Well “survive” is objective. in a 1v1 sure he will survive. But when you get a 2v1 you definetly need to get out or get support. Build known as dagger/dagger, tanky but not bunker.

Our core ele is bunker with soldiers amulet, to avoid spikes aka bursts. Switch to water atunement and you’ll get 2k heal for a dodge + 2 heal skillz. It’s more then enough. When you have 2 eles on 1 point they can’t be killed because they just dual heal. In case of dying you have mist form + heal skill, then rtl out. heal up yourself and you can enter again.
Sure you can die, but that rarely happens. And never with 5 eles.

RTL is in every case faster as a warriors rush + whriling. Just test it and you will see. And to compare a warrior to an ele? warrior is lost in tpvp so wha’ts left is the ele. Ranger and engineer have perma swifness. To get from one point to the other you’re still faster as an ele.

If you go with the “who has more players on a point will cap it – thing” the whole tactics that made it competitive will be lost. Just take 5 eles roam arround, can’t diying, decaping everything. Seems not really a good idea to me. Sure you loose the static bunker-meta…

1v1 just work with massive restrictions to not allow bunker play (ele, guard) and other annoying stuff. Pretty boring, as you can join an empty server to do things like this.

The problem with valkyrie is your healthpool. as it’s easy to get farmed by a thief when concentratiing on another player. On the otherside the dmg is heavy as you said.

Impossible to restore. Because all the good players are in gvg or left. And the bad – average players won’t care anymore being farmed. As A-net only carry gw2 there will be no changes anyway.

In no way underpowered. Just not fit in the team setups and the actual gameplay. As he can’t play bunker becaus the guard is way-better, he can’t play roamer because the ele is way better, his burst compared to a thief is not enough, his conditions compared to a necro is a joke and in 1v1 a ranger still can do more pressure.
Sure the engineer has lot of knocks, support, conditions. depends how you play.

Well as ranger you have enough dodgeroles, protection and stability over time. You have your no-dmg-signet and cripple. The fact that you can compose the amulet with jewel is enough to get the variety.

I think it needs some time with the matchmaking. But if ppl start to get grps on the same level, the playerbase will increase. Well, that’s what I hope.

Mabye you could name a few besides TP, where teldo plays engineer and Onibawan, where magz play warrior. They play it in their setup because they can handle the deficit of the class and sure are good-class players. Never the less they are the weakest classes in the game.

What you brought up here is nearly the same as the new mode that will come in feb/march. Where you 5v5 just for one map (in gw2 case it’s temple). The other modes 2v2 /3v3 will mabye come later.
The thing with the map pool… well as you said 5 maps where 1 is not tournament playable (raid of cap), is not enough to bring that feature out.
The waiting time will be fixed in these one-match tournaments.

About the engineer: True, atm just too weak to compete with other classes.

Ture, besides the fact of premades, not able to /resign and long matches (10 mins).
For these players without guild / fix-team it’s not easy to get into it at all.

HA would be hard to implement, cause it was in most cases deathmatch. As you said some restrictions like in codex or limited classes would support that mode. And something like capture the flag or relic run (w/e you wanna implement) would avoid the zerg and get some tactics in it with splitting the team.

To dissapoint you. Guildwars 2 pvp has allrdy uncountable problems in itself. I think something compared to that will take a longer time. Mabye in 2014

If you take away the burst of a thief… he will disappear from the game (especially from tournaments). And if you have some exp. you won’t die against thiefs. There are too many 2-2-2 thiefs around who are free targets.

Now stop complaining about every strenght of a class and learn to deal with it.

@Follidus: In NA there are 5 teams? And you said it has the same level of competition as EU servers? So that must be the reason for top players from NA joining EU servers.

This topic is about PvP-Events that support to participate in pvp and get more ppl in.
These basic Events would be similar to the GW1 Events (eg: double fame, double gladiator-points etc.)

I know it’s a bit too early because GW2 cointains hotjoin and tournaments only. But mabye in the future.

Personally I would implement an Event Weekend like: double rank-points, or double tournament-wins for Champion-Brawler title.
If hotjoin gets more stabile and not zerging-train, mabye double glory would be cool.

I want to know if i’m the only one who had this idea and what you think about it?

I’m asking a little frustrated after the heart pounding loss in paid tournaments as the starting setup was promising for our advantage as the other team switched characters before the match started to give the advantage on their side. It’s “squishy” to be able to do that in tournaments at all. What are Arenanet- and the community’s feedback on this?

Back to the topic I would say they won’t “fix” it. In my opinion there’s not really something like buildwars when you play a balanced build. So nothing to fix really.
If you watch top teams like team cursed or team paradigm you see always the same setup since ages, and never any rerolling action. In paids it’s that competitive that you have to focus on one team-build to work out and then stay on it. It’s hard to changes the setup as you need other tactics for it.

Absolutely true. In free it’s just too easy to get a guard. But in paids it’s in 95% of all cases impossible.
Lucky I stayed on guard till today and made 90% of all matches with this nice class.

I support this thread, players want to hear something about the additions to pvp that were promised.

Also, if you let me I will copy a post I made mathematically showing why paids dont pop. My apologies to anyone that has already read it. You can skip the following text:

8 teams join a paid tournament. Each team is made of 5 people who spend 5 tickets each.
8 teams * 5 members * 5 tickets/member = 200 tickets spent.
- One team will end 1st. That’s 120 gems each. 120*5 = 600 gems
- One team will end 2nd. That’s 80 gems each. 80*5 = 400 gems.
- Two teams will end 3rd/4rth. That’s 20 gems each. 20*(5+5)=200 gems.
- Some gems are given as lottery prize, however no one knows the exact % and it seems very random. My experience says you will get about 20-40 gems every 3 or 4 tournaments.
Total gems given as reward = 1200 gems + (low, random amount).
Conclusions:
- With 1200 gems a total of 100 tickets can be bought
maths: 1200 gems/ 360 priceof30tickets = 3,33 stacks of 30. 3,33*30 = 100 tickets.
- 200 tickets were spent to join a tournament, and only 100 were returned back. Also, a 83,3% of the tickets are given to the top/most experienced teams. The other teams are left with 16,7 tickets and that means 0,556 tickets per player.
(considering top teams the ones getting 1st and 2nd positions)
- Only 2 teams out of 8 can play paid tournaments continously. That means the 6 worse teams will have to farm 4 (2 teams) or 5 (6 teams) free tournaments to play a single paid. The average is 4,75 free tournaments to farm.
Considering each free tournament takes 45 minutes, and considering you win 100% of free tournaments (which is not mathematically true) we can calculate the amount of time an average team has to spend to play 1 paid tournament.
4,75*45 minutes = 213,75 minutes = 3,56 hours. Since i didnt count the daily ticket (yay!) we could say the time spent is from 3 to 3,5 hours.
- 75% of the teams (6/8) have to farm 3 hours to play a single paid tournament. Also, 4/8 of them (50%) can only play a single round. A single round takes 10-15 minutes.
That means 50% of the teams aiming competitive pvp in gw2 have to farm 3 hours to play 12,5 minutes of competitive pvp. Another 25% of teams (which are better) are rewarded with 25 minutes of competitive pvp every 3+ hours.
T1 teams = best teams
T2 teams = good teams
T3 teams = worst/new/50% teams
- T1 teams (that are already better) can practice paid tournaments 100% of their time.
- T2 teams (that win T3 teams but get farmed by T1) can practice paid tourments 13,8% of their time
- T3 teams (people wanting to start at competitive pvp) can practice 6,94% of their time.
—> T2 & T3 teams quit pvp or play free tournaments 86-93% of their time . Since free tournaments are pug stomping they will hardly get better.
—> T1 teams are getting better and better, while T2 and T3 teams improve very slowly
—> Only T1 teams queue paids. Since the gem rewards remain the same (even if the teams playing paid are really good), we have 3 new tiers: T1.1, T1.2, T1.3

AMAZING FACTS WE REALIZED
200 tickets are spent to join a tournament and only 100 are given back. Anet gets 50% of the entry. That’s too high. To give you an example, a casino holding a poker tournament only claims 10% of the entry price.

83% of the prize is given to the top teams
Good, average & bad teams get 0,556 tickets per player
Only best teams can practice full time.
Good, average and bad teams can practice 6,94% or 13,8% of their time
Less people is encouraged to queue, but the amount of people to make a paid pop is quite high 8*5 = 40
If you have a life and decide to spend your money, you will have to pay 10€ for 800 gems. That’s 10€ for 66,6 tickets. Considering you an average team, you will get 0,5 tickets/paid tournament. Since you will play 13 tournaments with initial tickets you will gain 0,5*13=6,5 tickets, which means an extra game. You paid 10€ to play 13+1=14 tournaments, averaging 15-30 minutes of gameplay each tournament
—> you paid 10€ to play 210-420 minutes depending on your skill.
- To practice, a new team has two options:
*> play 10 hours for every hour a top one does. If a top teams plays 4 hours every day, a new team has to play 40 hours/day.
*> pay 10€ every 3,5 hours (if they are “bad”), pay 10€ every 7 hours (if they are “better”)
This awesome system we have makes queues longer, and that means T1, T2 and T3 teams can practice even less % of their time than was calculated.

Well if a guard dies to your conditions, he is definitely false specced. Or only specced against burst. I play 3 shouts, with soldier runes and trait that remove a condition. So I pretty much hold every 1v1.

Agree with HPLT. No way to counter a bunker ele solo. So if you have no portal the mesmer is static on his point. How boring…

I played ele on my own… i’m not that good but i know all mechanics that are important. I’m interested when you are saying you can win 1v1 against an ele. If you are on EU servers you can try to kill our core ele. I think will be a endless match.
If you wanna 1v1 against me, as i play guard, you can pm me… i think you trolling around saying you win 1v1 against them. Or mabye you just face bad ppl.

I’m playing with the same 4 ppl since 4 months. I know this progression. Still you can’t kill a bunker ele alone. It’s even hard with 2 ppl. So you want to tell me that’s not a tactical advantage? I mean gl with your minion master to survive against 2 ppl. Gl to defend a point without stability when a guard comes and knocks you off.

Everything told here. I think it needs another year to solve these problems with the diversity of play-modes. As in guildwars 1 they needed their time, give them the time here. And as every other player from new to hardcore has other expectations, means spvp to tournaments, it seems like a neverending list.
From my point of view what’s really necessary is matchmaking (coming soon) and a tournament for guilds only, with a ladder, where also matchmaking would be. Pretty much the same as in guildwars 1.

What I have problems with at the moment is the gap between free and paid tournaments. Means average players can’t win paids and will go out of tickets, land sooner or later in free tournaments where the not experienced players are. And to loose against a premade is not really boosting fun in tpvp.

Well… in some cases this is true. But in a 1v1 a thief is pretty bad in my opinion. After he has his burst out he has to leave the fight akka stealth.

Mesmer: Shatter and thief is down.
Ele: Can’t die against a thief, no way.
Guard: Same here
Ranger: Best 1v1 class in my opinion.
Engineer: enough blind/knock back to avoid dmg
Warrior: Stun break, 100b / shield stance
Necro: Death shroud, marks… mabye will die

In this bunker meta it’s pretty hard for a thief though. In spvp it’s annoying, you’re right.

Well, you can’t compare NA to EU. It’s a different level. But you always need actual player skill. Sure when you play a build that is not viable you can be that good you will probably loose to worse players.

@ Kardiamond: it’s always hard to get into pvp when you played only pve before. I think in every game. And this will never change… I understand what you want me to tell you. But again, pvp is something you start to like when you get into it.

@ OSIAS: Really good idea with servers for new players (low-ranked). I think this would mabye help a bit to get into it. But let’s say you play till r20 in these “low-ranked” servers. Then you can’t connect anymore to them cuz you’re 21. Now you enter the next level… Maybe for 21-30 or whatever… The fact you played till rank 20 with beginners makes it not easier to get better at all. In the end you will be rickrolled. It’s just a matter of time.

I think the actual play-mode in tournament don’t requires a lock to class-change. It hasn’t any advantage in the meta. Mabye if builds gonna change in future it’s needed and for sure modes. You are absolutely right

Sry if i missunderstood. I think spvp is not for hardcore, it’s for new players actually. When you compare pvp in gw1 to gw2, gw2 is sure friendly for beginners.
What I want to point out is, as a new player you need the willforce to stay, even when you have no chance in the beginning. So it’s more the choice of the person to invest time in pvp.
