Hiding potential precursors or even Ascended gear in stacks of mostly unidentified blues and greens is just WRONG! That will force most players to identify everything or worry that they might have salvaged a precursor. Ascended gear is not even supposed to be salvageable without a special tool, and precursors should not be either.
PLEASE Anet at least have two types of UnID gear that filters out the useless stuff from the potentially valuable stuff. Both types should have different ID costs as well. That way you are truly gambling on the type of exotic you might get.
IF a commander whats to tag up and run with his guild, or his friends, you should not automatically be invited to squad. If the commander wants to run a squad of people with ts, it is his choice. You do not and should not get a say, either accept the rules set before you, or don’t join the squad, simple.
This is the point. Commanders are not easy to come by, good ones anyway. Anyone willing to pop a tag and lead should always be free to do so as they please. Like someone else said, try doing it yourself, don’t complain about those that are making the effort.
I will admit I don’t like it when I can’t join a squad but I understand and respect the commanders decision to lock their squad.
As far as tagging mechanics go I really haven’t seen any solid evidence presented here that being in or out of a squad (other than not getting the buffs of the squad) makes any difference to the credit given for kills. I have a friend who always runs as a solo ele and he gets TONS of bags and WxP, way more than I do even when I run just in a party with him. He doesn’t need to be in the squad to reap the benefits, he just runs along with them nibbling at the edges of the enemy zerg. I run condi and if stuff dies to fast my conditions don’t have time to do enough damage to get credit.
The loot system needs an overhaul in general as it is just to much clicking and space management as is. Having stacks of loot by rarity would be great but using a vendor to ID them ONE AT A TIME is just madness. I would be fine treating exotics one at a time, but everything lower than that should be quickly and easily salvageable, with ectos potentially coming out of rare loot.
Back now, but got dropped and could not get back in for a few minutes.
This is pretty much unplayable, this needs to be fixed.
Just got the same error.
I was totally turned off by that aura. I suppose it’s all they can do for trinkets but it should have an off switch as I might consider going for one just for the utility, but certainly not if I have to have that cloud around my character.
The pips per ticket ratio is pretty well maintained from wood to diamond, but each level takes longer and longer to get. Split is a good idea as starting on Mithril or Diamond is always questionable as your progress might get lost at reset time. If you could carry over that would solve it also.
Everyone keeps referring to flushing participation. Once you reach Tier 5/6 it takes a LONG time for participation to decay, like 5-10 minutes so if you take or defend ANY objective that’s like 15-20 mins of time where you need to do nothing.
Once you hit Tier 3, then yes it goes pretty fast, but if you don’t sit on your butt for more than 10 minutes it’s trivial to maintain tier 5/6.
Getting to Tier 4/5/6 is a little challenging sometimes if your alone and on a map with gank groups prowling spawn, camps and sentries.
I stopped playing last night after flipping a camp. It took a full 20 minutes before I lost participation in T3. That’s a 10 minute timer for taking or defending any objective plus 10 minutes of decay, which was very slow until I reached T3.
Killing guards is good when your leveling up participation and for getting credit for others taking that objective sometime after you leave (sticking around might get you killed if you are alone). If there are zergs active on the map, they will get you the participation bonus when they come by.
The only problem I have faced is being greatly out numbered all night, but not actually getting the out manned bonus until well after midnight. It’s hard to take camp or even a sentry when the opposition has small roaming groups every where seemingly camping every little objective a lone roamer might be able to take.
I have to say the new participation system didn’t really have much of an affect on my playing tonight. I played for hours out manned, but not getting the out manned bonus until after midnight. I am silver and we were in last place all night because anywhere you went there where at least four to five times more blue and green (in my case) an yet no bonus. I wish it was made clear how that worked because I don’t think I saw a fair fight all night.
I ended up getting 36 pips standing there doing nothing cooling down, almost more than I got for the first hour of play. I really wish I could have cashed out and went to bed but this is the way the game forces me to get my tickets.

It took me just over 40 minutes to get to 100% T6 doing what I consider roaming, mostly solo but had a few allies here and there. Five minutes later the game announces a new build so I exit only to be told it needs to repair my game data. grrrrrr… There goes all my progress, was hoping to test the count down timers. I only saw the count down timer once while building up and it did seem to come very shortly after killing something.
How about most of the people in this thread actually playing with the fix before condemning ArenaNet for not testing it?
If a camp really gets you 10 minutes and a sentry gets you five, that’s plenty of time to get to another objective and actually DO something.
I am curious how much killing a guard gets you as they are plentiful and do earn you WxP, not to mention credit for the objective if it’s taken later by someone else.
Block is your friend when you end up with chatty people on global chat. Even after being asked nicely to stop filling the global channel with noise they kept on doing it. Now they will never get my help as I can’t hear them anymore.
I have actually experienced people guarding sentries, which is just ridiculous. Not just one person mind you, which wouldn’t bother me, but having two and three people come out of nowhere to stop me (or to kill me) from getting a sentry.
You can only get the PvP marks once per season, one per tier on the top three tiers which are not easy to get. That’s pretty rare so I don’t see how they should be in skirmish chests as they are pretty valuable as they should be.
I already have three pieces of the T2 gear and I will have the full set in three more weeks. T3 is another discussion with the level requirement but eventually I think I will get there if I don’t burn out on WvW first.
Choosing your own Ascended armor (versus random drops) has always required dedication to crafting and has always been expensive. I don’t see how this needs to change for WvW armor. I already had rank 500 so excluding that cost I have easily earned enough gold from WvW drops and rewards to pay for the required mark materials (mostly leather and silk).
The ‘data’ isn’t really what I am worried the most about. That is backed up to another machine and to the cloud, it’s the time and frustration of getting it all setup again. Norton supposedly is backing up my install image to another drive, but I don’t really trust that either.
I have been using computers for decades and other than one of my first ones where I literally shook the case WHILE it was running, I have never had a hard drive fail (knock, knock, knock). My drives spin 24/7 for years on end.
The OS is constantly writing information to the drive and moving it around so I only trust an SSD for things like games which is mostly static data.
I am running my work VM (Virtual machine) on an SSD, but that is only 100G that I back up a few times a year. If that fails, I get paid to repair/rebuild it, but probably a few month old backup wouldn’t be to big a hassle to update as all of our code is in a library I can download from.
I wasn’t talking about being kicked, but yes that would apply also. I meant you died and maybe they all left at the end and didn’t bother to rez you. My point was once the game allocates a loot bag to you, there shouldn’t be a case where you don’t or can’t get it.
You can just reinstall windows on a new SSD then. I only keep programs and Windows, so I don’t really lose anything but time.
It makes no sense to buy an SSD and not use it. Everything dies. If anything, SSDs are probably actually sturdier than their constantly spinning HDD counterparts which are known to fail. Hell, I remember buying a HDD at Frys and they flat out told me 1/4 of their drives are bad. That was back then though.
I may not be the average user, but NO, I cannot just slap a copy of windows on a drive. I have a ridiculous amount of stuff to install and configure. I am an application developer and I work from home as well. Losing my main drive would set me back probably a week or two, and even then I may not get everything installed and configured that I have now.
One thing not mentioned here is installing GW2 on an SSD drive. (I still don’t trust them for my boot drive, but all my games are installed on one.)
You’re afraid it’s going to be too fast? :p
I’ve used my Samsung 830 Pro for like 5 years now (boot + main gaming drive) and another Plextor SSD as secondary data drive. Techpowerup endurance tested the Samsung 850 Pro which Samsung guarantee 150 TB data written on… It finally died some week ago at 9100 TB, lol.
Every drive gonna die sooner or later but I honestly dont see an issue if your main drive is a decent quality one.
I was warned by friends in the industry to not trust my OS on an SSD drive. The problem is that when they die, they do it suddenly and drastically where as traditional hard drives seem to fail slowly over time. I do have a friend who raided there SSDs to solve this problem, but that seems a bit overkill to me, I will just stick with vanilla hard drives for my OS for now.
Has anyone noticed a bug with Guild banners? I swear I have seen the same banners on the same maps for days in a row in the exact same spot, like the timer died on them. Not every banner, but just a few ‘bugged’ banners.
I think there are two different things being discussed here, but first I want to state a fact for clarification, if you ‘tag’ someone (do damage to them during a fight) and they later die, you get ‘credit’ in the form of some WxP and maybe a loot bag. This happens wherever you are on the map at that time, dead or alive. If you ‘release’ immediately those bags pile up at your feet back at the way point.
The decision to ‘release’ or not is NOT trivial and very situation dependent. If the way point is close by then clearly you should release, but if you are deep in enemy territory and your allies could both win the local fight and use you in the next fight then you should wait.
The real question to me is what should the game do with drops while you are dead. I would vote they should get queued just like any chest reward does. You still get credit for anything that triggers a reward chest or WxP while being dead, why should you be denied your loot? What if you happen to be doing a fractal and die at the last moment before the boss dies and your party just leaves the fractal, should you then also be denied your loot?
At the minimum the decay time on the bags should be increased so you have a chance to run back and get them, but in general I vote against that approach. If you ‘earned’ loot, you should get it, not lose it because of some bad situation like my fractal example.
I can say that AMD CPUs work just fine. My rig is certainly not latest/greatest and parts are pretty old. I have almost no lag problems in WvW with large mobs. Sure things slow down a little, but I have not ‘lagged out’ in years.

I saw a camp and a tower showing the wrong color on the map, it didn’t match the actual state on the ground. People actually built cats to try and take the tower back.
It’s not that we can’t do it while running from here to there, it’s that we are SICK OF IT. It’s a tedious repetitive chore that can and should be made easier. IF the gem store offered some device to reduce all that clicking I bet most of the naysayers here would buy it.
The worst offender is the 50 different kinds of chests they throw at us because there are to many to leave unopened until the end of your run. If they could simply make a device that stacked chests and got rid of the in your face popup to stop the stupid jiggling chests that would make things much better.
I love getting rewards. Each chest in a reward track is different because it drops different types of loot from different areas of the game. The system needs to be that way so it drops the correct loot for the reward track. The So I guess for those who are tired of having to open rewards ANeT should add the option of “I want no rewards” to solve this laziness. If they add that you no longer have to complain about your inventory being full.
I am just asking to DEFER my rewards and/or to simplify them for easier stacking. We don’t need dozens of differently named chests that give you blues and greens with the occasional gold in them. I proposed an idea in another thread about making reward tracks a currency that would accumulate in your wallet that you could spend at a rewards vendor.
Getting a chest when you level or finish a pip tier/level is not a problem, it’s the fifty rewards chests in between that’s the problem.

Just have it repeating the one you just had would be a big step up. Or better yet to solve my thread topic about rewards chests, just let the ‘credit’ accumulate in some kind of wallet currency so I could buy rewards with it when it’s convenient.
Hold on the jiggle, that is to distracting, but a rewards queue/stash would be nice so that you could hold off on processing until you are done with WvW. Something to do while waiting for participation to cool down.
You are suffering from LPS (Lazy Player Syndrome).
All you need is copper matic, one silver matic, and the ecto gambling device (which is effectively a merchant to sell to.
Click open chests, salvage everything in two clicks, sell runes to merchant. Job done. Takes less than ten seconds on a full inventory.
Of course if you’re on a spam 1 server collecting loot like there is no tomorrow then you need to remember to repeat the above more than once an evening.
What is likely to happen now is that Anet will take the OP’s post as saying that there is too much loot in wvw now and they will cut everything by 90%, ruining 99.9% of people’s loot just to cure the Op’s LPS.
No, that’s not likely. I have a silver fed tool, but I don’t use it anymore because it costs more than a mystic salvage kit. They even messed up bulk salvage with the preview popup. Yet another click. I am asking for a quality of life improvement not complaining about the loot, just it’s packaging. All that’s needed is one tool that’s smart enough to process 95% of all the drops so my ‘fun’ time isn’t wasted opening and processing containers. Let the exotic and ascended rewards pile up. Sending the rare’s to the TP for me would be fantastic, but I would be happy for everything green and below being handled automatically (or just avoided altogether with ‘purer’ loot that’s just raw materials).
They don’t seem to want to save space. Every new release of content comes with more things to clutter your inventory. They like to sell you more and more inventory space, I just wish they would sell something to keep your inventory uncluttered. Why can’t chests just come with materials or wallet currency in them? Why must everything be salvaged and/or sold? Don’t even get me started on the stupid tomes of knowledge.
Slightly off topic, but I would like to see targeting circles on arrow carts. I can never tell how far they reach and where my arrows are coming down unless they are enemies there to show damage numbers.
It’s not like there isn’t spare time, it’s when your inventory fills in the middle of combat and you can’t get your drops. Rather than have than happen I try and proactively manage it, but there is just to much to manage so it becomes tedious.
That and the reward chests just trigger WAY to often. One BIG chest when I complete the track would be so much better.
I have been playing a crazy amount of WvW lately, attempting to get as many claim tickets and levels as possible, and I have to say one of the most annoying things is all the freaking reward chests that will not stack and force me to do inventory processing seemingly all the time. Ignoring the chests within chests issue, why does EVERY reward chest have to be different so they won’t stack?
I would really like some kind of option somewhere to avoid having to click the things jiggling on the side as well, just let them accumulate in my inventory automatically (and stack PLEASE)
Maybe even sell some kind of device in the gem store which will automate all of that for you. I would gladly pay to not have to do all that clicking when I am trying to play WvW.
An alternative is to not have the participation decay when your not in WvW or offline. That way you can logoff or go back to PvE without feeling like your giving up something you have earned.
I would prefer to be able to ‘cash out’ rather than going AFK while it degrades, but I feel I have earned that participation so yes, I am going to take up a queue spot while it decays. (My server is only tier 4 so queues are only a problem on reset night.)
All I hear from vet wvw players is that “playing for rewards” is just wrong, plain wrong or completely wrong.
You can play for whatever reasons you like, at the end of the day. There’s nothing wrong with playing for rewards if you so choose. It’s your life and at the end of the day, it’s a video game, so you can do however you feel so long as it doesn’t hurt other people.
That said, it’s not a good position to try to bring to the table because it’s fundamentally self-destructive reasoning:
1. You play a game mode because it has rewards.
2. You stop playing the game mode because it has no more rewards for you.
Assume that the game is better when it has more players in it.
For what reason would ArenaNet ever shorten the gap between 1 and 2? By doing that, they are pushing you out of the game mode earlier, thereby reducing the player count, thereby making the game mode worse. Why would ArenaNet want to make their game worse?
Dropping the requirement from 2000 to 1500 (with first piece at 1000) would entice more players because at present said carrot is just to far out of reach. Anyone who has 1000 levels has certainly shown their dedication to WvW (or karma training in the mists unfortunately, but that’s another topic).
Using gw2efficiency to calculate a 12 week average comes out to about 24 ranks per week for me. A typical week involves 6-8 hours of small group play and 2-4 hours of large group play. This is with exp and celebration boosters.
Where did you find WvW in gw2efficiency? I can’t find it.
(Nevermind, I found it. It was hiding in the statistics section I had never explored.)
115 levels in 19 days (with every booster I could find, 165-%170% I think)
(edited by Elric Of Melnibone.4781)
Requiring only rank 1000 would not be something anyone could walk in and do. I have played since Beta and I am almost at 600 with some concerted effort this last week, and I would not have a problem with needing another 400 levels, but needing 1400 more is just ridiculous.
Have you played WvW since beta?
Obviously, I have only put on a dozen or so levels over the last week. I have been doing a little most nights, but I certainly don’t live there. It can get old pretty quick, and I am afraid I am going to burn out long before I even get to 1000. The bar is just way to high.
Ah well then I guess it will be one skin you don’t have. At least there are options and choices; and this new shiny won’t make you any less effective than a player with it.
Pursuing the shinies is most of what motivates me to play the game. I am not a big fan of raids, but I want the armor so I have worked my way most of the way through that. That’s why I have a problem with this level requirement, it’s seemingly unreachable for most of the population.
If it makes you feel any better I haven’t even cracked 1,000 and I exclusively play WvW. But I scout, and not Zerg, which makes levelling slow.
I still feel that if I really want this skin, I need to devote time to it.
You should too.
Anything handed to a player tends to be thrown out with the next big shiny. If you actually have to put in the hours to get it, at the very least you’ll store it in your bank once you move on to new content.
I agree, I love my Nevermore and it took a lot to get it, but this is double what it needs to be as far as time spent goes.

Running with a squad that has a decent commander can be like night and day if you are on TS or not. There are timing based tactics that you CANNOT be part of if you cannot hear the commander. Coordination of the squad’s skills and location cannot be inferred or communicated in chat.
Say for instance the commander wants to feint left and then hit for real to the right. Everyone not in TS hits left and then dies as those in TS hit right. All the ‘pugs’ die and rally the enemy, making the rest of the squad have a much harder time. If the enemy has a decent commander with everyone in TS, you will lose to them every battle. Watched it happen countless times just this weekend. This is why some commanders run tagless, to prevent the ‘casuals’ from following them.
I think the pip counts should be based on the map score, not the overall world score. My world only has enough players (generally) to fill one map (EBG) and be competitive but since we then leave the other maps severely out manned we lose every where else. I played in EBG for several hours the last two nights and saw 2 pips per tick all night.
The first night I played in the ‘empty’ maps as a roamer and was seeing 7-10 pips per tick it seemed, but it was not really any fun playing there as everywhere I went I was ganked by a dozen or more players. That leaves me two choices, fair fights for no rewards or getting crushed (or just standing around) for high rewards. Not a very well thought out system.
I think 1000 would have been fine, 2000 is too high, especially since it’s only Ascended armor, not Legendary. I would like to see a distribution chart of what all the players have for their current rank.
Necro Reapers are very tough. Viper stats for lots of condi damage combined with Rise for lots of minions, Suffer to spread any condis on you, and the trait that gives you toughness per minion (can’t remember the name). The Elite minion has one of the best bar breaks.
Not sure we need a bar, just an option to ‘re-consume’ a food when it expires would be great and not need more clicking. Of course that wouldn’t work for shovels.
I just wish for a salvage device you could double click that would convert all green and below to materials in your bank and copper in your wallet for the minor runes/sigils. All the clicking for managing that is just getting really old. Better yet, no clicking. Loot just gets ‘processed’ automatically and you only need to deal with rare/exotic and above.
Elric, now you, my friend, have the RIGHT IDEA!
I’d pay gems for a Salvage-AUTOmatic device that had options/settings as you’ve described!
Btw, I had no idea that you were in Tyria these days! OUTSTANDING!
So I gotta ask… which do you prefer – Stormbringer or Mournblade?
Stormbringer

The OP never states what kind of armor, but Ascended is NOT casual armor and is ‘earned’ by playing the game and working toward it. Casual players may not have learned the most efficient way to get there so it might take a lot longer.
