. This Halloween has been a shambles. Apart from the new story and 10 min instance (doesnt even classify as a boss fight IMO) there is half of the content of last year and even that is recycled! For so long ive defended the Living Story and said to countless people in my guild and in map chat that the Living Story was a very good way of making regular content. This Halloween is the first time ive been forced to swallow my words.

Its almost as if ANET didnt have a team working on Halloween just so they could get the Tower content out. In my opinion ANET should have given us a proper Halloween holiday of one month and waited with the Tower content until its officially over. Hell….you can easily tie the two stories together even! Mad King’s influence in the real world yada yada.

Im disappointed in ANET for not giving us a proper Halloween and hope that this isnt going to happen again with the other holidays.

Well said. This was exactly what I went through. I have been enjoying and defending the living story events and very much looking forward to new Halloween stuff after last year. I kept waiting for them to bring out the rest of the new stuff… and nothing. I’m disappointed with a major event for the first time in this game since launch.

Dailies, How do you play?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ElenaDragon.8401

ElenaDragon.8401

I usually look at the list of dailies and look for a few things:
1. Quick or easy ones, like crafting, laurel vendor, mystic forge, or ambiants.
2. What overlaps with something I was going to do anyway.

Often that will get all 5 for me, but sometimes I pick another and do it if I’m not up to 5 yet, like daily activity or puzzle jumper.

Downed state's Place in the game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ElenaDragon.8401

ElenaDragon.8401

As an elementalist, if I’m downed in PvE, I’m dead unless there are other players nearby (or there happens to be a mob with a tiny sliver of health left). Mist Form simply delays that death since mobs don’t deaggro. So it really only helps me in group combat.

Removing the downed state would mean they would have to rebalance the whole game around it, so I’m not in favor of that. I think they just need to better balance the downed state across classes.

What is ONE change you'd make to your class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ElenaDragon.8401

ElenaDragon.8401

Elementalist – weapon swapping. No other class has to pick between melee range and long range before even going into combat. Once we’re in combat, we’re stuck with what we have. If by some chance we have D/D equipped, we have no range options except conjures, which are limited. Changing to long range requires opening up the inventory and finding the other weapons to equip (having to run until out of combat before doing so).

apart from guardian…no you are right, no ranged option, so no choice I guess.

Unless I’m wrong, dagger on elementalist is 300 range. Scepter on guardian is 900. So a guardian can have both a short range and long range weapon equipped and switch between them in combat. If an elementalist goes into a battle with dagger equipped, we’re stuck at 300 range in combat.

well, yes a scepter is 900, but you wont hit anything that is moving, that walks away, or which is not totally stationary. So it may aswell be a melee weapon.
Its possibly the most useless weapon in the game for ranged combat. Its got some use, and its ok for solo pve, but for anything else its just plain pants.

Sounds like scepter could use some improvements then. Or maybe increase the range on staff? I’ve only played a guardian to mid 20’s, so I’m not as familiar with the class.

So I opened 100 Trick or Treat Bags.

"Stacking" on the Viscount of Candy Corn?

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: ElenaDragon.8401

ElenaDragon.8401

I believe the only advantage to stacking is that he usually puts a candy pool at his feet. It works the same as when you use the other pools, so I just ignore these people. If you use the candy pools to get the buff, you’re protected from the range attacks. I usually stand in the pool until I have about 7 or 8 stacks of the buff. If you hit 10, you get knocked down and have a cooldown on your skills. Once the stacks wear off (whether or not you hit 10), you have increased cooldown on your skills, but don’t get knocked down.

I find that staying at range makes it easier to avoid his other AOE attacks since you can more easily see the red circles and dodge them. It also makes the fight more interesting since you’re moving around more.

Inflexible Skin System

edit: on a side note, i remember LOTRO was amazing outfitting wise, in your hero panel you had panel with outfit option that would appear as skins while retaining the stat of the armor you were wearing. and it had a good wardrobe system.
check it out anet^^

Lotro has done this the best in my opinion. You had your stat armor and your looks armor, and both were contained in the hero panel, so no need to keep them both in the inventory either. I would be very happy if ANET did away with the transmutation stuff (maybe keep it for weapons?) and switched to something like this.

Mark’s comment pretty much confirms to me:

“There’s nothing else but Mad King’s return on the 31st planned for Halloween this year.”

The dungeon, Ascent to Madness, was part of last year’s story – the metas and scavenger hunt didn’t return, I doubt the dungeon will. Don’t look up for it, it’ll only be a disappointment.

Wow, I was really expecting more. This patch felt more like a teaser since most of it is from last year. I thought the mid October patch would have more Halloween stuff.

It doesn’t make sense to still be making these charge quartz, they haven’t made it worthwhile to use. If you’re still using celestial in a zerker gameplay, then you’re hurting yourself and others around you.

I’m sorry, in what world is Zerker the ONLY way to play? If people want to spend a lot of time to use Celestial Gear which is about as far from “Min/Maxing” as possible, and thus a beacon of obviousness that they could care less about speed runs, then by all means let em!

It’s only viable as ele armour, but why though? Zerker eles have the highest dps in the game.

Because some eles, like myself, don’t like dying to a sneeze that occurred from across Tyria… That and i couldn’t give a rats kitten about damage, i’m more of a supporty person myself…

PS: I don’t use Celestial Gear, i use Soldiers for now, will probably change that when i care enough to get a new set of gear, don’t have the time or motive to do so atm.

Same here. I also use Soldiers, and still die quite easily if I’m not careful.

Grand high viscount of candy corn...really??

in Blood and Madness

Posted by: ElenaDragon.8401

I will say that after doing the PvE instances for the Bloody Prince the candy puddles make much more sense, but not everyone participates in the Living World.

From what I recall, this mechanism isn’t introduced until the second Bloody Prince dungeon, which can’t be accessed until after the meta achievement has been obtained. Most people will be going into the labyrinth and fighting the candy corn to do this.

Perhaps a more obvious graphic would help. I tend to stay away from fields like that since they are often not beneficial, so I didn’t know until I read the forums. I have been sharing it in game and most people are quite surprised (and thankful) to learn about it.

Didn’t play last halloween. The clocktower took me 4 tries; definitely too easy
and a huge disappointment, especially after all those qq posts i read afterwards
last november. I thought it was supposed to be one of the hardest JPs in the game.

Southsun and the aetherblade one are harder by a large margin.

Southsun and aetherblade JPs didn’t exist at this time last year. At the time, it was definitely THE hardest JP in the game. That may not be the case anymore, but it is still quite difficult for the majority of the population.

griffonrook bombrun is much harder, tribulation rift,
scavanger’s chasm (urgh that one was hell), spekks lab is the same general idea and arguably harder, portmatts lab requires much more thinking (some might view that as harder without a walkthorugh) and last but not least obsidian sanctum.

these are old slightly to much harder than the clocktower and have been in the game from the start

I disagree. All of those were much faster for me to complete than the clock tower. I never watched a video walkthrough of the clock tower, so much of the difficulty was figuring it out as well as trying to jump without actually being able to see my tiny asura, all with a very short timer. Remember that last year there were about 10-15 people doing it at once, and all were full size opaque characters, not the translucent small wisps you see now. Plus, this was limited time content, which added additional pressure to complete it.

Some of us don’t want to be forced to run with a ZERG to do a holiday event. Zerg is WvW, shouldn’t be forced in PvE events. Unfortunately, you probably are right for that being the only way to do it, as I haven’t managed to get a PvE open world one to work properly.

Once again, GJ ArenaNet (dripping sarcasm)

Zerg is a term used in both PvE and WvW. It happens any time you have a large group of players trying to achieve the same goal. There is a zerg for Tequatl events, for event chains, and for champion farming. You could probably do the door events in the labyrinth with just a few people, but it goes much faster when a larger group is there.
