The Instant death on this map is too random and favors even more certain builds. It’s not a competitive map.

It won’t be the first map that warrants adapting your build to the situation at hand.

I can’t wait to try it with the Warrior Rampage elite which sux in all other situations :p

It’s not the first map…. (correction of tempi).
I just doubt it is competitive with all that highgrounds and with a cannon that can’t be dodged. Also the instant death mechanic brings in some randomness. What I hear from the majority of players is: The map is fun and innovative, but more like Jump n’ Run.

Need a way to turn the other stuff into powder instead of only throwing it away and buy more chests to get more powder.

Like: Putting 4 stacks of 250 orbs into MF(1000 orbs) could give 500 powder. This would be the easiest way. Of course for all other stuff with different results(more rare stuff = more powder).

Or do a CoF run and get 1g in 10 mins. That’s worth about 250 powders

Well, that’s your opinion. For myself, I’m doing a break of PvP because it is too stale and the hype is allrdy gone anyway. So I changed to PvE and was quiet amused by the variety and the reward/progression.
However, the fact that PvP got so boring that I had to leave it for PvE is just sad. I mean I hated PvE just for it’s core principe of fighting against NPCS. So I want to thank A-Net for this experience . . .

I have orbs > crystal > sliver > powder ha ha. Yeah slivers often are also rare. But there are recipes(for Mystic Forge; which afaik use powder). I’m glad I get 3 often from salvaging and most of the time I’m low on powder(if making dyes only… don’t know if this would change when I started producing other stuff like PvP gear for skins… but there I just rely on drops from chests which are plenty enough).

When I lack in powder I normally buy copper-chests.

Old but gold. Though it’s not really optimal for TPvP. For tournaments i’d suggest to run a bunker-build only.

On his channel he presents two other bunker builds (they are nearly the same today) and explains the advantages/disadvantages of it. A look at these vids mabye can help you a bit more detailed.

If you’re new to bunker then I’d suggest to try first the more defensive and easier weapons to play. These are mace,focus,shield,sword. Combine Mace/Focus and Sword/shield. After you settled with guardian and how to survive long enough you can try on hammer or staff.

For solo play akka Hotjoin you should roll DPS guard with meditations as it is funnier and more mobile.

I think he means buffing them to a point where ppl actually consider to take them.
The standard utilities like cantrips, shouts, ports, kits etc. are also in a better spot due to synergy of useful traits. Not only CD reduction but other effects like converting conditions into boons or giving you swiftness and vigor. The passive effect of a signet is fields behind other utility-groups. And the only traits we got for signets is the -20% CD.

Also, they should fix the “staggering” animation some skills have. I bet a lot of you have noticed it when dodging other warrior’s bull’s charge, shield bash and so on. The end of the skill has like a delay or smth when it’s still trying to connect with you, it gives you extra time to react and dodge away in peace.

Yep. It’s not smooth at all and doesn’t allow to chain things instantly. Also some long aftercasts in general make it hard to hit some combos.

Some PvE players give me the impression that besides farming cof they have no idea how their class is working against other classes. The warrior is the least favorable class for a 1v1. On an equal skill-level he will loose no matter what. If that isnt’ allrdy enough, ppl claim that the actual op-class necro has no chance against the worst class since release? Made my day!

I haven’t read anything but the OP but I’d just like to state that most DPS builds in this game are hybrid, at least to a degree. Sword/Dagger thieves use lyssa runes, 30 in acrobatics, energy sigils, etc. Just try changing those 3 things to full damage and you will see a HUGE increase in damage( I’m guessing at least 40-50% more damage) but that’s how useful these defensive opportunities are compared to full glass. Elementalists use valkyries amulets with only 10 or 20 in an actual damage trait line. I could keep going on just how most dps use hybrid builds.

The only viable full glass build I can think of that is used is shatter mesmer, but they rely on invulnerabilities/teleports/stealths for survivability. Glass dagger/pistol thief is pretty much wiped from the meta right now and any teams still using it aren’t seeing success.

Good example of how important independence in this game is.

This idea would take any semblance of team fights and throw it out the window. You are (essentially) rewarded for the act of capturing, not holding. That would imply that the going around and capturing other points is by far more useful than fighting over a point..

What you should look to do is find a way to centralize fighting so that people are forced to have, at least on occasion, a more intimate team focused battle environment. Not this kittenty team of five individuals running around gaining their own points. This concept of point decay only pushes individualism and movement even further. Why waste time defending a point? You can just capture theirs after they capture! Whoever has the fastest run speed to get to the point to capture it wins!

Seems like you never seen one of the old BM-rangers or a good thief that actually can backcap. What you described above is allrdy happening. It’s nothing new.

I know many ppl want this game to be teamoriented. The problem here is that the meta allrdy shifted towards solo-play. Every build has two things that have to be considered:
1. Independece of the build, 2. viable ranged AoE-dmg.
This is the reason why ele’s, then BM-rangers, S/D-thieves, kit-engineers and nowadays necros are viable speccs. A build has at least to be strong in one of these two areas. If they are good at both, the specc will be considered mostly as op (especially ele and now necro).

So in conclusion this means: The meta-gameplay is allrdy shifting towards solo-play due to independence of the builds/classes.
Teamfights, how you call them, are allrdy very restricted in teamwork, compared to other games (has also something to do with dedicated healers).

Just because something is that way does not imply it needs to be that way…

Games are not excessively competitive if they rely on an individual player. The reason for this is that you drastically limit skill cap by placing the priority of your game at the individual level. It’s one thing to learn to play your own character, in most games that’s pretty simple.. But RPG style games have this excellent opportunity to bring in dynamic team fights that can raise the skill cap insanely high with zero increase in game complexity. To go away from that is essentially dumbing the game down more and forcing the game into a far more boring low skill cap style game.

So for me to reiterate back to you good sir… Just because something is the meta does not lead one to believe that it is correct. The developers sit in a unique position to determine what is meta and what isn’t they could redesign the entire balance of the game if they so desired. Don’t let the way things are act like a crutch and impede real solutions, not just easy ones, to hard problems.

I’m not a fan of this either, I played GW1 for 6 years and loved the dynamic teamfights. However partially you’re correct, but then tell me why the cantrip-ele was such a successive build? To be independent is becoming the main focus of every setup in this game. Teamplay will happen, but not as dedicated as you’ll see it in other games.

A good example for being dependant on the team is the warrior. It’s the most balanced class that doesn’t allow this cheesy roaming without punishment. Every team that includes a warrior has carefully to build around it, to support him to get his dps out. But the disadvantages are just overhelming and many teams realized if they focus on independent builds it’s much more easier. It allows you to split however you want. You can roam solo, but also with others. The warrior on the other side is only able to roam with somebody else effectively.

All in all I wish we will see more balancing around the team. But they allrdy screwed up the balance that hard, it’s nearly impossible. Still we can hope, whatsoever.

That would be a decent compromise. Not as good as this but I sure wouldn’t complain if we got it. That, or a trait were it removes it on dodge with a slight internal CD so it’s only every 2 dodges. Having it always remove would probably be a bit too strong.

Cond remove on dodging won’t remove always chill and cripple. Those 2 conditions affecting melee-ranged builds really heavy, because it denies you to actually stay in melee range. Even with gap-closer it’s not enough to compensate the slowing speed. Or give warriors more access to cripple and chill instead of eles.

Mabye if the matchmaking would be good and soloq played actually against other soloq instead of premades. Mabye if A-Net starts to actually create a proper soloq, then you can bring your ban-timers into game. Not before because this MMR is BS and not splitted qeues is just a joke.

Consider first, why ppl leave. I mean I hate leavers too, but the poor infrastructure and system in place is actually boosting this problem. Therefore the soloq should be working properly and afterwards A-Net can ban ppl for leaving.

One thing is for sure, and that is that the Account Medal is not linked to the same value as the emote.

When I reached the Deer Account Medal and got Gladiator, I already had the Dolyak emote and rank 21.
So it may not be showing you the emote. Because the emote doesn’t necessarily match the title.

The account medal is linked to the achievement value, while the emote is linked to the PvP rank value.

It should not be like that.
The PvP rank Account Medal’s description says “PvP rank”, not “Points scored in PvP matches” like the achievement, so it should match the PvP rank and the /rank emote.

That’s what I was talking about.
So yep, The Medal is based on your achievment-title and your emote is based on your actual rank. Seems like you understand it. Hope I could clear things up for you
And yes, it is some kind of irritating what A-Net did there.

Your are totally missinformed. Glory doesn’t affect your purple-bar at the bottom in anyway. The number of points you achieve in a match is counting towards your ascendant-title (gladiator, mercenary, avenger etc.). The purple bar (your actual rank) is affected by the number + the top-stats you have awarded in that match.
So normally you have a lower ascendant-title as the rank compared to it (if we assume gladiator = r10, mercenary = r20, avenger = r30 etc.).

Also be aware that the reward of winning a tournament (200 glory, 200 rank-points) doesn’t count towards your ascendant title. This means, if you play a lot of tournament you likely end up having a huge difference between your rank (purple bar) and your ascendant-title.

That is strange. Considering the huge value differences in my account, only glory earned with boosters would explain such a huge difference.
If that’s really the case, there must be still some sort of bug on how things are counted for me to have such a huge gap.
My rank from tournaments won or top stats would simply not be enough. It does not add up.

In any case, at least the Account Medal in the character selection screen should match the /rank emote. The Ascendant title may say “points scored in PvP”, but the the medal does say “PvP rank”, so it should match the account rank more than the title.

It’ll be better if they all matched each other, as you can show any title. So there’s no use on having the difference, as to say “I won a lot of tournaments, look at the difference between my title and emote”, because you could simply show a lower title.
The only use for that is to personally know how many points you earned during matches, and that could go in the statistic section of the PvP panel instead.

Also many ppl think that glory boosters have any effect on your purple-bar or your ascendant-title/ Account-Medal. But that’s not the case. Glory boosters only affect Glory.

The purple bar is only affected by rank-points earned through conquest and top-stats plus tournament-rewards.

In conclusion this means your purple bar (your effective rank) is above your ascendant-title. For eg. this creates R30 players with mercenary. So on your Account-Medal it shows you the dolyak (=mercenary) but you allrdy hit r30, which means with /rank you summon the wolf-emote.

Hotjoin remembers me of GW1 where some players lamed r11/12/c5+ with b-spike and claimed afterwards they are pro players. Always had to smile. Same apperas in GW2, where some r50+ heros claim to be actually good strat-wise.

But at least iwayers were well known and usually avoided by good teams…here many 65+ honor farmers are still seen as good ones…and let’s say that gw1 fame farmers still had to win something in order to farm. here all you have to do is sitting on upper mid and spam down aoes into the zerg like there’s no tomorrow..

I don’t know if you’re aware, but 100b already has a bigger aoe than a grenade.

600 radius aoe doesn’t even hit anyone who is positioned properly unless the aoe user is overextended themselves, because the few (2?) abilities with that radius are pbaoe and 600 is just barely more than the distance from one side of a small node to the other.

Put an end to all your aoe problems: stop charging headlong at the closest red name.

Ok, not all. It’s still an issue in downed contests.

The radius affects 180° and not 360°, that’s the prob.

Glory may not be a rank, but as I said, how it’s counted it’s bugged.

Supposedly it should not count at all for anything, it should just be a currency for the PvP glory vendors, yet it increases the bar at the bottom of the screen and your rank emote.

That’s a known bug. There’s lots of people with a “glory rank” higher than their actual rank, so they can show an emote and use the vendors of a rank not yet achieved.

Resetting the leaerboard of course would make things troublesome for a while, like shaking the sand at the bottom of a fish tank.
But the sand will settle again after a while.

It’ll be something necessary after they fish better how rank is calculated. And way faster than some other calculation to settle things in a more smooth way.

There are two ranks in GW2. First, the rank based on earned rank-points. Second, the leaderboard rank. Glory is just the PvP-currency and has absolutely nothing to do with rank or anything of that nature. Ergo: Glory is not a factor in this game.

Reset the leaderboard has nothing to do with the discussion nor would it save any issue. This would just create 2 more months of instabile ratings and besides that has the disadvantage that soloq and premades start again from zero wich provides even more unfair matches.

So please read the whole thread first and inform yourself how exactly rank and glory is affecting your titles and ranks.

Hotjoin should and can stay. It’s good for casuals or fun-play. But it shouldn’t be rewarded more than competitive play. There should be a point-limit per match (300 is too high). This is just generating Zerg-farming and favors grinding more than strategical play. I hope you can agree with me on this.

hmmm i do agree that non tournament casual 8 vs 8 sPvP should not have the potential to generate more rewards (glory, rank points) than tournament play.

I watched tournaments, it’s an unreadable mess short of watching the point ownership interface or when the action shifts into a back point where a 1v1 is occurring.

That’s an issue with your understanding of the game. Team fights are exceptionally readable if you know what to look for.

I would not be denying them anything, everyone has the option to rent a server for whatever they wish to do with it, as I stated it is very cheap to do so.

by requesting for 8 vs 8 to be removed is denying them.
the 8 vs 8 are already readily available.

removing something that is readily available and then forcing people to pay up for something which was taken away from them.

this is not right.

Hotjoin should and can stay. It’s good for casuals or fun-play. But it shouldn’t be rewarded more than competitive play. There should be a point-limit per match (300 is too high). This is just generating Zerg-farming and favors grinding more than strategical play. I hope you can agree with me on this.

TA and RA in GW1 hadn’t a matchmaking-system in place with ratings behind it. It was possible to get consecutive wins because of that. Consecutive wins in GW2 are much harder to achieve due to that MMR, which can be compared more to GvG than RA/TA (just because of leaderboard and rating involved).

Based on that it should reward wins against high-level rating teams (compare it with C-Title) rather than consecutive wins.

How does one not cluster on a point when winning the game is about standing on said point?

You put one person on the point, not 4. The rest stay back and shoot onto the person who’s on the point, who is generally your bunker.

Positioning 101.

Easy to say in theory, but hard to achieve in reality. You can get pulled once and your positioning is history. Also when staying too defensive at the back, it’s too easy to get melted by a coordinated AoE spike. Especially on forest and khylo, balling is inevitable due to the map-design.

Most people that play high lvl tpvp and that plays with me dont think aoe is a problem.

All i saw are people crying about game mechanics that are not OP or a problem because they lack the hability and skill to overcome it.

So please stop trying to balance the game when you suck. Cause its ur problem , not the games problem.

Having a mesmer myself, I really want to know this mesmer because any mesmer that can survive against a good necro is a downright master of his class lol. Mesmer condition removal is much more horrid than warrior. It is just that they have more active defense with stealth/target drop/distraction from many illusions/immunity on a 45sec cd if traited for/chaos armor/daze.

Apparently you don’t know Mesmer as well as you think you do.

There are builds out there for Mesmers in which they can kill Necromancers even in the current state of the game. You just won’t see it in tPvP. Mesmer is by far the strongest class which can be traited for any situation.

That requires to play with a torch, where I think other weapons as pistol or focus are still above. Anyway, it’s worth a try.

the node decay on time is a really interesting aspect you bring up here. Also the rest (even when some part is a suggestion, eg the hybrid builds) makes me thinking about it in a whole new dimension. As seen in PvP, the “we don’t set ETA’s, but release it when it’s ready and working as intended”-mentality is so far a real success-model in this game. I mean look at solo-Q or the leaderboards… amazing work there! We only waited some weeks for it, but now it works perfect.
