I am enjoying HoT very much, love the Reaper and Dragon Hunter (but the Druid needs work). I have done lots of Dragon Stand, Auric Basin, and Verdant Brink runs and metas. I have yet to complete the Tangled Depths meta but I did manage map complete there which was a challenge. I like all the new collections and I am working on a number of weapons including precursers, but I hate having mastery points and collection items behind ridiculously hard adventures. Mini games should be OPTIONAL. I hate the stress of timers, the game should be fun not stressful.
ANET can you make some mini-game easier????

I have not hit the mastery point wall yet (close) but I did hit the collection wall this weekend. I needed a Silver in Fallen Masks as part of the Dark Harvest collection and I was raging mad but finally got it. The RNG is just ridiculous because most of my precious time was spent seeing where the next mask was. The mini map only gives a rough idea and the verticality of the map made it really frustrating blowing a ton of time almost every run on one or two masks I took forever to spot. If the route was fixed I know it would get a little boring but you could actually learn it and get better at your times.
I really really hate timers on anything so I avoid that content as much as possible so my biggest complaint is that these adventures are required for collections/masteries.
Timers are not ‘fun’ when they block progress.

Economy Fail: price to high, gold too rare
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Elric Of Melnibone.4781
So before the release of HOT, i’ve read a post saying that they were gonna change the economy. The value of gold would raise, so they nerfed the liquide rewards on dungeons (wich was the main source of gold for PVE players). That being done, the prices would decrease.
A month after the expension, did it work? HEEELL NO
Gold is harder to get, now instead of a fifteen minute dungeon you have to do meta events but the price haven’t moved.
You still need 300 po to get a tag, you still need a huuuuuuge pack of gold for guild halls.
Which mean that if you want to survive in this economy (lol) you need to buy gems with real money.Yes, in order to play the game (as it is intended), you need to use your credit card.
(That is why a lot of people are going back to wow by the way).THis is another exemple of an Anet Idea followed by poor execution.
Lowering the economy isn’t bad per se, but with an execution that bad, you are just ruining the gameYou’re wrong and just making up that conclusion as it’s the only one that fits your narrative that you keep posting on the forums. There’s more than one way to make gold in this game. Players do not need to buy it. What you haven’t realized is that players can farm the items that are valuable and then sell them on the TP.
I have been playing since GW2 Beta. I have two legendary weapons (NOT from drops) and full ascended gear on five or six of my alts and I have NEVER bought gold with gems. I have bought plenty from the gem store and I also have never bought gems with gold. I only pay for skins and stuff like extra storage. Only lazy/busy/rich people buy gold with gems and they are allowing the rest of us to play pretty much for free.
(b) All maps being timer synched. Which means if you log on 10 minutes too late you might well have to wait 2 hours before you can have the next go. If you only have 2h or so of play time …
I think this is actually a good thing. The timers let you sit down, see what is happening across the jungle maps (including Dry Top), and ‘plan’ your session somewhat. I still have TONS of things to do, some little, some big and I have plenty of little things to work on while waiting for the biggest timers, and ONLY DS has a start window to worry about which is actually bigger based on peak times. Off hours maybe only one or two maps might fill so you have to be on time, but I have gotten in many times in the 30-45 minute window. Much later than that and you just don’t have enough time to complete it unless everyone is doing the right thing. All the other maps you can join really late as many people just don’t feel like doing all the setup events, but those that do need the help of the masses for the final assaults and they taxi people in. It’s win-win for everyone.
The timers also align the PvE population very nicely. Imagine what DS would be like without a schedule? How would you ever get enough people together and organized? DS is really a mega pug that forms every two hours. I think it’s working really well. You only need a handful of people who know what they are doing to organize everyone else assuming they listen.

some places that are only reachable by gliding are nearly impossible to reach as there is always a delay til the glider opens (even if i keep the space bar pressed) – and so i reach my destination a few inches below the edge (eg. the final reward chest in DS).
That last platform in DS should be easily reachable if you catch the huge updraft nearby. The trick I had to learn was to keep yourself in the updraft for the full lift. If you get all of it you can glide to the middle of that platform easy.
If you have glider leaning, you should always pull back when entering the updraft and if distance is a concern DO NOT use lean forward unless you have advanced gliding. You go faster but burn your endurance bar and cannot glide as far at speed.
The DS point of interest in question can be reached with a hop-glide off the nearby mushroom to a nearby rock you can then glide from to get to the PoI.

I just happened to see someone on YouTube doing the Tarir JP and I just cringed at how much torture I would have to put myself through to do that one. I HATE HATE HATE timed jumping. The VB Master Point JP was not that bad as I took my mesmer and put up a safety portal many places along the way, and I sure used them. Time was not a factor thankfully, but with Tarir your on a stupid timer, so just like Mad Kings all that pressure is sure to have me rage quitting.
I am actually not a bad jumper on a human/sylvari and I have done every JP but Mad Kings although there certainly has been some mesmering along the way to prevent the excessive starting over.

What if there was a new PvP panel that let you specify and absentee ballot or map preference list which ‘auto’ voted for you AND you where NOT allowed or required to accept the match if you queued outside of PvP or left PvP when you got bored in the queue?
Basically you pre-sign an agreement that whatever I am doing when it’s finally match time just yank me into the match with my vote already cast. If you still need an accept to verify I did not fall asleep while waiting then pop that up first, or if I happen to be loading when my number comes up then I get bumped from the queue.
On a related note, please set everyone to ready when they load so we can get the match started the second the last person loads (plus a few seconds maybe) rather than always having to wait the full two minutes because someone was to lazy to click ready.
Where can I go to farm mastery exp?

So you would rather kill spiders for an hour than do the Dragon Stand Events? I only crashed twice in Dragon Stand and then I set my textures to medium and have not crashed since. So many people are complaining about how ‘grindy’ HoT is, but I find it exactly the opposite. I have more things I want to be doing than I have time for every night and I am just a few events from having over 50 mastery level.

Do the Dragon Stand meta for a whopping 130K experience or 200K if you tack on the 50% experience booster. That is not counting all the kill streak and event bonuses you can earn getting to the final event. I just earned almost 1M on ONE run. Bring some machettes for noxious pod farming when done. You will need updraft in gliding for the final event to get around.

All you need to do is get to dragon stand in the first 30 minutes of the event or so and user the LFG tool to taxi into an organized map. People know so well what to do now it almost always succeeds. You will need updraft mastery at a minimum, but you need that anyway for the last battle. From the final chest spot simply glide north without leaning (assuming you even have leaning) towards the big vine and land just left of the big thorn sticking up. It’s a bit tight, but very doable.
This event blocks Twilight (Dusk) crafting, and not many people are complaining about it so it must not be failing that often. I got it done my first or second time waiting around for it so it’s not completely bugged. I also did a number of the events in the area hoping they where a trigger or related and a handful of people showed up the moment the event started so one of them might have triggered it.
Is the Twilight Collection set still bugged? I heard they were fixing bugs this coming Tuesday and I just got the third legendary crafting mastery. I don’t want to start until I’m sure that it will:
A: Be less expensive overall than just buying dusk off the trade post
B: Not have to worry about any quests so that I can do everything without posting a compliant on the forums.
Tier 1 had one major quest bug which was fixed and one minor bug that one event was not real reliable, but I got through it first try although I did have to wait around a long time. Tier 2 seems to be working so far, almost half done but gated by daily crafting limits. I am crafting all the materials myself, only buying raw materials and only with offers so cost should not be as bad as people are complaining about. I have no idea about Tier 3 for bugs or cost and I am weeks away from finding out. Hopefully any quest bugs will be worked out by then.
Dragon stand is pretty long and to crash in the final phase and not be able to rejoin is just plain kitten. When will these crashes be fixed? Clearly something is bugged on that map as it is the only place I have crashed since release.
Map participation when changing map ip
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Elric Of Melnibone.4781
The change map logic is clearly broken. Supposedly it pops up all the time in Dragon Stand even though the map is clearly very well populated. If you stupid enough to click it you lose all your progress. I have not however seen it come up in the other maps when not appropriate. Yet another bug they need to fix pronto.
The problem with Ranger is most content in HoT is NOT one on one so your pet tank is pretty useless when your surrounded with vines lobbing poison at you, or mushrooms lobbing acid at you or Rangers DPSing you from three different directions or stuff charging you or rolling over you…
I have done fine with my Necro and Guard as each have tons of survival mechanics and my Dragon Hunter Guard is really a better ranger than my Ranger/Druid. The Dragon Hunter longbow has much better skills than the Ranger.
All of the people who paid for the feathered wings before HoT where given FREE a matching glider. They could have charged us for that, and most would have gladly paid for it, but instead they made lots of people like myself very happy. So technically that was three skins with HoT, not one. If the Exalted skin was dyeable I would buy it as well for some other characters and I would prefer to do that rather than having to wait until I have gotten tens of millions of experience.
Masteries give you actual abilities, not bling.
HoT mastery/xp from something instanced?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Every time our guild gathers for missions in the guild hall it’s a continuous stream of map loads, and then when we use the portal in the guild hall to go to a mission we get spread to the winds again and spend 5-10 minutes taxiing everyone in. They have a lot of work to do on this, and DS is a prime example where a completely new mechanic is needed.
SW is more dragonite heavy, but you do get a fair amount of empyreal, but you do NOT get HoT mastery progress. It is fantastic for the core Tyria masteries, especially if you get all your experience boosters fired up.

Worries about the future of Guild Wars 2
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Elric Of Melnibone.4781
Let me start with the positives. I am really enjoying the mastery system. You get to choose which masteries to work on and each gives you a little boost, often a major boost in what you can do. Some of these gate your story line, some of these gate parts of the new maps. I do not feel they are a grind at this point as I am at level 18 in just over a week. I find myself looking forward to some of the higher end masteries and it’s something to work on over time. I have found the first zone to be very well populated with both players and events and other than the Itzel Archers the difficulty has been very reasonable. Not every event succeeds and you do have to move on in a few cases here and there, but often just popping a commander tag will draw in enough to complete the event.
I find the look and diversity of the second and third areas to be very nice however I do see problems with them. The complexity of the first area is refreshing, but the second area raises that bar considerably, and forget about the third area. Tangled Depths is an understatement. The strengths of the foes in those areas is alarming in many cases and just getting through an area is a huge challenge sometimes. Combining the high death rate with the tangled complexity makes exploration extremely daunting, let alone attempting any of the events. Player population is very low to non existent. I don’t know if it’s because it’s to early or due to Halloween, but I am similarly concerned that map wide events may rarely get completed. Roaming mobs have been brought back from GW1 and while that is cool, again the difficulty is upped even more.
My friend is one of these top 100 achievement addicts and I needed him as a guide to get me through the Hero Points and other interesting places in the second map. I still have NO idea what the meta map events are, what they unlock, or even where to go or how to help out. I do not understand how people can complain there was not enough content with this expansion, there is more than enough if you can figure out how to get to and survive it all. I think the real problem is going to be a lack of players that will persevere long enough to master these higher level areas.
Probably been mentioned a thousand times already in this thread, but nothing is been done about it, so PLEASE FIX Modniir Ulgoth so we can move ahead in our Twilight Collection 1!
PLEASE FIX THIS! Precursor crafting is a long enough process, waiting for bugs should not be part of that time!
Many things I have truly enjoyed but I would like to make a special thanks for the Feathered Glider wings that get offered to you when you first come into Verdant Brink.
“Would you like a feathered wings glider skin to go with your feathered wings backpack?”
Well, hell yes I would thank you!
Suggestion: Number of masteries completed
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Elric Of Melnibone.4781
Yes, but some masteries are much harder than others and the system today reflects how much work you have put into it rather than just a count. Having five tier 1 masteries is not the same as having five masteries from the same line.
Thread should be merged with:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Got-100-map-completion-on-VB-no-reward/first
My friend completed Verdant on two characters last night and did NOT get any rewards which greatly concerned me as I expected we would get a pretty good reward for completing these new much tougher maps. Now I am glad I did not try and complete it last night as I easily could have. Glad to hear there should be a reward, but not that it’s bugged.
I logged in fine earlier this morning and was able to play a few hours before the servers where taken down.

90 Mastery is on the order of 90 MILLION experience, so I don’t think that’s even remotely possible in the 6 days since launch without some kind of exploit. He must be talking about Hero points of which there are supposedly 400 of in HoT so 90 is only 9 HoT Hero challenges.
I went on a crazy wild GW1 Lornar’s pass style run the other night and had a blast until I hit the piranhas. The first time I had no idea why I died, but the second time I understood. They can be found in the deepest depths of Tangled Depths.
Just stopping degen does not seem like enough. It takes forever to charge up, then when you use it, it’s gone so quickly it was hardly worth the wait. One third of all your traits for a weapon that seems pretty lame and a mode which you hardly ever get to use.
AF seems completely useless as is so something needs to change. It takes forever to charge up, then once you take it you can only get a few skills off before it’s gone again.
My Necro loves the Death Shroud and can be in it almost all the time, why is AF so hard to get?
Druid is an optional elite specialization, so no you don’t have to choose to be a Druid. I think I am going to give up the staff and get my greatsword back as Druid seems completely useless at the moment.
At this point the only nice thing for Rangers in HoT are the new pets. The Fiery Wyvern is nice.
The wiki had a terribly short description which was taken down because it was neither helpful or accurate. Has anyone found them yet?

New Legendaries need PvP & WvW, and it's ok.
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Elric Of Melnibone.4781
True, but this is a casual friendly game and making Legendary gear accessible to only the best players is not very friendly. I do think requiring some level of mastery in all parts of the game is reasonable, but where you set that bar is tough to please all.
I liked for example that Gift of Exploration used to force you into every vista in WvW, but that was not really fair to players on tier 1 servers where you might never get into a certain stronghold. Even on my lower tier server it took quite some time to hit all the red/green/blue objectives but it made it a fun achievement to get.
Don’t get me wrong I hate PvP, but I will put my time in there to get my tokens unless the amounts are ridiculous, then I will just buy them. The counter is PvP players now have a potentially nice income stream.
Once you get used to being able to glide it will be sorely missed on all the other maps. How many cliffs will you jump off, hit space, and fall to your death?

I don’t like WvWvW a all. It looks like:
1. find zerg
2. join them
3. find enemy zerg.
4. cast Meteor Shower
5. collect rewards
6. Die in lags.
7. repeat p1.
So. How many times i should repeat this for legendary?
If that’s the way you play WvW then maybe that’s why you don’t like it. Find a good WvW guild with voice chat and a good commander and it can be incredibly fun. Friday night on a server with spirit is the best. The real challenge is finding that guild.
From what I understand your beta characters are playing with a full copy of everything so you cannot alter anything in your normal account. Try taking the gear out of the bank with the beta character and I bet your normal character will still see it there.
Clocktower, as it’s the only one I have not completed, AND because of the time pressure combined with all that motion and distraction of other players. It would be a breeze without the pressure as you would have a chance to study before having to make the jump. Stepping stones had some time pressure, but much less and for much shorter intervals and with much less distractions.

Actually I think they need a way to limit the particle affects as it’s just plain sensory overload right now. Options to limit to just me or my parties, plus of course those that might affect me or my party. It’s pretty lame to only see the boss in outline form.
I often lose my cursor in all the graphics as well, and playing a Necro most of my skills require targeting an area so that cannot be done with the keyboard.

Actually being able to see the enemy would be great instead of all the special affects piled on top of it. It seems all we get to see is the outline. I often have trouble even targeting the enemy let alone finding any damage numbers I might be doing to it.
Maybe an option to only see my special affects or just my parties?
They should give two tokens for gold event completion, one token for silver completion, and NONE for bronze/tagging the event. Add stacks similarly and give bones chests based on stacks plus the daily bonus.
And two more 30 minute attempts to get a meager 10 blooms, even trying to skip to the next event before the current one is completed. This is really sad that I need to learn how to better tag the events to get my quota of 10 stacks before time runs out. Thought I was good this last one with 9 stacks and almost four minutes left when I started an event. But of course it was a catapult event and there where not enough people to even get it half way dead when time runs out.
This. Please let the map have levels as I wasted much time trying to get to the north pointlessly. It’s very frustrating seeing something on the map right in front of you but completely inaccessible.

The transmutation was off of a copy of your main account so it didn’t even touch the main account’s T charges.
Sweet! I was hoping that I had not lost them but never checked the counts to see if I had.
