Honestly these days I think Engi is fine. If DD ele didnt exist, it would be the top spec, but it can still be beaten 1v1, and can be focused easily. DD ele on the other hand can not e countered in any way, doesnt lose any 1v1s, and has much higher kiting potential due to RtL and LF.

I probably shouldve posted this in the PvP forum, its obvious this forum is full of WvWers and Hotjoin Heros. “Stealth is broken”. LOL. “Mesmer counters ele”. LOL. I play Mesmer occasionally and Id like to think in good at it, but vs the best eles I have less than 50% chance to win. In the lower tier where terrible eles cant dodge mirror blade maybe it counters ele, but if the game was balanced around that then thieves would be even more nerfed, warrior woukd be more nerfed, etc. The game cant be balanced around terribads. Also to the guy above that said that “this elititst guy can say he can 1v1 eles but complains anyway”. That’s because I can beat an ele in an open field 1v1 over a period of 3-4+ minutes. In an actual game its impossible for me to beat one on point unless they’re AFK. I can kill a bunker guard faster. Obviously there’s a problem.

@Blackbear Caed and Sizer dont beat Eles 50% of the time. At this point you have no idea what you’re talking about. At top tier if an ele can kite well enough they have a 50% chance to 1v1 a necro.

1. Passively regenerate 30 HP/S.
2. Chance when hit to gain protection for 2 seconds (20s).
3. Passively remove a condition every 20 seconds.
4. Chance when hit to inflict 2 stacks of confusion for 5 seconds (20s)
5. Passively gain a boon every 10s.
6. Chance when hit to summon an Elite Rabbit (60s).

Dude what are you talking about? DD ele has an incredible amount of passives. Passively gain 12 might just from swapping atunements, passive soothing mist, passive heal, passive boons when attuning to an element. Sure they’re less passive than a necro’s nightmare runes, but pressing F3 to get regen and a 2k heal isnt difficult. Dodging in a fire field with earth isnt hard. There are no combos on DD ele that are hard… And LB ranger is passive now? LOL. OP does not equal passive, and only low level players think LB ranger is OP. Ele isnt hard to play. I literally watched Phantaram’s stream for 30 mins and became a master ele.

DD ele is quite possibly the most OP spec the game has seen yet again. The devs really need to understand that we cant go another 6 months until a nerf, we need nerfs now. DD ele is god tier 1v1, god tier 2v2, and A tier teamfighter. Its incredibly annoying to fight on any class, and works too well in every situation. I personally think we need a revert on water 3 change, a nerf to cele ammy, and a universal 10% decrease on signet of resto (universal meaning PvP and WvW). Also the trait that grants eles perma vigor is too OP, increase ICD to 7 seconds ao its still better than the minors that guard and mes have.

Ele is more faceroll than necro. Please please please go back to necro. Nobody wants more DD eles.

DD ele skillfloor is incredibly low and the meta spec as it is is the most overpowered cheesiest build in the PvP meta. The skillcap is also comparitively low as I can beat all “pro” elementalists 50% of the time and I barely play ele. If you really thought LB ranger was cheesey, I would advise against playing DD ele. Go play engi, its not quite as faceroll and is actually balanced while still being complex and fun to play. The meta for engineer is 60044 with rifle and hoelbrak runes. You can probably find a more in depth build if you go on the engi forums.

I have to agree with glock. SA last trait SR needs to be toned down by 100 HPS. SA as it is becomes a crutch to god awful players and Im sick of having useless idiots that cant rotate or teamfight in my team. Ive never seen a PD thief that was actually good, and Ive also never seen a DP SA thief that I would consider high level except maybe 1.

What is with all the QQ against mesmers??? Its not OP lol. Its one of the weaker classes and has been for some time, but more people complaining about mesmer than faceroll Cele ele. What’s happened to these forums…

Duel. This might sound rather different but the way I got good at the game was by dueling every single class, learning every single mechanic possible. Back when I was still average I used to sit in dueling arenas for most of the time I played and I would duel everyone. It really teaches you about the game in a way that SoloQ and even TeamQ doesn’t. You can learn rotational skill just by watching people, but mechanical skill is something that you have to develop. If you’re on NA and you want help I’d be willing to duel you a few times on any class and teach you stuff, just hit me up in game.

Also one other thing, pick one class and stick with it no matter what. If I hadn’t switched between ele mesmer and thief for my first 5-6 months of playing I would be significantly better at thief. Every class can fill many different roles. Especially since you’re playing warrior. No matter how much you get nerfed, just stick with your class, ultimately skill>class.

Also watch thelordhelseth and Sizer on twitch they’re the best players in the game :P

@RossBiddle you’re trying quite hard to defend PU aren’t you? There’s a clear difference between being a “scrub” and being CARRIED by a spec that is designed specifically to beat bad players. Furthermore bringing up that same idiotic article is getting quite old. Pyro, the PU spec has an incredibly low skill ceiling. I think you’re mixing up spec skill ceiling and personal skillcap. And really, I’ve never seen a PU mesmer that was actually “good” to the same extent that top players and duelers are. I’ve seen many very good shatter mesmers though. Shatter mesmer is also very viable in a team that has enough coordination to use portal perfectly and rotate fast and burst down key targets in coordination. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the top 2 teams EU, MiM and TCG, both have mesmers.

DD Ele isn’t just OP on a 1v1 scale, it’s OP on every scale. That’s all Ill say.

Why would you 1v1 an engi on point as a thief? Sure you can win it but most of the time it’s a waste, especially if they’re camping on far point, just let them.

WvW is much different than PvP for starters. I have a 50% win rate on my Offensive Guardian in PvP – we just dont have the base skills as someone pointed out. A guardian in PvP is most likely a bunker for point control.

I have a 80% win rate against all classes in WvW and I run an offensive power build (Not Medi). That is against Gold, Silver and Bronze level players so I am not fighting scrubs all the time.

Guard is the challenging class in the game because it will test your patience with being a support person or test your will with being a damage class.

Even Hotjoin PvPers are much better than most “Gold” level WvW players. Source: R109 WvW from roaming.

Guys, Considering Abjured is about even with TCG, CM would’ve gotten roflstomped if they had faced either team.

If you’re losing hot joins it’s probably because you’re either a PvEr or new to the game. Its fine, just practice more and you’ll get the hang of it, but really hot joins aren’t the best place to improve skills. You should really just TeamQ by yourself. I would recommend TeamQ because above top 200ish TeamQ it’s a bunch of ransoms that are actually worse than SoloQers. Once you get to a certain level hotjoins are incredibly easy to win. When I do hotjoins I literally Zerg to every point, wipe the enemy regardless of what class/spec they’re playing, and then Zerg to the next point. I can 1v2 half the time.Too easy :P.

Yes playing PU makes you a scumbag. Does it matter anymore? Probably not, because DD faceroll ele and cele engi are almost as scumbag. Passive fear necro is more scumbag.

To the guy above though, you’re just wrong. While the build does not always define a player, PU is an incredibly low skillcap spec, shatter has much higher potential and is better in general for a team. However the game is still at the point where people in SoloQ can’t actually think about what’s going on in the map, so PU mesmers like Pyro can get into top 100 SoloQ because idiots just 2v1 him all day. Typical SoloQ.

Many players on a much higher level than you have already said in this thread that mesmer is fine. Furthermore you keep stating the same false claims that mesmers are good at 1v1 and can 1v1 bunkers. It’s not a matter of opinion anymore when several players that know much more about the game and TPvP than you say you’re wrong.

The reason cele fights take so long isn’t because their doing “magical combos and working together”. It’s because they are all self sustaining bunkers that can kite, DPS, rotate on and off point, have high mobility, and HIGH SUPPORT to keep teamfights going forever. It doesn’t take skill to play such a comp.

What makes you think SD is unviable? In a team role generally DP can burst harder and is better in 2v2 and 3v3, however it can’t 1v1 anything except other thieves and mesmers. SD can push far much better, has more survivability and can 1v1 almost anything. Different roles, I like SD more. The nerf last patch did nothing at all. 20066 is still very strong

What? I know after patch everyone including me ran around saying thief is trash but really it’s still the 3rd strongest class. Sure ele is over the top but thief still has a unique role that cannot be replaced. Class is fine, the best thieves will always adapt.

This November balance patch shows basically nothing. They didn’t nerf cele ammy and autofear necro. They buffed random stuff. Only good thing is nerf to bearbow ranger.

Since they’ll be missing 2 players I think it’s safe to say TCG will win.

Because in their November balance patch, ANet didn’t want to shake the meta! It would’ve been too much for the players to handle! Really though, I don’t understand why they didn’t nerf cele ele even now. They also left autofear necro untouched. I really thought there might be some new direction with such a sudden balance patch, but ANet basically did nothing good except nerf bearbow.

For those of you that don’t know me, I am Teef Teef Teef Teef! I am a very skilled player that has reached very high rank in soloQ and I have very high rotational skill and knowledge of how a team functions! I consider myself one of the most mechanically skilled thieves in the game, as I have fought and beaten basically every single thief that PvPs! I play with the sword dagger weapon set as I feel it offers a greater variety of 1v1 situations than DP and also has a greater presence in teamfights! However I can play DP if requested! I can also play the elementalist class at a high level, but other than that I cannot play anything else at a high level :/! I am 16 years old so I cannot participate in international tournaments, and I have a busy schedule so I can only practice an hour a day on weekdays, but on friday-sunday I can play 3-4 hours a day. Basically Im just looking for a TPvP team for now. Perhaps in the future we will be able to do weekly’s and other events.

Thief is a solid class. Doesn’t need changes.

After seeing the Abjured face TCG today, I must say that I’ve ben wrong all this time. Although TCG did win one match, it was very close, and it has really shown me that NA does stand a chance against EU. I apologize to all members of the Abjured that I have BMed several times. From his point on I will also attempt to be less of a contributor to the toxicity of pvp, both in game and on the forum. I am still rooting for TCG, because I learned how to play the game by watching Sizer, but I understand now that other teams stand a chance, and wish all teams luck.

LOL at backpack saying Caed can beat Sizer 1v1. Not trying to insult Caed but Sizer is much better at 1v1s and S/D vs D/P is equal. Obviously Backpack wouldn’t know that because he’s not actually best multiclass NA and is average at everything except engi. In teamfights Im going to assume TCG keeps tabs on all members of the opposing team, so no mega ganks from Caed. Also Tage can hold 1v2 vs double cele ele for a long time, and can hold any 1v1. Helseth can 1v1 Oeggs both eles and maybe Nos depending on how well he kites. I dont understand why you people assume TCG will simply take 2v2s that abj. gives them when they can easily rotate mesmer/thief in extremely fast while ele/guard or ranger/guard hold 2v3 for at least a minute unless Nos is there, but Nos is usually in the 2v2. None of you people arguing for abj. are taking into account portal allowing for instant rotations for TCG, and high mobility forcing either freecaps all day or someone camping home and being ignored all game. EU rotations are far superior to NA as well.
Sorry if some of this post doesnt make sense, I wont bother rereading it because I dont feel like it.

At first I thought maybe that your statement might be true. However, think about it really. I dunno about Apex, but most other teams run double ele and engs and warriors. Do you really think there was such a high population of eles before? Its rather hard to believe that. It’s pretty obvious that most of those players just bandwagoned over to the most OP class. NA is basically comp wars because they just 2v2 and whichever comp is better at that wins, while EU is actually about outrotating opponents and winning teamfights. And individually there are very few top level players on NA at the same level as people on EU teams. I would argue that no warrior on NA is as good as Rom, no mesmer on NA is near as good at Helseth(rotational) and I could give many more examples.

The reason EU runs thief/mesmer/guard comps is because they have the ability to properly rotate the guardian to teamfights and have the thief mesmer combo be able to coordinate bursts. NA runs cheesy cele comps because they lack basic abilities such as bursting down targets and winning teamfights, so they just force 2v2s and 3v3s that last forever. EU also tends to have better players individually as well. Basically its a skill issue.

All opinions I have shared in this post are merely observations, I am not biased towards any side. I am on NA as well, so no inherent bias towards EU.

I have no idea who this Nova Stiker guy is, but it is rather sad how bad “pro” eles are. Thaddeus, Skovex, Phantaram, they all seem to basically be at the same level of elementalist as someone who has played it for a month. Now, I don’t generally see better eles because the class is so easy to play and offers no incentive to get better, but hey, that’s what this game is about now. #celewars2 for the next 6 months until feature patch 3.

So after reading this thread, this Nova Stiker guy seems like a troll/guy that thinks he’s good but is average. How are you supposed to beat any type of engi/insert condi class here without cleansing water? You could argue Tpvp isn’t about 1v1s but then what if you get focused in a team fight, which will happen vs a good team once they find out you’re running a yolo triple arcane build. Other than signet, what are you going to run? Ether? Lol what a joke. It’ll get you killed for sure. Glyph is probably 2nd worst heal in the game.

Im fairly certain ele has nerfs incoming already, the devs have recieved a lot of feedback on the issue. Of course the faceroll OP eles will defend their class, the class attracts those kind of people these days, the ones that want to be mega OP. have fun getting nerfed next feature patch, I’m sure its going to happen.
