DD Ele is very strong right now. Arguably the strongest class, but it’s not OP because all the classes are so balanced atm.

I stopped caring about other peoples’ opinions after a turret engi called me bad for beating him 1v1 on thief.

Because nobody plays ranger. I think with a certain comp it could very good, but no top players play power ranger except Eurantien.

How bout that zerker shoutbow though? Medi Guard+Shoutbow is a really strong 2v2, sounds like a player skill issue.

I think equal skill thief vs condi necro is about 60/40 in favor of the Thief. I think it’s a relatively balanced matchup though. In terms of the OP, you’re not that good dude. I know you run around saying you won the leaderboard or whatever but mechanically you’re pretty weak.

Teams lose so many matches by giving the other team free neut or full cap on home point. You always have to defend your home point (except sometimes when they zerg it).
However, that doesn’t necessarily mean sitting on it. But you still have to keep an eye on it and defend it in time.

Many soloQ games have been lost by going nuts deep into mid only to get 2 capped despite killing everyone. By the time you get back to home, they’re off respawn and now your team is in a very bad position.

Im gonna delete my first post.. honestly I actually liked the video when I first saw it, I was under the impression that Ross was really bad but it turns out his rotations and awareness were decent. I just kinda followed the hate train after BlackDevil came in. I apologize to the OP for all the shots I may have fired.

Im not trying to act Elitist/Mean/Whatever on purpose (I know my account name might say otherwise), I just think that the OP bases his build too much on average play. I actually made a signet phantasm build the other day that was alright, but to say that build could replace shatter just isn’t a valid statement. I don’t think that Phantasms and interrupts in the form of dazes really go well together, and I think scepter is just awful. Its nice that OP made a fun build, but to go around saying it’s an incredible build and that top tier mesmers can’t think outside of the box… IDK.

The reason Condi mesmer isn’t viable is because there isn’t a single thing you can do that a necromancer can’t do. Mesmer has Condi burst? Not even close. 700 DPS from 3 bleeds and 2 torment isn’t DPS or burst. 2k DPS from 7 bleeds, poison, and fear, that’s burst, and on top of that they’re CCed as well and have chill, cripple, and tons of other cover conditions. Don’t even try to compare condi mesmer and shatter mesmer DPS.

The problem these days isn’t one turret engi. It’s when a team has 2 turret engis and that’s when it gets beyond overpowered because you CANT ignore 2 points so you’re forced to create an outnumbered situation for your team because you can’t beat a turret engi with even numbers.

If you take Hman out, then the top 10 is good. Top 50 is a complete joke I beat 90% of those guys in 1v1 and 5v5. I counted only 13 people in that list that I would consider mechanically good.

66200 also has almost 0 defense too.
Go try one in Ranked que and see how successful you can be.
Turreters can go all defensive while turrets are up, but ranger is a complete different story with huge risk when go for offensive.

I’ve played every class including ranger extensively. It’s not hard positioning in a way that nothing but thief/mes/off guard can get to you, and then you have block, invuln, swoop. I don’t consider anything inherently “hard to play”. Im just saying on ranger you can sit on a ledge 2,000 range away and hit 2.5k auto attacks on someone all day. You literally spam 1 and 2 until someone comes to chase you. Pretty effortless…

Meditation guard. DPS class just like thief/mes but is incredibly easy to play. Its literally 2 buttons 2 win, Ring+JI in teamfights= RIP.

WL ratio is a large indicator of skill given a large sample size.. 200 games definitely shows there’s a lack of skill on the player’s part.

Only thing that really needs a balance change is turret engi. Celestial is fine.

I’d rather not see reveal go back to 3s and have a large influx of WvW SA Thieves camping stealth all day trying to 1v1 people. Also DD Thief is no good in PvP for several reasons other than the reveal being longer.

Low MMR play as a thief shows absolutely nothing about the way the class plays at a higher tier. 53% WR at low MMR is incredibly easy to get. I play at high MMR all day and regularly face premades and still have 60%+ WR mostly soloQing. That isn’t even on thief, most of my games since reset have been guardian/warrior/necro.

To be fair, Condition thieves are pretty strong attrition builds. They’re just no good in Conquest due to stealth giving up the capture point.

I wouldn’t say that they suck because they give up cap points. They suck because there’s nothing they can do that a necro can’t do better.

I do think that Thief is overpowered in the sense that it kills too many specs. But at the same time I don’t think there’s a way to nerf the class without killing it vs the current meta. The only way to fix it would be a complete rework.

Farm with a 5 man until you get your MMR to the highest tier. Proceed to have a good game every game

PvP and WvW are way more fun than PvE… IMO this game has awful PvE. The best part of this game is the combat system, and the only game mode which fully utilizes the combat system is PvP. PvE all you do is farm dungeons all day and do the (awful) story.

Its like this in every game. For example in League, although I don’t play it much, there’s basically a meta build for every champion. I can’t run around with AD Ahri and expect to do much. Same in GW2. Obviously you play some crap build. There are non-meta builds that are good, but if you just make something random OF COURSE it’s bad lol.

Ghost, I never use armor of earth against necro unless I know they’ve blown CB. It’s not that hard to survive a necro burst on ele tbh, I just save water for the fear. I can tank poison+3 bleeds from LW+Soothing+Regen, it comes down to just using cooldowns to avoid dark path and then training the necro. Obviously vs the majority of eles that just copy the rotation a necro can win, but I’m referring to top vs top. Also, open field necro has the advantage. Karina kited me the whole time and the times he won he got me to blow cooldowns trying to catch him and then DS bursted me. You can’t kite on point, I would’ve dominated there.

If I count correctly, two people said that between cele ele and terrormancer it is 50-50, one said that it is 60-40 in favor of the ele and one that it is 70-30 in favor of the ele (on staff). Noone said that the necro has an advantage.

Also, a necro is not good against a mesmer. But even if you don’t believe that, blanket statements like ‘necro wins 100% of the time’ are not exactly plausible…

Those are personal experiences, hence why they are all over the place. Also, you are only counting terror. This is a Necro post in general and counts in power as well, not just terrormancer. Also you base your conclusion on what 3 people said? Show me on that list people in the top tier that said ele beats necro. Most of the results (if using that thread) you will find at best is a 50:50 combining both builds and situation. Only way they ele ever wins is if they LOS a lot (true and stated many times in that thread you are referencing). That requires them to get off point and loose it, to win. Everyone that stated ele wins said they LOS the necro. Can’t do that on point, and as a reminder, this is a point game. Either way it won’t be the fastest fight in the world. Option 1: Ele gets off point to try to win the fight, point goes neut and before the fight ends most likely someone on either side would have shown up. Option 2: Ele tries to defend the point and dies due to not being able to LOS. Power necro will tear through the ele and a terror mancer will corrupt your Armor and u are screwed as well. If you remember right, we are talking even fights, therefore everyone has their CD’s.

Either way doesn’t really matter. Necro would only be in that situation unless he absolutely had to. Necro would be better used in a 2v2 + anywhere else on the map and the team would benefit more from it.

There is 1 post from a top tier Necro in there that states Necro wins (terror and power) unless LOSed a crap load. There is 1 post from a top tier Ele in there that said Ele wins unless their Armour gets corrupted and power necro will always win. With all CD’s, that means necro wins unless ele can get lucky and miss the corrupt. You looked at ratios and didn’t read what anyone wrote.

Well you did start out with the claim that a necro is a hardcounter to a cele ele and anyone saying otherwise should learn their class. While I agree that the sample size in the thread I quoted was small, I think that it (and the severe underrepresentation in the current tourney play) is quite sufficient to disprove that. I focused on condi necro because power necros are doing better (while still not being a hardcounter to cele builds).

Back to what the original purpose of the thread was: I submit that the changes I suggested above are reasonable. In fact, almost none of them affect the current terrormaner build, they might however make other builds viable.

In my experience a good DD ele has the upper hand vs terror necro. I was dueling Karina, one of the best necros yesterday, I won 3, he won 2, and those were in open field and the ones where I died I played unusually aggressive. On point I would’ve been unbeatable. Power necro stands almost no chance against a good DD ele. You have to proc CoD when they have no CDs and then get guaranteed dagger autos to win. You also have no way to bait LF to get out of wells. Most power necros dont even get me to 50% to proc CoD LOL.

Warrior is one of the few classes which can completely negate Quickness (Which is still good with the class if played as DPS) trade-off therefore having ridiculous cleave if you know how to land 1/2 casting time stuns and 130 range. Warrior is also one of the few DPSers that can stand on a point for more than a few seconds compared to Thief and Mesmer for example, which means Warrior as a DPS can allow your team to stand off point for a bit and then re-engage.

The problem with DPS Warrior is that it can’t abuse vertical axis teleport so it has no mobility, it doesn’t have better escapes either, and it’s DPS isn’t the most reliable DPS to land to down someone in the first place. But this is balanced by the fact that they can face-tank focus fire as a DPS AND can cleave downed bodies better.

P.S People calling Warrior low skill floor just because of shoutbow are stupidly ignorant and has never played chain CC DPS Mace/Shield + Axe/Mace before.

You would think so, but the thing is, the current group of “top PvPers” basically make teams out of the same people. There isn’t really much of an opportunity to get into that circle because everytime someone makes a team, they pick someone they’ve played with before or someone that is “known”. There’s a lot of people that I think could be on a team but they just can’t find a way to get on to a good one. Im kinda stuck in that situation as well.
